I have an iPhone 4s unlocked on T-Mobile and when I roam in the U.P. of Michigan it says AT&T 3G or AT&T E but when I go into the browser it says I am not subscribed to a cellular data service. I am NOT on a prepaid data plan. Using my old android phone data roaming worked. Data Roaming is on. Do I have to set the AT&T apn for data service. I think I tried the att phone apn. Thanks.

I rooted and installed a different ROM on my Inspire, so I have a 3G icon for UMTS and an H icon for HSPA. I just got my unlimited data plan back today from AT&T customer service after the moron at Costco took it away even though I told him I wanted to keep unlimited data, and now I noticed that I no longer have HSPA, I have 3G, and verified it by going into the status and seeing UMTS for the network type. I'm not sure if it's related (the unlimited data plan maybe isn't configured for HSPA?) or if it's a coincidence and there are network problems right now. Can anyone else here who is rooted with the unlimited plan confirm which icon you have and what you see in status? (Settings->About->Network). Thanks

The phone will pull the best signal available. Probably just a temp network issue.
When you are actively using data does it switch the the H?

For some reason my Sensation 4G(TMO-US) won't data roam on AT&T network. Any ideas?
Here's the current situation... 2g is all I can get at home. My 2g icon is showing but NOTHING that requires data will work. I'm roaming on AT&T because I'm outside the city, and voice and text work just fine but when I check my data roaming via *#*#4636#*#* it says not roaming. YES I HAVE DATA ROAMING ENABLED. My gf has the Exhibit 4g and has no issues... When I put her SIM into my phone data works just fine. I've called T-mobile and they claim our phone settings are identical and data roaming is enabled on their end for my SIM but when i put my SIM into her phone it won't connect to 2g. I've removed the battery and SIM, toggled ciphering, had then rebroadcast my number and still nothing. AND YES it's a new SIM card, actually the 2nd one and Tmobile 4g and 2g work just fine as well when I'm in their service area. Any help would be appreciated since T-mobile doesn't see this as a big enough problem. Can I somehow enter an APN for ATT? I'm really out of ideas.

I have the same issue did you ever find a solution?
Tmobile had to have a tech rebuild my profile for their network. Took about a week or so. Everything has been fine since.

has anyone been able to get data service via their verizon sim in shanghai or hk? no problem with voice coverage, but i've had data coverage in shanghai maybe 5% of the time. i couldn't deal with no data in hk and picked up a pccw sim, which works great. their HSPA+ network is pretty solid.
interestingly i've had the same issue with a 3 HK prepaid sim. totally fine voice coverage, no data (on their UMTS network). no convolution of APN settings has done the trick.
i'm on mf1 & liquidsmooth 2.9.
This is a question as to should i trade my verizon unlimited data plan for a att unlimited data plan...My reasons for considering it
1.Verizon 3g/4g in my area Atlanta is no where near as fast as ATT
2.Phone selection self explanatory
3.Never a google play edition
I know Verizon coverage is far superior than ATT and that ATT is still throttling data speeds as well.
Me and my family will be traveling to Jamaica this weekend. From looking at Sprint's coverage map, didn't see any coverage for Jamaica. Question, w/out enabling International services for our phones, is there an app we can use for texting each other? Would this only work if we are connected to a wifi network?
Update: Talked to Sprint, we have Sprint Global Roaming (not warming) which is free. We'll have unlimited text/data, but we'll get charged for any voice calls, $0.20/minute. We will have to connect to a GSM network when we get there.

Do they have to activate something on your phone to connect to a GSM network? My father in law is thinking about switching to our family plan but goes overseas to the Philippines a couple times a year and is worried about connectivity while over there which is all GSM. Thanks!
They updated our Profiles, not sure what got changed.......................then when we arrive in Jamaica, we'll have to go into Settings, More Networks, Roaming, Roaming Network, Automatic, Roaming Settings, check International Voice and International Data..........then Settings, Connections, More Networks, Mobile Networks, Network Mode, Select GSM/UMTS, then select one of the three networks that will be available.
