Is it possible to break the 2 year contract with TMO due to moving out of the country? Does anyone have any suggestions? Been a good TMO customer for 6 years. I know I can just call them up and ask, but want to know if anyone's hit any snags doing this before and how it panned out.
Thanks!
just call them and tell them you are leaving the country and offer to send them a copy of the ticket, they usually will waive any fees.

Have you done this yourself, or know someone that has? I have a plane ticket to come back to the States 6 months later, but then I'm going right back and it will be permanantly.
I just called TMobile myself (took all of 3 minutes to get the information) and told them I was calling for a friend and that I did NOT have an account with them. You need to call them and let them know what is going on. She said depending on where you are in your contract it could be as simple as turning off the service without a cost to you. WORST case, you pay a term fee. Termination fee is based on how far along you are in your contract.
3 minutes on the phone...............my life is over
I can't find this now for some reason ... but FWIW I called my VZ corporate store today and they had "no information" on price yet ... yet BB knows it's $250, why is this?
I'm assuming it's going to be 249 @ vzw as well as BB? Or do you think VZ is going to hit us w/299 and expect us to do a 50 rebate?
I'm going to get the TBolt and if I end up not liking it I'll just sell it after the DInc 2 comes out I'm scared to get a larger phone, I love the size of my Eris .... and we all know SIZE MATTERS
heehee
$250 from Verizon on a 2 year contract, confirmed by V today in a tweet...
This is not the same question as the poster, but it kind of falls under the topic. I was going to order by calling verizon and having them send me the phone(can't get a certain monthly discount on wirefly(so the customer service person tells me)) and they offered to waive the activation fee. But I found a midnight launch here locally and was wondering if those employee's have the ability to waive the activation fee as well? I would try and entice them with buying the same amount in accessories of course.

Verizon retail employees can waive alot of things and give additional discounts. Just say that you really want this phone, but the price is too much. They would want you to be a loyal customer and have you pay $20 less than just walk out.

I wish you the best w/the waiving of the fee .... I recently added a line and they charged the $35, it took a call and then a request to talk to a supervisor .... and many minutes on hold before she came back and told me that, as a one time courtesy they would waive it. They also wanted me to "be sure to understand" that going forward all extra lines would have a fee.
I had to laugh when I hung up 'cuz the CS rep assured me in the first place that I would NOT be able to get the fee waived, even after I asked to speak to a supervisor ... moohoowahhahahahaha, I win! And the fact that she was all *****y about it and I got it waived made it even sweeter!
yay me. From what I understand the store people will tell you they don't have the authority to waive it .... let us know what you find out.

Thank you!
I just ordered from Wirefly.com for 199.99, no rebate required. If you don't mind waiting for FedEx that's the lowest price around right now.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
Verizon is 249.99 plus a 25$ activation fee at their stores. Just checked at store
Just found it on AmazonWireless
Phone 1: HTC ThunderBolt 4G Android Phone (Verizon Wireless)$ 749.99List Price: Remove $ 179.99Price:
In Stock. Usually ships in 24 hours
http://wireless.amazon.com/HTC-ThunderBolt-Android-Verizon-Wireless/dp/B004M5HB6U/ref=sh_br_ph_1
wirefly is still cheaper. 199-25 for the fatwallet cashback. 175 total
plus using the coupon code you get a free 4gb card
I am eligable for an early upgrade but I think it will only work through Verizons website. Wirefly said I am not eligable and Amazon keeps reporting a problem with my info.
This sucks.
An interesting note: I called verizon to ask why i couldn't upgrade though a third party website and they said I just can't. I asked what their price will be and the lady said she didn't know the price but she sees that there will $100 rebate on it.
Did anyone get a 39 dollar surcharge with the unlmited plan ?
Not that I'm aware of. On the phone receipt or your next billing statement?
Yes, mine was $17.xx + $35 activation fee. Please note this is estimate first month bill. I called and asked nicely, they credit back the activation fee. Thanks to the other poster pointed out.
I called and i got my activation fee waived as well. The store i bought it from told me to call and ask. The online verizon page is also advertising waived activation.
I just called and they won't waive it for me because I'm a first time Verizon customer.
I just might be going back to AT&T and get the Inspire instead.
the $35 activation is normal, the other $17 is prob prorated data charge for the month before the start of new billing cycle.

so am i and they waived it. call back and politely state you are still under contract with another carrier and would like them to waive it as a courtesy to you to convince you to go with verizon and not return your phone within the trial period.

I took your advice and called back and they did waive it. Sweet !!!
I get to keep my THUNDERBOLT !!!

