If you root your GNote 10.1 and then decide you want to put it back to factory setting can you go into settings and use the Factory Data Reset to put the GNote 10.1 back to the way it was when purchased?
If I remember correctly, you have to flash the stock rom (can be found on this forum), then flash the stock recover and reset the binary counter (if your root tripped it) to remove any traces of the device being rooted.
Just make sure to run triangle away BEFORE you remove root...

Haha, yea, I didn't notice that I wrote "flash the stock recover" before clearing the binary counter .

Sorry can't post full link yet
To make a long story short, I wanted to receive the Verizon ota update so it would go away. I found the firmware update for rooted galaxy s3 I535 and flashed it. After I rebooted it did the yellow triangle and said software not allowed by Verizon.
Assuming it was a soft brick, I downloaded the Verizon galaxy s3 stock Rom software ,flashed and cleared data sync cache.
It rebooted but still showed open lock and said custom ( not sure what that means) since I set it back to factory out the box format.
After it booted I placed in usb debuging and flashed the stock root software which included su and adb.
It restarted the phone normal with superuser.
As I was downloading the busybody, Rom manager, titanium backup, apps
Verizon downloaded the new ota update and went into there flashing mode. It finished update and restarted.
But now I can not gain root permission to flash cwr Rom to recover phone. This is where I need help please
I will try to update with file names when I get home tonight.
What is wrong?
And last question after I get permission, can I go back to recovery send use my last back up and recover all my apps, data and user files with out going back to before ota update.
it showed the custom unlock because your rooted. ota breaks root and yes you can restore your backup. although you will be prompted for the OTA again. I would advance restore data and not your full backup.

I believe I used the stock root I'll have to see when I get home. But that ringes a bell. I know I used the stock then flashed a stock root to regain root. It said su and adb was with it. It's the one in a YouTube video. But I stoped at min 3:30 bc I have Rom manager to flash cwm
Should I Just try another root or do you have unroot. First then flash another. Usually I run into issues like this.
The other question is should I upgrade to jelly bean

Hi,
I'm thinking about rooting my Note 10.1 (mostly because I want to use DicertoryBind/Link2SD) via ClockworkMod Recovery.
My questions:
I won't receive any OTA updates, cause the status will be custom, right?
I want to stay on stock FW, what can I do to update my tablet if there is a new OTA:
Can I directly flash the FW from sammobile with odin or are they not campatible with cwm? Would that mean that every time there is a new OTA, I have to unroot, flash back to stock recovery, get the OTA, flash back cwm and root again?
Isn't there a way to flash the update while keeping all my data (just like normal OTA does) and root ?
Thanks!

You can flash using ODIN, but you will need to re root the device, also chances are you will not lose data but in rare cases you will need to do a factory reset which will mean you lose all your data.

Above answer should answer this also but you will need to re-root the device
Thanks!

Okay, that means I download the firmware from for instance sammobile, flash it using ODIN (will that be PDA only, like flashing cwm?), and then re root means install superSU again from cwm or installing cwm completely new?
*edit* Thanks for the sticky!
Yes you can use this post to know how to install using odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080366
You do not require CWM to root you can use the exynos patch apk to root you can download the apk from here

Hey, thanks so far, I just installed CWM, everything went fine, but if I look at the system status it still says "offical", does that mean I can receive OTA's? Or won't that work cause of CWM?
Also I believe before it didn't say "official" but "normal".
*edit* okay, nevermind, after a reboot it sys now "custom"
Since you have rooted your device you can also use Mobile ODIN to flash the roms from sammfirmware directly on your note 10.1. You just make sure everroot is ticked but if you think you might loose root then have both the CWM.tar file saved on your device, its a tiny file so no real space lost or if you don't care about CWM but want root access then keep the exynosexploit.apk on your device. I have everything I need on the sd card in case I cant get to a PC. Much better when I'm not tied to the PC...

