Hi everyone,
I just got my SHIELD a couple of days ago but I have a big issue: I cannot connect it to my PC.
SPECS:
I5 3.2 GHZ
GTX 670
16 GB RAM
SSD
WIRELESS etc.
I made all the steps I found everywhere: reinstall everything, disable firewalls, force stream detection, run steam in every possible way etc
Nothing works.
I get "No available GTX PCs found"
Anyone might think to any issue?
I want to mention I have no streaming tab under my rig, but I have the streaming option enabled.
My router: D-link dir-615
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I read all the Q&A posts and tried everything
Have you tried restarting the NVIDIA Streaming Service? Also, it seems like your router doesn't work very well with streaming. Check it out:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aosy4xxp8QsmdFBfcjZOZXdITTlqQ1Z1OXRlOXFrY lE#gid=0
Yes, the service is started. I kept restarting it, even ran the streaming exe and works OK.
I forgot to mention, and should be important, I'm from Europe.
But I downloaded the setups fro GForce Experience through a US VPN so I should have the US version.
Done that for the drivers also. Tried also with latest beta drivers. Nothing.
From what I understand the router should allow me to see the computer at least.
I had a lot of trouble with my shield too, but now it working good(mainly because I got a new router). To get mine to work
I had to forget the connection on shield and pc. reboot pc, shield, router, then reconnect b4 doing anything else on the pc,
shield, or router. then it would work for like 2 days then start all over.
and you really should get a 5ghz router.

Thanks blinkdragonid,
I'll try your advice and come back with more info.
In the end I guess I'll get a new router but I want to make sure this thing works before going to next step.
Nothing worked
I'll try with another router, but until then anyone feel free to post.
I'm thinking it should see my PC even though it doesn't stream well
I would like to add another questio:
My "Game Streaming" tab / box is missing but I have the streaming in settings checked.
Was that removed from latest GeForce Experience build or it should be there?
Without that box the streaming doesn't work?

There is no streaming tab, just a check box under preferences.
try this forum https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/571048/nvidia-shield/shield-unable-to-discover-pc-master-thread/
check your router setting too. turn off firewall and turn on upnp open up some ports maybe? is the pc wireless?
I have tried everything, I got the recomended router, a gtx 650, latest drivers, gfe experince installed however
there is not streaming tab or preference under my rig or anywhere.
Im completely stumped. My shield is connected to the same router as my windows 8 pc
cant detect anything
would appreciate some help? Im in india by the way so im not sure if thats got somthing to do with it. Nvstreamer is running too.

I tried Windows 8. I didnt really like it and I has trouble streaming and went back to windows 7 and HAD trouble again. I did multiple restarts.
It found the pc ( im on driver 320.49 i dont think its beta) but didnt find steam. I removed the my PC on the shields end and not on the pc and reauthorized and bam steam shows up. I start it and no controller!!! restart everything. no controller. I installed my 360 wireless adapter and now the controller works!?
the best way to solve streaming issues is to wipe and reinstall windows. just download what you need for streaming and test it. If that doesnt work go buy a recommended wireless router<if that doesnt work you can always return it. Thats what i did with best buy returned and got the cheaper version of it and works great. Asus rt-n65r
the problem I think is that I have only 2gb ram, waiting for my desktop now
OK so I finally got it working.
It wasn't the router, it wasn't the firewall.
It was the MDNS client from the Shield.
It just won't connect to my PC no matter what.
Solution:
Install the SHIELD Proxy APK from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2435481
I want to thank cgutman for posting that.
After I installed that, entered my computer's local IP address in the app, left the default port value (in my case 192.168.0.105) everything worked great.
On my D-Link DIR-615, sometimes was laggy but didn't stop me from enjoying Crysis 3

