What's meant by a full wipe? - HTC Sensation

Hi.
I'm very new to flashing roms and such. I managed to get my Xe to the state I can flash roms and was hoping to flash CM10. The guide says I must perform a 'full wipe' but depending where I read I get different answers. I'm currently running 4.0.3 stock.
Could some one list how this would be done using Ext4 recovery touch. Thanks

I shall reboot into recovery now and check for you.
Full wipe generally means format everything except SD card

First page you want Wipe / Format
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then the second to bottom option,
Press ok and it will perform a full wipe

Odd, the images are really low quality even though in galary they are full quality, any way, the instructions should help

Cheers mate I'll give it a go later. Thanks for your help.

When I use 4ext a full wipe is wipe cash, wipe dalvik cash, wipe data factory reset, then install Rom. Make sure and always do a nandroid backup before any installation incase you get in a pinch you can restore your old Rom.

Help please help!

I normally am a knowledgeable Guy, and don't normally ask for help, but here I am, asking for help.
Today, I rooted my phone and put miui on it, from there I decided to go to WeaponG2x and here's what I get when I boot into CWM.

Did you wipe data/ factory reset, wipe cache and dalv. before flashing rom? Did you do a back up before any of that? I would try restoring backup first (if you have one).

i would suggest clear cache and factory reset then reload the zip/rom.
People need to be reminded of this thread below. If you are switching between different roms you must wipe, wipe, wipe everything or you will have boot issues.

Once you get those errors its time you nvflash rom for recovery in dev section. Luckily our devices are damn near unbrickable with that resource, I remember hearing some horror stories about this recovery errror back on the mt4g section,unfortunately that phone doesn't have the same saving Tom 4 recovery thru nvflash as our phones do!

Thanks for the help guys. Yes I did wipe everything before flashing anything. It didn't let me do anything, couldn't wipe anything, couldn't restore any backups of mine.
I found out that my SD card fried and I couldn't format it.

Can't install ANY rom.

I am on 4.0.0.9 and every single rom I try to install, I get stuck on this screen:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I have tried clearing the cache and wiping the data before installing the roms, I have tried 3 so far and have tried redownloading all of them.
I have tried reflashing CWM, I have exhausted all means that I know of. I was running tasteless venom just fine until I decided to try flashing a newer rom, and it has been hanging here for hours without any signs of booting.
I'm stumped, any ideas?
I get this too occasionally, all my nandroids do this. Let me tell you how fun it is to have to re-set up the entire phone after each different ROM I flash.

Did you clear the system partition in mounts and storage before flashing a new rom?
Did you flash the correct kernel? Did you flash any kernel at all?
Well this is an easy fix. Get the official cwm. I'm surprised no1 told you yet. The real cwm is 5.0.2.7 I think. Update with rom manager to the latest recovery
Sent from my ICS Splashed using Tapatalk
i haven't had any problem at all flashing ROMs with that version of CWM. plus, if you can't boot into any ROM you won't be able to use Rom Manager.
i might suggest checking that your system is mounted both before flashing the ROM, and before rebooting. i believe that would be found in 'Mounts and Storage' in recovery, and you would want it to say 'unmount' next to system, meaning that it is mounted. in some cases when you need to do that, you will have the problem you're having if you forget to check. good luck
Learn how to use adb to install the latest official cmw and you will unbrick your phone.

Hi,
A kernel is like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Place the kernel on the root of your sd card,
Make a nandroid backup,
Wipe your cache and dalvik,
Flash kernel like a ROM.
You should do Lil research dude use the search key it is the heart if Android there is a lot if info out there but it depends in your room and if you want to overclock

I'm also not entirely clear on this neither despite looking arnd the noob section.
But do I have to flash the kernel seperately from the custom Rom? Does it not have it included in the Rom package?

Hi,
A custom ROM will have a kernel included.
This can be changed anytime after you have installed the ROM.

Assuming 4ext recovery is also installed .If not download from HERE
Then connect phone to pc , goto bootloader and flash recovery using fastboot command .. " fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.9-pyramid.img " without quotes
Then just download the rom paste it in sd card , goto recovery
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache/dalvik
format all partitions except sdcard
and flash the rom.zip

edit: if the mods can move this thread it is in the wrong section

As far as I know, that's a superbrick on the MMC for /data. If you want to get around the newfound hardware damage, you'll need the SD-EXT boot mod that's modified for a damaged internal partition.
probably is what Harakhti said
if you used any wipe option from twrp then you have the false twrp
Thanks the boot mod finally got me to flash a Rom but now when the phone is booting it restarts
