[Q] HTC desire S Radio File - HTC Desire S

My apologize, if this ever been asked before...
I just download ICE_DS v.52 and Cooldroid Revolution 7.1, the author recommended to use file radio : 20.72.30.0833U_3831.17.00.310.
i've downoad the file from source in xda forums, when i check the zip file, it only contain 2 file :
- radio.img
- android-info.txt
i try updating the radio, but got stuck in bootloader menu, it's freezing with the words "Parsing PG88IMG.zip].
then i try download another radio file : 20.76.30.0835U_3831.19.00.110, (same from xda forums. when i check, it has more file in it :
- android-info.txt
- dzdata_4g.hdr
- dzdata_4g.img
- radio.img
- rcdata.img
- tp_atmelc12_20aa.img
then I read a comment that the 2nd file will change not only radio file but also hbot file, etc.
can anyone tell me how many files and the which files should there be in radio zip file? and perhaps a link to radio files 20.72.30.0833U_3831.17.00.310
tq very much for your help.

The first file should work, which hboot are you on? Oh, if you're htcdev unlocked and still s-on it won't work.
The second file has the radio and firmware files that were shipped together by HTC, it doesn't contain an hboot.

yes, because in all thread that i read about flashing new radio, it didn't mention about gold card.

Is it possible to flash a radio when you're s-on? I don't know. Certainly not with the PG88IMG.zip method. Maybe fastboot, I dont know.
Edit: or maybe that's why you need a goldcard.

I see, forgive me for my mistake. I'm still new in android world.
i thought by unlocking via htcdev, makes it s-off.
now maybe anyone can help me in showing me a way to s-off my desire s with my condition now (without have to downgrading the hboot) :
- on hboot 2
- rooted
can I use blackrose, like one provided in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1509236. do I install it through recovery mode?
since i look in ben's signature, it only showed how to s-off using revolutionary (only works for hbott 0.90 and 0.98).

one problem for downgrading is, i don't know the old RUU for the android since it belongs to my cousin. i tried 2 WWE RUU 1.31 - 1.48, both show customer ID error.
is there a way to check our stock ROM, let say from IMEI or something like that?

[Q] Update HBOOT to 1.18

I am on InsertCoin ROM and I would like to know if I can update my HBOOT from 1.17 to 1.18.
Is this possible or there is not 1.18 (revolutionary) hacked ?
Revolutionary actually downgrades your from 1.18 to it's hacked 1.17, so upgrading to 1.18 is useless.
Also, why do you want 1.18 since you won't actually benifit/experience anything from it?

So in conclusion there is no way of updating to 1.18 HBOOT (hacked of course).

Again, why flash a newer bootloader if there is NOTHING to gain from it, risking the possibility of hard bricking your phone, and with pointless "fixes" that are only to undo what revolutionary did?
Its jot an update in any way, shape, or form, and increases your possibility of a hard brick for zero gain.

Advantages of HBOOT upgrade

Hi,
I rooted my phone after a downgrade recently. I have a few questions
1) What are the advantages of upgrading the hboot from 0.98.2000(unlocked via revolutionary) to 2.00.2002 using this?
2) What are the advantages of upgrading to the latest radio? I am referring to this one? is it recommended to do so?
I would not recommend upgrading to a higher h-boot. It will just make life difficult, if anything. Also, I would only upgrade the radio if you're experiencing any signal issues our anything. Otherwise you won't notice a difference.
You might want to look into an eng-hboot though. It can be overwritten for warranty purposes
Sent from my Desire Saga using xda premium
Under what situations should we consider to upgrade to eng-hboot?
Swyped from a primed Desire S
Well if something were to go wrong with the phone, you could flash a RUU and it would overwrite the H-BOOT to a stock one. So it's good for warranty purposes. There are also other advantages to it, can't remember off the top of my head though.
It's not necessary to have, but I think it's nice to have. Don't forget though, there are risks with flashing a H-BOOT.
Risks would mean bricking I suppose...
So from what I understand
1. Upgrading to stock hboot is never recommended
2. We could upgrade to eng hboot, which will have an advantage in case of warranty issues, but rings the risk of bricking.
My warranty expires in May this year.
I will look up for more advantages of an eng hboot.

