W450 MTK 6582 Quadcore 1GB/4GB - Android General

My wife wanted a simple smartphone to take pictures and messaging so I thought this budget phone will do.
Specs from seller site:
- 4.5inch Capacitive touchscreen,480*854pixels
- CPU: MTK6582 Quad Core,ARMv7 Processor rev3 1.3GHz
- 1GB RAM + 4GB ROM
- Dual Camera: Back Camera 8.0MP and Front camera 2.0MP,with flashlight
- Android 4.2.2 OS
- Networking: 2G: GSM850/900/1800/1900MHz 3G: WCDMA850/2100MHz
- Dual SIM Card Standby (note that 3G only works with big sim and small sim is for 2G - tested by me)
The stock rom contains some Chinese apps which cannot be uninstalled even when rooted using vroot (rooting method recommended by seller). Force uninstall it using Titanium but lost root afterwards. Factory reset it (vol+ and power) and Chinese apps still remained. Argh.......
So I took this opportunity to flash my rom with an updated original rom posted by the seller. I used PdaNetA4126.exe drivers and flashed using Mediatek's SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1343.01.
After that, I rooted my phone using sjroot. Although sjroot is a Chinese root, everything is in English including the superuser app (Kinguser). Checked rooting with Root Checker. I installed link2sd with a 16GB C10 card (1st primary partition FAT32 10GB, 2nd primary partition ext2 6GB) and successfully mounted it.
That's all I need.

I am not sure if my W450 is the same as STAR W450 (probably is the same). There are some rooted roms available at needrom under STAR W450.
That's it folks!
Update: I am unable to get GPS working as yet. I tried the obvious ie changing the gps.config to as follows but to no avail.
NTP_SERVER=au.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
My other phone STAR N9589 gps works out of the box without any mucking around the gps.config. Will post when (if) I get the gps working.
Update1:
Still trying to get gps working. Have tried a few methods suggested in various forums but still no luck. Maybe its a hardware issue. Not keen to crack open the device to see how things have been soldered....maybe I will just let gps go.....

Sorry, I didn't take a backup of my original rom (assuming that is what you are asking). The original rom contains Chinese apps which I don't want.

Sorry, I may have made a mistake in mini/micro sim. I get confused which is which. So 3G works with big sim and 2G with small sim contrary to what the seller told me. APN setting is carrier specific so mine is simply "internet".

LTE capable MTK handsets are coming soon as 2nd quarter I probably wait till then to see whats cool, try Mobileuncle MTK Tools from play store to check your GPS functions.

Just recieved my W450.
Absolutely no GPS problem. GPS work fast and accurate.
But there is proximity and light sensor problem - there is no data coming from sensors. Recalibration attempts (by Moblieuncle) fails.
Does anybody got same problems with sensors?
P.S. ROM: "Stock12.28 Firmware"

Phone used by my wife, so can't check right now.

Hi!
Sorry for my english!
It seems the main problem is the built-in gps antenna. I replaced it with a home-made IFA antenna (see the attachments).
It is a test, not working perfectly but works better than the original.
The phone has the original rom (Baseband: 2013/10/30 Kernel: fri nov 15)
p.s.: The Google Map works good without GPS... It can use the wifi and the mobile towers

[Q] to XT720 Korean version holders

I am the (unfortunate ?) owner of a Korean Motorola XT720 "Motoroi". And I have to say I am very unsatisfied with the general experience this phone provides.
The ROM is slow, and really chaotic. It's very hard to get your stuff done with this phone, as it randomly crashes or FC important applications. The general feeling the phone gives is of slowness, and is not very convenient to use.
What is strange is that on paper, the phone specs are really nice and I would really appreciate to use it under a faster system.
First, I would like to ask XT720 owners : Is it the same experience for you ?
This is what I tried (thanks to this website) : Rooting the phone + Milestone overclock. The phone is slighty faster at 800 Mhz, but still lags awfully. Putting 1Ghz makes the phone very unstable and heats a lot.
Is changing to Singapore ROM will help ? Can I use Singapore ROM with Korean carrier (SK Telecom) ?
I regret having bought this phone. Unless Motorola fixes this with a nice, well done, fit for the phone, Froyo release, I will never buy any Motorola product.
I am also a korean motoroi owner. At some points i agree with you. The phone is slow. Some tricks don't work that works on other xt720 model. But on the other side, if you know how to tweak, your phone's gonna be fast ( not that really fast). I oc my motoroi up to 1ghz without problems. Sometimes up to 1.2. Btw i understand your situation, i'll post some links of what tweaks i use on my phone.
Btw my friend has glaxy s. And my comment is. Galaxy s faster a very little.
Sent from my XT720 using Tapatalk
Here is one of tricks i apply my friend. If you are not in korea you can flash with europe firmware, that changes the cpu to 750mhz by default. But if you are using your phone and you are in korea. You gonna lose the service. Anyway i hope it helps you. I spend a lot of times digging some forums for this phone. I guess that's the best start.