It's easier if I just post a link to the thread over at smartappsworld so I'm not stuck re-writing it all. http://smartappsworld.com/thread-t...-getting-error-692-hardware-failure-in-modem
I still have not been able to resolve these issues. Tethering worked without problems on my Q9M, but on the TP2 it gives me error 692 -There was a hardware failure in the modem - . Internet sharing isnt cooperating either. New hardware wizard in XP pops up for Generic RNDIS device. When I tried to feed it some drivers for Internet Sharing (pulled by another xda member in another thread here somewhere), XP gives me some bogus error about a missing entry in one of the .inf files that I pointed it towards. It doesnt specify which file, then it closes and there is a big yellow ( ! ) over Internet Sharing device in network devices (Driver not installed).
Thats a quick run through of the issues I'm dealing with. I really need this working as this is my only way to connect my PC to the internet. I live in boonie land where cable is nowhere in my neighborhood and dsl is too far to connect.
Yes I searched. I spent a great deal of time going through xda forums and Google... before I decided to post here. Thanks for anyones help in advance.
T.C.
I have not had a problem tethering my tp2 with verizon using Win XP Pro x64, or XP home x86.
The way that works for me is:
Run the internet sharing program, Not the VZW access manager crap.
Tell it to connect
After it connects, then plug in usb from pc to phone
The pc recognizes it as another network connection
It gets its IPs and all no problems.
Open up your choice of browser and off you go.
I have never had to install drivers to do any of this, and also it doesnt use active sync when doing it this way.
hope this helps.
I pulled the internet sharing program out of the Windows folder (made a shortcut ). The problem is when I connect to the PC. The install new hardware wizard comes up for Generic RNDIS device. This is after I clicked "Connect" in IS. I have clicked cancel , then it says install failed, your new hardware may not work properly. IS disconnects and Activesync starts syncing. I tried it the first way , letting AS sync once then turning IS on, same problem.
I dont use VZ Access Manager. I was forced to uninstall that and Activesync when suddenly the PC wouldnt recognize anything while the phone was plugged in. After that, the phones internet wouldn't work either so I then had to restore the phone to factory defaults via a hard reset. After resetting, I found that 228 wouldn't program the phone. The next day I nearly took it in to VZW. tried 228 again and it worked finally. Got my phone internet back and I'm back to trying to get IS working. I didn't install VZAM, but I do have the USB driver installed.
Are there certain files that are needed on XP for this? I am still running 32bit XP Pro if that makes any difference. Service packs maybe? I'm up to the point where I'm about to go out and buy a WiFi card and try connecting it that way. Something Has to work here.
The generic RNDIS ( Remote Network Driver Interface Specification ) drivers are part of the ActiveSync install and are needed for TCP/IP between the PC and the phone.
Install ActiveSync.
Plug in the phone.
Don't cancel the New Hardware Found - let it install the drivers.
Set up a sync relationship with the PC if you like - not needed.
When you tell ICS to connect, it should drop any other connection to the PC (Hard Drive, Active Sync) and make the Windows connect sound. Then you should see the network negotiation icon in the System Tray as it sets up the internet sharing.
When I dont cancel New Hardware wizard, it doesn't find any drivers to install. This is if I let it search for drivers automatically, and after Activesync is installed. See what the problem is here? What should normally work, doesn't. Are there key files missing in the copy of Activesync that is included on the CD from VZW? What am I missing here? When I turn Internet sharing on, on the phone, it always says something like ''Check USB cable connection'' and it never changes. The hardware wizard never finds the drivers, and when I try to point it towards driver files, it says theres an entry missing and wont install.
Grr..if you read through the other thread link above, you know how long i have been trying to get it to work. Frustrating!!

