Sandvolds ICS for Desire - General Questions and Answers

Hello!
My HTC Desire was working for more than 6 months with Sandvolds ICS for HTC Desire - and it worked pretty well, few bugs, few freezes. But suddenly my Desire freezes more often and if it freezes, it can't boot anymore and I have to do a full wipe and reinstall the ROM. I never had the problem before, but recently I had to reinstall the ROM like 20 times in the last three days.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
HTC Desire
S-OFF
HBOOT
Revolutionary Recovery
Sorry if someone has already posted this problem, I couldn't find any threads/posts which are related to this kind of problem.
Thank you,
Matthias

could it be an app you have recently started using?
If your forced to re-install every few days you could start with a barebones system and then slowly add a new app every day to see what happens?
Also make sure you wipe everything before you re-install, dalvik cache, etc so that its always fresh.

[Q] HTC Sense Continually FC'ing ARHD 4.1.5

Hi there,
Running Android Revolution with faux123's latest kernel and recommended radio etc.
Everything is running swimmingly except that HTC Sense occasionally closes while I'm running a program.
It doesn't ruin the phone but it's a huge inconvenience for a custom rom.
It'll also reboot sometimes but that's for another time

Clear data for sense apk in applications/ manage applications/ all apps. Reboot and see what happens. Should fix your issue
Hi.. Do you make full wipe?.. Before flash new rom..
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA Premium App
thanks rddocke, that should work, didn't occur to me :S
@mrboy I did a superwipe and dalvik/cache wipe.
And uhh, mental note for those doing the same, remember your home settings or jot them down somewhere
No problem buddy and you should only superwipe if your flashing a Rom with a different build. Like 3.0 to 3.5 or leedroid to arhd. Not necessary for updates on current Rom. I never superwipe. Don't like the hassle. But there is a program developed by..... I forget sorry!.... But it allows you to restore apps on masses rather than one by one. Which makes restoring from full wipe a lot more convenient
Oh I've got titanium backup which i think created the issue when I restored sense with the data.
My advice to anyone else is. wipe dalvik/cache when changing from same rom type and pick and choose which apps you want to restore WITH data

Bootloops with any Rom, PLEASE HELP..!!

guys I have a serious problem..!!
I was in 5.1.8 everything was fine non a problem and when 5.5 came out I installed it, super wipe script, and install the Rom; I was getting a lot of boot loops. Reinstall the ROM again full wiping, ans still the same. I came back to 5.1.8 and I'm still having boot loops but not that often like it was in 5.5, now I have boot loops when turn on the data or when I try to make a call... I really don't know what could be the problem because I have installed hundreds of roms with the same steps and everything was fine,.I don't know what could be the problem...
I hope someone could help me thanks a lot

Hi... I once had a similar problem late last year. My phone kept rebooting randomly, sometimes as soon I switch the phone on, or data like yourself. What I did was.... Installed the official RUU that came on my phone (O2) and the rebooting stopped. But I felt the need to send it back anyway, so I did and just as well, because HTC replaced the mainboard and a few other things. I hadn't overclocked or anything either so it was a strange one.
This way worked for me, so give it a go.
I rooted my phone, then unrooted without ever installing a custom rom. I have gotten boot loops ever since and seemingly random shut downs that require me to take out the battery and put it back in before the phone will boot up again. Happens every day, several times a day.

When you say rooted and unrooted what exactly did you do?? Meaning did you HTC unlock or use revolutionary to s-off? And what recovery did you use? Because in actuality all root is, is the su binaries and the su app, not the process of gaining the access. There are inherent problems with the htcdev unlock and using cwm as your recovery. Even if you delete su the remnants of either process could possibly cause problems. Did you return to s-on again?? Because that will cause serious issues if you don't have the correct ruu. Did you flash any newer firmwares??? The few before .32 did cause loops without the correct rom.
Also in your case it sounds like a rogue app causing loops because it boots up after a battery pull. Have you tried to factory reset and wipe your data to see if that helps??

Used Revolutionary, not sure what I used to put it back as it's been a while but I followed a guide from here. I'm trying the card piece trick so we'll see if it does anything.
Pm me if your soff I can help easy

Thanks but not s-off anymore and just got another reboot so I doubt it's the battery. I guess I'll try to deal with it until ICS and see if that fixes anything. If not then I guess I'll try something more drastic.
Well get soff you can't fix with out it

Ok, got s-off again.
It seems to have something to do with going in and out of service or switching between wifi and cell service. But that could just be a coincidence.
Anyone have ideas on how to fix this? I got the OTA ICS and I'm still getting reboots.

it won't hurt ur phone u must stick a tape to close the gap between batt pins and connectors do it and see it easy but worth allot
Tried that earlier in this thread and it didn't help.
Anyone else?
Well guys after reading I fixed my problem cleaning the little panels in the battery, and also installing another rom, seems like the htc sense roms have some problems with that because since I install a senseless rom (not aosp) the problem is gone

I think you did not unroot properly. Can you please describe the process you used for unrooting?
Don't remember what guide I used to unroot as it was a while back. It definitely seems to have something to do with the signal. It will lose signal, reboot, get pretty warm and repeat while sometimes just shutting off and needing the battery pulled and put back before it will turn back on. My wife will have a signal just fine in the same areas mine loses them.
Very frustrating because I'm missing a lot of calls and txts because it'll just shut down.

First make a NANDROID backup now. Then try rooting again to see if that fixes the issue.
If not, try to flash a different Radio. I would in your case also suggest wiping all partitions except SD card and re-installing the ROM, after flashing the radio.