Anyway. To all korean motoroi holders. Please post what you've researxh here. It would be a big help. Have a nice day...

I own a Korean Motoroi, and I think it's pretty much ok. I have some issues:
1) Default home is slow.
2) Browser doesn't automatically wrap text to fit zoom.
3) Only 256 MB.
I'm using Launcher Pro, so #1 is not a problem anymore. I'm currently on a EU ROM, where #2 is working as expected, but the light and acceleration sensors don't seem to work. Not much I can do about #3, but I *think* I have a little more free memory on the EU ROM.
If you haven't upgraded your Korean Motoroi to 41R without SKAF, I suggest doing it ASAP. I did experience some crashes on the original ROM, but nothing on 41R.

Very sorry to bother you, but :
1/ when you upgrade to another ROM, do you lose your service with SK Telecom ?
2/I am pretty much newbie in the phones world. What is 41R without SKAF ?
thanks a lot for your reply.
1. I mean when i install differrent rom execpt for korean sbf. There is no service. Maybe SK telecom blocked it.
2. I dont know about 41r. Im using 39r.

My big advice is you should update to 2.1. Maybe you still using the 2.0.1 version.

No bother
1: Yes, I lost SKT service. I think SKT is blocking somehow, because the radio still seemed to be working and I could see both KT and SKT networks. I moved out of Korea a couple of weeks ago though, so I don't have any service at all right now. I've read that someone successfully unlocked a Korean XT720, but I haven't tried it myself yet:
http://www.chinalife.kr/blog/?p=364
2: SKAF is SK Application Framework, also known as "all the crap SKT put on the phone". After a lot of outrage from users, SKT now provides a way to flash a ROM without SKAF. It hasn't been pushed OTA though, so you have to manually update. To update to 41R, you can download the sbf from here, if you trust it:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7N9U46XJ
Alternatively, you can upgrade using the Korean Motorola website:
http://www.mymotorola.co.kr/product/PrdRsdMain.aspx
If you don't read Korean, I'd go with just flashing the sbf, the whole procedure is in Korean. You have to pick between SKAF and non-SKAF versions. There is talk on Korean message boards that there will be a 44R soon, which will not be the 2.2 upgrade, but I haven't really followed the boards lately.
The 44R is out, and sets the processor to 600mhz by default and supports wifi n, and crashes less. For Korean users like me you can do the upgrade through the page svenhenrik mentioned in his post.
EDIT : This is the last update before Froyo release next month.
Hello!!! I also have the Korean xt720. I just rooted it yesterday and also overclocked it. I have notice a very big difference between when it was stock and now. As I was read through the post I had a few questions.
1. Is the 44R out on the Motorola web site? Because I downloaded the 41R from the link svenhenrik posted.
Could you please tell me how to go about flashing the 41R or the 44R without SKAF.
2. Are there custom rom that works with the Korean xt720?
3. What are some good themes to use with the xt720?
My phone is currently has Universal androot. V1.6.2 beta 5
Milestone overclock: Overclocked to 1GHz @56vsel
Setcpu: Set to 1 GHz and 250 MHz range.
Titanium Backup.
Since I have only had the phone rooted and at with these setting for a day, I can't how well it’s working out right now.

1. Dunno
2. As I saw so far there's no custom ROM for XT720
3. You can download another Laucher and their themes on MARKET
I've been used 1GHz @56vsel for quite sometimes (2 weeks), nothing happened so far so I think it's good to run at that speed
Anyone ever has this problem? No INCOMING / OUTGOING Calls & SMS.
Everything else work fine, except the PHONE Function itself.
Inserted the SKT Sim and the phone manage to detect the CELL# and OBTAIN SKT Network signal. However when attempted to DIAL, NO RINGTONE and SIGNAL just drop out unexpectedly and CALL FAILED.

Not sure about this. I know when I took the phone to Thailand I got signal but couldn't use it because of the type of contract I have.
I was looking at App2SD and was woundering if using this will free up my internal memory. Right now I am close to using it all up. If I use this will the app run form the sd so that i can download more apps? Any info will be great. Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it has to do with the type of contract because i'm using SKT SIM and I'm covered by the Network in the area (s. korea). However, i did recently discovered that if the 3G signal is available, then i can make INCOMING/OUTGOING CALLs and SMS. Without the 3G signal then the problem persist. Don't know why even though the phone was able to pick up the regular SKT network service.

