ExFAT is not supported and NTFS is read-only. You need to use FAT32, or try to format it to ext4.

It's a 64gb card an d I am using Windows 8. So what should I do?

It says it formatted card to fat32 but still does not let me move apps to it.
I can copy files to it on my shield by using a file manager so I know the system can use the card...

on my file manager it is under: Storage\sdcard1

I copied a test text file to the card and put back into the shield, and it's working now!

Format of the SD card when your format it in your phone

I just formatted my SD card when it was mounted in my phone using the settings in the phone. Anyone know what format they use? I'm looking for Fat32 to load a ROM. Thanks

The Android OS uses the FAT32 file system for your sd card, but I'm not sure what you mean by needing it to load a ROM..

I can confirm that if you put in a 64GB mSD card and format it in the GS3, it will be formatted exFAT. I don't know about the smaller size cards.

yeah, depending on the size of the sdcard, you may need to manually reformat it on a computer. Directions from here.
You need to have your SD Card formatted to FAT32. exFAT WILL NOT WORK. So if you're like me and have a 64GB SD card, neither Android nor windows will let you format to FAT32 natively, so you have a few options.
Using command prompt within windows:
http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/moto...-fat-32-a.html
Use a disk management program like Acronis Disk Director (I think they may have a free trial but don't quote me on that).

phone wont read sd card

I have the card in the phone and it was reading it just fine. I turned the phone on and off and it will not read the SD card now.
I tried to
1. turn it on and off again
2. open the back and re insert the card.
3. I tried to go to settings and mount the card but it says the card is not present
4. I used the card on my PC and it can read it fine.
Thanks for the help

The sd card my just be broken. Where did you get it from? Was it used before? Send a link of the sd card that you have.
Have you copied the contents of your sd card onto your computer, formatted the sd card to Fat32, then copied those files back onto your sd card?
This should fix you up...
1) Power down phone
2) Remove card
3) Mount the card in a card reader on a Windows machine and have it do an error check (and automatically fix file system errors).
4) While Windows is scanning your card, boot your phone with an empty card slot and then shut it down again after the boot is complete.
5) When Windows has finished repairing the card, reinsert in phone and boot normally. If it was not a physical problem with the card it should work again.

I had nothing on the card and formatted just before I put it in the G 3. It was working for the 1st day. Then it was not working. I then reformatted it again in my pc but it still was not being read.

You can't copy more than 4 GB on FAT32 formatted sd card.

Indeed, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table for more information, you will need to reformat your sdcard to another file system format that supports larger files (but note if your using windows your options are limited!)
then what format do i use?
obviously not FAT16, an i heard that NTFS is read-only for android system

Well thats the thing if your using windows there isnt really a file format you can use thats natively supported with windows, but I believe you could use ext3 and use thrid party software to access it in windows

Adoptable storage: Is it possible to move apps to porable storage using a root mod?

I've just updated my Motorola Moto E 2015 to Android 6 and tested the adoptable storage. Sadly it is only possible to move apps to the sd card if the card is formatted as an internal storage device. In this mode the sd card cannot be read from another computer and the twrp recovery cannot use the card to store backups. Also when the phones encryption key is lost there is no way to recover the data.
Is there maybe some way to move the apps to the sd card without encrypting the sd card? My phone is rooted and I also have the Xposed framework installed, but I didn't find any guide for something like this.
Did u try an app called "Move app to SD card"?

I've tried the app, but it tells me that moving apps is not necessary because the sd card shares the drive with the operating system. But that is not true. I have the internal drive under /storage/emulated/0 and the sd card under /storage/sdcard1. How can I fix that?

I'm not sure, I don't have the device but my friend does. You might have to do it manually through root explorer or another file manager.

adoptable/internal storage help

hey guys i kinda screwed something up, i was going to swap from using my sd card internal storage to portable so i backed up the data folder and the obb folder, then i formatted the sd card to portable storage and then i realised that there was no where near enough space for all my apps and i found out you cant move them to the sd card so i switched the sd card back to internal storage.
so formatted the sd card but now when i use es file explorer ti says the the card cannot be found so i cant set thing back to how they were?
any idea how to get the sd card to work as it did?

i just checked and my sd card is formatted to f2fs mate but it is working now somehow
You optionally need twrp with f2fs support, you can find it on xda, not on twrp.me. @robgee789
I think you need only twrp:
