I, probably like many many others are baffled by the gross disregard that the Facebook for Android app has gotten from it's developers. It has not been updated in months and it is missing many many features which I am sure they are aware of. Android is the hottest smartphone platform out today and it has probably the worst Facebook app of all of them. If anyone has any insight on this situation, please enlighten the rest of us.
That being said, are there any good alternative Facebook apps out there that someone using straight Android 2.2 could use? http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
well, i wouldn't go with the worst. you obviously haven't seen BB's so called "facebook app"
but yes...it def needs some work
You're right, it's not the worst...but it deserves better. I haven't played with BB's FB app in a while, at one point it was descent, but I don't know what it looks like now.
At least with BB's fb app, you can open up notifications within the app itself. That's a major plus.
Tweetdeck is a pretty good alternative.

tweetdeck is cool, but its still missing features. honestly the best way is to just use the facebook through the browser. thats what i do lol
Today I received an email announcement from PhotoVine. I could finally go download the app. I see a link for the iPhone app. Surely there is also one for the Android as PHOTOVINE IS OWNED BY GOOGLE. It must have been omitted by mistake. Checking the Android Market, I see no "PhotoVine." More digging on the net reveals that there is indeed NO app ready yet for the Android.
Talk about DIS! Google fragments the damn Android platform then doesn't have the decency to treat us as equal users with iPhone. If it takes more work to fully support Android, that's not my problem. The only message I hear is DIS for us Android users. They should at least delay the iPhone app release until they can support both at the same time.
If Google wants to treat us this way, hello iPhone 5.
Bye...

Thanks for seeing me off so quickly. My contract has at least another year to go.
Photovine is an social photo service with an App made by a Google company that is not available for Android.

doesnt the pool party do the same?
Do they have a mobile website you can use instead of an app?
Have to agree with the original poster here. Photovine must be an acquisition - not only did they release only to iOS but they have a fairly active twitter feed hyping the product - this should have been released to Android at the same time or at least shortly thereafter. Discussions should be on Google+ not twitter - not saying it has to be exclusive but to have no connection to loyal android/ Google users is wrong.
Since Larry Page came back as CEO I have been impressed that Google once again seems to be releasing and innovating at near warp speed again - sorry but so far Photovine has been old Google all the way. Not dumping my HTC Evo or Motorola Xoom (errr Google Xoom?) - but I'm disappointed - now get back to work Googlers and get the android version done!
Feel like I am kinda bringing up an old fire that originally was bs.
That said there is new information to support this.
There have been screen shots of a test version of bbm (Who knows if they are legit). With that in mind Research In Motion is now releasing Android into their management services. This seems to bring the reality of BBM one step closer.
The burning question would then be will it be free, a one time purchase or a monthly subscription fee.
Would you be willing to pay rim a monthly fee for bbm?
No thanks
For me if you want BBM like all the little schoolgirls out there then buy a blackberry... no offence but I much prefer whatsapp anyway, its free and extremely reliable, I see no reason why ppl would pay for BBM which is only for blackberry (as of now) when they can get great apps like whatsapp and ping chat which are on 4 OS's (Android, Blackberry, IPhone and Nokia and more than likely WP7 now Nokia has teamed up with them)
Just my view dude

Isn't Whatsapp like a one year trial or something
I would use bbm on android. Using Whatsapp is still kinda cumbersome compared to bbm. Love my android though and wouldn't go back to blackberry
i would not use it i prefer whatsapp for free sms`s over 3g and viber for free calls over 3g
It's a 'yes' from me.
I have corporate clients who are on berry with BBM and use group chat, so I carry one just for them.
So for me a plus is that I can avoid carrying a second phone about; therefore even a paid-for BBM on Android would probably end up saving me money.
The downside is that my BB practically never goes flat, whereas I generally carry (at least) two batteries for my sensation.

I'd use BBM on my Android since a lot of my friends over sea have Blackberry's.
Oddy enough Blackberry's seem to be pretty big outside of the states. However I wouldn't pay a fee to use a BBM app.
Catfiz
my first post ... maybe you can try this one Catfiz it's like BBM, search on Google keyword "Catfiz"
Not sure I would have a use for it anymore. It's been a little while since I had my Curve, but the one thing I didn't like about BBM was that at the time I couldn't turn it off. Maybe things have changed, but with most people I know on gchat, it just one more thing to run in the background.
If someone of your friends which own a BB cannot install third party applications due to companies restrictions (this is why several companies are still using BB... cause they can control employes devices and give them access to mail servers and other stuff in a secure way for them) it will be useful to use BBM over our android devices without the needs to buy a BB only to use BBM.
At the end you can choose to use it or not.
there's a need for devices that don't have some kind of data plan and are wifi only. I wanted to use whatsapp, but can't on my xoom as I have a wifi version. Pity as it sounded good.
sooo... we're now in April of 2013, is BBM for Android any closer to reality?

In the past couple of months, Glacier has been there for me, whenever I need to check the map, record the moment of laughter, read a book, check Facebook or Twitter, call or text my friends and families...It has been a great time; but there are times when I have to say good bye.
ALSO, the biggest thanks to all people in this community--superusers, developers, and others who contributed towards the growth of this community. Thank you all for the support and help. Keep the great ROMs/Kernals coming! Enjoy the beauty of Android. See you in Galaxy Nexus.
Have fun!

Hello all.
After having some good time with note 2 whatsapp group, I am thinking of starting a similar group for note 3 users. In my experience its quite useful as one can get instant help from group members, chit chat related to phones, discussions on roms, apps etc.
Anyone interested can join. I am adding a link to a google doc sheet. Add your num and name and then I will add you.
<LINK REMOVED>
9 people have added their details so far. Will wait for a few more to get started.
I am only able to add 6 people as others are not appearing with whats app icon. Kindly check the sheet and try adding me. Invitation sent to other 6 guys.
Add me as well.

WhatsApp killed your account? - Unless you are sending malicious texts they won't stop your account. - only people who can block you are the end users themselves. also WhatsApp is known to stop randomly working. a reinstall often fixes it. try a direct msg with someone, PM me i'll give you my number if you wish to try

I am using it for 6 months dude, I never ever sent any kind of malicious text. I am now getting the message that your number is no longer allowed to use our services. Its been 5 days with that, I even sent them emails too, no reply. I am still in shock. I am thinking of 2 things.
Someone might have reported me as a spam and they took action.
Or
I was sending group invited randomly to people who added their details, may be they took it as spamming?
But note 2 group admin did the same and nothing happened.
I wish there is a way out.

Ahh, mass adding numbers may have triggered their spam filter, however in order for it to work you need to have people in your phone book so not sure why it has triggered. - It is possible it has been reported or an online bot has picked up on it as the spread sheet is available publicly? -- Their support does indeed suck tbh, spam them on Twitter they usually reply pretty quick there!
EDIT: Alternative is to set up a BBM group instead man they have a massive group function and it's easier to manage

Hi,
Sharing of personal information like phone numbers etc can lead to a lot of unknown inconvenience, no matter how good the intentions are.