Yes, but many have done it, including myself. I wouldn't say upgrading h-boot is never recommended, just not on this device. With some devices there are advantages.
The process of flashing the H-BOOT is fairly simple and it's just your usual risks that you get when you're doing anything to your phone.
But like i said before, it's not absolutely necessary to have.

You can use this method via adb:
1. Put the hboot.img you want to flash in the root of the sdcard.
2. In cmd run the following commands (after each command press enter):
adb devices
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/backup.img
dd if=/sdcard/hboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18

Actually, as IT mentioned, I think I'm wrong about flashing. I believe s-off removes all flashing restrictions. Downgrading is no longer necessary.
It's the fun stuff that will take some time.

What can we expect now that we have s-off? Or rather, what would YOU like to see. I'm curious what the typical One X user wish list would be?
Also, I saw you post in the boot animations thread. Did you get it to work? Which animation did you pick?
i still haven't ran the s-off exploit yet. i also slept over 30 hours and missed the release. i was going to wait to run it until some hacks came out that use s-off but i guess not having to fastboot boot.img is good enough. ill run it in abit seems super easy, looks like basically a hacked up ruu =) i guess that is why it is called facepalm.
I see the ruu contains a radio does it cause any problems with at&t?

Interesting. S-Off means the radio is fully flashable (even for those on hboot 1.14). So I would think you can just flash another radio, if there are any issues.

The ruu doesn't actually install. It would need to run that a few times to fully install it. Basically we are telling the phone we are going to RUU, which in HTC's stupidity, unlocks the emmc partitions to be writable. Then the RUU fails when it finds superCID. So we cancel out of the ruu status, but the emmc partitions are still unlocked, and we turn the security flash off with soffbin3. And ya, that's why it's called facepalm

Seems like those running 1.14 are pretty rare around these parts...or maybe just quiet.
Edit: Restore was to AOSPA 2.54 (JB 4.1.2).

I am currently busy so you'll have to check through the folder and see if any of the s-off partition folders have eng hboot. I know I had it at one point but don't remember if I put it in my archive. Let me know if you don't find it and I'll search for it later on through the rest of my files.

[Firmware] 3.18.709.2 red-warning removed plus TRWP

For those of you who want to try the new 3.18.709.2 firmware.
Here is a custom package I made, containing all the 3.18.709.2 files but recovery
is changed for TRWP recovery 2.6.3.0
Also the RED WARNING from the Hboot is removed!
I am running this firmware at the moment, and everything is fine!
Check screenshot for information of the new Radio, enjoy!
Warning:
The boot.img from 3.18.709.2 doesn't like the 3.17 ROM's at the moment, so Camera won't work!
You can fix it by flashing Elemental or Bulletproof or the stock boot.img from 3.17.
If you flashed the firmware package first and after that you flashed a 3.17 ROM you won't have this problem
removed
Flashed it all OK thanks for sharing mate.

flashing firmware will not put you back to s-on. At least none have to this point.
.....never mind I am not new at this I know what soff is what hboot is. I am just saying if someone just so happened to flash this in fastboot, then son they will brick. But maybe I am wrong

If you're S-On then the device won't let you flash this. No harm can be done.

That's a general issue with custom hboot, discussed already here.
BTW, if you got S-Off with revone you should update to v0.2.1 that prevents exactly this:
UPDATED revone binary (v0.2.1)
* Safety update: No longer allows -s 3 since this can lead to bricks with custom HBOOTs, use: fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 (which is safer - and checks such things)
* Fix: delusions of grandeur - revone now no longer reports success when it fails.
* Outside chance some previous failures will now be successful but most likely they will just correctly report failure.
Please note that due to the safety update ALL previous versions have been replaced with v0.2.1 and are hence no longer supported.

I removed boot.img from your zip file as well as recovery.img, that's why I have no issues with the camera.
