[REQ] HTC One (like) Car Mode - Android General

Hi,
I searched Google and xda for hours but it seems nobody else wants this cool and handy app from the HTC One.
Im talking about the CarMode which reads SMS to you and asks if u want to reply and what you want to say. It is packed in a nice dashboard.
So basically i could use google to reply with speech but Google Now does not read new messages to me. All the dashboards out there in the play store are very ugly.
Does somebody have an alternative for me or at least a tasker tutorial ?

Note taking app

I searched around on androlib and googled couldnt find exactly what I am looking for. I use my exchange activesync calendar alot and use the notes in there to describe what my appointment is regarding. Its usually a couple paragraphs. That way I can refresh myself when I get to the appt. It is very hard to type long notes like this even with swype. I was wondering if there was an app that i could do speech to text with and it do a good job. With swype i havent figured out how to turn on the voice thing like with the stock keyboard, but that one seems to have lots of errors it words. Hope someone knows of something that will work for my application.
TIA

Voice control : Vlingo now FREE

Vlingo has announced that effectively immediately, it's voice to action is now FREE
Thanks gonna try it.
I just downloaded Vlingo...but when I say the "send text" command it opens up the native Android SMS app, even though I have Google Voice as the default SMS app on my phone. How do I get Vlingo to open Google Voice when sending texts?
It may not be able to integrate to it. It's only advertised to work with the defaults after all. GV is an addition in 2.1, so I cant say.
Try "text via voice" or something similar. You could also contact the developer.
How is working with battery? Does it drain battery a lot?
Honestly? I don't know. I suppose it does no more than Google Voice Search, when in use.
Despite the cool factor, this doesn't make Captivate a KITT
Works with handcent sms fine. For sms, I prefer it. Also has a widget to turn on read aloud for sms.
Edwin seems to open apps better. Edwin has translation. You can also have search results come back as audio.
Google default dials contacts faster but this shows phone book and google results which is nice.
Overall great addition.
Also like gesture search app. Try that one out.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
The problem I'm having with this, as well as the Google Voice thingamabob, is that I have to tell it the whole name of someone in my contact list before it recognizes who I'm talking about. It misses on first names every time, even if the first name I ask it to call or text is unique on the contact list. I had hoped Vlingo would be an improvement, but, alas....

[Q] Text to Speech (TTS) and Emails

Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows how to get the Android to read my emails to me?
I've tried using both Gmail, and the mail application and can't get it to use Text To Speech.
Is this something that needs the application to be specifically designed for TTS, and if so are their any applications around that support it. (Although I find it hard to believe that Google's own flagship mail apps don't.. but I've been known to be wrong before... or so my wife tells me)
Cheers

[Q] [APP] Beluga

I was searching through the market last night and I found a new messaging (bbm replacement) app called Beluga.
Is anyone else using this thing? The interface is pretty slick and it seems to integrate your location into your messages which could be useful for planning a meeting.
The problem with all these messenger replacement apps is that there are too many of them. We just need one to hit critical mass.
I'm curious what everyone thinks of these "bbm" apps. Is anyone actually using them or is everyone still just texting?
I;m using whatsapp..
kinda curious about these beluga though.. have u tried it?

Google voice with messaging app

Correct me if I'm wrong but there's no way to integrate google voice with the native sms app right ? (if I don't currently have phone service)
But is there any other app on the market that will let me use google voice to send texts besides the official google voice app ?
I don't like it because it feels clunky and when you press return it sends the message and that really bothers me.
I am not aware of any other google voice apps. I hate the return send too it never fails to cause a headache. You could always access it through the mobile browser I have better success with that.
Rift
At least I'm not the only one =P
thanks the web does work a bit better.
Is there anyway to make a web page as an icon on the homescreen like ios ?
Edit: I got , but is there a way to change the icon picture ?
