This is the answer. HTC Dev is not helpful in the rooting process. It makes things harder than they need to be and it let's HTC track that you have rooted the phone so you can't claim warrenty.

i got the answer from HTCdev:
My name is Enrique and I am a Technical Support Agent for the HTC Written Team.
I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with this process.
The reason for this is that during the last few days it was possible to experience short time outages in services provided via web page www.htcdev.com.
To receive the unlocking file, I would like you to perform the following steps:
1. Please check spam box in your email.
2. Please try to unlock your bootloader using different email address to receive the unlocking file.
3. Try to unlock the bootloader again during the next couple of days.
I am confident that this will resolve your query, in the unlikely event that this does not please call or instant chat to one of our Technical Support Agents who will be waiting to guide you through step by step.

[Q] HTCDev with AT&T One X

I have had my HTC One X for AT&T for a week now. I noticed that paulobrien has found a way to root the One X. Unfortunately when I go to htcdev.com I get this message while trying to unlock my bootloader.
"We're sorry, but it appears your attempt to unlock the bootloader on this device has failed. This could be caused by several factors including simple errors in the entry of the unlock token, problems with your device, or a lack of manufacturer support for the unlocking process. Please see the specific error code listed below, and try again if necessary.
Error Code: 160.
Error Reason: MID Not Allowed."
I remember getting this message with the HTC Vivid.

I also get this error when attempting to unlock the bootloader. Any ideas?
you cannot unlock bootloader yet for AT&T, it's known fact right now. root is independent of the bootloader too, so just cuz we have root doesn't automatically let you unlock bootloader. just give it some time, maybe in a month or so.
I thought it wasn't possible to unlock if you was on ATT

it's not possible. all we have at the moment is root, we'll have a bootloader unlock in some time i'm sure, either sanctioned or unsanctioned.

Sorry about your cancer. You might want to get that looked at..
But, it turns out that it wasn't working because of my OTA update to 2.2.. So even the tutorials in the development section won't work until someone figures how to get behind the new update.
Just thought everyone should know!
Also, I know how to search, I just wanted one of you guys to do it for me. Thanks!

Are you serious? You bumped a 3 month old thread which is only somewhat relevant to your situation AND made your own post?
Did you even read how to unlock a 2.20 htc one x?
Did you read the 3000 threads here on how to do it?

You cannot search, you cannot root, in fact this phone cannot even make calls.Return your phone and exchange for an iPhone. Then go to iPhone forums and post many threads asking how to jailbreak. Thank you.

Is there a bootloader unlock for build 3.17?

Hi again. I just found out from someone on AC that my Rogers one x is running build 3.17. Is the a way to unlock the bootloader for this at this time, or is it too new? I want to root my device as soon as possible. It is also running android 4.1.1. Thanks.

Just head over to htcdev.com and unlock it ...and flash twrp than root or Rom... I think you can only run jb sense roms right now but maybe the cm10 devs have implemented the kernel changes
Thank you very much. I regisyered with them today and am just waiting for my activation email. Cheers.

I think the email should come pretty much immediately. If not, you might have to register again using another email address, or contact the website tech support. The HTCDev.com website is very glitchy.

(Q) Lost Unlock Code.bin file

My computer bit the dust and I didnt back up my unlockcode.bin. I'm going to attempt to flash my carriers RUU again. Will I be able to get a new unlockcode.bin file from HTC Dev after I've re-locked my phone, should my RUU not work?
Just go through the process again with HTCDev they will send it again.

[S-off] Firewater s-off for HTC One XL

Firewater S-off for HTC One XL!
Firstly let me say that this isn't my own work, all credit goes to @beaups and @Fuses for bringing this to our device.
Firewater is a new method for achieving s-off on HTC devices.
For everyone that has taken the 5.18 at&t update before unlocking you should be able to use Firewater. It has a temp root feature which will enable you to get s-off on your device, once you have s-off you can get SuperCID via a simple fastboot command (fastboot oem writecid 11111111), then you can unlock your bootloader at htcdev. I'd really appreciate any feedback on whether this works for you.
This is just a simple thread to get this method some exposure for users with our device. As per the licensing section on the site and beaup's wishes I cannot include the download or instructions in this thread. However, we can have this thread serve as a troubleshooting/help location for the One XL. Alternatively, support for rumrunner s-off is available at #rumrunners on the freenode and andirc networks. Please make sure you meet all of the requirements before contacting support.
Firewater S-off.
Please go give beaups and Fuses a bunch of thanks for their work!

error in setsockopt().
Failed to get prepare_kernel_cred address.
Failed to get commit_creds address.

I agree we need a few more people to test, as new as the guy that did test is. it could be a simple mistake as having anti virus on the computer, etc.

I can't think of any. You might try entering a root shell after running the temp root, just to verify that is what is failing

*UPDATE* I had no luck. same error as the last guy
error in setsockopt().
Failed to get prepare_kernel_cred address.
Failed to get commit_creds address.
Failed to get ptmx_fops address.
Failed to setup variables.
I'm going to be receiving another HTC One X soon. I can only assume that it will be on the 5.18 firmware so I will try this method. If not... off to Mobiletechvideos for S-Off.
I got the sane errors

Confirm NOT working on 5.18 firmware
Since I like to run the updated AT&T ruu whenever they come out WeakSauce-1.0.1.apk worked great for temp root and to get everything going again without needing pc after initial ruu. I was wanting to test stock for abit then was on the road and wanted to go custom and weaksauce worked perfect.
I am on 5.18. temproot gives the same errors others have posted. Weaksauce enables a successful su but firewater fails, not always with the same messages. I would love for this to work, but it looks like I'm just going to get any M8 anyway and make sure I s-off while the exploits still work on it.
Just did s-off on mine tonight and then super-cid. Mine also hung up at chugging. Exited the program and ran it again successfully. I am overjoyed now. Many thanks to the devs.
