waterproof - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

hope we can get a waterproof case soon

bring a sandwich bag with you if you think it might rain... or if you go fishing.
i use a hefty bag, they're stronger. u can test a bag to see how water proof it is by putting water in it, closing it and turning it upside down. if its good, water won't drip out of course.

The Griffin Survivor case is water resistant. They are currently working on one for the S4. I have one for my S3 and it just plain rocks. I carry my phone around in a motorcycle saddlebag and the phone itself looks like the day I bought it and functions perfectly.

Great case, love it on my phone. And will absolutely take a month I learned first hand,I wouldn't bother ordering and just wait for local options once they arrive.

Usually when I order from China, it takes around 2 weeks for me to get in the mail. I wish manufactures would have made them earlier since all the specs were released...I guess I'll just use some kind of pouch to carry it around till I get something.

Been case and screen protector free on my GNex for almost a year, not a scratch or ding on it.
Next week when my daughter takes it though it will be in a Kraken case
I would pick one up, but I don't want to cover up that sexy back of the nexus 4
I'm probably going to put a full body screen protector and not put on a case though that one looks nice. Just got be extra careful. What would be really cool is if they made a Qi inductive case, that charges your phone, that way you never need to charge your phone.

The Nexus 4 has QI charger built into it. I believe it has a range of 40mm... So unless your case is made of metal you will be okay.

The parylene coating stuff is pretty cool. I wish there was a way to do it easier.
i wonder if you can take off the battery cover and put it back on and it still be waterproof....one of the advantages of the S4 over the other phones is the removable battery...also wondering if putting in and taking out a set of headphones would eventually wear down the coating on the headphone port....
i dont plan on submerging a phone under water (unlike all the idiots who bought the xperia z who are now having speaker problems) but would be a nice little insurance policy of types if it did happen to fall into a puddle and i were able to pick it up and dry it of quickly
pretty cool technology either way and im sure more phones in the future will have this kind of protection coming from the factory
edit: also wondering about the speaker....i know when the xperia z showed off its water proofing no one did a speaker test after it came out of the water and it seems like everyone who bought the phone submerged it in water and the speakers have been going crazy....i see in the liquipel video they test that phones screen after it comes out but thats not what im worried about i have dropped a phone in the toilet before and dried it off and the screen still works....im more worried about the sound....

If you have a phone that has a removable battery, the battery gets coated too..pretty much the entire phone gets coated.. I personally didn't test my speaker immediately after I put it in water, however I don't have any speaker issues either

I really want to get my phone protected by liquipel but there are so many mixed reviews and its tough to count on company made videos as they will always show the best side...I have dropped my phone in rain and constantly take it into the bathroom to listen to music and this has resulted in water damage (I know some of you will say "well dont take it into the bathroom idiot" but its my thing dont judge)
I just emailed liquipel to see if they have a date for the s4 and will be publishing the email here once i get it...I am still on the fence about getting it.

S-View flip cover defect?

I bought a flip cover, but it doesn't go all the way, and doesn't completely close. I removed it, and installed it again but that didn't solve it. Is it meant to be like this? I thought that it was supposed to snap magnetically and fully cover the screen
I have also installed a zagg screen protector installed, but I don't think that that should cause a problem like this. Is this a case of faulty design, or misinformed consumer? Pic included below.
I had the regular one and was not impressed. Did about the same...
Too much money for such a poor performer...
Yeah same issue here.
I am hoping the OtterBox for the S4 is going to be out within 2 weeks. If so, I'll return the S view cover for a refund and get the otterbox
The S-View cover DOES NOT magnetically close. Nor does the regular flip cover.

I didn't expect it to be magnetic, but if I lay my S4 down on a flat surface the cover should go down all the way. Mine stays open about 1/2" and doesn't fully close unless I hold it closed...

over a few weeks, it will loosen up and sit much tighter on the screen......but it still wont stay shut in the even of a fall...
I ordered this case from Amazon, but it must be coming on the slow train, because it's taking forever to arrive. I like that it has the s view option, but still protects the phone better than the official case. Hopefully it won't be a piece of junk.

Mine closes flat and did as soon as I installed it, but others I know at the same event would not stay shut.
I tried this out on my phone yesterday at Best Buy and I didn't like it at all. The fitment felt off for me. It was kinda nifty, though.

Oleophobic coating scratching on a 3 week old phone?

