[Q] CM10 HDMI out - LG Optimus 3D

When I plug in my hdmi it auto rotates my screen to landscape. When I go to watch netflix the image is vertical and sideways, is there anyway to fix this?

hdmi is listed under the things which not work in cm10.
I have the same problem and haven't found a fix.

[Q] for those of you with an hdmi cable

got my motorola micro hdmi to full hdmi cable in the mail today. plugged 'er in and the picture came up right away. however, the whole screen of my xoom is not showing on my tv. i cant find any settings on the xoom to adjust the tv out.
any suggestions?
You're not going to see the status bar.
i know that, but it also cuts off about an inch on each side, and a small part of the top and bottom. its almost as if its zoomed in a little.
Well that's your TV then. Some do that.
ok, that's what i figured. just wanted to make sure there wasn't a setting on the xoom.

Play with the different zoom options on your tv. You might have one that fits the entire image on the screen. This problem is caused because the xoom screen is 16:10 aspect ratio and your TV is 16:9
On my TV I have input settings that allow me to change it to the devices native ratio, or zoomed in on that. Maybe yours will have something similar.
I haven't tested my Xoom on the TV yet, but I know when I had my desktop hooked up to my TV, I had to have special settings for it because it would never display correctly.
OK Find out how to turn off over scan on your TV and it should solve the issue. Having over scan off for HDMI connections also improves image quality so its good to have it off

[Q] Incorrect resolution on HDMI out

I'm currently on the stock ICS latest version. I plugged my TF101 to my HDTV and HD monitor via a mini-hdmi -> hdmi adapter and a standard HDMI cable. Video and sound is present....
However, the screen I see on the monitor/tv is not in the native 1920x1080 resolution. The screen is cropped at the bottom and cuts of a the middle of the home/back/recent bar. The sides are not fitted so there's a black bar on each side.
Has anyone experienced this issue?? Is there any solutions to it or any ROMS that I can try out that doesn't have this issue?
I was under the impression that the HDMI output would fit the screen perfectly
when i plug my tf via hdmi cable (hdmi type c [mini] to hdmi type a [regular]), i get 1280x720. It only switches to 1920x1080 when playing hd movies.
Also, it does crop a bit off the bottom, and i can't see the bottom bar at all on the screen. I do not, however, have black bars on the sides.
AFAIK the hdmi output resolution for tf101 is 720p.... chipset limitation.
thank you so much for clarifying. Maybe my screen doesn't auto adjust the resolution or something. From the demos I see on youtube, it fills up the entire screen and doesn't have the bottom black bar (home, back, menu buttons)
I had the same problem with my samsung monitor for a while and it was the auto screen adjustment that was causing the problem. In the settings for the TV display I changed the output from 16:9 to fit screen width.
That solved the problem. Hope it helps.
EDIT: AFAIK HDMI out never shows the bottom bar(back, home, recent apps) on my screen. It just mirrors the whole tablet screen above the bottom bar

The bottom bar is showing on mine when I plug in HDMI out.......well...half of it at least....
However, when I load videos from youtube or media players, it goes full screen. It's ok....I don't use hdmi out much but just wanted to know. Maybe a bug in the ICS stock rom?
Still having problem going into Clockworkmod after root...but that's for another thread

[Q] HDMI output but stay in portrait?

Hello,
I am interested in keeping the android UI layout in portrait mode when it is connected to hdmi. Was wondering if this can be workedaround by a change to ini, boot or system file.
I currently have SGS2 and an Xperia S, I have HDMI working however the behavior is it shows in portrait for a second THEN the orientation switches to landscape, regardless of the phone's physical orientation. Seems like Android is programmed to go into this orientation when hdmi is connected, but it's not very useful to me...I'd rather it just stay in portrait , or better just follow the darn phone's physical orientation.
The phones should be capable of portrait output as it is shown like that for a second or two before the switch takes place, but how to keep it in portrait/disable it from going into landscape?
Hoping someone that has more programming skill than me-average Joe to find out where, how to do this.
Thanks in advance.
Eric
There's an app called rotation locker in this forum and I think on google play. Requires root though

Tried that app, it didn't work.
The experience seems like some sort of status checking + switching of layout only when HDMI is connected.
I've observed this on stock Androids, if i'm using custom rom on my SGS2, this doesn't happen, so keeping the orientation in portrait CAN happen, just depends on the ROM, so it must be an action tied to HDMI connection being active.
Any more ideas?
You'r phone should have a place in the settings to keep it in portrait mode.
Try this: Settings>Display>Un-check "Auto-Rotate Screen"
Hope this helped
It is already unchecked, that's the first thing I checked naturally.
Anyone that has exp hacking or dived into system files with ideas?
My LG Optimus 3D did not have this problem. It did follow exact orientation of the phone. I see that your SGS2 is HDMI via MHL and an Xperia S is HDMI type-D same as mine.
I had tried the MHL adapter on a Galaxy Nexus and it was the same behavior as Xperia s, the device switched into landscape and can not be rotated the other way so the MHL vs Hdmi out is not the difference here. Good thinking tho.
Anyone else?....

