Trying to fix an ATRIX 2 for a friend... he said he dropped it from about 2 feet on the a hard wood floor and it landed on its face... I've done about a good bit of searching through this ATRIX 2 community and couldn't find issue related to what is happening... phones dead for one... when I attempt to charge with moto USB/wall/ car no response when I attempt to charge from a Samsung wall charger (5.1v700mA) screen will flicker static type image then back light will remain light 5-15 sec Max.. again flicker back light then nothing.... no led response or illumination of captivate keys.... when plugged in USB into laptop (laptop on charger doesn't do it off charge) the notification led will flash white at the start of it being plugged in or after being unplugged... their is no cracks in the screen at all...should I make a factory cable and get it to boot prior to worrying about replacement of a digitizer if one was needed I know with my RAZR and d4 it would boot I just wouldn't see anything... thank you kindly for any assistance

Any thoughts...?

does the laptop detect the phone ? as in installing drivers and all ? or if motocast is installed, does motocast get activated ? cause we need to know whether atleast the phones internals are responding..
No response in the least bit from the laptop... drivers are installed... I do have motocast installed for my d4... I don't even get the da-ding noise

Dunno man, i guess its a motherboard problem or maybe the phone usb port problem.. you sure the battery has any power ?
Im just assuming here.. i guess your friend needs to take it to the moto repair centre..
When i get home tonight ima go ahead and make the factory cable to see if i cant get it to boot up... moto repair is not likely there is a cell repair near me but he's on the low income side and was just hoping I can get my good deed of the day out of it by a cheep or free fix... all out of my pocket... I was thinking it was something more then a digitizer as with my RAZR and d4 it would have a response from HDMI and PC would recognize them...thank you kindly for the quick reply...

Factory cable had no response... so I called moto and apparently when I told him to call he didn't... moto said it was still under warranty check my email for the prepaid postage find a box and send it in... I was even gonna pay them the extended warranty fee but I got lucky there... thanks ATRIX 2 community I will return to my d4 realm

The micro USB port on my infuse is getting really loose. Its to the point where if I pick my phone up.while its plugged in and even just check my phone it will fall out shortly after picking it up. Is there anything I can do to try to fix it? Would Samsung do anything about it? I haven't even had it a year yet.

Yeah, join the club. I had the same problem. I started charging it with the cable to the slightly older model of this. http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digit...Portable/dp/B0041OSAZS/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_1 It was a little bit nicer quality than the one that it came with. I would maybe get some backup batteries with a charger. I ordered http://www.amazon.com/Anker-1800mAh...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1335451042&sr=1-2 Then you would no longer have to worry about charging with the cable if you didn't want to. For data transfers you just have to be really careful and don't hit it. I'm actually in the process with Best Buy to getting a new phone. Their black tie plan is covering me and getting me a refurbished phone. But those are your options. Good luck..
And just for the record, I ordered them with a jig thinking that would fix my phone. All that I know is they both charge, and I only bothered trying one of them with put my phone into a bootloop very well.
Thanks >>
I used to connect using cable before even for little data. But now I have a folder called temp in my dropbox, and use that for transferring little little files (unto 100 MB or so) and use wifi to get that data from db to my phone. Saves on battery too cos connecting cable for little times multiple times could take its toll on battery too, not just the port.
HeLlO - Kies Air.
I'm using usb cables from nokia and blackberry they fits more stable for some reason.
No problems with my USB port, however I have been battery swapping since December. I also transfer data via drop box or airdroid. I'm really loving drop box, my wife takes pictures and video of the kids while I'm out of town on business and they automatically get uploaded. Works out pretty well.

You could always try to get it back to stock and send it in. It has a year manufacture warranty on it.

