I just noticed that wacom has released bamboo paper on android however it says the app isn't available for this device. Which is sort of strange I thought as I was under the impression that the s-pen and gnotes screen was developed with the help of wacom? Anyway was wondering if anyone had it and if they had it working on the device?

hello,
Is there anything out there for android tablets that does what the apple smart cover does for the iPad? Locking and unlocking the tablet when closing and opening the cover.
thanks!
The ipad's smart cover uses magnets to detect when it is closed. For that function on an android tablet, the manufacturer would have to put that technology into it. The only other hardware that would work is a proximity sensor. The problem would be that when you put your finger or anything else over the sensor on accident, it would trigger the screen lock. Currently, I don't know of any application that uses the proximity for that purpose.

michaelnv710 is right you cannot buy an android tablet case that will provide you with the same functionality, but you can use a dedicated application. I would suggest you take a look at CaseSensor

Sorted thanks! CaseSensor does what I wanted and works really well on my Galaxy Tab 10.1
I don't care about the on off functionality, I'd just like to find one for my acer Iconia that's physically similar like the origami one for the asus or the one that Apple bullied samsung into pulling. Just for screen protection without the bulk of the folio cases which are annoying when I'm using it as a reader. I only use it at home. You'd think they'd be pouring out of China by now.
Dear developers,
This is my first post in xda and I apologize in advance if I posted this question in the wrong place.
I searched a lot in the internet to find a way to allow me to use the digitizer stylus (the same one available in Galaxy Note) on the screen of my galaxy tab 7 plus, but unfortunately with no luck.
The digitizer stylus is available in the market as a replacement of lost or damaged Galaxy Note stylus. Therefore, the stylus is not an issue. I really believe that the stylus should work on any capacitive touch screen of any android tablet if we succeed in extracting the Wacom driver, or software, from a Galaxy Note and install it to the tab.
I searched in Wacom website, but found drivers for windows and Mac only, nothing for android.
I also tried to locate the Wacom in Galaxy Note, with no success :'(
I hope anyone tried such thing and looking for someone to share the experience.
Thanks!

If the Galaxy Note is anything like the conventional Wacom tablets, the hardware is primarily in the phone/tablet itself and not in the pen. If this is the case, your idea will not work.
You can, however, buy many styluses (styli?) that support capacitive touchscreens.
This is actual Wacom technology
Hello, you cannot use the S-Pen on non-Wacom screens because the stylus is not capacitive, but electromagnetic.
Using your finger, try pressing an UI element (like a widget, or a ListView item) so that you successfully select it. While the item is selected, slowly move the stylus down towards the screen. When it will be 1 cm away (or less) from the screen, the item you selected with your finger will get unselected. It is because the electromagnetic stylus has priority over your (“capacitive”) finger.
The fact that the stylus priority thing occurs even though the screen is not pressed with it, is a proof that the usual Wacom electromagnetic magic is in use in the Note.
I have been going in circles trying to find a compatible pen for my Note 8. Many that claim compatibility have an offset when in use. Pens that I have tried:
Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel CS300UK from Best Buy - 2mm offset & reported by many.
On order Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel CS300UK2 - said to be compatible.
Samsung S Pen and Holder Kit. <2mm offset.
The supplied pen & a replacement Galaxy Note 8 stylus work fine with no offset.
There is a good thread at xda regarding the same issues with the Galaxy Note 10.1. I am not sure if the information pertaining to the Note 10.1 can be applied to the Note 8.
BTW The offset is present with the 4 app that I have tried.
It would be nice to see a chart of compatible pens, listing various tablets & the cross platform compatibility of the pens. Many products are listed as "compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note", but there appears to be some variance between the Galaxy Note products related to this offset. Otherwise they work fine.
Thanks,
kev
I have just received a chinese replica I ordered a few days ago.
I wanted to have a replacement Spen which could fit the built-in hole, and of course It does fit. In fact is basically the same stylus without branding. The only issue with this Spen is the offset you mentioned above. All in all, mine doesn't have such a big offset, may be less than 1mm. The gap is so small that is very difficult to measure. I don´t regret the purchase, beside the fact that It only cost 6,19$.
I have attached some photos of the replica.