Thanks so far, but theres one question left: From what you've said I think it's possible to flash with odin or mobile odin while CWM is still installed, what will happen to CWM after the flash? Is it completely gone (stock recovery comes with the firmware?!) or does "re root" only mean that I have to reinstall superSU with CWM?
You will go back to stock recovery but you might retain root if you ticked everoot function....
As I said earlier, you can reflash CWM onto your Note using mobile ODIN if you have the CWM.tar file stored on your device...
+1 for Mobile Odin if you're wanting to stay stock.
Use Exynos Abuse to root the first time.
Install Mobile Odin pro.
Backup your EFS partition off the device.
Install CWM using Mobile Odin and make a nandroid backup.
Back up apps with Titanium if required.
Download the new stock from you want and use Mobile Odin to install with Everoot selected.
Use Mobile Odin to install CWM.
Simplest method I've found by far.

After rooting with exynos abuse root, can you just do a factory reset to make you stock again to get OTA's?
I don't believe so (prepared to be corrected) but if you reinstall the stock rom without Everoot ticked and factory reset you'll be back to stock unmodified.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Never tried but I don't think so, The OTA checks for an unmodified system and even though stock recovery says its official the status in settings is "Custom".
What if I'm on the stock rom (never went custom) and stock recovery. All I did was root? Would a recovery restore allow me to get OTA's?
if you are on stock recovery then why would you restore recovery.
Yes if you are rooted only you will receive OTA if you are on the orignal rom (rom from country which note was purchased irrespective of the version you are on)

That is my situation, exactly. So, I can take OTAs in my present situation? I used #2 root option from zedomax. I haven't changed anything or used a custom rom. All I want to do is get current on my updates, and retain root and CWM.
Should I also use TriangleAway, and at what point? Thank you.
Apologies to the OP, but I've been waiting for a chance to resolve this.
If you used method 2 you have replaced the stock recovery... That's what CWM recovery means...
You're flash counter will now be one and need to be reset using triangle away. No OTA for you...

Hi everyone,
Now I know I'm not alone on this because I've seen quite a few other questions about this and I haven't really seen any straight forward answers about this same problem.
Anyways I own the N8013 and like many I couldn't wait for the US version of 4.1 so I flashed the german n8010 version. No problems there, Ive been using it fine. However I always intended to go back to stock, and for the most part I have. I got back on the n8013 ics, reset the flash counter and all that so I am no longer custom and it says I haven't flashed anything. Downloaded the 4.1 OTA update, checked to make sure I wasn't rooted, I'm not, so almost everything is perfect. The only problem I have left is that SuperSU is on the device and I cant uninstall it.
Now I heard something about rooting to uninstall it but Im confused because if I root then remove it how do I unroot? Also Im worried that this will somehow affect my flash counter and official status. Anyways I'd really appreciate some help on this, I know there are others like me who could benefit from maybe a simple step by step process of getting SuperSU off and getting to unmodified, stock, unroot status. I have a physical defect with my device and even though I've heard samsung is lenient id like to not take any chances.
Again I'd really appreciate any help people have to offer, thanks for reading.
Root, run triangle away to reset counter. Go to supersu and find in settings the unroot and remove supersu setting. It will remove super su and unroot. You may need to reflash the stock recovery or stock rom again via ODIN. Stock recovery is only a few seconds, stock rom about 4 - 5 mins.... Your choice....
Should be completely stock now...

Well I already rooted and reset the counter, the problem is I can't find any setting in SuperSu to remove itself. I found the unroot which I ran but I dont know where to remove SuperSU, maybe I'm missing it? Or do I need to re root and follow these steps again? Or do I just flash stock again? Also if I flash stock through ODIN will that affect my counter? Sorry If I'm just missing it, I really appreciate your help.
Via recovery format system cache data and sd card and nothing is on the phone .
Boot to download mode and flash stock rom via Odin .

No, flashing a stock rom through ODIN won't raise flash counter..
Hi, I want to completely unroot my phone and restore it to factory settings. Recently I've been experiencing system random reboot and hang ups. I want to revert it back completely so that the warranty can still cover me if it goes down.
So from what I have searched so far, I have to reset the flash counter before I unroot, and then flash a stock version of the ROM using Odin? which will take care of the root
My question is how can I uninstall Clockwork recovery? And is it necessary to flash all the way back to the very first version of the ROM? I want to make sure it says official binary or official release channel(forgot what its called exactly) instead custom binary...
Thanks!
also, is it necessary to flash all the way back to the very first firmware and update my way back up? Or can i just flash the UVLH5 one that gave ICS?

