Should I buy a nexus 4 with no warranty in my country? - General Questions and Answers

Hi, all. I come from taiwan. N4 is not on the local market. I have ever tried my friends N4, and I cant wait to own one. The price is amazing in US compare to here which with the same hardware. Its almost half-price with tax. Is it worth to own one?

Well it is a great deal, but make sure it's real one. There are many fakes around.
Ask for a seller warranty at least (like for a week min. So that if you find it to be a mockup you could return it to them )

LIFE! MAKE IT WORTH LIVING!

Anyway you would root it and unlock it. Right. So the warranty would be void anyway. But still just make sure it's not fake

Buying a new smartphone

Hello everyone,
Can you offer me a good phone for the price of 450 USD? I've watched many reviews and the phones that caught my attention were Sony Xperia P, HTC One S...I'm also wondering about Xperia Arc S (which is cheaper), but you don't buy a new phone every month so I prefer something newer. So...I'm waiting for your advices and thanks in advance.
i would go with tge htc thats my opinion
You have a budget of $450? Go for the unlocked Gnex for $350, it has a big dev community and will get updates the fastest. In addition, JB with project butter has had outstanding results, similar in speed to how WP7 runs so smooth on single core 1ghz snapdragons.
if you don't mind the 5mp camera and on screen buttons, I say definitely get it

The one s is the better of the two,but you should consider other options too.

Yes, buy the HTC One S... you have a longer time fun with this device! And a really great support in this forum.
Before buying a new phone search for this:
1. Compatible with a stable version or Nightly version of CM9-10 or any other supported rom. (That means that is a device it’s currently developed.)
2. Listen what the device users say in the forums. (They have one they know their behavior problems)
3. Search for a recovery or a backup for the device OS. (You will be in guarantee so find a solution for any problem can succeed)
4. Look if the OS version is upper than 4.0 or recent 4.1.X (Gingerbread it's OK but it's going old each day, Jelly Bean seems a stable version)
5. Look the specs and the price. (Analyze the price with the specs it have)
Hope it was useful
Aahh, it's a tough decision. The One S has the more powerful CPU and the bigger screen, but I've read that the screen of the Xperia P is better (higher pixel density, plus that White Magic technology), the One S also lacks NFC (yeah, you can't do much with it now, but maybe in 2-3 years it will be useful). Tell me the pros and cons of the two.
Sorry for the stupid question but what's Gnex? Is it Galaxy Nexus and if it is, then where do I get it for $350 ?

Galaxy nexus is an international GSM phone,if you have at least EDGE network (2G) it will work.
It is also very beautiful, and a Google Device,so you know you're in safe hands.

Of the aforementioned I like tha Galaxy Nexus most, but the problem is that it's not available in my country (Bulgaria) through Google Play. I should find a way to buy it.

Try a Samsung Shop as opposed to your network carrier. That way you're sure it's the sim unlocked international version.

Shipping is expensive for tech, but you could have them lie about the value on the forms.
My advice is to exhaust all local options first, if shipping proves cheaper, then go for it.

Need help choosing a phone , please have a look!

Hi Guys,
Need Help choosing a phone , these are the options i have as of now ( price range is similar for me for all the mentioned phones so its not the deciding factor here)
- Xperia S / SL
- Xperia ION
- Samsung galaxy Nexus
- HTC ONE S
- Lumia 820
So these are the main aspects I'm considering between them:
- Better Screen
- Better Performance
- Less known Bugs/Issues
- Customization (flashing roms , hack support etc. )
- Battery Life
Any suggestions will greatly help or just vote in the poll. I'am going to place my trust completely on xda and buy whichever you guys suggest . I'm personally leaning towards the ION for the looks and screen size but i've heard its got some bugs on unlocking bootloader.
Thanks,
Rishi

So... Basically you're looking for the best device for your money xD haha. I'd rather go for the Note 2 (which I have) and the Galaxy S3. I think Samsung is hitting home runs on their devices lately. I have no idea what the cost of those devices are. Why don't you fill us in and say how much you're willing to pay and if it's going to be unlocked or on contract?

Heh heh , well yup you could say that :fingers-crossed: . here is the price i'm paying for them, I'm from India and getting them unlocked from ebay :
- Xperia S / SL ( Rs 20k ~ 400 US $ )
- Xperia ION ( Rs 22k ~ 430 US $)
- Samsung galaxy Nexus ( Rs 23k ~ 450 $)
- HTC ONE S ( Rs 21-22k ~ 410$-430 US $)
- Lumia 820 ( Rs 18k ~ 350-360 US $)
Special Mention Galaxy S2 - (Rs 21k ~ 410$-430 US $)
Note 2 costs me Rs 36k ( ~ 700$!) and galaxy S3 Rs 31k (~620 $) . I have to get them from ebay as we don't get good phones on contracts here (we are subsided by really cheap call rates instead) and if i get it from a superstore / shop is costs me around 50$ more on each phone.

Wait a minute! One S over nexus 4? Are you out of your mind? I mean just look at the specs and it would make the nexus way better. And you get direct updates from google and great development support. Nothing goes over a nexus in my opinion.

I have $50 budget for a no-contract phone.

Looking for something cheap and moddable.
You could look into grabbing yourself a used Xperia X10, or maybe a Motorola Droid 1.

