[Q] HTC Desire - General Questions and Answers

My HTC Desire stopped working for the third time in 2 years but HTC wont repair it. It was intermittent at first, sometimes it booted, sometimes it didn't. I went to do a factory reset using the power and volume buttons and MAY have accidently selected the wrong option thereby possibly bricking it, I'm not sure.
Anyway I bought a new battery to see if that was the problem but it made no difference.
Is there any way around a "bricked" phone please?

[Q] Stuck on HTC boot logo

Help guys, I just randomly restarted my TITAN to brag about my startup speed (she has a GS2), luckily she went in to get some water. I had updated it with the most recent HTC update two days ago, no problems there. Was developer unlocked without any hacking. I've tried re-rebooting it. It's not booting to recovery with the camera button down too. Theres an option to factory reset if I hold down the volume buttons on boot, but I really want that to be my last option, if it even works at all. Please tell me theres something I can do about this ... my heart is breaking!
try pulling the battery out and then restarting?
Moved to Q&A
Eh ... I did that, heck, i've even let the battery run out too. Plugged to my computer and it shows the charging icon. After a bit, it reboots (expectedly) and gets stuck at th logo all over again. I'm at my wits end. I really don't want to reset it; whether its all my precious data thats preventing me from doing it - or the fact that if it still doesn't work afterwards i'm totally screwed, I don't know.
//Sorry for posting in the wrong forum
Phew. So after about 6 hours of random button holding, battery pulling and facepalming, I decided to factory reset the phone. Funny thing is, as I rebooted and held the volume buttons, the download mode screen popped up! Luckily, since I had just updated the phone about two days ago, not only do I have a restore point, but its a recent one too! So glad.
Now the question, was it the update that caused this problem? I noticed that the OS version remained at 7720 after the update, didn't know what the BL/radio version were previously. Any TITAN owners care to chime in?
I had this exact problem with my Titan just a few weeks ago. I didn't have a restore point unfortunately. But had to go through the whole reset process

Sensation screen not responding

Hi all,
I've had my HTC sensation for about 9 months. I've flashed the phone twice with HD revolution roms. The last flash was conducted about a month ago and is currently running version 3.6.1. Around 2 days ago the phones screen, short cut keys below the screen, power button and volume stopped responding. Upon rebooting the phone the screen and all buttons will respond perfectly normal however. It is only when you turn the screen off or it goes into sleep state automatically after the reboot the screen, shortcut keys, power and volume buttons stop responding again when powered back on. After this the phone needs to have the battery taken out and rebooted before anything can be used again. In this state the phone is completely useless, only being able to be used once the phone has been rebooted and the screen must be prevented from going into a sleep state.
The last form of any sort of software update I can remember before the problem began occuring was updating facebook
I have not tried super wiping and reflashing a new rom yet.
If anyone could suggest something it's highly appreciated.
Regards,
Samuel
I've had the phone quoted by a repairer saying the touch screen needs to be replaced but I don't see how this can be so.
It works perfectly fine on initial boot. It also doesn't explain why all the other buttons cease to work.
Hi Samuel,
by the sound of it I'd say your touchscreen is working fine, I think its more likely that your Android OS has got screwed up a bit at some point. If it was mine I'd do a nandroid backup of your currunt OS, and then superwipe and reflash a fresh installation of ARHD on it. If that doesnt work you can always go back to the nandroid backup you make.
Probably be worth waiting to see what some other XDA members think though.
Good luck with it.
You might check your SD-card for errors.

[Q] One X button not turning screen on

Hi,
I have an AT&T One X and it's having this problem of seeming to shut itself off or having the screen not turn on by using the button, but the notification light flashes. When it happens, I can only get it back by a hard reset. Sometimes, when it's happens, the screen freezes while using it and it'll restart. No error shows after restart. I am on 1.85 and I have never rooted it. It's stock and I don't use a case. The phone is not warm or anything when it happens and it sometimes goes 24 hours before it occurs, sometimes not.
I have done a complete factory restore and it still is happening.
I can't use a phone that will just stop working at random.
Does anyone have any ideas? I have contacted HTC and so far the things they've suggested, I've already done (soft reset, hard reset etc)
Thanks!
Try using the stock ruu.. See if that fixes it and if your within your 30 days exchange it