Just flash the counter reset and then download the new UVMB1 firmware (if you want to have ICS) from samfirmware.com. Extract the tar.md5 file and flash it in ODIN (repartition will NOT check itself - I tested this today). No pit file required. Afterwards you will show reset counter as "No" and binary as "samsung official" in download mode.
I'm not for sure, but I don't remember when the last time I flashed the counter reset tool... and after flashing the UVMB1 my counter still said 'no'. Could be nothing... but I know I didn't do it today when I flashed...

so will clockwork recovery also be removed when I flash the stock firmware..?if not how should I go about removing it?
It will probably be removed when flashing the stock firmware. Try it if not then come back and ask for help.
You guys think we can use the blaze pit from Eric's thread to reroot?

Looking at the big tar from samsung-update - I would say the rooting process should not need to change in the slightest. Truth be told I rooted ICS the same way I rooted GB... gotta love Samsung
All I tend to do is:
- Turn on USB Debugging
- Open Odin 1.85
- Get phone into download mode
- Flash Shabbys CWM tar file without rebooting
- Boot into recovery mode (holding power for a while works for me, then hold vol up and down - or just battery pull, put back in battery, then hold power-vol up-vol down)
- Flash Superuser or SuperSU (latter has been my choice as of late) zip
That's what I'll be doing to the wifes phone once she gets home anyway - though she's gone until pretty late... meaning I won't get to do anything until tomorrow night most likely. I'm pretty sure someone else will beat me to it (and by all means please do), but I was thinking I would put together a full odexed bloated zip, then maybe a deodexed one w/ root sort of thing? I'll maybe take a little and try to clear out carrieriq remnants (I don't think those have been active in quite a while really) as well...
Was there anything in particular people wanted?

Indeed it has been removed! Nice. But whenever I go into download mode, it still shows Odin, I'm not sure if this will still void the warranty...? But at least the Current Binary shows samsung official, and counter shows No. So that's good.
This looks stock right? It's been so long that I forgot what the phone info page is supposed to look like...

All you need it to say in download mode is "Flash Counter : No" and "Current Binary: Samsung Official" and you're set. It will always say odin mode since that's download mode by another name.
I have a samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 gt-p5113
I tried to root it before, but got as far as flashing the recovery software ( can't find the thread I used to do this but I think it involved odin)
anyways when I flashed the recovery software the tab got stuck at the boot screen and I though it was bricked but after reflashing and restarting it a few times it worked again....needless to say I didn't have the balls to try rooting it after that.....
now when I search for software updates it says my device has been modified and cannot update ( it still is NOT rooted )
Is this because of the recovery software?...which as far as I can tell hasn't been properly installed cause I can't find any evidence of it on my tab, even when i hold down the power and volume button and the recovery software is supposed to show up.
and how do i undo it so that I can get updates? I just want the stock software back. will a factory reset do the trick?
No, the instant you attempted to install CWM, a bootloader data value changed that made your device always read as modified. There are three ways to get to Jelly Bean from where you are.
1. Root and run TriangleAway. This app will reset the bootloader counter, so you should be able to upgrade normally.
2. Install CWM via ODIN and install a custom JB-based ROM. You will need to root first if you want to keep your data via Titanium Backup.
3. ODIN a JB-based ROM for your carrier/region. Same deal as above with rooting and keeping your data.

I have this same exact problem. I have tried to un-root but nothing happned. I have tried to update via Kies and nothing happened. Should I try to root again? I just want to get the 4.2.2 update.
If you want your device's status to read "official",
1. Root your device (I prefer Chainfire autoroot)
2.a) Run triangle away, reset your bin (flash) counter. Now your bootloader will say 0 counts.
2.b) As for the device status (in about device), there's a button just under "reset" in triangle away application, tap it and reboot. Your device status will now be "official"
3. (Optional) Go to your Superuser application, tap cleanup and unroot (if available)
Now you're unrooted, and running official firmware. You can use OTA anytime.