From what I understood and read on that page is, that the unlock code for the Motoroi is 16 digits not 8. The web page doesn't tell you anything on how to unlock but going to the pay sites for unlock codes. The author wanted to let people know about the 16 digit unlock code.
NinjaX96, thanks, will try to purchase this code since there are no other ways available.
Greediest, Your welcome and let me know if you have any luck with unlocking your phone. I would also like to unlock the phone once I leave Korea.
Is there anybody met problem with sending sms by korean xt720? I can't send sms but can recieve. And i can't apply USSD commands because dialer put "-" into command. Can you help me resolve that problems?

[Q][FIX] SIM Toolkit (STK)

I have been looking everywhere around web, but seems that this question/problem is not properly solved yet. I need Sim Tookit (STK) to manage my SIM card (to be more exact to use it for indentification and mobile banking) , but Nexus S doesn't have one (Motorola Milestone had it). I've have been reading different threads about subject and seems that Nexus One had the same problem. Are there any solutions now besides installing custom rom?
Steps I have taken:
* installing SIM Toolkit (from MoDaCo) to stock ROM - does not work
* installing different roms (MoDaCo & Cyogen) to Nexus S - does not work
* contacting Samsung customer service - (useless) they suggest asking from mobile operator but this has nothing to do with operator
My current conclusion is that all available sources have something missing/misconfigured and that does not allow SIM Toolkit to function properly. If anyone has any ideas how to fix this then please share with rest of us.
The very same problem plagued Nexus One as well and they don't have (at least official fix) till today. There are couple of smart hacks but no one of them is executable with skils/knowlede set I have.

I came to the same conclusion. I've tried to debug it and can't find any STK messages being passed from the RIL, my feeling is that there's a bug/missing implementation in the proprietary parts..

If you are coder (I'm not), then maybe this page gives you some hints:
(search for "Mobiil-ID on Android Dev Phone"; its in Agris WiKI; as a rookie I can not post URL's yet).
Seems like all dev phones (this is really irony) have plagued by the same curse from beginning and seems that lots of hacking is only way to go as nor Google or HTC is interested fixing it.

Yeah, i read that page. It's about the htc dream though? I have the sim toolkit application installed on my Nexus S, but from debugging and reading logs, i came to the conclusion that the low-level RIL doesn't send any STK messages to the upper layers (Telephony -> STK app). So even if you have the STK app, it won't work. I'm gonna try a phone with a working STK and see how it's actually supposed to work..

Yes of course, I just thought that maybe the same princible works in our case as well (think analogy). And someone just left something really simple out from software. But seems that its not that simple

I do know that sister model ie. Galaxy S (both have almost identical hardware) does have working SIM Toolkit - had chance to try out it in shop yesterday. It worked just fine.
Are you able to run/access SIM Toolit actually? I was able to get direct link to it using "anycut" but its just crashes.

That's very interesting, i didn't think Galaxy S had SIM Toolkit. Nope, i've tried linking to the various activities but they all crash... But the interesting part is that i see no STK messages in the RIL logs, they should be there.. would be interesting to see how it looks on a working phone. I wonder if there's some sim toolkit incompatability in 2.3? Either that or the Galaxy and Nexus has some other differences..
still no way to get this stk.apk working huh?
waiting for Mr.Nameless @ ginger-s custom rom who claim will get the working one on his next update. hopefully he make it right.

Is that a fact or just rumor? Can you point out where you did find info about that?
As far as I know, the SIM Toolkit works in association with the carrier (actually with the SIM, but this is programmed by the carrier). Therefore, I think the SIM Toolkit apk is just there to enable these SIM functions when needed. From my experience (I have a Galaxy S), with my normal carrier I do not see any application but when I traveled to a different country and used a different SIM, a SIM Toolkit icon appeared in the app drawer and it did offer some carrier specific functions. When I came back home and switched the SIM again, it disappeared.

Just search around internet and you will see that Nexus S and One share the same sad fate - no SIM Toolkit. Its known fact. Even Google has listed it in support forums as "improvement".

