I'm using Embyo 7, like it, but no longer being supported or developed. It has a feature I need, that is, the ability in the ROM options to disable Microsoft Exchange security features that are imposed by my employer in order to get their Exchange email. I can now use the stock email client for my Exchange email, without having to put a PIN in each time, or risk it being wiped by the corporate IT department.
Any other ROM's support this feature?
All of them, just do a search for the modded apk, uninstall the email client from any ROM u flash and install the nodded one. Its what I did on beanstalk.

What features does the captivate support with exchange? Remote wipe etc...

Since when does Exchange have a remote Wipe feature?
Exchange works just fine for me, it integrates contacts, calendar, email. Compared to windows mobile, it seems like it works pretty much flawlessly. I actually receives emails faster than outlook

Remote wipe is dependent on your version of Exchange - Exchange 2007 supports it and is user selectable (webmail -> options -> mobile devices)
There are some bugs in the current captivate Exchange implementation:
1. Email - shows all folders under inbox, but only syncs inbox in real time. You need to open other folders and then it syncs. Not configurable
2. Contacts - Groups don't work, nor do they work with Google, unless you are using the AT&T address book - then they sort of work
3. Calendar - no selectable data - so if you have URL or Phone numbers in the calendar meeting you need to "Edit" then Copy, then paste to get a phone number out.
Otherwise PUSH and Sync work very well. They also have a feature that only WinMo ever implemented - Peak and off Peak times for data sync. So you can turn off PUSH while you sleep and on weekends - if you want.
Hopefully everyone will contact Samsung about these bugs.

Since Exchange 2003 SP2 or later, IIRC. And since WM 5.0 and later.
Other than above mentioned shortcomings, I also found following issues with current Captivate Exchange support:
1. Deleted individual meetings from a recurring event still show up.
2. Some reported that deleted folders still show up as well.
3. No option to chose which folder to sync.
In addition, I don't believe it supports any of the encryption policy that may be required by your corporate IT.
IMO, the exchange support in Android is very basic and barely meets the requirement of most corporate IT.
I wonder if the Froyo Exchange client is better? Does anyone know?
@NFSSAM - Exchange has had remote wipe capabilities since Exchange 2003.
@alphadog00 - Here's another one: The Captivate shows folders that are in your recycle bin as accessible folders in Exchange.
Most Android phones do not support the password policy or encryption. My company requires at least a 4 digit password and the pattern lock does not meet that requirement so when I attempt to set up exchange, I of course receive an error. Touchdown is the best app I have found that supports all policies. You get a password prompt when accessing any Exchange data. The only phones that I have found that support password policies out of the box are HTC since they have their own Exchange client built in to Sense.
Yeah the security policies thing is a problem with my exchange as well.
Also, you cannot access the corporate contact lookup u less you added them to your contacts list in outlook.
Remote wipe does not work either.
Froyo adds a lot more features to exchange but it could be a while before we get 2.2.

Hello,
first time Android user here. I know people in my company that use Android phones and I was told that anything over 2.1 would work for our exchange. When I try to set up the account, it tells me that the server requires security features the phone doesn't have. No one at my IT department, TMO support, Samsung Support, or anyone else could get it working. I know it has something to do with the password protection and remote wipe security that my companies exchange server requires. Can someone help me or will i have to go back to the blackberry ? I don't want to go back to that berry.
Try installing K9 and see if it works with your company's exchange system.

Touchdown works well with exchange as well (although it's not free). There is a free trial.
I was using touchdown untill android 2.2 came out then it started supporting remote wipe.

Once you setup your phone it should force you to password lock it from the home screen. Don't know what else they would require other than remote wipe in the event you left the company. I need to make sure I use ssl as well.
Could be a problem with the SSL cert
I use exchange with no problems on all my android projects.
I still have not gotten this to work. N1kkI6, that is exactly what i need on this. I would assume that 2.3 would have this if 2.2 has it right?
from the link you provided:
Exchange support
Improved security with the addition of numeric pin or alpha-numeric password options to unlock device. Exchange administrators can enforce password policy across devices.
Remote wipe: Exchange administrators can remotely reset the device to factory defaults to secure data in case device is lost or stolen.
Exchange Calendars are now supported in the Calendar application.
Auto-discovery: you just need to know your user-name and password to easily set up and sync an Exchange account (available for Exchange 2007 and higher).
Global Address Lists look-up is now available in the Email application, enabling users to auto-complete recipient names from the directory.

It should work fine. It could possibly be ssl certificate related, or maybe they don't have ActiveSync enabled on your account.. who knows. What sort of error do you get if any? I use Android on Exchange. Is it Exchange 2003/2007/2010?

Hi guys
i'm thinking of throwing Android on my HD2 but before I do, I need to know if I can support a couple of things?
Can I support two exchange email accounts?
Will it pull sync ALL info including pictures of people from the server?
Are there any particular fields that are not supported, like the "Notes"?
Is there a Microsoft OneNote client?
I'm guessing there is no MS Zune client at the moment either? Does anyone know if there are any plans?
To support the above, do I need a specific version of Android?
Thanks!!!!
Our Exchange setup was just changed to support the enhanced security features and they just forced the "remote wipe" capability.
So everybody who was used to the stock client is shut out!
Google issued a patch for the same BUT to ENTERPRISE customers only!
googleenterprise dot blogspot dot com/2011/04/putting-android-to-work-for-your.html
What the hell was that about.
The stock android mail client was working for me a lot of the people and now it just gives some error about unable to connect.
Now if we need our corporate email we have to either buy the Commercial product:
TouchDown Email : $20
MoxiMail : $20
Enhanced Email : $10
OR compromise with the free clients which just does mail.
K-9 Mail works for most of the Motorola Droid phones.
I have a LG GT540 and it stopped after a day.
MailDroid works better on LG GT540 android phone. I have a rooted android 2.2 on GT540.
All the free mail clients are the basic exchange mail clients which can help you to read email and reply to email.
It does not have GAL (corporate addressbook Lookup). So you need to know the email address of the person to send email to.
Workaround: Corporate AddressBook
Looks up corporate addressbook and has search function.
After a few weeks use most of them switched to MailDroid which seems to be more stable.
Any of the genius out there who have been working on the ROM have been able to get the patch in so that the stock email client can work as it is supposed to work?
That was the core function most users use their phone for and now it does not work unless you pay up and buy a commercial product.
Help please
EVO 4G Exchange server
I have this work phone that I want to root but I don't want to mess up the ssl encryption. Will this happen if I root my phone. I don't want to go back to the IT Dept. to get it. The encryption is on my phone, but I can't see it. How do I save the encryption.
Is there a Email client I can download that will connect to our Exchange server and ignore the security policies?
I have tried the various utilities that remove the security, but apparently my midnight rom does not have a standard email.apk file for it to modify, and I don't know where to look to find the email utility.
I am willing to pay a few bucks to get full email functionality w/out all the security policy crap.
Advise?
Drakba
I just installed Mailwise to be able to receive e-mail on my Android phone without having to accept restricted company security settings. There are many e-mail clients that support Exchange without enforcing company security settings.
I was wondering if there are also Android applications that can just make the Exchange calendar available? I've been randomly trying calendar apps on the play store and am not having luck. They ask want to add the entire work Google account to the whole phone. I would pay for an app at this point!
Thanks for any help or suggestions!