I had the same problem. Got to the point it wouldn't charge. Called AT&T. After some troubleshooting, they determined I should take to my local service center. It was replaced with a new (refurb) phone. Of course I had to get it completely back to stock. So far happy with the new one. Updated it with stock Gingerbread. Will stay with that for a while.
I've been using dropbox too for data, but it's the charging or charging it in the car that's annoying. Like when using it fir GPS and having the cable pop out all the time makes it annoying. I might try calling att and seeing if I can get anything done under warranty. Should have some time to deal with them soon. Thanks for the ideas.

so i've gotten my hands on a galaxy s3, which i'm super pumped about, but it had a bad charge port. seems to have been corroded with sweat (the woman ran with it in her shirt lol) so i cleaned it up hardcore with some rubbing alch etc, but i cannot get it to charge correctly anymore. basically, it might charge half a percent per every hour or so....like, something incredibly slow. last night i left it on from 8pm until 10am the next day, and it only went up about 26%.
when plugged into PC, the comp tells me unrecognized USB device, blah blah blah, can't install drivers..so clearly there's something up with the charge port. now i've found a replacement on ebay for only 5 bucks, which is awesome..however, i don't know what kind of task it would be to replace the charge port, as i've never done it before.
anyone have any experience, or have any better methods to clean out the current port? i've used a toothbrush with rubbing alch, and then a toothpick to fine clean it in there, and then i blow it out with compressed air after i let it sit a bit just to fully dry it out. again, it'll charge, but so horribly slow...and thing is, it even says AC charging, too.
here's a pic as an example:
Why wouldn't you just go to Verizon and get a replacement? or even a 14 day swap if you're in the 14 days?
lol bc it's not my phone..i bought it off a customer at my store since it was busted (she bought another one lol) and either way, we can't warranty it because she has two small cracks in the two corners..she's obviously dropped it within the 1 week she had it anyway.
What??? Jayochs! Sorry I don't have anything to contribute but there is a thread on here of a guy who disassembled a GS3 so maybe that will help you get an idea?

that's IF i can get this thing repaired lol
so i got the charge port today finally....i also got an external battery charger and 2 aftermarket batteries in the mean time (problem is it takes like 10 hours to charge from 0 to 100%......crappy charger)
so now i have this tinyyy little USB port, and i've never really taken a phone apart before, especially doing soldering work on a PCB.
does anyone have any experience or anything replacing it on this phone yet? i'm scared to do it myself, but i absolutely need to fix this charge port so i can charge normally and root, etc
damn, nevermind...just read that you need a hot air soldering gun to do it, and i don't have one of those. i guess there's nothing left to do but just swap batteries in and out of it..no root for me

You could always take it to a pc repair shop. They'll probably charge you $20 to do it, especially if the phone is already taken apart.

*sigh* you're here too? This is going to be the rezound forum all over again lol...

I would gladly fix your charge port for a price. The main thing about diy is do not be afraid of breaking something, your s3 and other electronics are built sturdier than people think...... Think how hard people drop em and they still work. But don't just go taking on stuff, be careful just don't be afraid and renege where everything went and in what order. Its really simple. I've been working on phone hardware and xboxs, ps3s etc for a few years now..... I'm just not getting into the software stuff

If you are really worried about doing the repair your self, and can't find someone to do it at a reasonable price......I would just do the palm stone wireless charging mod.
The needed parts are ten bucks on Amazon

There is a guy in red bank
that replaces ports for like $60. He was going to repair my GS2 (my last phone) but I just bought a phone with a cracked screen and swapped the board instead. PM me if you would like his number but he advertises on craigslist.
awesome, thanks for the info! the only real reason i want this port working is so i can root, so that wireless charging method isn't really for me, but thanks for suggestions guys!
Charging port repair
So what is the guys ph # for repairs? or do you have a link to a DIY video so I can see it and adventure myself into it.??
Thank you kindly
Bill

I plan to use this video to reference how to fix my gs3 should anything go wrong with my device in the future. I found this video on YouTube which explains disassembly and reassembly really well. Looks like the charging port is soldered to the main board.