Mildwild 4.3 crashing frequently on HTC Desire

I recently installed MildWild 4.3 (the Oxygen version) on an HTC Desire. Ever since, apps that were running fine with the stock ROM are crashing very frequently (50% of the time or more). Also, twice now I've had the entire phone completely lock up while using the browser. Even after pulling the battery and starting it up again, still nothing - it would just hang on the white HTC screen. I had to boot into recovery and clear the cache (regular and Dalvik, although both might not have been necessary) to get it to work again.
Anyone have similar issues, or suggestions as to how I could fix this? Thank you!
Make that three full-on, phone completely choked crashes now, within a week. Clearing cache partition alone seems to have worked this time, so looks like Dalvik was unnecessary.
Any ideas as to what might be going on, and how I could fix it short of putting an entirely different ROM on there?
Thanks!
I think you just go fot another ROM
Do this steps before install: Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik
Try that one and post then if phone works or not

I did do all those before trying this ROM, so I guess I will have to try another. *sigh* Don't have time right now, but hopefully I can limp by for a couple weeks.

Nexus S 4g Will Not Stop Rebooting

Hi,
I recently have flashed some new roms on my phone. So heres what happened... I had been using MIUI for months now for my NxS4g but the MIUI rom was just getting too laggy for me for daily use. So then I flashed Factory Rom. Worked good for a while then it started this rebooting randomly.. I Did Full Wipe, Format etc before flashing.. It seems fine while using it but once I turn the screen off and let it sit it just starts to randomly reboot. So I thought oh well its just the rom. Then I went back to MIUI and flashed the new Miui 2.10.26.2 which is a great running rom and I thought it fixed my problem because I spent an hour or 2 installing fresh new apps from the market, didnt restore anything or flash a custom kernel everything was stock and all fresh new apps. So I went to bed woke up at 6am like usual and noticed my phone had stopped responding... had to take the battery out and boot it up.. sometimes it does that and i have to pull the battery and sometimes it fully reboots. So now I am stumped ive tried everything i know. full format/wipes, fixing permissions, wiping dalvik and cache, and still not working! I hope my phone isnt dying or something. It was working fine. Please if anyone has a fix or knows what to do please help me! The only thing I haven't done is formatted my SD card which is what im about to try.
Thanks in Advance!
Adam
Hi,
What factory ROM?
Every ns4g responds to different kernels differently...maybe the newest version of that ROM u installed had a different kernel that sometimes causes many random reboots... so check that plz.
But u say udid a factory reset and stuff... did u wipe Dalvik and cache? Cuz that is important.
Good luck

[Q] HTC weird crash

Hi,
Yesterday I connected phone to the charger, then htc crashed, so I tried to pull out battery and put in after 5-10 mins but I couldn't boot up Sensation, even I didn't see orange/yellow LED light what means that charger is connected (I thought it's bricked device now...). Today I did the same standard procedure and surprisingly I could turn on my phone. Unfortunately, when I entered the PIN code, after 2-3 minutes htc crashed again. Screen frozen for about 10 seconds, I couldn't do anything. Recovery mode works OK, it doesn't crash there. I also tried to wipe all data and restore system from backups; install ROM again - and the same thing happened. I'm using ViperS ROM. I hope I didn't damage anything inside device. I might that HTC Service has replaced motherboard in my Sensation 1.5 month ago.
The question is what can I do, test or do something what can solve this problem? Since motherboard replacement it worked fine, till yesterday.
Maybe they replaced worse motherboard? I just wanna be ensured that I didn't do something bad (maybe it's known problem) before sending this device for 3 weeks again.
I look forward to the answers.
May be you have set the CPU frequency too high and reboots to protect your cpu. Also try to return to stock rom and see if there reboots

Thank you for your answer.
I don't think that 1566MHz is too high CPU frequency, but I set it to lower in viper's tweaks and it's still happening.
#edit
It crashed in recovery too...
Have you tried different rom, different kernel? If it's still happening start everything fresh and as it was suggested before go back to stock again. Run a RUU and see if it still happens.
Thank you guys. Works like a charm. I installed stock ROM, recovery again and then I restored backup. No crash for 1 hour, I hope it won't happen again.
Unfortunately, it worked fine for one day. Now I have the same situation. I ran Road Race game and after 3 mins of playing, screen got stucked and I heard loop sound.
Now I'm trying to boot up Sensation for 30 minutes.. It stucked on boot animation, but device doesn't get bootloop.
Maybe it's something wrong with GPU?
When u say restored backup, what do you mean? Apps or nandroid? After you flashed the ruu I would recommend to start fresh. If you use custom Rom, flash it with full wipe plus redownload all your apps again from play. Do not overclock gpu and cpu either.

I restored backup with data. Yesterday I installed stock ROM again and then I wiped all partitions. Next I installed Jelly Bean without restoring any app backups and it crashed too. I dunno what did I wrong. Maybe I should go back to S-ON and again do S-OFF?

No. No. No. NO. NO. NO.
That's just inviting more trouble... lots of people report errors when they S-ON again... so you might not want to do that... unless you want to go back to HTC service and ask about the problem...
Depends if they do S-ON well. I just dunno what can I do now, these crashes are really annoying. Probably I don't have a choice, so I should send it to HTC service, but I'm afraid that they will simply install software again, and then they will send me back with details on paper: "Software has been re-installed". That crash happens sometimes 5 minutes after boot to few hours after using.