Star N9589 MTK 6589 Quadcore 1GB/8GB

There is already an active thread on B94M/B943 but none on N9589. I am hoping to start one.
I received mine a few weeks ago and still playing with it. It is still unrooted because I am waiting for my micro-sd to arrive. I installed ADB_usb_driver_120827_v3 and MtkDroidTools_v246 and seems to work fine. Mine is the 1GB/8GB version, came with Android 4.2.1 and bought it on ebay for US$230. Would have bought it from aliexpress (cheaper) but their payment system put me off.
I am not sure but I think this phone is manufactured by HUACHEN Technology Limited.

I assume you have the same phone? Have you tried a 64GB micro sd card? I read about someone on needrom who successfully used one. I am still waiting for my 64GB card to be delivered.

Hello Dreamerman, I too just got the Star N9589 and am very happy with it. I was wondering what service provider you are going through? I been having a heck of time trying to get service for this phone. I found a person who left a comment on a N9589 they bought on Amazon : http://www.amazon.com/Star-MTK6589-Quad-core-Capacitance-SmartPhone-Grey/dp/B00BVUXQ2W . They got theirs working on a pre-pay service Net 10, I have tried both straight talk and net 10 and no luck so far. Thanks

I had to factory reset mine 3 times to get 3G working. Previously only getting 2G. Have you tried factory reset?
Issues discovered so far....
1. Sometimes the person I am speaking to reported hearing echos. This applies to both land line and mobile.
2. Speaker volume too low. I suppose this can be corrected via engineer menu.
I confirm this phone supports a 64GB micro-sd card (FAT32) although specs says upto 32GB.

OK good to know, what does factory reset do for the phone exactly? I was worried about only getting 2G speeds using GSM. I read up on a youtube channel that a guy is using AT&T with his N9859, so maybe this is what I will have to do. Was hoping to use a pre-pay service but not sure that is possible with this phone. Thanks for the heads up on the echoing issue..

Thats great, I noticed too when buying my phone that some of the specs were under-rated from what they really were. Interesting, guess its still a big plus the phone is better than what they show on the specs thus far!
Revman, factory reset means a fresh reinstall of your stock rom to original state from factory. You will loose all apps you install yourself and all customisations like wall paper etc. In my case, I also lost some Chinese apps that came with the phone which I didn't want so that is a bonus.
Antutu score when I got the phone is about 12000 but after factory reset it went up to 13140 so that is a bonus too.
Engineer menu is *#*#3646633#*#* but if you install free app Mobileuncle Tools from Play Store, you can get into the engineer menu from there. It has AppToSD built in.
Also if you are buying a 64GB card from ebay, be careful. I bought 4 over past 4 weeks and all has been fakes. Better buy from shops although cost more.

That is not all. I also noticed that while conversing using speaker, besides the low volume, I hear crackling as if the reception is very poor. I miss out hearing a few words and coupled with low volume, it is almost unusable. When switch off the speaker to normal phone-to-ear mode, the reception is back to normal and the audio is clear. I contacted the ebay seller and will see what he says.
It is a great film, I love mine. Just wish I could get some good custom ROMs on it like Paranoid Android.

Thanks clarifying on the factory reset. I'm sorry to hear about your eBay experience, I am always weary of ordering from there, I have had a lot of friends get ripped off. This goes to say I was also really worried about ordering this phone from china, but luckily everything went really well. I got this phone from Alibaba.com out of Hon Kong. Ordered 3 N9859 phones, there were no china apps in mine that I noticed, had all Google's apps as well as some other really cool ones like Microsoft Word. they came with phone folding covers, two batteries, head phones with built in radio antennas, wall charger, usb cable. I am extremely pleased with the quality of these phone, they are awesome!
Dreamerman, thanks for the Engineer menu number, that will come in handy. I will maybe try Mobileuncle Tools as well. I seen a video on how to root the N9859 phone, go to Youtube & type N9859, you will see "how to root my N9859", just read the steps and software to use under the video. That also sucks about your experience with the speaker phone, I will let you know how mine works once I am set up with a service provider and can actually get to talk on it.
I also went down to AT&T today to see if they could run this phone on their service, he thinks it's not going to be problem. He said a girl came in not to long ago and she had something similar, they were able to get hers going. So I am seeking out all my options, hopefully I will have the phone up and going shortly. I will write in and tell who I got the phone working through once its activated.
Root success with this tutorial.