Morning all,
My Xoom (MZ602) was exposed to some water. While the unit powers up and the screen comes on its not responding to touch, swipe, etc. Does this mean the digitizer is prolly shot? I am trying to determine what spare parts I need to purchase to bring this beloved device back to full operation.
Thanks,
Steve
I think my battery went bad and mine was doing the same thing as yours but only when plugged up. Once I unplugged it the touchscreen worked fine. No the battery is dead and won't charge

Mine does it either plugged or unplugged. I can charge the device with no issues. Based on all I have read it looks like I will replace the screen and digitizer, and go from there.
Thanks!
My N7 4.4.2 Not Rooted has been playing up lately. For the 2nd time in 3 days, I picked it up and it wouldnt respond. I could hear the screenshot being taken so the phone was on but the screen was black. It vibrates after using the power button and it finally boots up again. The phone has been perfect for about a month and this error only started recently.

Do a factory reset. Keep in mind that this will wipe your internal storage so be sure to back up and data, photos, etc. before hand. If that doesn't fix it then flash the factory image over. As to how, refer to this thread.
Your problem should be fixed after the Factory Reset though. Good Luck!
Thanks. I was hoping it wouldn't come to this but oh well. Is there a cause for this?

Were are talking about the N5 right?. I had this issue with my G2X a couple years ago. It turns out that after I took it apart the flex cable looked like at had been torn a tad bit. This sounds like a flex cable problem. Software could be the issue and a factory reset may help. However in my experience that's usually a flex cable or pop connection. Send it in if the reset does not work. Don't bother trying to do this yourself. It may be the front panel flex cable. Or the pop connection of the main board. When these cables are made, they are literally thrown into barrels and sent to The front panel assembly line. So chances are. One of these flex cables suffered some damage. Same goes with the tiny connection on the main board. These tiny pieces are put on one by one. I think robots do it. The device turned on for their tests. But the long run? ...Well you get the point.

Im just facotry resetting my phone right now, i'll post later the results after a few days of testing
Well? did the factory reset work? I have this issue and it's driving me nuts!!!! I read somewhere that squeezing the case helps, and indeed this seems to work something, to it looks like hardware issue to me
black screen nexus 5
I was totally desperate with this random black screen. I tried everything including change of flex cable and also screen, but the same random black screen
I changed the 2 years old battery with a new one and.... ooff... this resolved my problem .no black screen anymore
I hope that, with this solution, I give You another direction of thinking about what is causing this annoying problem
Hi folks,
i am struggling with the following issue and hopefully I find somebody who could help !
After I got a new battery for my nexus, it didn't boot or charge, so I thought the battery is broken. I contacted the seller and he sent me new one. For the time in between I just had my nexus running with my old battery.
So I got the second battery for replacement from the same seller, tried it and nope - didn't boot. I figured this one would be broken again and I tried to put my originally battery back into the phone but it would not run normally now either .
It only booted up a few rare times but the touch didnt work. Since then it only vibrates shortly when I try to turn it on. Afterwards there is nothing more though. Sometimes I can see the backlight bleeding but nothing more...
I changed my screen twice before and I didn't have any problems. So technically speaking I think I knew what I had to do.
Really frustrating. If you could share your ideas with me, that would be fantastic!
Thanks!
I just checked the connection with my computer and that seems to work. I know its not the displays fault so I reckon the USB connector???
Thanks again for your help!
Cheers
Edit: flashed the factory image now and that appeared to work...
I just ordered a New USB connector and see if that'll help.

OK, i think I found what is causing the trouble for me.
I have a loose contact at the connection between the mainboard and the USB connector...
Does someone know if that can be fixed?
Do you think Google will recognise I opened the phone a couple of times?
Sent from my XT1092 using XDA Free mobile app
This is a problem encountered by some others. The connection between the USB/Lcd ribbon and the motherboard has been know to have problems. so first check to make sure it is connected correctly.
I had it happen with one of my Nexus 5 phones. I sloved the problem by using tiny strip of 3M double stickover the top of the USB connector before positioning and screwing on the Motherboard cover . Be careful to ensure that each antannae wire is correctly connected too. You can test everything is working before replacing the rear cover. When you attach the rear cover be aware that it must be able to make a good connection so that NFC is enabled. Just be patient and take your time.
I hope thia helps.
Thanks! That actually helped a lot!
A piece of cardboard on top of the usb ribbon connector actually did it for me!
In fact it's back alive and now I am wondering if I keep my 5' or stick to my new moto x 2014
Thanks again for your help!
cheers
