Wait!! Don't get me wrong!! I don't want to know how android multitasking works that's been discussed pretty often here... i think i got this part.
The point is, i'm thinking about switching from iOS to Android...
And I'm concerned about how multitasking works on android.
Example:So on iOS I can play Angry Birds pause the game, double tap homebutton and switch to text app to text someone, double tap homebutton again switch back to Angry Birds unpause and continue playing..
1. On android: does long-pressing the homebutton to see "recent apps" work from EVERY app?
2. Can I just switch from any app to another using "recent apps" and the apps i get back to, continue to run where i left them (e.g. angry birds...) or do they restart? So if android decides, that it needs ram, it will close apps, i got that and thats okay..
3. TouchWiz 4.0 adds a taskmanager button to the "recent apps" screen. this will take you appmanagement, where you can exit apps. In the forums i read that manually exiting apps is bad for android performance and battery life.. true??
I tried to find the right section for posting this and thought this is the right place, sorry if im wrong!
Would be nice if someone would answer my questions.
Thanks!!

Yes, it's a feature of Android OS itself and app can't block/disable it.

Yes, as long as there will be enough RAM, your app will be "frozen" and will wait for you in a state you have left it. But you don't have to use "recent apps" - you could e.g. click home button or open notification bar and tap something - app will be frozen. Same for returning to this app - in most cases this doesn't matter whether you will select it from "recent apps" or just tap it from a launcher.
Also some apps can resume their state even if they were killed for their RAM. But most of apps don't implement such feature.

It's bad if you kill apps like crazy - or if you use task manager which does the same. It's no problem when you kill one or two apps if you have reason to do so.
Ahh thanks =) Sounds pretty good. Well I got an iPhone 3G now and i cant use more than 2 apps "at once" because i got multitasking by editing some plists but not the official way, apple wanted
and i have to kill apps, for my phone to run smoothly..
i dont want to mess with android processes like keyboard or stuff, but maybe, after playing a game, when i know that i wont get back to it pretty soon, there shouldnt be a problem with exiting it.. well cool. this probably bought me cant wait for the galaxy s 2 to be available here =) first android phone for apple fanboy
but thanks for taking the time!
Is there a multitasking app or program i can use with the infuse,I dont like using taskmanager!
Are you just trying to switch between recently used apps? Hold down your home key and your last couple of apps opened will pop up.
You can also use Advanced Task Killer (but don't kill tasks, unless an app is misbehaving) -
Make sure you peruse the settings so that autokill is OFF and security is HIGH (to avoid showing system processes). Also, it'd really help to configure the tap action to "select/unselect" so that you don't accidentally kill anything.

I think Visual Task Switcher is as close as you'll get.
There's also QuickDesk, Tasking, and Swipepad.
... not necessarily with the app "autostarts". here's my situation, fit a long time now I have had autostarts and startup manager installed with no conflicts out issues. I was also using clean master which was also fine, up until a little while ago when clean master introduced it's own autostart feature. at one point I mistakenly hit the boost button and it automatically blocked all my apps from autostarting. after that periodically my running apps (like tasker, lmt launcher, glovebox, lightflow, battery widget reborn, etc) would close down. at first it would only happen after an update to clean master, but kept getting worse and worse, like each time I'd unlock my phone. went into autostarts and enabled all apps one by one to autostart. uninstalled autostarts and startup manager as I figured they were causing conflicts. was fine again for a while until I launched clean master. I'd like to be able to use clean master but not if it makes my phone unusable. any help please.

Hello. My mate 8 keeps killing apps. Realistically this happens when the apps do not get started on start up at all or the all clear button is used for running apps and these apps to not get re started. I have looked at the permissions they have been given auto run permissions they have been given run in the background permissions they have been given battery optimization excuse meaning they're allowed to run no matter what the battery. They have also been given data usage permissions. Essentially these are apps such as the Tasker the locale app things that automate phone
If someone knows an automation app that is not murdered by this phone I'll just change apps

Lol I actually don't mind this. Saves me so much battery for apps like Facebook
Yes but it turns a smart phone into a paper weight. A very expensive one. I can do better with a lesser battery life

I notice the same. It was worse in NXT-L29C636B103 but seems to be better in NXT-L29C636B180 but some of my essential apps that work with automation like Situations and Silence Premium are not working properly at all.... need to find out how, all these apps I am talking about are already in "Protected Apps" and in "Ignore Battery Optimzations". That means, don't touch them and let them run its course because it needs to... and I command it so...
But internally, either EMUI 4 or Marshmallow 6 is ignoring these "whitelist" that they themselves implemented. I'm running debug logs with one of the developers of the apps I am having problems with... and he noticed instead of not touching the application, it is being "killed" and "restarted" all the time. Nooooo!!!
It is a nice feature for battery life.... but if you kill essential apps that the user has told you to not touch, then, that is way #[email protected]*!?*&
Additionally to the ignore optimizations, and Protected Apps in Battery Manager..
If you go to Settings -> Apps, then go into specific app you want..tap Battery...and you have options
- App Auto-Launch
- Keep running after screen off

any solution for this ? it's killing me ! my life is ruined because it's killing my alarm clock Xtreme.
EMUI 4.1, B320
L29
Same for me with my Bike applications !!
Grrr every 90 min average the apps is killed and i lose all my personal stat ! GRRRRR
Need help or I will kill this phone !!
Thanks
Same here with most important app like Facebook and Facebook Messenger
I get the solution from digging on web
Press the home hot key.press the options hot key(the one with three horizontal lines)task manager list will be opened will all the minimized appsjust SWIPE DOWN on the app you wanted to run in backgroundNow A lock symbol will be displayed on the app, which means that app is locked from killing by task manager.i.e your app will now run in background even after killing all the tasks in task manager. To reverse it(to unlock it or to prevent running it in background) press the home, then options hot key.. Now swipe that app UP..that lock symbol will be gone and you can kill it with task manager.

already done and not working for me :/
Anyone with a solution for this??
guys, I have an issue here
mine is 6GB ram of 7 Pro
I open only two apps in background, when I switch to another app, the app just refreshed, meaning it was killed, why is that so?
Now I can't multitask because I can barely open few apps and keep it running in background
I'm on latest open beta 1 though
Even when I'm on stable OxygenOS I feel the same issue, anyone ?
Go to settings, developer option and running services
My system shows 3.6GB to around 4GB usage, so much ?

Set the apps you want running to don't optimize.
Are you on Android Q?
Because there you have to give it some time to adapt to your usage pattern, so that it will make sure your apps are loaded when you usually use them. Worked good for me after a few days.
If you still want to turn off battery optimization:
1. Disable advanced optimization under battery settings.
2. Set your apps to "Don't optimize" in the battery settings.
3. Lock them in the recents menu.

Hmmm that's weird, it does that Everytime? Maybe try a clean install and see if the issue persists if you have no other plans.

Tried a full factory reset, same issue though, the app won't just keep in background and will be refreshed when I go back to the app I opened, background only few apps like FB Whatsapp IG etc
But I'm sure this is software issue and I wonder if anyone facing such problem ?
I have the same issue with my 6GB Varient.

Guys, I think I found the problem that causes this issue
I tried changing resolution from QHD to FHD and now my apps will stay in background. Tested few rounds and indeed QHD res will kill apps easily even few apps only but FHD can maintain many apps in background
But why though ?