Thanks. What is a stock ruu? Sorry, I'm new to android. I bought it on eBay (it was new, unopened), so I can't return. I had the software update shortly after getting the phone, from 1.73 to 1.85. I'll have to work through HTC service if it's defective.

post any doubts or issues in q&a thread in this forum... and dont use any software or downloads from other htc one x (international) forum.. thy have different chipset.
edit : wait is ur power button gone bad? or u r screen goes off randomly and u cant use power button to get it back on?.. as long as it doesnt reboot randomly .. i think u should try above guide
and power button needs a short press.. are u pressing it far too long? its suppose to restart if u keep power button pressed for 10 sec
Thanks. Ok, I might try that rooting, but I wish the software was easily reinstalled if there are update issues.
Power button is Ok. It randomly won't turn the display on, it seems something has crashed software wise. Sometimes, it will freeze, as in turning it back on with the button, and then it freezes when pulling the unlock ring, or scrolling to a widget. Then it restarts, and it is Ok for a bit after restarting.
But on more than a few occasions, I've pulled the phone out to check something or show someone something, and the button won't turn the screen on, or it's shut itself off. Then I do a hard reset and it come to life and seems to work fine for a while.
I'm guessing now this is not a common problem.

battery voltage low

Hi:
I have a HTC sensation 4G. I really like the phone. However, about 3-4 months ago, my phone suddenly switched off. When I restarted my phone, it got stuck on the HTC logo and wouldn't go further and switch off. It would start again, show the white screen with the HTC logo and switch on again. It wouldn't go any further and kept doing so in a loop. I thought there could be 2 possible reasons for the same: 1.) software issue or 2.) Hardware issue. I was pretty sure it was not a software issue as I had not made any changes in the software. I took it to a HTC repair center. The repair charges they were asking were freakingly high (300$!!). I didn't get it repaired from them. However, they gave me the exact reason of the problem. They said that it was a hardware issue and often happens with the phones when battery of the phone is removed while the phone is running. If this is done multiple times, such an issue can arise. I had done it multiple times before the phone had stopped working. I then got the phone repaired from another shop paying a third of the price. He didn't give any guarantee if the phone works. But the phone started working after the repair.
Very recently though, I was using my camera and as soon as the flash came on, the flash light got stuck. The phone was, however, working. But I couldn't get the flash to switch off. So I thought of restarting my phone. The phone switched off and when it turned on, it had the same problem. It is stuck in a loop on the HTC logo screen. I think this could be a software problem. What can i do to repair it?
Another thing I want to mention is that I am unable to go even in the recovery. When I try to go in to the recovery, it switches off and shows the HTC screen again. On one occasion when I tried to go into recovery from the boot screen, it showed a message that the battery voltage is low, please change the battery immediately. So i thought it is a battery problem and I looked up on the internet to find a solution. Somewhere I read that sometimes the gold plated contact points on the battery get scratched and corrosion happens. One solution was to clean the corrosion and try again. I did but didn't work. Also, when I try to charge the phone (because the battery voltage is low), even if the phone is switched off, its starts up again automatically without pressing the power button. Then it keeps going in the loop.
I don't know what the problem exactly is. Do i need to change the battery? I am running official HTC ICS ROM. Please help me with a solution.
It will be of great help. Thank you!!

[Q] HOX (evita) fried hardware?

Hey guys,
I am currently on my second HTC One X (evita) and have been running CM10.1.3.
Phone has been working great, but last time I was about to initiate Lag Fix and the phone froze, so I tried to do a soft reset.
When I tried this the phone just shut off and that was the last breath of life apparently. I tried plugging it in over night, plugging it into the PC, booting into bootloader/recovery, nothing. Even when I plug it in to the outlet, the LED wouldn't even show red/green/yellow.
One thing I noticed when I was using the phone maybe an hour or two prior to that was that it was getting really hot.
Could it be that there was something that fried on the inside of the phone? Anyone experience this with the HOX?
I was planning on taking it to a cell phone repair shop and see if they could figure it out. I currently have another bricked HOX that I was thinking on having them use the hardware in that phone into my most recent one.
Any advice?
Thanks guys...

It's possibly the Lagfix app that's done it, the fstrim component in that app caused a few bricks a few months ago. Sounds like you'll need a jtag repair.
