Which phone will have best developing support - General Topics

Hi, i have i9000 and i am happy with it but google will not update nexus s anymore. I like to try new kernels and roms, glaxy s was good until now. i think to buy new phone which must have good support by developers and aosp.
Which phone would you prefer

You can't really go wrong with any Nexus phone for developer support. The developer community is simply outstanding. I had to choose between a DROID Bionic and a Galaxy Nexus about this time last year. Looking back it is like night and day as far as options are concerned.

Help choosing a phone..

Hi
I'm planning to move on from my SGS 2 to a newer model.. but I'm not able to make up my mind.
I'm interested in the 4G SGS 3 though I've been thinking about the next nexus phone from LG or the upcoming HTC One X+...
My current phone is working perfectly fine but I'm looking for a phone with more speed as well as with 4G/LTE..
Should I wait it out for early next year to have better choices or should I just go in for the SGS 3?
By the way, Samsung is my preferred manufacturer, followed by HTC.. I've no idea how LG phones are in terms of build quality, support, etc.
Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Thanks.. I like the SGS3 a lot, though it's just so difficult to decide on one phone...
By the way, here in Finland, we have a deal going on for the Galaxy Nexus, with the current price of 370€ (http://www.verkkokauppa.com/fi/s?s=1&q=51397+or+23156) and is valid until next Monday 21.10 and this seems to be the best deal in Finland at the moment. The standard price is ~450€ I think...
Is there any sense is getting the Galaxy Nexus considering there are the newer Nexus devices coming up? In particular HTC “J Butterfly” Nexus 5 (along with the LG Nexus as mentioned previously)?
Thanks again. Cheers...
Edit: Also, regarding the processor, I'm no expert but from the reviews and reports, I see there are the Tegra 3 processors (like the one in HTC One X+) or the Qualcomm 'snapdragon' processors or Exynos processors and similar... Which is the better one? Should I chose a device that comes with a specific processor if I want to have a speedy, fast, high end phone?
And of course, I would like a manufacturer that regularly updates the OS without major delays whenever a new Android is being released...
Well I have the nexus, and that price is very very high. Ofcourse it is new from store but I have my nexus for 275 euro's. Second hand but only 6 month's old. Great phone but if I were you, I should wait for the gs4. Depends on how fast you need a phone, considering the gs4 is coming out in march 2013. If you can't wait I should definately buy the HTC one X+ or the GS3.

Thanks a lot.
I'm not in a real hurry to get a new phone as my current SGS2 is working great (and there is a possibility that JB will arrive soon for the SGS2)... But I just wanted to kind of 'upgrade' from the SGS2 to a more powerful, newer phone... Hence my questions regarding should I really wait (though I understand it's a kind of silly question considering how many new devices keep popping up every month) or just go in for a model such as the SGS3 or HTC One X+ that's been proven to be a great phone....
Basically I can wait for the new one.. I'm looking at having a new one by March/April 2013.
If you can wait just wait Mate, I know your feelings so many new phones but can't choose a good one and every time there is coming a new one out.

Work phone with an exact requirement/feature
Background:
I have just bought a Motorola Defy Plus. The reason I purchased it was - I wanted a phone that could allow me t record work calls and Defy Plus seemed promising as it enjoys good amount of support in the developers here and it was like very cheap. Now when I see the work involved in rooting and flashing custom rom I find myself not too sure about my capability of managing the whole process. Even if I do manage the rooting and flashing the custom rom, I still do not have any definitive information if call recording will be possible
New search:
Given the above now I am exploring any other phones that will allow me to take care of this requirement of recording my calls incoming and outgoing , without speaker, in the stock straight out of the box condition. Besides this particular requirement my usage of the phone is very mundane - some voice calls, minimal texting , little bit of email, no games , minimal camera, once in a while a couple of minutes of music if ever.
So if any of you can give me a suggestion i.e. which phone and which app - if you have a working combo - which will solve my problem shall appreciate it very much.
Cheers
Wait, even if the nexus devices aren't to your liking they are going to drive the price of current devices down. I have the SGS3 but sources / docs for exynos processors are sketchy so support isn't stellar. TBH if support matters go with nexus although you'll have to sacrifice sd support.

SD support meaning expandable SD card support/feature?
Well.. that's another thing I'd like to have (I forgot to mention before)... I need a phone that will enable me expand my storage with an external SD card.

Forget the galaxy nexus it is getting a little bit old i decided to go ahead whit the s3 and i have no complaints..
Speed is awesome
Battery life gets me from 9am to 11pm depending on how you/i use it.
Camera is good ( there is noise in low light shots )
Build quality is the same as the s2 ..
I dont know why but i got a feeling that lg making a nexus will be a mess..