OK, I will check this out, I have an at&t gsm sim in my phone from Net 10 at the moment, but phone is not reading the card. For what ever reason I can't get into mobile settings to change APN settings. So this is why I am thinking I might need to root the phone, so I can open everything up for full access. The Engineer code did work great for the phone and I was able to go into some deeper settings, but didn't fix my problem. I have 3 of these phone we are trying to get up and going, so will probably root them all, seems to be a better way to go anyways so we can have better apps, etc..
Also, when you first get your phone and plug it into your computer, it says it needs driver "MT65XX Preloader Driver". Found websites that had this driver "4 Share.com". Do you have a reference on where to get this driver so my computer will recognize the phone and I can transfer files etc.. thanks.
You can get the driver from here.
http://online.mediatek.com/Public Documents/MTK_Android_USB_Driver.zip
Phone Working on NET 10 & Found Working Driver
Phone is working 100%! I was able to get the phone working on a pre-pay plan through "Net 10"., You can go down to your local Radio shack and purchase a "Net 10 Bring Your Own Plan" for $9.99. Inside the package comes a T-Mobile Sim, At&T Sim and an AT&T Micro Sim. I am using the standard size AT&T GSM Sim out of the package, I discovered you must insert the sim backwards verses how you put them in on our Samsung phones etc. So now you only pay $45.00 a month if you are enrolled on the auto-inrollment through thier website, otherwise it's $50.00 month. You get unlimited talk, text and I believe up to 2GB of data before they throttle you. (Throttling is when they cut down your data speeds) 2GB should be more than enough for your typical user though.
To get your N9589 working with your computer I found the working driver with complete instructions here: (they wont let me post outside links yet, so this is what you do) Go to your Google Search, and type in: "How to install MT/MTK 65xx USB driver on Windows 7" . One of the top websites that pulls up is: DroidChina.com . click into this page and you will see instructions and the driver download towards the bottom of the page.
With out instructions any driver will be useless to you, so important you know the proper steps how to install. This is a Chinese Forum, but I assure you its 100% legitimate and working. You will have to sign up with the Forum, but worth it. I spent 3 days just trying to find the right driver for this phone, every place I found it wanted you to download their software and all their crap in order to just download the driver. With this forum, you don't have to do that, nor worry about malware or viruses.NOTE: the only thing I did different on the install is, where is says steps 4, 5, 6, the picture sample below, I just click on the folder called: "usb_driver" and it installed perfectly. I tried there way but my browser box didn't show the same folders theirs did.
Hope this helps you guys, I had a hell of a time getting information out there about this phone. I am very happy with the Star N9589, it's truely an amazing phone with an awesome 5.7" screen! Everything works great including the speaker phone, which I know Dreameran here on this forum, was having a problem with on his.
My next mission is to find out how to do a nandroid backup.
Update: I used different apps from Play Store to attempt full nandroid backup but all failed. The best tool for me is the one I already have ie MTK Droid Root & Tools. See tutorial in link below. My packed backup zip file is 1,039,621 kb and unpacked is 3,100,708,864 kb.

My SanDisk 64GB Class 10 Mobile ULTRA Micro SD Micro SDXC Memory Card should arrive tomorrow. I bought it locally as I am sick of ebay fakes. I hope to have 2 partitions, one 32GB ext4 and the balance FAT32. Will be using either Gparted or free version of Partition Wizard (bootable ISO). After that I will install Link2SD.
UPDATE: I've done it. Partitioned my new shiny original 64GB C10 Sandisk micro sd card into 2 partitions; 15GB ext2 and balance FAT32 4kb cluster using MiniTool Partition Wizard bootable CD. Installed link2sd. Linked all non system apps to ext2 partition. All sweet. Spent several hours researching pros cons of ext2/3/4 and finally selected ext2.

Sorry to hear that. Risk of breaking ROM is the reason I maintained my stock ROM. Have you tried reset factory? There are sites (mostly Russian or Chinese) out there with stock ROM. If yours is already bricked, there is no downside. Try them all. Good luck. BTW, have you tried needrom?

N9002 Dual Sim thread

I just got one yesterday in hk for $900.
Anyone else got one?
I checked antutu, and it is a snapdragon version.
I would like to know whether someone can activate lte on the first sim. I only got hsdpa now

