JellyTime CM10 Saga R16.0 issue - HTC Desire S

Hi everyone,
@moderators/ops
Wanted to post in the development section, but since I'm new on the forum, I couldn't. If this is a wrong section, please feel free to move it. Mainly I registered only for posting those issues. Thanks.
@anybody else, specially the developer
It's been a few weeks since I am keep reading all the threads about changing the ROM of my Desire S, finally I've got an idea on the whole process, and I successfully tried a few custom ROMs. Yours, JellyTime CM10 Saga R16.0, seems to be the fastest one around, no doubt.
In the BUGS section you mention the camera and sound issues, but I am facing others.
First of all, and mainly, the signal. Is good, but keeps me in Roaming mode. Needless to say what that means. With none other ROMs I faced this, so could be, or not, a bug. Have to mention tho, that some other ROMs wouldn't register on the network at all, or much after turned on the device (like 10min+). My operator is LycaMobile (virtual operator), if that helps. Of course I did a full wipe+Darvik wipe before I flashed the ROM. Since in Roaming, I did not tried using the mobile network/tethering, so I don't know yet if they works or not.
The second, also important issue, is the SIM card. The phone did not found, and couldn't import any contacts from the SIM, saying that it's empty, while obviously is not.
Did not found any post related to these problems, if there is any, please forgive me, I'm also human.
So is there anything I could do about these, or it's up to you?

One main and basic question: did you flash the boot.img file from the ROM through the Command Prompt while your device is in the Fastboot mode?

Yes I did, otherwise it wouldn't boot at all.

Not necessarily true. The result of not doing so all depends on what ROM you had before and what ROM you have now. Often the phone boots fine, but the Wireless or some other hardware will misbehave.

Sorry, my bad. Let me rephrase. In my case, I tried to flash the ROM only and boot, without flashing the kernel (boot.img) separately, but it was stuck in the welcome screen (the one after the HTC logo). So I did flashed the boot.img, and it started fine. I know what you mean, and again, my bad, I forgot to mention that I was changing from the stock ICS ROM, so different base. Hope this helps.

Well, then try to flash the latest radio

Good point! As soon as I get home I will, and will update my post. Thank you!
Edit:
I was wondering, since I updated once with the official ICS RUU (RUU_SAGA_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_14.01.401.2_Radio_20.76.30.0835_3831.19.00.110_release_275068_signed), I did noticed that the radio version has been updated as well, wouldn't make sense that I do have already the latest one? What do you think?
Edit II:
According to this thread, I have the latest one.. One note, tho. Currently I am on Virtuous Saga v.1.0.0 [3.04.401.1][Sense 3.6 Android 4.0.4], and reading the whole thread, I was thinking if actually I would change the radio, but instead of updating, downgrading to the one that blindndumb uses (RADIO-3831.17.00.16_M), would solve or not the roaming thing.. Hmmm...
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app

Ok. After testing and trying and reading more, I found out that this is a common problem. Some other ROM's behaving the same way, and I figured out why. My mobile carrier is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). As this thread offers a workaround, I did not tried it yet. Anyway, this blog explains why this happens. So setting the Data roaming option on solves this issue, tho the R (as in roaming) does not disappear.
Still, persists the other issue, with the SIM card. As an addition, the latest PACman ROM behaves the same way in both cases (Data and SIM), so I guess is a JB related thing.
I just wanted to let you know those, maybe it could come handy to someone.
Waiting for a fix for the SIM card issue.
Best regards,
Andrew.

Do not post a new thread!!!! DISAPPEARING POSTS!

Do NOT post a new thread without reading this first! Very important! Your post may vanish!
I've about had it! I move countless new posts each day to the General catagory!
I want to make one thing clear, if you are not developing or at least helping in the development of a rom, hack, script, driver or anything similar you probably should not post in development.
de·vel·op·ment   [dih-vel-uhp-muhnt]
–noun
1.
the act or process of developing; growth; progress: child development; economic development.
2.
a significant consequence or event: recent developments in the field of science.
3.
a developed state or form: Drama reached its highest development in the plays of Shakespeare.
4.
Music . the part of a movement or composition in which a theme or themes are developed.
5.
a large group of private houses or of apartment houses, often of similar design, constructed as a unified community, esp. by a real-estate developer or government organization.
6.
Chess . the act or process of developing chess pieces.
7.
Mining . the work of digging openings, as tunnels, raises, and winzes, to give access to new workings, and of erecting necessary structures.