I got the same non-branded pens & they too suffered with too much offset for me. They also had a wobbly tip. I ended up with a Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel. Had to order it from Wacom directly to get the version that works with the Note 8. The model number is CS300UK2. It must have the "2" to work with the Note 8. The ones at Best Buy & most other retailers are CS300UK. The "K" is for black, so the white one would be CS300UW2.
Cheers,

I also bought a Chinese duplicate. However, my experience with it is not as great.
It is not a perfect fit into the slot. You hage to apply alot more pressure than you would for the Official pen to get it to fit fully snuggly.
It has also broke for me after about a month and is now completely unusable.
Am considering just getting a the Wacom Feel for Note devices. Please let me know how you are finding it!

The Feel works well for me. As I mentioned, I had to get the right one. It feels better in the hand than the stock stylus & the tip (soft) is very smooth on the screen without feeling too slippery. Haven't tried the hard replacement supplied.

Has anyone tried this on their 8.4? I was thinking I would wait for Samsung to come out with one for the 8.4 like they have for the 10.5. But I came acrross this one on Amazon and thought I might actually like this one better...especially since it's a LOT cheaper than the Samsung accessory.

I guess if you don't mind your 400 tablets screen beeing ground against a 30 dollar piece of plastic. ..
There is actually an genuine Samsung keyboard for the 8.4. Here it is
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Ori...=UTF8&qid=1412020805&sr=8-3&keywords=EJ-CT700
Only thing is that the bronze version....which is the one I want, has both English AND Korean characters on the keys. Strangely it seems that the white version only has English. What's happening there i wonder? Also the bronze version is actually shipped from Korea.

Not too sure how it works. I bought the FINTIE SMARTSHELL CASE FOR SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB S 8.4 - NAVY (one without the keyboard) http://www.fintie.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=667_801_804&product_id=5140 online. Excellent quality product but the magnets on the cover interferes with the device. It puts the device to sleep randomly and often I notice interference bands on the screen.
Geoux did a good review post here and confirms the same issue .. seems we may have to stick with the original book cover.

The magnetic features did not seem to be evident here.
I just got one of these keyboards througfh my local Verizon store. I didn't know what I'd get, but it was clearly labelled Finte and there is no Verizon branding on it. The Keyboard is somewhat small, but usable. I'm typing this post as my initial run with the keyboard. I have above average size hands and was expecting more difficulty than I'm having. I'm not a great typist and have issues of some degree with any keyboard. The keys are responsive and provide a good tactile response. As with every keyboard I use, I would love to be able to disable the CAPS LOCK. Otherthan that, this is a pretty nice small keyboard.
When I first tried this at home, I simply folded down the lid of my laptop, which is also my desktop. The Finte attached firmly to the laptop, and refused to do anything. So I took it off the laptop, put it off to the side and just used the wooden desk top. The Finte has no issues, either here, or on any neutral non magnetic surface.
Great case and keyboard for $40.00.
Just curious if anyone has tried this out yet? My DirectStylus 2 works if enough (light) pressure is applied to the screen and goes beyond what I had assumed. Seeing as this is a capacitive touchscreen like most modern devices I'd like to know if anyone else have had luck with the mentioned tools in the thread title. A Wacom Pen should suffice as well.
I used SketchBook for my test which is free app for basic tasks in case anyone feels like trying out. The key seems to be a thin digitizer as my Moto X 2014 barely goes by simple strokes or even taps (thicker digitizer/glass = more pressure needed).
im not 100% but you will find that a s pen type device would not work you need sensor behind the screen for that like the note series, you would need a stylus which simulates the static electricity inside people for the stylus to work which I believe there are some clunky types available but im sure someone will be able to clarify this for you