I can't help you at ll, but I am very interested in this post, I live in China, and despite most of the technology being built here, it is not easy for a Westerner to A) get hands on stuff B) get information on, and C) not get ripped off in the process of A) and B). So far, I haven't had the displeasure of C.
Actually, I see elsewhere that there is another user posting about trying to get GApps onto his N9006 and not having much success getting infomation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2454079&page=17 . Not sure if that is because he is a complete Noob, or whether it is because no one knows or both.
So, I'm wondering about the N9002 and the N9006. Did the aforementioned N9002 come unlocked and with GApps installed? Is a dual sim even useful?
How does it differ from the N9006, I wonder? Also, can I root them easily, as I am sure they won't come with GApps (sigh!) I had no problem rooting a Chinese s4 for a friend, but it was an i9500 and didn't have a strange model number.
Has anyone got one of either the N9002 or N9006 and had success? It is a bloody awful amount of dosh to pay for a phone, if it doesn't work properly for an English or non Mandarin native user.
Look forward to hopefully seeing some replies and advice.
Cheers.
When I got mine, I made sure the saleman install Google apps for me. I got play store, gmail, and everything. But I don't know how. All I know is you can do it somehow. Even I factory reset, and I can still use google apps.
I rooted it myself. I just googled it and find the necessary .tar files. And flashed with Odin.
The n9002 support dual standby and dual call (concurrently). The first sim supports hsdpa but the second sim only supports gprs.
I bought this for my brother who has to travel a lot. With the large battery, I think this is thd perfect travel phone. Buy a data sim oversea and put it in as sim1 for data and put in the native sim in sim2 to such that all business partners can continue to reach you.
Hope this helps.

What is the internal GB - is it 16 or 32 GB ? How's the battery life ? I am also looking to buy one from HK ( i live in India, would be visiting HK in the next 15 days or so ) .
.............also, where did u buy it from ? I hope it has no regional Lock issues ?
It is a 16gig. I can't report on the battery yet. Still testing. There is no region lock issue. I use my HK sim to turn it on (it is a China phone).
I bought it at OceanTec Mobile at Shop G61, Sincere House Comm. Podium, 83 Argyle Street, Mong Kok.
The price I got it for is $6980 hong kong dollars.
I am not associated with this shop. Just bought it there.

I bought a n9002 yesterday in China, and I am a non-native. It is 16GB and they didn't seem to offer any different. At first they asked me if I wanted a China Mobile (carrier) phone, and I said no so they got me a different one. They asked for my sim card so we could check that it would work but they did not let me see them turn it on. It worked but when I turn it off and on at home it has Unicom (other carrier) crap on it, even without the sim card inside. So I thought I was getting carrier unlocked but possibly not.
There aren't any Google apps and instead there is a Unicom one. Search for things like Skype, and you get the Chinese (monitored) version. It's the same with the magazine, you can only join Chinese social accounts. I added a VPN and went to Facebook and tried downloading the app, but it seems any URL starting with market:// isn't loading.
I downloaded Google play to my computer and used bluetooth to send it across to N9002. I had a warning about installing software from unsupported markets but a change in setting let me install it, but it won't run.
I'm all right with technology but this is my first ever Android device so I have never rooted before. I would like to go back to the shop and see what I can do but yesterday was manic because it's a national holiday (that's why i didn't hang around very long) and it might be like that for the next couple of days.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for starting this thread.
Blizza,
I got my google play installed by the salesman. But I think the following link should work. it seems pretty simple and just use Odin to flash.
https://support.mobicity.com/entrie...Play-Store-on-the-Dual-SIM-Galaxy-S4-GT-i9502
I was able to root.
It is pretty simple as well. You can just follow the followings:
Flash CWM Recovery with Odin using this: Down volume, home, and power together.
https://hotfile.com/dl/246835247/21b6180/n9006-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.7(0922).tar.html
Flash the .tar for root using this with the CWM Recovery: Up volume, home, and power together.
http://www.netded.com/xiao_1.php?url=http://pan.baidu.com/s/1yy9IP
If you don't know how to use Odin, then let me know. Try at your own risk....
Use titanium backup Pro (paid version) or search some Freeze App in Google Play to freeze all the bloatwares. Mine is all good now.
Thanks for the advice and I really want to try it but I am using Mac OSX so I can't use Odin. However there might be another solution in Heimdall. I'm still looking into it but that was a very encouraging video.

