Help Resetting Surface - Microsoft Surface

I've agreed to sell my Surface RT but I'm struggling to reset it. I deleted the backup partition and made a backup onto a USB drive but I've since upgraded to 8.1.
Now when I try to reset, it says files are missing from the recovery drive. I've tried booting off the USB stick, entering the BitLocker key and can't reset that way either.
Am I completely stuck now?
Edit: Nevermind, found an official recovery link at http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/ne...image-to-fix-windows-rt-81-update-issues.html

[Q] Permissions change...boot loop

Hey,
Rooted my Galaxy Tab plus, then backed it up with TB, then tried to transfer the backup to the external sd... which didn't work. I then very precisely (I thought) followed the instructions for creating permissions to write to the external sd, and as per those instructions, rebooted.
And so my Tab has. Rebooted, and rebooted, and rebooted, and rebooted.
I've got it in recovery mode at the moment... but does anyone know how to get this thing out of circular reboot mode? I'm leery of doing a factory reset from recovery until I know if that will have the desired effect--mainly, getting me back into my Tab. I have the stock firmware and ODIN, if that's what's needed. I just need some advice on which is the best to try.
Or, if there's an altogether different solution, then please share...
This may not be useful to solve your problem. However, FYI,...
I was able to applied the permission mod previously, and afterwards, I did a factory reset. It did not remove the permission mod that I applied. That is, after the reset, it was still able to write the the external SD even though all my data and apps were gone.
So chances are the factory reset is not going to solve your problem.
factory reset doesn't mess with the system partition - it basically just wipes the /data partition. So it won't fix your problem.
If you have ODIN, just find a replacement image and re-image the device.

I initially downloaded the stock firmare for the US version, after discovering for myself that doing a factory reset from it's semi-bricked state did no good. The original firmare download was somehow incomplete; it reached an "unexpected end" while extracting and so would not work in ODIN. Then my Tab wouldn't connect to the computer I was using at all.
Fortunately, I was able to re-download the firmware and use ODIN on another computer, so I was able to get back to stock. Even after that, however, I had to do a factory reset; for some reason, my Tab downloaded the first update from Samsung, but would not make the leap to LA3. Once I did the factory reset, though, all was well.
Then, of course, I immediately re-rooted and manually made the changes that let me write to the external sd--correctly, this time. No trouble at all on reboot.
Thank God.

[Q] Arnova 8G2 Root Problems

Hi there! I am having a problem with my Arnova 8G2 tablet. I was completely new to the rooting thing when I done this. As you may or may not know this device does not come with Google Play installed it comes with another store (AppsLib, if I remember right) Anyway there was an app which you could install from there which rooted the tablet and enabled Google Play to function as it added Google Account Authenticator and all that goodness. A few weeks passed with no problems then all of a sudden it stops working. When I tried to reboot it it showed the Arnova logo. I put it into recovery mode and then hut Factory reset from there. This is where I need help, when I pressed factory reset this is what it said:
Recovery System v1.3.37
=== RECOVER ===
Checking firmware...
Please KEEP your USB cable or DC-in connected
Writing SYSTEM:...
Checking SYSTEM:...
Formatting CACHE:...
Formatting DATA:...
Formatting PAGECACHE:...
E:Can't format PAGECACHE:
E:Failure at line 12:
Format PAGECACHE:
Recover failed, please reboot and recover again!
Then the screen flashes and does the same (Arnova logo and then boots straight into this recovery) and does this over and over. Sometimes it takes me to the recovery screen where it only allows me to select reboot system now. What do I do to fix this? Oh and my computer does not recognise the device either.
Thanks!
Callum

Samsung Unusual Between Boot loop and Softbrick? Data recovery.