So since we aren't BP workers sitting around playing chess while listening to Mozart or watching Hamlet. And we're sure as hell not teachers trying to show children how to do constructions (although I can use it as a metaphore) I'm going to go out on a limb and say that #2 applies.
So unless you can create "a significant consequence or event" other than your own device then you should not post in development.
Do you have a [Q] Question?
Maybe, just maybe it might belong in the general Q&A section.
That would be this:
myTouch 3G, Magic General
Discussion about the T-Mobile myTouch 3G, HTC Magic (general Q&A, tips & tricks)
So here's the deal... for the next two weeks until further notice I am going to be very strict.
If I see a post that should not be in the development section, I will remove it completely. I won't move it, I won't warn anybody. It'll just be gone.
A few days ago I had to go and move 14 (that's fourteen) posts all at once. That's a little out of hand. These were obvious Q&A like:
What rom is the best?
What is _________ app from ________ picture?
How do I setup swap?
What is compcache?
How do I setup adb?
Why is my recovery not working?
How do I flash a new recovery?
Help me flash a new radio?
etc, etc, etc.
(These were only examples since I don't want to single anyone out.)
These are NOT development related.
Now if you made a script or an app of some kind that made these questions easier for the user then it would be development. Get it? Good! Because I'm not repeating it!
Final warning to all members!
And this goes hand in hand with this warning here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545005
Also... if you break this rule... you can find your post in two places in the trash.
First place will be in the trash.
Second place will be in this locked thread as an example of what NOT to post in the Development section.
You have been warned!

Can someone point me to the link where i can download the TMO 1.6 Stock ROM ? want to revert back to original state.
Another option I was considering was to flash CM6.0.0-RC2 using ROM manager. not sure if I should go ahead .

CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.26I

ROM: CM6RC3
Recovery: Amon_Ra
Goal: Flash 2.22.23.02 radio onto my phone.
Issues: I have a "perfected" SPL on my phone, 1.33.0006. This means that I cannot use fastboot to flash my radio (I get the "remote: not allow" error).
Main questions:
Can I simply rename the radio file I downloaded (forum.cyanogenmod.c om/files/file/50-magic-radio-2-22-23-02zip/) to "update.zip" and flash the radio using recovery mode?
Do I need to then immediately flash a new ROM (preferably Cyanogen 6 RC3) right after flashing the radio, because flashing the radio requires a ROM flash right afterward (read that somewhere).
If the above steps are correct, do I need to do a full phone wipe? Or just cache and dalvik-cache?
Do I need to worry about compatibility between radio and ROM version? Or radio and SPL version?
OR do I need to first flash the SPL to something like 1.33.2010 (a custom, non-perfected SPL)? If so, do I follow a procedure similar to this: (forum.xda-developers.c om/showpost.php?p=5304579&postcount=4) ? I assume this SPL would allow me to use fastboot to flash the radio (negating the need to flash radio via recovery).
Just want to upgrade the radio to (supposedly) get better reception. And yes, this is a USA MT3G (1st version). Would prefer not to create a goldcard and all that jazz (which I haven't done before).
THANK YOU!

Hi!
I have a HTC magic 32B black rooted.
When I passed to froyo from eclair (with superE), my phone started to give me a lot of problems.
Is impossible to connect it to a wi-fi modem. IT START TO REBOOT IN LOOP and the only solution is remove battery... and change ROM (with a Eclair based).
In particular, when I install for example, a new froyo ROM like superfroyo 2.8.2, at the first connection with WPA2 protected network, my phone, after the typing of password, start reboot in loop. At every restart is impossible to switch off wi-fi.
Same problem with the connection at 3G network...
With Eclair there isn't problem.
Am I the only one with this problem?
What can I do for to have froyo without problems in my magic?

[Q] HBOOT update PU fail - recovery wont work from 'outside'

I have been flashing for a while, and although not a pro by any means, I'm not a noobie either. I've looked for similar issues from others and have yet to find one that addresses this point specifically: I downloaded and attempted to utilize the PG58IMG.ZIP and repeatedly get the PU Fail. I saw another post relating to the issue being when you either accidentally or purposely try to flash it MORE THAN ONCE. I believe this is the mistake I made ( I was dumb enough to flash while riding in a car ). The issue is this: If I try to enter recovery from the 'outside' ; i.e. a completely turned off phone, with vol and on/off, I cannot use recovery. It will repeatedly make me go through the process of trying and failing to install this over and over. So, am I screwed? To tell the truth, I have no other issues with the phone, running ARHD 3.6.9, 4.1.9, or 5.0.2 as well as RCmix 3.5 v10 or ICS. BUt, if something happens to keep me from accessing recovery from within 4EXT, I will have a real problem. Now, I've seen the new RUU posting for ICS and would like to try it. Will this fix my problem? Is updating my HBOOT the answer? Is there any other way that I'm not thinking of? I don't often start threads with questions becuase I'm willing to find the answer through searching, but haven't found any direct answers to this particular part of the problem. Any help would be appreciated...