Let me know if you figure it out, I just bought a 9002 as well and the Unicom store sucks... My grief with it is less with the terrible design but more of whatever app you download from that store does not show up in your application list!! Also I feel a little uncomfortable with apps coming from Unicom knowing a lot of my info.
Tried downloading G-Play but it would not run (would install ok, but would not open)
I too only have a mac atm but if what it takes is a PC to fix the problem, I'll gladly go and buy a cheapo one.
Overall its a great phone, I have my China number and a my HK SIM card in the phone and they both work great. Also navigation is really really fast. I also have a single SIM S4 that I bought in HK.
Found this while doing research into this, its in Chinese so not sure how that may help you guys. Guy is promising 100% success rate into installing Google Play.
I might get a PC so I can try this out to see if it works...
Edit:
I am a new user so I am unable to post external links... search n9002 google play and its on a 52samsung forum
This might be a bit long but points out what I have noticed is different or missing from 9002 version.
1. Google Apps, including Play 2. Only 3 languages (Korean, Chinese & English) 3. Only 1 keyboard (Samsung Chinese IME) 4. Magazine only allows access to Samasung partner apps in China (Sina Weibo & Renren) 4. Samsung Hub is in Chinese 5. Numerous widgets use Chinese partners (i.e. Baidu search, not Google).
(Feel free to add to this list, I should be able to go back and edit additions in).
My perfect scenario would be to flash and install something that makes it all Western style, but that might take some time for this version.
On the Rooting side I thank Yatbond greatly for his help, the links were very helpful despite my not being able to use the PC. You can still get the needed files.
There is a Mac OS X alternative, Heimdall, which uses terminal. I have seen a video on youtube that demonstrates the process on a Mac and Note 2 (I can't post external links yet but search 'root note 2 with mac osx' and you will see it, or visit galaxynote2root dot com. This method requires having the restore on the SD card which I will go and buy today.
I am a noob so i am being a bit careful but I think that a mix of yatbond's and Heimdall has the answer for mac and 9002 users, it's just be great to have a guide of some sorts.
I am going to check Infuras link now, and see if I can use the translator to make progress.
Yatbond, I noticed that one of the files is n9006-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.7(0922)-fix-adb.tar - n9006 not 9002 is OK?
---------- Post added at 08:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:58 AM ----------
Infura led me towards the Chinese 52samsung forums and after a search i found 2 posts. 1 gives the same files as Yatbond's however another one linked to a different recovery file. Here is the link http://bbs.52samsung.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=713202
I used the translator and it mentions recovering using n9005 (HK) and goes onto say that performance is improved.
OK, quick update before my laptop battery dies. I went to the Official Samsung shop where I brought the phone and they said 'no can do' and that it was impossible for these dual sim phones to come with Google pre-installed because they are for the Chinese market. However he told me where I could get it rooted. I went there, the kid had never done one before and was trying to use, what looks like a very easy, Chinese app. However it's a new device and he couldn't do it. I had downloaded the files that yebot gave me before, and we watched the note3root.com video and did it. However no Google play, so then we watched the video yebot sent me too, and we did it! I've got Play working, downloaded Titanium backup and also got rid of a few Chinese bloatware apps. I'm still having issues getting facebook and skype though, and quite a lot of the store app descriptions are showing in Chinese or Cantonese so maybe it isn't quite right.
Mac OS X users, I didn't want to try it myself until a video guide was done. Borrow a PC or wait until note3root.com shows you how (but he doesnt show the adding of google play, and the CW versions are different to what yebot linked us to).
I will update when I have done more.
Blizza,
I think you are fine. The file for 9006 is fine. That is the one I used. It is a recovery file, and so should be ok.
You are obviously in china. Play store probably is in Chinese because of that. And facebook probably won't work in China.
Now, try resetting your phone and set it up again. This should clear all locale that has been set initially.
You should be able to keep root. And hopefully play, which I am not sure. Or alternatively, you can go into all related apps from application Manger in settings and clear their cache and data.

A follow up that, like Blizza, I got mine to work now it seems. It took a long time of mixed up confusion, but it looks like if you only root using CF-Auto-Root, that it doesn't allow GApps to be installed, because the recovery hasn't been flashed to CWM (or I did my flash wrong).
Using the cwm files for the 9006, I was able to follow this guide:
galaxynote3root DOT com/galaxy-note-3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-3/
and then use the GApps package listed here:
support.mobicity DOT com/entries/22148360-How-to-flash-the-Google-Play-Store-on-the-Dual-SIM-Galaxy-S4-GT-i9502
to get GApps installed and set up.
I can't thank the contributors to this thread enough, I could never have figured this out without this thread and I'd be stuck with the chinese apps that I can't read...
Excuse me while I go play with my new phone finally. (and donate after confirming everything's looking good :good