Emulator output blurry over HDMI

I have tried a number different emulators on my TF700 and I have found that a number of them (SuperGNES) for instance, will display fine on the tablet but their output is blurry on the TV via HDMI. The screen will even sharpen up for a second when I swap to another app or a menu but when playing it goes blurry. All other pps seem to display fine. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or knows of a solution?
Thanks
UPDATE: Retroarch seems to work fine but I can't seem to get it to work with my 8bitty or my onlive universal controller

Prob the emulator itself. Is it stretching the screen for a standard definition out put rather than HD? Time to contact the emulator maker. it may look fine on the tab but that is because the screen is much smaller.

[Q] HDMI Issues Resolved in 10.6.1.15.3?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for confirmation that the HDMI issues introduced with Asus' first release of JB 4.2.1 (10.6.1.8) has been resolved with 10.6.1.15.3.
Specifically, the issues that plagued me were:
- HDMI to TV output limited to 640x480 resolution.
- Missing HDMI Scaling/Cropping mode options.
I never even got around to testing HDMI audio before I decided to go back to JB 4.1.1, but I have seen the reports of HDMI audio issues here on this forum.
If anyone who is on 10.6.1.15.3 can confirm that these issues have been resolved, please post here!
I miss outputting at 1080p / 720p (depending on the TV) and cropping mode, and I'm not willing to update to JB 4.2 until these options are once again available to me, so I would really appreciate your feedback.
Thanks.
Audio issue fixed here for me - it would work on one screen but not on 2 others before the latest update
No cropping/scaling options in settings for HDMI, just 3D Output (if connected to 3D screen).
I've only had this a couple of months and started with JB so I don't know what other options there may have been before.
According to the screen it is receiving a 720p signal.

So, I took the plunge and upgraded to stock JB 4.2.1 (10.6.1.15.3). The output to TV does now go to 720p, but I am still missing the HDMI cropping and scalling options as you have indicated.
It looks like I'm sticking with JB 4.1.1 for a while longer...
Aaron, the cropping mode basically crops the status bar off the bottom of the screen on the TV, and gives me a "full screen" experience, which is great for when I'm playing emulators or watching videos and want some screen real estate that would otherwise be taken up by the status bar. And, it eliminates the bars that would otherwise appear on the left and right sides of the screen.
Thanks.
Hi!
ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T with TV FullHD Panasonic TX-P42VT20E
I still have the HDMI (resolution) problem:
with the previous firmware (Version 10.6.1.8 WW SKU) the HDMI signal was at 1920x1080p (1080p) always with the two vertical black bars in the left and in the right.
Now, with the latest firmware (Version 10.6.1.15.3 WW SKU), the HDMI signal is at 1280x720p (720p) always with the two vertical black bars in the left and in the right....
From what I see, even if the signal is 16:9 I still see the two vertical black bars in the left and in the right as if it were a 16:10 video format.... Then the HDMI signal is 16:9 but the video format is the same of the Tablet, then 16:10.
This is a very big problem to watch movies and youtube on TV!
At now I did not find a solution to solve the HDMI scale problem. The only workaround that I find is to lunch this command from a terminal:
am display-size 1280x720
this command will solve the HDMI scale problem, the HDMI output and also the tablet screen output will goes to 1280x720 (720p) resolution.
Now I would like to understand if there is a way to set the HDMI output at 1920x1080 (1080p) as the the previous firmware Version 10.6.1.8 works.
How is possible to "force" again the tablet to use 1080p resolution to the HDMI output? There is a conf. file into filesystem where this settings is setted?
Also, with Android 4.1 oldest firmware what was the HDMI output resolution? 1080p or 720p?
Thanks!
I don't know if anyone noticed but the HDMI output is streaming 5.1 PCM signal even if your content is only using 2 channel audio stream.
This will generate problem when you connect your tablet to a 5.1 Home Theater system and you will only get sound from front L/R speakers.
Hope Asus can fix this.
