Hi everyone, I have had my Galaxy s 4g for almost a year. Its under warranty and I have a custom Rom on it. Recently, the USB port started actin weird and the phone is now unable to be recognized by the computer. When I plug it in to charge, if the phone is off, it will automatically turn on instead of the charging indicator. It can charge no problem and I have changed roms on it via cwm with the same result. Odin 1.85 nor does SuperClick 2.3.3 see it New cables dont work either. Im not sure what to do and I have to send this one back. Is there a way? Can anyone make a stock gingerbread cwm version without the root and no extras kinda like this one by Raver http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351783? Im new and dont know anyone or if that idea would even work.....
Can you see your sd card on your computer when you connect your phone to the computer?
Try plugging it into each USB port on your computer until it shows up, or if possible, try a different computer.
Yea, I tried those suggestions. Other devices work on all my computers with the same cable. The replacement phone works using the same accessories as well....Any other thoughts?

Is that a yes or no?
Sorry, I meant to say no.
Chain fire has a mobile ODIN.
But you have to buy it, and Idk how reliable it is.

It is not.
Not sure if it works then. Its supports i9000 and some other funky models. Is their like an alternate code for the galaxy s4g that similar to i9000?
Well, can someone tell me atleast how to remove root from a ROM?
The title pretty much says it all, I am running rooted rogers stock, and recently my phone has stopped connecting through usb. I have tried on multiple computers and on each one, thr phone just charges when connected, i dont get a notification saying that usb is connected, nothing. I am not using the cable that came with my phone as i have lost it, but the cable im' using worked fine in the past (its a kindle usb btw). I am wondering if theres any way to fix this, or am I SOL?

Try to install the latest Samsung USB Drivers.
Also you can try plugging it to another computer/laptop, if it doesn't work either then there is a chance that the cord has gone bad. I know my computer doesn't recognize my phone when its on my USB extender but when I use the stock USB cord it detects it fine.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. Went to the AT&T repair facility and got it swapped out. You can find out where the closest one is from a retail store. Since Galaxy is so new, you probably shouldn't even need your receipt. If you are rooted, I hope you have a stock NANDROID backup of unrooted stock. I was afraid they would deny so I unrooted. Since I didn't have a NANDROID, and didn't want to flash ODIN and trip the counter, I ended up having to make a CWM flashable zip of stock, including stock recovery, using WIFI to transfer the file, and flash. I heard many tech don't care and will swap out for you either way. Hope you get it swapped w/o hassle!

Could also be an issue with the cable. Had similar issues before switching to a new one.

Read my first post, my problem is that my phone wont connect to my computer through usb so i couldn't flash that tar even if i wanted to
I have the same problem and upon format in cwm it says dev/block unable to.format
There's a similar thread on this in the General section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626813&page=2
In short, IMO it's likely a cold solder issue. Have a long conversation with someone (45 min-hour) with the phone in your hand (so it heats up internally) then connect to a computer. If it comes up, you know it's a hardware issue. This was the case with mine.
an H"I've been doing a lot of reading, and it has served to confuse me. I;m not new to rooting Nandroids or flashing ROMS...but that is based on Android phones.
My 101 is likely a sbkv1 (s/n starts with b40). It is completely orginal, with latest ICS ROM.
I see multiple ways to root. But I've also read about "create a gold card", no "you don't need a gold card". "Use ROM Manager", "Don't use Rom Manager'. "Partition SD Card"...I've never done that on any phone.
I've read things that gives me the impression that backups are different from what we do on the phones.
I have no idea how I am supposed to hook to a PC to do rooting. Haven't found anything on that. I had expected a basic Rooting starter guide that would include that.
I hate to ask what for most here is probably considered basic stuff, or easily found by search. I have tried some research, as noted above.
Hopefully someone can point me to a good, current type of overview or some initial guidance.
[EDIT]
Reviewing again the post about 'gold card', I realize that one turned up in a search from the suggestions presented when i started this thread, and it was from an HTC Desire thread. I had thought that suggestions for answers during a post would search only the thread you are posting in. Not so.
i recently rooted my TF101, and it was no different than all the phones i've ever rooted. backing up is the same too via ClockworkMod. and as for ROM Manager, i've never used this before anyways. i've always preferred booting into CWM and flashing ROMs that way.
i used the guide here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689193
it's basically one of those DOS-prompt looking root programs. and it does it all for you.
the only downside i've had so far from using this method, for some reason my computer will not recognize the TF101 is connected anymore. even though it was initially connected before root.

Have you put a new ROM on? My main motivation to do this is to hopefully improve performance. I find that in both the stock and Chrome browsers, I get a lot of pauses, and lags.

i've tried a few ROMs- Megatron, Revolver, Liquid Smooth, CyanogenMod. each of these still wouldn't allow my computer to recognize it. and even stock rooted. but- each of these did provide a noticeable performance boost. and i ended up staying with Megatron. i'm tempted though to try out the Jelly Bean ROMs.
and i'm using the cable that came with the tablet. it's unfortunately the only cable i have, so i can't test to see if the cable is at fault for connecting issues. and i haven't tried to connect to another computer yet either. i left it plugged in during the entire root process. once finished, it was no longer recognizable.
edit: actually, i lied, it was no longer recognized after installed ClockwordMod. i forgot this was an additional/optional step.so yea, root finished, continued to use the software to install and reboot into CWM, and then lost PC connectivity.