I would recommend the G3. You can wait for the next phone to come up but you'll find that there is always a new phone about to be launched so you can wait forever. I've recently transitioned to the g3 and enjoy it very much. Liked it a lot better once I rooted and put a JB rom on it.
I'd go with a sgs3

(Q) Aosp roms

Are they as good as stock Android on the nexus? Do they have a tiny of broken features or are they pretty much complete fully functional roms? My main priorities are bt music streaming with audio track display and battery life, mhl, usb otg etc. . I'm an extremely heavy user. Also, how long did it take before you guys had a fully functional Aosp rom? Was the time comparable to how long it took to get it up and running on the nexus? I'm iffy on going to the nexus from the rezound because of radios and battery life, but I don't want to go to another situation like with the rezound where I can't get a oem update, and Aosp doesn't work either for months after its released. Thanks for any advice and sorry for bothering you guys with a new thread.

AOSP ROMS will be buggy because it's not made just for the phone. It will not hurt to flash and see if it will meet your DD needs.

I don't have a gs3 yet. I'm looking to upgrade. And I'm not sure if I want a gs3 or a sgn. I don't really want a sgn because of the older, slower hardware, but I'm tired of waiting on oems to give us what we pay for. I was just wondering how quickly you guys had solid jb after it was released, and if you guys think development will last at least a year and a half. I know I'm asking questions with no definite answers, I'm just tired of paying so much for these devices only to have development stop after 6 months. That's the only reason I'm considering older hardware.

There are bugs with all AOSP ROMs. AOKP has been fairly stable though.

The only real bug I've noticed with AOKP is that I can't get the LED settings to work whatsoever. The other ROM customization options work quite well. Haven't tried any other ROM yet, but if I were you I'd either buy the Galaxy S3 and flash AOKP or wait for the Nexus 4 and ditch Verizon.

I would but I want to make them force me off of unlimited data. And as bad as I hate to say it, there coverage where I travel is second to none. I would love to get the Nexus 4, but I don't see that happening since I just wanted can't bring myself to leave vzw. They really do screw us as customers though.
I would just wait for the nexus 4 if you have the option to wait for a bit.

Aosp roms will never be as perfect as true aosp on the nexus but it's as close as you're going to get. As for bugs they are getting worked out quickly

[Q] most supported android phone and tablet

Hi.
I'm thinking of buying a phone and maybe a tablet to do some apps testing on the device.
I wondered which phone an tablet has the largest number of developers and most reliable custome ROMs ?
I saw many people mentinioning the Nexus 4 and nexus tablet has to be the easiest to root,
but do the y also have the largest user base here in xda ?
I don't need aniything fancy since this is only going to be used mostly for testing and analyzing of apps.
Easy...

You should then go with Nexus..
Becoz the most development are there only for nexus series.....
................................................................................................

where are the developers?

Hello
I got my Note 3 on 01/12/2013, I was quite excited to own such a powerful device with specs that no competitor can match. So naturally I assumed that the device will attract a lot a of developer support, I did notice that the forums were running short of AOSP based ROMs and there were only a few TW based ROMS. However I thought things would pick up in the new year and more developers would come to the party......but that hasn't happened!!
So I have to ask, why is the Note 3 not getting enough developer support/interest? There is no OMNI, PA, AOKP, PAC, Slim ROMS. Even CM seems to be taking forever to officially release a nightly.
Why is nobody even interested in porting the above custom Roms? WHAT THE H3LL IS WRONG WITH THE NOTE 3?
At this point I am considering selling or swapping it for even a LG G2 or Nexus 5..... And i don't care about the stupid warranty if that's why most people are afraid. If i could port and maintain OMNI or PA or AOKP I would.....

There is a daily build being done by temasek and boy is it stable.. battery life is excellent also.
Pong has built a few daily builds also... he is doing well.
ProBAM AOSB is smooooth as.
PACMAN was pulled. BAM is still there... There's enough for now... Remember CM is still at a very very early stage for the Note, sources only been out a couple of weeks man give it time.
Maybe not a lot of devs would want to spend that much money on a phone. Maybe when it becomes more affordable then more devs will join in on the fun.
It's pointless to flash AOSP or CM or AOKP on this phone, since you lose so much functionality. The pen becomes dead weight. You lose multi window on apps. If you have flip cover, it just becomes a standard cover. etc. etc.
If you are going to use this phone, you are going to use Samsung's OS. That's it.

I doubt it's a money issue. i believe samsung really ruined it's relationship with the community, looking at the bricking bug that plagued the Note 1, i know @Entropy512 and @XpLoDWilD got pissed and left Samsung devices (no more team Hacksung) but i thought others would come to the party....

LOL! I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 too. But with the battery life I'm getting with that thing (I flew from Istanbul to USA for 12 hours, I used it non-stop and when I landed, I still had 25% left), I'll never flash another ROM on it.
Not much people will flash CM/AOKP/AOSP/PA and etc in Note series as it is downgrade the phone. Thus not many such developer on it.

A developers phone?

Im a android developer and im planning to buy a new phone for the scope of app development. My budget is 20k and my prefered choices are samsung galaxy note 5 and nexus 5. But my primary need is promising updates. I know nexus 5 is good in terms of update.but its a 2 yr old device...so I dnt know whether google will provide next update(which might be android N) for nexus 5.
If none of the above. Can you suggest me some other good options.
If you need to test apps definitely get a nexus. Samsung completely changed ART to be the way they wanted it, so using a Samsung device to test apps isn't such a good idea.