I don't believe I do. Tried accomplishing that this morning, but permission denied. I flash many ROMs and add-ons, but have only flashed the original RUU to S-off and root.
Just to update, I activated the superCID from my laptop, no problems. Went with the new ICS RUU, and so far everything is sweet! Going to re-flash my ARHD 5.0.2 and then see what I have.
Well, ICS RUU, re-rooted, clockworkmod re-installed, busybox, and 4EXT. Flashed my ARHD 5.0.2 restore, and now I'm running HBOOT 1.20, Android 4.0.1, and it's all very smooth. Impressed! Apparently, if you get an update fail on your HBOOT, you can solve it by going to the next level, so to speak. Anyone out there have any viable suggestions on how to 'recover' their recovery without having to resort to this, I'm sure it would be good information to have. Otherwise, case closed!

Tried both with no success. Even thought about downgrading to utilize an older HBOOT like some recommended. Decided if I had to go 'up' or 'down', I'd rather go up. Glad it worked out well. I saw some had a serious problem with other recent releases. Mike1986 is at the top of his game, so I'm grateful! Long Live ARHD! Just to be fair, RCMix does great work as well, its just an apples and oranges thing I guess. (No disrespect to any other developers, these are the only ones I've used )
UPDATE: The ROM itself is good and obviously has great potential, but I am having quite a few issues. It was suggested that System Tuner Pro would force open CPU 2 and give a boost, but it would not view my system as rooted, even after re-boots and permission fixes. 4EXT would freeze and FC in any operation, as would SD Speed Increase, Set CPU, and even Superuser. Font Installer didn't freeze the way some complained it did, but for me it would go through the required re-boot and have no change. Tried to backup with Clockworkmod (since 4EXT was failing), and the backup failed. SOooooo, in my opinion, it is good at this point for a daily user if you do JUST THAT, use it for common daily functions. But, for me at least, anything having to do with increasing performance or customization creates a problem. Not the end of the world, except that I'm a customization junkie, so its a bit of a deal breaker for me. One thing, a lot of people complained of wallpaper issues and failures; the DIY ownskin I was using had no issues. Then again, the wallpaper for the lockscreen DID fail. Oh well.... I know it'll get better. Restoring back for a while ....Mike 1986, RCMix, and all other hard working devs, keep up the good work, Getting better every day...

[Q] [email protected] after flashing icsVirtous-quattr0ob/w sense4 kernelbased ROMs

hi,
i need some help,i wouldn't ask for,if trying myself, searching the web/forum/thread,and even reading any ****in manual concerning simular problems would have brought me more close to a solution.
my systemconf.is: hboot 6.98...,radio 20.4801,s-off revolutianary.
my problem is,that i am not able to boot flashed ics roms containing a virtous/quattro related desireS-kernel.
all the cm9/icecoldsandwich variants don't make any problem.
i know, this is a stupidnoobish-question, but are u doing something not obvious(or even obvious-but obviously not for me[surley not talkin bout wiping, clearing and all that standard-procedure]), or somehow special in order to get this stuff working. i wouldn't ask,but i didn't found no answer anywhere or even simular reports by other user (apart from one small[so small I even couldn't find it again to link to] entry concerning this issue in the thread for the aosp ics custom rom by team virtous, but without a solution)
i'd thankful for every advice, solution or idea to join the sense4.0party.

am i the only one suffering from that?
oh,oh...i begin loosin all hope to find anyone, who knows my problem, and by far not who is able to help me out.
i think, it is related to the fact, that the several charges of manufactured desire s' have different security-whatevers that prevent a to wilderly oc'ed & uv'ed cpu. so if the bootloader detects not 'allowed' scaling range, it simply not boots. i constructed this suspicion from very few snippets of information i could find about this issue.
am i the only one suffering from that?
just post that u are there even without a solution!
let us try together.
may be, we are able(i think we should, äh?) to modify the existing kernel files or skripts that are responsable for that.

Did you find a solution in the meantime perhaps?