I myself use WalkingHotSpots http://www.walkinghotspot.com/. It is 24.99 for a lifetime license and currently they allow you to use the license over and over when you upgrade your phone. I used it first when I had the Touch Pro and now I am using it with my TP2. It is a program that allows me to add up to 5 connections and use my TP2 as a Hotspot. Now of course it would requre you to have your TP2 connected and charging via wall outlet. But basically it will allow me to connect 3G using my WiFi. I just used it Tuesday night while at church to connect back to my business server and resolve some databases issues. My laptop was running at an excellent speed and I was online over 2 hours with no drop connections. The walking hotspot website says that it will not work with Verizon but I can personally say that it does. I do not have the Internet connection software installed on my TP2 so I am going all WiFi for my connection. I added a password and name for my Walking HotSpot so no random joe could just drive by and conect lol and I was up and running in about 10 minutes. They don't offer a free tiral but you can try it for 1 month for 6.99 and if it doesn't work you will not have wasted 25.00. Just choose to use it for a Touch Pro and you should be able to get the download. I have had it over a year now and it has come in very handy especially when I go home to visit Mom as she has no internet and walking hot spots runs my husband's laptop and mine without any issues. So whatever you ultimately do I hope you get it worked out
WMWifiRouter
I use WMWifiRouter on my phone for internet sharing. It works great. This may be an alternative for you.
http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
(the site appears to be down at the moment)
I just loaded a program called PdaNet and was really amazed at how easy it was to install. Hooked up on Verizon @ 2.4mbps - actually faster than my DSL!!!
I've only tried it a couple times but I recommend going to here http://www.junefabrics.com/pdanet/index.php and download a trial version.
WMWiFiRouter
I second the vote for WMWiFiRouter. I used it on my Mogul and now on my TP2 (both with Sprint) -- no issues whatsoever -- more importantly, no tethering fees.
For me now, when i use USB or Bluetooth over ICS, my browser has to go to 3g.vzwdun.com. It didn't use to do that before. How can I keep the device from reporting that I'm tethering...
Hey everyone, just finished installing Ubuntu to my dell mini 10v netbook. I really like it so far but I have hit a problem that may be a potential deal breaker. Has anyone running Ubuntu 9.10 been able to tether their phone to their computer?. It does not seem to connect to my phone running this app for me. It sees the SSID, and i tell it to connect, and then I just get that circle thing for a couple of minutes then it gives up and connects to my main router if its in range.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm not sure if its Ubuntu or the app, it worked perfect with XP
I don't run Ubuntu on my netbook so it may be slightly different, but I have it working great on mine running Arch Linux. Wifi tether uses an Ad-Hoc mode where most routers/access points use Infrastructure mode. You may have to tell network-manager or whatever controls your wireless settings to use Ad-Hoc. If that doesn't work you could set it up manually through the command line or make a little script with those commands to do it so you don't have to type them in every time.
thanks for the reply. I did some searching and came across this page http://www.ubuntugeek.com/creating-an-adhoc-host-with-ubuntu.html and i hooked my phone up to my windows computer, copied the info verbatim to my ubuntu netbook setting up a manual connection like that page suggested and it says it connects, but my phone doesnt show anything is connected and it wont go online
I am able to tether just fine via my Dell mini9 running Ubuntu 9.10. Are you able to connect to other networks?
yeah i can connect to my home fios router just fine
FoxRacR17 i was having the same issues with my dell 1501 laptop.. Looks like your laptop might be using the bcm43xx chip-set from broadcom which doesn't support ad-hoc fully native yet on all cards.

Turns out it was my wireless driver.

Thanks for the replies guys, i got it fixed. I saw people saying to try the netbook remix version of ubuntu so I went ahead and installed it. At first it wasnt detecting any hardware drivers so it wasnt even giving me the option to install drivers for my wireless this time. But i went into terminal (with my ethernet cord plugged in and netbook connected to the internet) and issued "sudo apt-get update" and it went thru and downloaded a bunch of stuff that took a while, and then i went back to restricted drivers and this time I had TWO options for my wireless card, one that was licensed propitiatory from broadcom themselves labeled "Broadcom STA wirless driver" and one that was licensed as free and labeled "Broadcom B43 wireless driver" I installed the STA one and now my netbook connects perfectly to my hero and i can go online again thru my phone. Hope this helps you guys out

Really, if can do the remote desktop thing so you can do basic point and click games?
Haven't tried to play any games but if it's basic point clicks should be do able if speed is not a factor.
sorry to disappoint you but clicks in games are very clunky at the best...Not sure why but my first guess would be there are some fundamental differences between inputs in windows api and DirectX api.. and in many (not all) games, a single click seems to only trigger a mouse-over event and you have to double click really fast and precisely in the same position to make it registered as a mouse click.