Go to walmart. They have cheap no contract phones. Android phones are over 50$ though.
Please click thanks if I helped.

Most of the the cheap no contract phones will have little to no developer support. You will probably be able to root it, but don't expect any ROMs. Alternatively you could get an older phone for $50 that was once more popular and had developer support. As mentioned above, the Droid 1 comes to mind, they are all over ebay for less than $50 and there are tons of ROMs out there for it.
man i bought a fusion 2 from at&t and i still have no support on this
Why dont you look on ebay iv seen xperia x10s and x8s go cheap on there or save up abit more and get a cheap galaxy s2 .
Click thanx if i helped you

If you're very lucky, you might be able to find a Nexus One at around that price - a fixer-upper for that, sure, though the good condition ones seem to be going for more like $75+.
The S2 is still a good phone, but will also likely go over budget as well - there are some good "fixer-upper" deals, again, on eBay - phones that need a new screen but are otherwise okay (just check and make sure that model can have just glass replaced since a digitizer would be expensive).
What are you looking for ? What kind of performance do you expect ?
I've seen Samsung Captivate's on eBay go for less than $50 but they weren't in the best condition. You get what you pay for. Although, I recently scored. I bought an S2 for $95 that was soft bricked and I was able to pull it out.

Manufacturer with best dev support???

I am looking to purchase a new phone and I am free to pick att and verizom. I have two questions I was hoping to get feedback from the community on.
1. What manufacturer has the best dev support. (Ease of rooting/unlocking, releasing timely source code and drivers)
2. What carrier has the best dev support. (Ease of rooting/unlocking, releasing timely updates)
Thanks in advance.
Takeup samsung and nothing else,it has best dev support....
Others are also there , but i prefer samsung...
I would suggest you get nexus devices as you don't have any restrictions from any of the OEMs or carriers ( gsm version).
And Samsung has been losing its dev community by its insane acts recently. ( non open source nature of exynos, blah blah)
Sony is picking up good momentum. But still I would suggest you get a nexus device.

[Q] Brand new note 2012 or refurbished 2014?

Hi,
So after a really long search through every single tablet on the world its only this last choice left to make.
Brand new sealed box Galaxy Note 2012 version (16GB)
vs
refurbished Galaxy Note 2014 (16GB) + extra 50$ more expensive (400 instead of 350).
I'm not willing the pay for the full price of the 2014, the question is, is it worth to get the newer but in refurbished condition?
The only big differences I see between those two are the better screen and the new software.. everything else looks pretty the same..
What do you say?
I'd like to hear your opinion as an owner please,
Thanks,
Jordan.
As an owner of the 2012 version, I am waiting for a good deal to sell mine now so that I can get the 2014. Samsung has a bad rap when it comes to updating their pricier android devices, and upgrading hardware in order to secure the validity of the device is one of the only options left for the 2012.
I'm not counting on them releasing the rumored 4.4,2 update for the n80xx line at all.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk
If I were you, I'll never touch refurbished stuffs.
But still the choice is yours.
May be 1 other alternatives is just wait until the 2014 edition price drops
I don't have an answer for you but i can tell you I wouldn't get too hung up on which version of android it has. I am constantly updating my phone with newest ROMs and in my experience the difference between jellybean and kit kat or even ICS aren't very noticeable. I just bought a new 2012 version and so far it seems fine to me. I didn't even look at the new one though because i want going to spend over 350.
FYI, in case you didn't discover this, amazon has white ones for 350 and Best buy has gray ones for 350. Not sure if BB has free shipping though.
Thank you all for replying,
That was kinda what I was thinking,
Another question,
Are the ROMs available, still active? do they still updating their self? like atleast once a month?
I'm not an addicted user who changes ROM every week, but I know that atleast for the beggining I would wanna have the option to play with it alil,
Whats the latest official ROM samsung has provided to the device and whats the latest there is out there on the ROM list (ones with touchwiz)?
Thanks again.
There isn't a huge community of users for either tablet as its rather expensive. But even the 2012 edition is one of the most powerful tablets on the market today.
Samsung doesn't do the best at releasing updates but they have promised we will see 4.4.2 on the 2012 edition this year. Tho to be fair the amount of difference I expect it to make is near zero. The only functionality the tablet is missing is wireless display options. The only thing I wish I could change is running touch wiz.
Biggest reason I can see to go with the 2014 is the regular charger. The 2012 has a proprietary connection that isn't easy to find replacements for.
Sent from my GT-I9505G using xda app-developers app
So........ what did you decide?
I have both versions and can honestly say that apart from my 2014 having the air command feature there is no real benefits from it. There are not many customs roms out for either of them and what there is don't offer anything better than stock imo.

Samsung Galaxy 2012 (GT-N8000) no doubt!
When you wanna get best tablet by my opinion buy this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...UTF8&qid=1397148945&sr=8-5&keywords=note+10.1 or whenever you want. When do you don't need calling functions get 2012 GT-N8013 it's cheaper version of Samsung Galaxy GT-N8000. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is still too expensive. And 2012 have better support, upcoming KitKat 4.4.2 and a lot of custom roms!
But it's only my opinion... Everything is on you! :highfive:
I picked up this one a few days ago, and so far its been great, no issues. To me it was a pretty good deal.