I assume you are htcdev unlocked, and forgot to flash the boot.img separately from fastboot..? If so, Google it. The solution is really easy. You just need to extract boot.img from the ROM zip and flash it using fastboot command
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Sent from an HTC device soon to be replaced by a Samsung. Suck on that HTC.
enigmaamit is probably wrong because you mentioned you are s-off via revolutionary tool.
my sugestion is to instal the ENG HBOOT from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236890 you need to follow the instructions from chapter 1 in the first post of the thread (the one for 6.xx.xxxx hboot version)
to my understanding the post 2.3.5 sense 3.0 roms require the hboot i have mantioned above
good luck and hope this fixes your issue

[Q] Help, flashing radio image, limited service/no network signal

My desire S started getting network signals just out of the blue, as far as I know I didn’t do any updates. Here is the infor ;

Phone was already S-OFF, I think it was done by the repair guys when I last sent for repairs ( was stuck on HTC boot logo that time).I don't know what the original ROM was.
The wifi and everything else works fine, but I keep losing the mobile network signal randomly. Sometimes it just drops and shows “limited service”.
I updated to this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13153360) using ROM manager thinking it will fix the problem. The ROM updated fine but the signal problem was still there.
This is the software information now.

I then tried to update the radio as per this guide (http://saga-lbc-mod.de/htc-desire-s/how-to/flash-radio-image/).
But I got CID incorrect!
I then tried to use fastboot commander (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193915) to flash the radio , but it didn’t work either.
Please help , is this a hardware problem ? Thanks in advance
Sounds like two separate issues,
Firstly the signal issue
Remove your plastic battery cover, but leave in your battery, check the metal contacts inside the cover as they are used for phone signal
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
thanks for the quick reply
I checked the contacts , they look fine apart from being a bit scratched , but i expect that's normal due to the contacts.
If it helps sometimes i find that if i move from one place to another ( like when i go to a friends place ) i get the signal back , but it drops and goes entirely in a little while.
Restarting the phone , putting it in airplane mode , sometimes works but most of the time it doesn't.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190347&page=4
I just read the above thread , some people with similar issues , apparently updating the radio seems to help , though I don't know how to do it with my phone. Any ideas ?
You are using a very old choice of ROM (even though the best one from that time), from a build where issues were experienced. Think I posted about myself once ago.
What recovery do you have? Would also ask which country are you in?
Which country Did you buy phone in and was it networked locked?
I'd suggest that you first update your bootloader to the ENG version, instructions should be found in the INDEX on how to do this (see my signature).
You could then try the much newer and more stable ROM that I'm on and even move to the same radio as me, so move to a tried and tested combination, links in my signature for both. Care should be taken when flashing, especially radio, always check md5 sum for files downloaded, if you don't understand google
Couple of obvious but stupid questions, could this be caused by your phone network having issues or simply bad signal where you live?
Info:
CID, stands for "Carrier IDentification" and it's a little number that restricts which software can be installed on a phone.
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
Bought the phone from Malaysia , it wasn't network locked then, am using it in Maldives. The signal is fine , I checked my SIM on another phone at the same area.
I have 4EXT recovery updater , I think it came with the ROM I updated to. I ll have a go tonight with the ENG bootloader and see what happens.
thanks
Had a go with updating Hboot .
Followed this guide , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18122984&postcount=237
I got an error /sbin/sh: su: not found , I've attached a screenshot for reference ,
I am using 4EXT as recovery
Is there any other way ?
This seems to suggest that you are not rooted?
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
I installed terminal emulator and checked , i get "#" when i typed "su" command.
Is it because i have superuser , cos it asks every time i go for root access ?

that would suggest that you are successfully rooted
you must say yes, each time you are prompted by su
I would suggest that you run su and clear all existing entries/logs and then try again

updated the Hboot and the radio as well. , but i still have limited services ,
I have a feeling that this is a hardware problem , just a bit weird that WIFI and everything else should be working fine , just that I am not getting the mobile network signal.
I am gonna try and update the rom and kernel tonight and see where it goes
After heaps of reading , got the rom and everything installed. Its all working perfectly except for I still don't get my mobile signal . Ah just wish it would fix itself , i just discovered the power of android . Anything else i can do ?

O dear, so it sounds like it must be a hardware issue? possibly time to revert to stock (although if they made it S-OFF you might not even need to do this) and take it back to see if they'll fix it under warranty? I'd send it to the same place it went last time.
yeah , just saving all my content , I am going to send it tomorrow and see . I am still looking up some radios , hoping it might work though i doubt it.
Anyways thanks heaps for the help , will update when i get my phone back

Take a new Nandroid keeping the SD card and then perform a factory data reset before sending the phone back.
As far as radios, what you need is someone in the same country and on the same network as you to recommend one.