I did notice that in the DEV thread. I'll give it a go.
One other question: I presume that doing all this, I should do so with keyboard not hooked up, and that the updates make no difference to the keyboard utilization.
Oh, too...is it possible to restore just data (from a Nandroid) on this after installing a ROM and have success? I have done that on my SGS III. (I suppose it depends on the ROM...maybe I should ask/read in that thread).

i originally rooted and installed CWM without the keyboard dock connected. and actually come to think of it, i've been trying to connect to my computer through the keyboard dock. i haven't tried to connect from tablet straight to computer. man, if this is the problem.... damnit all.
and i never restore data. i always like to start fresh. and then use Titanium Backup to restore everything. you can always stay on stock rooted, install Titanium Backup, run backup, flash a ROM, then install Titanium Back, and restore.

Cool. Your helping me paid off for you too.
Just finished putting Revolution on. It is faster.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (SGH-I727 / AT&T) that I cannot get to connect to a PC after weeks of trying. I have tried to read through hundreds of threads regarding this issue and it seems others have had similar issues but nothing quite like this.
When I connect my phone to a PC, it does charge but Windows XP or Windows 7 will not recognize the phone. Anytime it is connected an error pops up stating "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it."
So to clarify, I have tried the following suggestions from others to troubleshoot and try to narrow down the issue:
1.) I have tried 4 separate USB cables, including the original OEM Samsung brand data cable that came with the phone.
2.) I have tried 3 separate PC's (2 with Windows 7, 1 with Windows XP).
3.) I have installed Samsung Kies on all 3 PCs, uninstalled and reinstalled the program as well as the Samsung Drivers on multiple occasions.
4.) I have done a factory/data reset on the phone twice to see if this was an issue caused by other apps I've downloaded in the past.
5.) I have tried to use USB Debugging/Developer option and then connect the phone to no avail.
6.) I have tried USB Mass Storage option before connecting the phone.
7.) I have tried to connect the phone to a PC in Samsung's default recovery mode and still showed it was not a recognizable device.
8.) I have tried a friend's galaxy S3 on all cables and PC's mentioned above and Kies immediately recognizes her phone.
9.) I have attempted to clean the physical microusb port with a small brush to make sure the contacts were clean and not being blocked by something.
10.)I have done a battery pull and about 20+ phone resets for all above mentioned attempts.
Based on all of these attempts without any success, it seems to me that this being a PHONE hardware issue is highly probable. I've ruled out just about every other scenario and I'm wondering at this point if my phone's Micro USB port is fried somehow.
Has anyone heard of this or is this a reasonable possibility?
I have tried just about everything I can so far, if anyone has any other suggestions or has any information that may confirm my suspicion, please let me know.
This all came about in the past week due to Jelly Bean being finally released by AT&T / Samsung for the Skyrocket and unfortunately, this update only seems to be available via Kies and a direct data cable to a PC. I have tried to go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check for Updates (while connected to Wifi with a full battery) and the phone has told me 3 times over the past 3 days that my current Ice Cream Sandwich v4.0.4 Android is the most current software up to date. I'm guessing they're not planning on releasing Jelly Bean to the Skyrocket via OTA air updates....so now I'm stuck.

Well after getting into the details on the post, it looks like this is created for a phone that already has a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP installed. Since I do not have a USB port to use on this phone as of right now, is there any way to install a custom recovery on my phone without using USB?
I did download the stock 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware directly on the phone's default directory already and it's sitting there in a zip format. If I'm not able to root and/or install a custom recovery without using a USB cable, would it be possible to install the stock firmware using the default samsung recovery mode?

It wouldn't work. Nothing will install in Android System Recovery <3e>. Everything I tried still came back with Signature Verification Failed.
I also tried lifting the "tongue" inside the usb port on the phone several times previously and that didn't work either. I must assume at this point the usb daughterboard or something inside is messed up.
Since stock recovery can't install any type of files and I can't connect the phone to a PC in any way and my phone is 100% stock without root or any custom recovery, I can only imagine I'm stuck in this situation. I have yet to see any solutions for getting root or installing CWM without having a USB connection that works. Unless I can do either of those things, it looks like I'm SOL for updating from ICS to JB.
If they had only made Jelly Bean an Over the Air update, none of this would be a problem really.

So .... lesson learned here is that you CANNOT root a phone or install any custom recoveries such as CWM or TWRP without having a working USB connection. As a result, you CANNOT install any updates, stock firmwares and especially custom roms without the above.
Only option at this point is to order the replacement part for the USB port on the phone or to purchase a new phone (if it's outside of the warranty period).

hello, I have a samsung galaxy blaze and a while ago i tried to root my phone but i was ignorant and tried to install a root for the wrong OS, and if it wasn't for your guys' help i probably would have had to gotten a new phone, so thank you again! Anyways today i tried to connect my phone to my PC and it used to work (like when i broke it before i did it throught the PC) but now it just charges it and NOTHING comes up. i re-installed the drivers twice and nothing. The reason I want to do that is i keep getting a low memory notice and I can't open my gallery. I deleted all my music off of it and most of the junk apps and I still can't open my gallery. I have a 16GB external SD card and I want to put all my pictures and music and apps on that but when I move my apps to the SD card it just fills up the USB storage. So my questions are how can i connect my phone to my PC again? it only charges it........How can I clean up my phone and put ALL my music on my SD card? I want to root it. right now everything is stock and its Android 4.4 and I'm thinking I want to root it so I can delete the bloatware and make it run faster. Thank you!
Edit: I have tried everything in the threads i found and nothing is working for connecting it my PC
Okay, I might have a solution .. but first, you say everything is "stock" then you turn around and say it's Android 4.4, I'm assuming you mean ICS?.

Are you able to enter download mode still?
Just push the part in the USB on the phone so that the smaller part becomes bigger. Wouldn't recommend this as my USB port broke after weeks of doing this. I replaced it and it works good.
