[Q] Samsung Galaxy Xcover GT-S5690 stuck at Samsung screen - General Questions and Answers

hi
As the title says my phone doesn't boot past Samsung logo, recovery and download mode doesn't work .
Also when connected to a computer gets recognized as "TAVOR OBM" and doesn't find any driver.
My question is:
How do I repair it?

First question:
What did you do to brick it?
By just using Google TAVOR OBM, I found a possible solution. But because it is in a german forum, I will tell you here (but I guess Google Translate could do that, too):
Your only hope is getting into dowload mode with a USB Jig. There are many tutorials on this. You need a 301 kOhm resistor between pin 4 and 5 of the USB. With a bit luck (some forum guy reports it works), you will be able to flash a new firmware with Odin.
Last solution, if everything fails:
If the Jig does not work, send your phone to Samsung and tell them it does not boot. Apparently, they will replace it.

I bought the cellphone from a guy online, what he said was that he tried to root it to play hacked games.
How do I make this JIG?

here you go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604707 or if you wanna buy one http://usbjig.com/ or search one on amazon

I did a jig 3x 100k and 1 1k resistor and sold it to the 4 and 5 pin on the micro usb.
but nothing happened and
now my phone won't even turn on to the samsung logo screen
what are my other options?

How exactly did you proceed?
I have never done this by myself, but from what I know, you have to
switch it off
pull out the battery
wait 5 minutes
put it back in
plug in the Jig
and it should turn on by itself. So do not press the power button.

[Q] possibily bricked - bootloader broken

Hy to all,
my Nexus S one day decide to not power on at all!
SYMPTOMS:
- black screen
- power button doesn't do anything (also phone not vibrate)
- no button combination boots to download mode
- no charghing indication when connected to charger or USB
- no detection in the computer when connected to the USB
After some days without battery, the problem persists:
NEW SYMPTOMS:
- when plugged on computer usb port, Windows 7 start to find Sec S5pc110 Test B/D driver
In a formum of Bada (I now is not my phone) Samsung support tells that can be the bootloader broken!!
Someone can help me to solve my problem!
Thenks in advance, and sorry for my bad english
PS: my problem is similar to the one described in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882189
Well, did you do anything to it before this started? Anything like flash some new rom, or the OTA or similar?
There was another dude a few days ago who reported his phone was bricked and described similar symptoms to yours, but it turned out his issue was just a totally discharged battery that wouldn't start taking a charge until he forced it with some homemade 9-volt battery thing. You might try a different battery if you can obtain one.
The only other thing, besides warranty repair, might be to get the 301k resistor jig and use Odin to flash a new bootloader image to the phone, per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947950
Mate,
have you had any progress in unbricking your phone. I too am in the sam state with my Nexus S... unfortunately I can get this phone back to USA & when I spoke to the Samsung helpline the crooks simply refused to help since the instrument is outside of USA.
I'm in the same situation - did you get anywhere with yours ?

[SOLVED] Yet another phone bricked...

I know this had been posted all over this forum but I can't for the love of me find a way solve this. By phone won't boot, nothing comes up in the screen everything is black. This happened while trying to do the 3 button fix.
This is what I have tried so far:
All the possible combinations of buttons
Trying to get it to connect with adb on 3 different computers
Tried to see if the usb connection was read by the linux kernel
And nothing...
At this point the only thing I haven't tried is the Jig method that I will try tomorrow. Aside from this is there anything else before having to go to ATT and beg for a new one?
Thanks in advance
Additional Info:
I was running Serendipity 5.10 with the kernel included
Some people have had success getting back into download mode by removing the battery for 30 seconds to a minute then plugging in the USB cable, holding the volume buttons and (continuing to hold the buttons) inserting the battery.

I had the same experience last week. Took several tries, but I finally got back in and flashed a new ROM onto it.
The three button fix requires you to flash a new sbl, right? Chances are pretty high that you permanently bricked your phone and a jig won't do you any good. If the jig doesn't work (and I don't expect it to), you have one of two choices: Buy a riff box and revive your phone by taking out the motherboard and connecting it to the riff box, or mail it back to Samsung and have them do it for you.
Note that using the riff box will definitely void your warranty and Samsung will be able to tell that you took it apart in the event that you eventually send it back to them. Custom roms and bricking supposedly void your warranty, but if you're clever enough over the phone, they'll be none the wiser. Especially in your situation, where the phone doesn't do anything when the power button is pressed.
Thanks to all for your help and will update this thread on what happens for future reference. The jig did not work so the next step is to go beg at an AT&T store for a new phone... Here goes nothing.

Just tell them the official 2.2 update did it. "My phone turned off by itself while I was trying to do the update through kies".
Also, if you deal with Samsung directly, they'll mail you back the same phone, so if you got one of the lucky ones with a functioning GPS, you might want to hang on to it by dealing with Samsung instead of ATT.
I took out the SIM, and battery for more than 30 seconds, enter recovery using 3 button mode, open ODIN, attach cable and flash to Eclair...worked fine. Installed SIM after everything worked.
As modest_android pointed out nothing at this point works. I managed to get a hold of AT&T yesterday and they'll send me a new phone overnight.
Thanks to everyone for their help.