Alcatel 5v

Hello everyone! First, forgive me for my English. I created this topic to share opinions and any information that Alcatel 5v mobile users.
I hope to find users of this mobile because at the moment I have not found anyone...
As for my experience with him, for now is what I expected, a mid-range mobile phone with a good price-quality ratio. The screen is wonderful, I was surprised by the brightness and the quality of the image. With sunlight, the screen looks perfectly and at forced angles too. I have not yet tried to watch movies in it, I will inform you of its performance with high quality formats.
The camera is really good, its 12 mpx + 2 mpx of the second camera are able to take pictures with a very good quality and with vivid colors that I had not seen with other phones. The but is what it takes to focus and take the picture, but of course, I come from a Samsung Galaxy S7 and the difference is brutal, even so and without being the best camera among its competitors, meets more than enough.
As for the Cpu and the Ram, it more than meets the needs of a médium user. I've tried it with the latest games and they look fluid and without fps crashes. In the photo edition you can see the difference with the Galaxy S7 but not as much as the price difference could indicate.
Regarding the Wi-Fi connection and mobile network in my country (Spain) with the contracted operator, I have not had any problems. I always have 4g in mobile network and as for the WiFi connection some loss of connection but because of the operator (movistar).
The design, without being anything new, stands out for its immense screen, its light weight and comfort in the hands. At the moment I have not slipped and I can not say the same as the Galaxy S7. It is also to highlight its back that gives a premium touch with the glossy finish (better see the photos on the official website).
The big problem I'm having is finding information and users with whom to share information, it seems that it is a mobile that does not interest in forums and specialized websites ... I really want to root it and try its best (in Antutu was in 78000 pts, but with the CPU at 1.8 Ghz, I do not know why), but at the moment there is no way, I've used traditional apps to root it without a PC and none works.
Anyway, well this is my little review on this mobile that I would have to give a note would be in 8/10.
Greetings to all.
You have 4g in this cell phone? So you install the 4g module on it ?
This cell phone doesnt come with 4G...
Yes @jdcchora1533 this mobile has 4G Network in Spain.
I was surprised by Alcatel,6" good lighting in the street and good battery...
I have downloaded the program to search for updates from the Alcatel page, but there is only one for the model (5060). This model is the 5060D. Do you know anything about software update? Currently it has version 8.1.0 package compilation 001004ES.
hey guys, I have good news…(25/11/2018)
This afternoon I unlocked the bootloader, (Back up files), for those who do not know how to do the procedure is the same as with other models, using ADB, we introduce these commands in the ADB window; "adb devices " after; "adb reboot bootloader ", then we write; "adb flashing unlock ", it takes a few seconds and the phone notifies you that you have unlocked the bootloader, then restarts. The old method does not work; "FastBoot OEM unlock ".The quotation marks are not put, do not forget.
Now you just need to try to do the root.
Also this mobile has otg support

Is a great new! Thanks a lot! I tried when i have a new pc, because the older was broken... :crying:
Hello guys, to date of today (08/12/2018), I have verified that there is a system update. 584 MB.
this update is for the security of the device, and now it is version 01006ES, it takes more or less 15 or 20 minutes.
Yes, at last Alcatel give us the security actualization of noviembre.
I've been looking for everything related to the drivers for this device. The connection to the PC is unstable, .. with mtk droid tools it detects that the chip is mt6765, and the board mt6762 .. Also the only tool that can root the mobile, "one click root", but you have to pay. If I find something related to how to get root I'll upload it here. Also through adb, you can make a backup, but I'm more interested in making a backup of the ROM. well I will go little by little uploading info ..
But is SURE one click root can roted this mobile??? Because pay 30€ to see "your device can't be rooted, sorry...".
I know the problems with the drivers and than MTK tools until not recognize the processor... Only can we do is wait for a miracle jajajaja.
I use tools to see the frequency of the processor in games, for example, and cores sut down when the temp is 43 or 44 °C.... I think this processor support more temp but i dont understand why the sut down....
It may be a security system, we must bear in mind that many devices are damaged by processors due to the temperature, for example LG G4 or V10. bootloop, brick etc
Thanks for bringing up this particular query OP, it solved two of my problems
You are welcome and Happy holidays.

At the moment I have also unlocked the oem but I have no news about root or twrp. I think that at the moment there is nothing ...
I just ask about Alcatel 5V Root? It's fake or real? ??
https://www.techdroidtips.com/root-alcatel-5v/
Its fake, at the momento dont have TWRP for Alcatel 5v, and if dosent have alternative bootloader, dont root...
The only way, i think, is take redmi TWRP, because hardware is exactly the same, and some expert make a mod for Alcatel 5v. If i have time i see manuals for kernel and i tried It.

it is simply an explanation, but the important thing is that the recovery and the tool to root it can not be downloaded.
---------- Post added at 02:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:17 PM ----------
there is a way to make a backup with mtk droid tools, and create a cwm recovery for this model and some tutorial on YouTube, but I can not get the connection to the pc to be stable. with a program called uni android tool, it detects the mobile and describes its processor class etc, but the tool does not work. so one way or another I'm stuck with the root.