Hey guys,
Is data recovery possible after a flash? Also, what is wrong? I have searched but no answer directly hits on this. I am not a tech guy- Biology- sorry for that ahead. To the issue, I dlowded a software update to my Galaxy s3.....and boom froze on Samsung screen. I can turn phone off and on. It would not boot past Samsung. So I went into cache partrition, and tried a system reboot- cannot. So then I seen a program that supposively recovers data after factory reset if you do nothing else to the phone. However, problem I hit te dreaded factory reset- nothing. Over a software update? My computer is not recognizing the device. So I went to Samsung, they tried installing software, however, the computers were recognizing, but not connecting. One tech said they did not have flash- I went back again, the othertech said they did. Anywho, after 4 days, I forked my phone over to a repair guy. He I believe tried Odin- as it currently sits in odin mode. Now it was getting into download mode- but ow I have this message- " Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." A samsung guy mentioned it might be able to be flashed, as my concern data- not backed up. This info is pretty important, as I have several contacts and mssgs. The two modes my phone can go into: Odin and recovery. I could really use the help, on both saving data, and getting the phone to fire- as it might be able to- but data?
Thanks in advance.

Problems recovering Stock Android Backup on Asus Zenfone

(with stock android backup, i mean the default andorid recovery tool, which is preinstalled)
Hey there.
Im totally lost on this one... and also not so skilled with Android....
The Device is a ASUS Zenfone MAX 3 - X008 (ZC520TL) with the latest Official Firmware.
No mods, no nothing.
So my bottom microphone broke a few days ago and ASUS Support told me to try a Factory Reset.
But since i dont wanna brick my Phone or loose my Guarantee (because the Microphone is broken),
i was very limited with the Backup method. So i backed up all my User Data with Android Stock Recovery.
This created "UserData_w454387564835693.backup" Files without a Problem.
Then i did the Factory Reset and tried what ASUS suggested me.
But it didnt work and so i wanted to recover my just backed up files.
Booted to Recovery and recovered the Files without Problem.
Then started the Phone and after the BootLogo and a little time it displays me an error:
"Decryption unsuccesfull! Yout Password is correct, but your Data is corrupted, please Reset your Phone"
..... and now i dont know what to do.... but my userdata backup is very important.
i dont even know what format it is with ending at *.backup....
PLEASE HELP!
*edit*
i did the recovery via my sd card and when i reset the phone again it works (with factory reseted stock firmware)
but as soon as i succesfully recover my backup files, it gives me that error...
Ok, so ASUS Support just replied me that they do not support Backup and Recovery via the Stock Android Recovery. Its just for resetting the Phone.
And the Reason why its not supported is that Android Auto-Activates the Encryption which breaks the Backup, they saied.
Well ok... Luckily i did backup the most important Data via Google Sync,
but many things like my Photos are only in this Backup File.
Is there any way i can access this *.backup Files and extract Data to my PC?
Please help!

Recover data from corrupted storage

Hi all,
I have a Galaxy S7 Edge SM-G935V and the other day I put my case on and put the phone in my pocket not realizing I had put the case on upside down. With the case on the wrong way, the power and volume buttons were pressed and the phone rebooted several times. I thought I was just getting notifications when my phone was vibrating in my pocket, but in reality it was vibrating because it was rebooting. It must have booted to recovery and/or download mode and then because the buttons were still pressed, rebooted again and again. When I checked my phone after a few minutes of it unknowingly rebooting, it was in recovery mode so I attempted to boot normally. It didn't fully boot, but I got a message "Phone storage corrupt. The data partition has been corrupted. You need to reset your phone to factory default settings. This will erase all your data."
Now, I'm an IT professional so I know how storage disks work. I know that the partition table is probably corrupt but the data itself is probably intact. I would like to recover the data on the partition such as photos, videos, texts etc, but since the phone doesn't fully boot, I can't get to the storage from a PC, and when I connect via ADB I get the message "error:closed" when I try to do anything.
My questions/thoughts:
In the same way you would slave a damaged hard drive to recover the data, is there a way to access the partition without booting to it?
Is there a way to do a full ADB backup of the partition and try to extract the data from the backup?
Is it possible to install a custom recovery and do an image backup of the partition and try to extract the data from that?
What is the likelihood of recovering the data after a reset to factory settings? I have access to professional data recovery software and I'm willing to spend some money on specific software for Android recovery.
Is there any other way that anyone can think of to retrieve data from an Android device that can't boot? Or to repair the corrupt partition?