[Q] Galaxy S Bricked-HELP!

Hi guys
First post, so please be nice
I recently received a galaxy s on the virgin 29 cap. Today I decided to upgrade to froyo 2.2.1 via odin, it worked flawlessly. Next I installed hardcore kernel with lag fix enabled. After that I decided to install Darkys custom Rom. Due to not removing the lag fix it started looping on the samsung galaxy S logo. I decided to restore it to factory settings via flashing, however halfway through the flash Odin displayed FAIL, so i disconnected my USB cable. Now whenever I turn it on the phone gets stuck on the samsung logo. If i plug in the charger/usb cable an empty battery sign comes up with a non-spinning disk.
The worst part is I cannot access the download mode or recovery mode.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Note:Im sorry if there are other threads but I am really distressed.
Give this a shot: (from this link)
Unplug your Device
Pull out the SIM, External SD Card, and Battery
Plug in the mini-USB Cable back into your phone.
While holding down BOTH Up/Down Volume Buttons re-insert the battery.
If you get the "grey battery charging" screen. Then you will need to try and re-attempt it as it didn't work. You should get the download screen and be ready to go back to stock.
Just so you know, your question really belongs here, in the Captivate Q&A section. There's lots more in all the stickies within that subforum you should study
If that doesn't work, you may need a jig.
Thanks
Unfortunately your methods did not work. I am considering making/buying a jig however i am unsure whether or not it will work- My phone will not turn on unless plugged into the charger/computer. When I plug it in an empty battery icon appears with a non-rotational disk.

Oh, dear, that does sound like a brick. Josh from Mobiltech may be able to help you. He also sells jigs, if you're not technically apt (like me )
I have purchased a jig, hopefully it works! Thanks for all your help.

Good luck with it!

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy SGH-T989

I'm a new member so please dont take it out on me for posting in the general discussion board. I was trying to upgrade my Gingerbread firmware into the new ICS firmware. I downloaded Samsung Kies and the phone couldnt connect for 10+ minutes. It finally connected and started upgrading, in the middle of it all, I lost connection and it said to turn off my phone and re connect the usb. I did that and the phone was stuck on "firmware has encountered an issue". After googling for hours I finally found a thread on here stating Odin could flash/boot the phone into the old condition. I proceeded to do that and then the connection stopped in the middle of that. My phone went blank and will not turn on. I bought a USB jig and had it shipped overnight for $30+ from Amazon and it doesnt work. Is there any other option I have other than slamming the phone into the ground or going to tmobile to purchase another pricey phone? I appreciate any feedback I am beginning to hit depression stage now hahaha.
Can't be that depressed with all those hahaha's
use Odin to flash the standard Samsung ROM which you'll need to download, put the phone into download mode
(hold power + home + vol DOWN)
It also sounds like you have a crappy USB connection. Either get another cable or don't move the phone when its doing these important changes.
Then you'll need to root it again (or leave it stock if you wish) you could then download and flash a rooted ROM

the hahaha's are a coverup. The phone will not go into recovery/download mode for anything. Ive tried holding the home+vol up/down+power and nothing happens. Im not able to do ANYTHING. It stays off and thats it. I ordered a new micro usb connection but im afraid that its too late for the phone. If I could get it to turn on I would know where to go from there with rooting but it wont even turn on.

Hard Brick - How did it happen?

I've been messing with phones, game consoles, etc for years so i'm not new to the modding world and have never ran into an issue...I've done android phones and tablets before without issue but looks like i hard bricked the phone.
Last night i was trying to root my USA samsung galaxy s3 i535 from verizon ... it was running 4.1.1 following this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
I was in odin and flashed this file to it VRALEC Bootchain... the screen went black on the phone and it just froze up odin and the phone never came back.
The only thing i can think of (if this was the correct file) was that it was some kind of physical issue between the laptop and phone via the usb cable? I was using win 8 but had the odin app running in xp sp3 compatability mode as an admin?
From what i've read i'm pretty much screwed except maybe paying for a jtag service... might just wait fo the S4 though.
Thanks...i did leave it plugged in over night, but it was the same usb cable i'll let it sit overnight with a different usb cable when i get home.
Like cvm said, if you get download mode then you're okay. But even if you can't seems how you said you have a background in modifying things, you can make or order what is called a USB jig to force the phone into download mode. Just google it and you'll find the post. I use the same procedure for rooting my phone and never had a problem. The only thing that comes to mind is are you sure you loaded the file into the PDA section of Odin? Because if you used any other sections that is what caused the problem.

I've left it charging for about 12 hours and still nothing, won't respond at all no lights, donwload mode, nothing...
I knew to choose the pda option and am 99% sure i did, but sometimes in my arogance I move a little to fast for my own good so anything is possible...
I thought the only way to recover a galaxy phone that won't respond at all is with the jtag and that the usb jigs were for soft brick recovery or if they can't get into download mode?
ive never used one but like you said, it is to push the phone into download mode. if you can get there then your good to go.