[Q] tried many things, now need help for daughters phone

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to get a 'stable' rom for a phone I've given to my daughter (Evita / Telstra one XL).
I've tried a heap of things, tried to s-off, change radio files etc... Anyway, current status is that it's been unlocked, s-on, and I have twrp.. I'm using KickDroid XL v4.0.0 ROM, looks great, but the phone keeps on rebooting... Also loosing 3G signal, so have to reboot it quite a few times a day to resolve. (tired another rom, same problem, loss of 3g signal and multiple reboots during the day)
I'm sure it's got to do with the radio file, but can't seem to fix that. I've read 'so much!' information, but really confused now. I've tried to supercid it, unsuccessfully, tried to find the all-in-one toolking (bt it looks like its been removed)..
So, this is what I have when I boot it:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
EVITA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.11.0000
RADIO-0.23a.32.09.29
OpenDSP-v28.1.0.32.0504
eMMC-boot
Jun 7 2012,13:10:34
TWRP recovery
2.6.3.0
htc one xl
Evita
Any help in how to (or if I should) get the radio/hboot up to hopefully resolve the loss of 3G?
I'm no expert, but not that dumb either. I follow instructions from the start, but most of the time it gets stuck half way (ie, when doing supercid, boots to the HTC logo, but won't go any further)..
Any help really appreciated.
The problem is not that the ROM is unstable, the ROM is perfectly stable if you meet the requirements. The problem is your current firmware version. You need to update to the 2.15 firmware package. It does state that very clearly in the "You Need" section in the beginning of the Kickdroid thread. Please search/research properly before posting in future, it's part of the XDA rules. This issue has been discussed extensively in every single Sense 5 ROM thread, plus this is probably the 100th thread like this in our Q&A section.

Why are you even giving your daughter a rooted/modded phone at all? Unless she has an understanding of what root means, its not a good idea. Does she even need anything except a bone stock phone?
thanks timmaaa, I appreciate you taking the time out to reply.
I'll do some more checking on firmware 2.15... I've honestly read about 5 hours last weekend on various threads... some lead to dead ends (it toolbox), some I can't get to work (supercid)... I tried this a couple of months ago, and almost bricked it, but managed to get twrp working...
Redpoint73, are you asking why give her a phone, or why a rooted phone? The answer to the first one is that she is 11, and catches the bus to and from school. The phone is used in an emergency. I've rooted it to give her some new features, and because it was locked with Telstra and that is not the carrier we are using anymore (much cheaper options here than Telstra), so I needed to get rid of the firmware...
Overall, I appreciate any help. I actually run 5 forums (car related), and I fully understand noob's coming on and asking the same question week after week. Our forums have a lot less posts than this one (< 200,000), but we still have members, week in-week out, answering the same questions because they like to help, and because sometimes there is too much information out there to sift through, especially when somebody is willing to point you in the right direction with a friendly smile
duplicate post, (sorry, hit save twice!)

Its pretty clear from my post that it was root/mod that I was referring to. Root has nothing to do with Subsidy (SIM) Lock, and the firmware has little to do with the carrier you are on (I've been using the German T-Mobile stock ROM for a while now, despite being on AT&T).
Of course its up to you to decide what you do with the phone. But you should consider (if you haven't already) the security risk of giving a rooted device to a user that knows little or nothing about such things. Even more so for s-off, which is necessary for the solution that timmaaa suggested.
My question has less to do with exactly "who" the phone is for. But more to the point, when people come on here saying they are modding the phone for "someone else" (be it mom, third cousin, or whatever), if that person isn't doing it for themselves, its pretty questionable whether they need such mods at all.
ok, thanks redpoint73..
I understand where you are coming from, and appreciate your comments.
Now, anybody else like to point me in the right direction (to a link to get the latest firmware, or a compatible one working)?

You serious? timmaaa already told you where to find it.
Since I'm feeling charitable right now, here it is, complete with step-by-step instructions (only need to follow Posts #2 and 4): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485865
The original thread where Turge posted his firmware package (see under "OPTIONAL", s-off is required before doing this): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45072132&postcount=1
Or just install the Beastmode kernel (S-off not required): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2165880
thanks mate. I appreciate the charity, I really do I'm trying not to be a nob.. I'm actually having another go this morning... I've got win 8.1 (yeah, I know) so trying to get the latest driver to work is a pain.... Just trying x_factory windows, backups up twice, but then doesn't run the next command (to change CID)...
Anyway, thanks again. I'll persist on...