Ah those bastards hide the activation fee until the first bill rather than charging you in-store. I will have to call and complain about this.

standard practice
Gent, until i receive my 1st bill, I can't tell for sure indeed they did credit back the $35. The rep told me I could dial #BAL (or whatever), I could see the $35 credit. When I sent this, it sent a text saying I don't have any outstanding balance, no payment, etc.
Hope the rep didn't bs me.
What would be the Early Termination Fee for a Skyrocket if canceled in the first 30 days. Per at&t policy i read it would be 0. I plan on buying a White Skyrocket and cancel the contract on the first week of purchase. But most importantly to Keep the Phone.
Will at&t allow me to keep the phone? I would like to keep the phone, unlock it and finally use it in my main country. I was thinking of buying a Galaxy Nexus but it is still expensive and the Skyrocket strategy plan B would be a cheaper solution if possible.
Feel free to comment. Thanks
less then 30 days you pay a restocking fee at most unless you damaged the phone, then not sure.
you have to return the phone or pay for it outright.
handheld google device
No, AT&T or any other US carrier for that matter will not let you keep the phone if you plan to cancel within 30 days. You will have to bring the phone back to the store to cancel if still within the 30 day period. They will issue a refund for the phone first, then will they cancel the contract.
Is there anyway i can keep the phone without paying the full off-contract price?
In 2007 i brought a couple of iPhones to my country. They were not activated in store and i could keep them. I dont remember much, but i did get to keep my iPhones and then unlocked them myself
Only way I know how is to look on craigslist and find someone selling theirs. That is what I did. I was able to get a skyrocket for $300. It is not as good as as paying $150, but I did not have to sign a contract.

So you want to cancel the 2 year contract you signed, keep the $600 phone that you only payed $150-$250 for as incentive for signing the contract, and pay no termination fee?
Good luck with that!

per at&t policy u must give the phone back during the 30 days if u cancel or change mind trust me if this was not the case people would do this all the time and i would have about 10 new devices right now

AT&T will bill your account the $325 Early Termination Fee, and will only remove it once you return the device. If you don't return it. I imagine they'll continue to add late fees to the bill, or eventually send you to collections if it remains unpaid. You're better off trying to find a used one on CL or eBay. Otherwise save yourself the hassle and buy it outright.
Here in Cincinnati, Cincinnati Bell will buy out your current contract with competitors, maybe you can do the same with a carrier near you. It will require a contract signed with the next carrier, with termination fees probably including the cost to buy out original contract. CBell is GSM, it might work here dependent of frequencies. Thats the only way out as I see it and keeping the device.
"Sticking it to the man" threads are not looked too good upon here.
I was looking to buy a GS3 from craigslist. But, my friend just bought a GS3 with verizon on a 2 year contract. He is switching to AT&T with an international GS3. He offered to sell me his verizon GS3, even though he is tied to a 2-year contract on it with verizon. I assume he is not going to fulfill his contract with verizon and jump ship to AT&T. My question is, can I just put my SIM into the phone and keep it for myself, or will the phone not work because I did not transfer the ESN to my account? And finally, will verizon allow me to transfer the phone to my account even though it is tied to a 2-year contract on another account. I guess I want to know all this because he wants to sell it to me at his cost, which is the $148 he paid at Walmart, and I won't be tied to a contract extension and get a great deal on the phone. Thanks for your input.
if you already have an account with verizon, then your friend will just have to pay his early termination fee and you can buy his phone and put your SIM in it. If you do not have Verizon or a SIM card, his plan can be transferred to you
I don't think he has the intention to pay the early termination fee. He just wants to sell me the phone and leave verizon. I already have verizon, so I wondering if I can just take the phone with no issues on my end, even if he defaults on his account.

I guess he doesn't really care about it, lol. I was hoping this could work out in my favor, but it seems that it will not. I thought that I could just pop my sim in the phone and use it as my own. I guess I can't get that deal.
Not at all, but if it's in nice shape you could pay his 300 or so termination fee and still be ahead, it's an expensive phone
I appreciate everyone's input. I think I may steer away from this, to avoid any problems.
People like your friend are the reason why verizon has a 350.00 early termination fee.
All he has to do is activate another phone on his line. Like an old flip phone. The SG3 will be taken off his line. And the you can add it to yours with no probelm.
Then he has to deal with ending his contract. The phones are separate from the contracts.
Rocking T2 on the S3 (V)
so if your friend wants to cancel its gonna be $350 no matter what phone he currently has (feature or smart) there might be activation fees also when switching phone on top of that