well for the moment it doesnt matter as I cant see my pc with it.
tried last night with Splashtop... the standard free version only lets u get 1024x768, while HD can get u 1280x720(extra 80 pixel taken by the bottom bar)
i tried launching Mass Effect from it, and it says failed, cos it doesnt support full screen application...
another thing worth mentioning is that the mouse control(or touchpad) is very awkward to use... it's the same control as android, right click = back, where the actual Windows right click = Hold Left Click..
also, the stream is rather laggy, i tried watching video on it.. it's not smooth, i guess it streams less then 24 fps then.. not yet practical, but got its potential, do hope Asus would improve it in the future

My problem is still at getting it and my pc to see each other, but last night I had some network issues. (First could ping other pc's but no one could ping me and also I didn't even show up on the router as there) But after 4 hours and such I think I just want to figure out how to get a refund from them for the HD copy I got since it just doesn't work for me.
Even after I got my PC to show up on the network and everything else, it still doesn't show up. Load it on another pc boom shows up first time.
Damn, i installed the desktop version and showed me webpage to download splashtop for android. Did this and after 5 minutes it disconnected and showed me a paid app for full functionality. I buyed this, but now after 10 days is see it is included in mycloud. So i asked for a refund and they say: too late! this can only be done in 7 days!

Welcome to the ****ed over club then, I bought the HD and normal one. One for my phone and one for my tablet, and after 5 days of fighting with it I still can't get any of them to see my PC and all they do is shout port forward like I am to stupid to have done that first. The site they have also has limited support.
The one that came with the mycloud stuff I think is the old one and HD is the newer one.
Has anyone used it to stream Netflix from their PC? Youtube seems A-ok.

I haven't tried Netflix, but I've streamed live tv from my PC with a couple of DVB-C cards. This works fine and channel changes are almost as fast as when viewed on the PC directly, so I don't see any reason why Netflix shouldn't work too.
In order to play any game you have to set it to windowed mode. I played SC2 the other night. it wasnt bad but it's hard typing and playing at the same time unless you have the dock with mouse
Splashtop HD supports full-screen, so you can run games and watch videos in full-screen now. As to why your PC isn't detected, have you tried manually adding the internal IP of your PC? Did you try setting up Static internal IP? What kind of router are you running, I know some cheap routers have issues with routing properly even with correct settings.

Aye I did, it's a netgear one. My pc has a set internal ip of 192.168.1.100 and at first no other system could see or ping me, never needed too so the problem was never noticed. I fixed it so now I can be seen and such but the app still won't find my pc, even when I manually add it to the program.
I went to the router and already forwared the ports it needed to .100 on my end and that is the only advise they keep drolling out at me. I know this works and was livid when I installed it on a pc wired into the router and boom found it right away, I know the issue is on my pc side just not sure what.
Hi all,
It's my first time posting here.
Got my TF fro about 2 weeks now, generally quite happy with it but have some problem using splashtop as some of you here.
I wanted to use TF to control my laptop at office. I was able to control my laptop if through local network but when try to control it from outside internet, I have done all the proper portforwarding (setting port 6783~6785 linked to my laptop static IP) I always failed
My laptop connect to office router (WAG200G) through wireless though. Could that be a problem?
Thanks
I can play games with Splashtop HD and they run great (even games like Crysis2).
The only problem is that I must use the same WiFi network.
If I connect my PC from a different network, it's very slow to even just browse my PC, not to mention playing a game.
@liorry how do you connect to PC on different network?
So I am trying to USB tether right? but, for some reason it won't even setup a connection and when I enabled Dedug mode for USB that seemed to get it working. Honestly I don't want to do it that way. I pay for my tethering plan unlike most people on here with T-Mobile.
What I am trying to say is that out the box USB tethering does not work.
Now with Debug enabled I can do it, but when debug is enabled my damn Win 8.1 64 bit flips out! Seriously I don't know what the hell this damn phone is doing to my computer but it forces my CPU to go up to 100% usage!!
I have a 2500 $ laptop bought this year and its a Sager. This laptop has never had an issue until I tried to USB tether while on debug mode...
I need to know how I can just tether this stupid thing to my laptop without using debug OR other apps. I wanna go 100% legit for once! Use every thing how its meant to be used!
Please help!
Is this some kind a joke fellas? NO ONE has seen their computer or laptop flip out when this Nexus 5 starts tethering? Guys this is a major issue that forces my computer to slow speeds once the tether is activated. When the connection is severed my computer works like normal... I was doing tethering on my laptop with a Photon 4G phone and never once seen this issue... I wonder if it has to do with using the infrastructure of the Nexus 5 vs using something like PDAnet or something. Which I can use because I bought it. Easytether sucks though... Well sometimes it sucks.