I bought the galaxy s4 in the beginning of May. I did not put on a screen protector, having used iPhones from the 3G to the 5 the last 4 years, I have never had any screen scratches on any of them, so I assumed the galaxy series is the same thing.
Now just 3 weeks later, the top left of my display has a bunch of small scratches and glare spots. I know this is the oleophobic coating because if I wipe it down, the scratches all disappear, and only reappear after I put fingerprints on them and such. I haven't been near any beaches and I don't abuse my phones, and with my past 5 iphones, I have never had a scratch, so what gives?
By the way, since I am out of the 14 day return period, can I get this replaced under warranty? Should I go through AT&T or Samsung? Store or online?
I DO have Assurion, and my Citi Forward Visa would have a 50 dollar deductible to pay the 200 dollar Assurion deductible, so it would cost me only 50 for an Assurion replacement, but if I can do this through a warranty exchange, it would be better.

Serious question: did you have your earlobe pierced recently? I know earrings and piercings wear off the coating when you hold the phone to your ear.
If you do not want to bother with exchanging, maybe try cleaning it well and affixing a screen protector?
Have no thoughts on the return/exchange process (but bumping your msg up.

I could be wrong but as far as I've always understood oleophobic coatings all they do is resist fingerprints and has nothing to do with resisting scratches.. In fact its very easy to get very light superficial scratches in the coating itself and not the glass.. Again I could be wrong...
You can always call AT&T or Samsung and ask about if it could be a warranty issue... But I'm pretty sure they're going to tell you its normal wear and tear from everyday use

Ive had oleophobic coated screens in the past and once they started getting like that ive taken acetone or ensolv if you know what it is to it. Wiped it all around and it was perfect. It doesnt do anything to the glass but be careful about the phone itself, ensolv kind of melts plastic if you let it sit too long. My advice is to tape off the screen and try it out

Oleophobic coating helps resist scratches too believe it or not. The coating's best feature in my opinion is making the screen smooth to glide on and side benefit of that is resisting smudges. But I always use screen protectors so I don't get to experience it much. The good screen protectors with Oleophobic on them are on the pricey side.

So your carelessness is AT&T's fault?
To you and the OP, you both claim to be very careful with your phone but have 'lots of scratches' seems to me you were not that careful. I had my note 2 fir a month, with the flip cover, not a scratch. It fell on a floor face down and the cover opened from my lap while sitting in a chair, a few small scratches occured. Guess what, my fault. I bought a screen protector (only one I could find locally was the one that came with an otterbox commuter case). Seems like you should accept responsibility for what happens to your phone after you take it home.

That's so perfect. I don't want it to happen to my phone just to prove, but you can attest to durability of HTC One.
Yes, this phone is alot tougher than it looks (and it looks pretty tough) lol. I dropped mine on asphalt from about six feet about an hour after buying it and it landed facedown. No case, no screen protector. No scratches and no dings in the metal. HTC would never warranty their screen for six months unless they were damn sure it wasn't going to break easily. Especially since they are in financial hardship already. It's a big risk. Thankfully, this phone is tough as nails. Not like the S4. I broke three s4 screens in less than a year.
Dropped mine within 24 hours of purchase when it slipped out of my gym shorts exiting the car. Had one minor scuff on the top but a nice small scratch on the back. i was so mad, went and bought a case for it asap.
Consider yourself lucky.

Perfectly. It wasn't a big drop, just shows how easily the back can be scuffed.
Dropped mine at the gym too and wasn't so lucky. Glass shattered. My new case was sitting on my porch for me when I got home so I was about 30 min from getting it when it fell. Called HTC and they sent me a new phone overnight. I'm so lucky they have the 6 month glass warranty. I didn't even consider it when buying the phone, but now I'll buy HTC every time if they keep this warranty going.

Did the exact same thing but getting into the car from the gym - this is one slippery phone. It bounced a few times on the pavement which is not smooth. The left corners are both scuffed up but the screen does not have a scratch on it. No case on it at the time - I only use the case while biking as I have broke too many phones on the MTB.
I was riding my bike over a bridge and heard a *thud* behind me, felt my pocket and phone was gone, looked back and there it was sitting face-down on the bridge lol. Went and picked it up and not a scratch!! Man I love this thing.

Well, it happened to me today. Girlfriend had the phone and dropped it getting out of the car. Not as fortunate as you guys because the screen is now cracked . Took my otter box case off this morning too...