I've tethered a bunch on Windows 7 tho. Never had a hitch problem. Don't know what to tell you.
I just ran into this exact same problem. WiFi tethering seems to work fine, but enabling USB tethering slow my PC to a crawl. Task Manager is particularly slow to respond while USB tethering is enabled. I've tested with two PCs, and have gotten the same results.

Well then is anyone able to point me toward the correct drivers? The ones that get installed automatically have caused this problem for me now on three different machines, two running Windows 7, and one running Windows 8. The tether works, insofar as I can get online and view websites, but the system slows to the point of unusability at the same time.

Neither the drivers linked, nor the Google drivers as provided in the Android SDK, are the correct driver for the "Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device" that appears when using USB tethering. If the answer to the problem is "we don't know, use WiFi tethering instead" then so be it, I'll make do. It would be nice if even one person could come in here and say "I have a Nexus 5 and USB tethering works fine" though, since if this is indeed a "driver issue" there must be someone out there who has this working fine.

Sorry to raise a thread, but I am having the same issue as the OP with a Nexus 5 and Windows 8.1. Thethering on USB causes the machine to slow, CPU to spike, although the internet connection is established. Has anyone found any fix? I have tried resetting the device, using it on another machine and it still has the same issue.
As soon as the Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device is listed in Device Manager, my machine spikes. Have tried uninstalling the driver and letting in re-install as well. Driver for the NDIS piece is from Microsoft. Can't find anything else.
Thanks!
i have the same issue, always have done and the only solution i found was just to use wifi tethering. tried changing drivers but nothing has worked.
i have this issue on a samsung galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition P605 uses the Remote NDIS driver like the nexus 5 wifi teathering perfectly fine USB Teathering is bad the driver will dropout or if i unplug the tablet from the computer it will either speed back up or act as if it is still connected.... when rebooting it will not reboot if i have unplugged it and it still thinks its connected but if i dont unplug it and reboot it will blue screen with a usb bugcode or something like that....
ps sorry for posting to this post even though my issue is with a SGN10.1 2014
Had anybody figured out a fix for this crazy issue? I've been trying to fix this for a while now but nothing seems to working!

Same problem here.
I can also use ADB shell with the drivers but when I enable USB Tethering the computer starts to slow down and CPU to 100%
(Using OnePlus btw)
Thanks!
I have the same problems. Was anyone able to solve the problem?

I was able to solve the problem by changing the driver of the device. In case anyone is interested, here are the steps
Plug the phone to the USB and enable USB tethering
Go to Device Manager. Under Network Adapters a "Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device" should be listed. Right click on it and click on Update Driver... > Search on the computer > Choose manually from a list....
Here, uncheck Show compatible hardware, then go to Microsoft and search for "Remote NDIS Compatible Device" on the right. Click next and Yes in the warning message that appears. Now the computer should behave normally.
Thanks buzz. Worked for my Nexus 5x

It is a general error with the shield and geforce experiences, i had the same issue and the only way that i get it fixed it, it was deleted the pc on my shield and restard the shield, then activate beta versions on nvidia xperiences and update the application, then restart the pc and add the computer again and issue solved, i hope this help you to solve the error
Well I can click that now but no matter what I cannot stream it says its launching the game and it does on my computer but it flashes right back to launching game screen on shield
Mine was doing something similar and i was just happening to be modifying my router at the same time. I noticed a slight discrepancy in what GFE had my pc named as, and what it was actually named. Deleted my shield from GFE, Renamed my pc, rebooted my pc, readded my shield and everything worked fine
