Onscreen.

Each to their own.

Exactly. I prefer capacitive buttons because no matter what app I use, they will always by present, but it's not a big deal. I have onscreen buttons for my tablet, and it does not affect me by much.
I just prefer to see them.

Capacitive touch led notifications

Ok so on my g2x we have a app that makes the 4 capacitive touch led buttons on the bottom a notification light.I'd there anything like that for the GS4G?

Would be good to have led notification instead of the screen notification which i feel uses more power.
too bad development seems slower for this device.

Bln (back light notification) app. it requires the correct liblight file and may also require kernel mod. You will see this soon. ;-)

Is that just the back light on screen, or keys?

Disable softkey backlighting?

Is it possible to disable the backlight for the soft keys?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
I'm pretty sure there isn't a way but don't quote me on that. My logic is because it seems the backlit keys use the screen light to actually become backlit they aren't like a separate area really.
I think they are on a separate sensor. In CM7 they would be off a lot of the time.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Yes they can be disabled.

You can try the LEDS hack (root) from the market.. I know it works on the inc, haven't tried it on the thunderbolt though I know it's not listed as "supported".. worth a shot
Could you point me in the direction I need to go?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Leds hack is a no go. Thanks though.

There are two LEDs at the bottom of the phone that light the keys. I accidentally covered them up when replacing my LCD so I have no backlight for the keys now and...I kinda like it! They aren't bleeding into the screen now too.

They can be disabled in the kernel.
You can disable them.by editing the framework also =)
App called "screen filter" has the option for it. Only lasts as long as its open though(runs in background, open in notifications). But it does work.

Ughh I've been trying to get this working for a week and no luck. Anyone have a good solid solution to disable the backlight?

Dim/Turn off backlight of capacitive buttons

Some ICS ROMs have annoying always-on backlight of the hardware capacitive buttons.
Try one of these to eliminate/dim that :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deskangel.adjbrightness
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.pruss.superdim
According to ShortbusDriver none of these work.
Can someone confirm this works - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26195948&postcount=4
No didn't work either....that would have been an awesome fix though lol
did you try to toggle auto brightness on and off ?
lights should turn off when screen is off.
No capacitive lights do go off with screen....just never go off as long as the screen is on.... for example when watching video a movie let's say....capacitive keys stay on and bright as ever
I see, it exists in CM7 as well.
Probably kernel related.

there's a bug in cm7 github for this issue,
I'm pretty sure Team Acid will take care of it.
Yes I'm sure they are on it.....I'm just looking for a way on my own.......
Just use screen filter it has the option built in

Thanks bro, this actually works, but I have to enable it after each button touch.
I put it as the app to launch when double clicking the screen on Apex launcher (currently on Erikmm's MIUI v4).

Do you guys want them off completely or a set amount of time?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
a set amount of time I think (and my idea, too)
I think it should be like 5 seconds.

Timeout please...seemed to be somewhere around 30 secs or so on stock.
edit: now that I reconsider it may have only been like 10 secs top.
I wouldn't mind if the capacitive key lights went off completely but the keys still work....which ever comes first thank you Erik

It's the same on all ICS roms that I have flashed, and I think I have tested them all
Screen filter is a quick fix...and if you enable navigation bar it works fairly well.

Keyboard LED

I think it might just be my phone but everytime i use the physical keyboard in light the led on the keyboard doesnt turn on but when i use it in the dark they turn on. Has anyone notice this?
ERrr I think the light sensor controls that. Especially if you have it to set auto.
Sent from my XT897 using xda premium
Mine does that, think it is a power saving feature. Uses the sensor by the earpiece much the same way as the auto feature with screen brightness.

It is a feature of the phone. I work for the sprint store, and our rep tried to show us that like it was an actual selling point. If you put your thumb on the sensor between the speaker and the camera the light will come on.

Not to my knowledge, at least not on the stock rom. CM7 had settings you could adjust, I imagine when CM9 hits we will see the same.

I stand corrected, thanks.

To take a screen shot, go into settings - dislplay and there should be an option saying quick launch, tap that and select screen capture.
Hope i helped.

the quick launch setting was removed in the jelly bean update. so yea use power and volume to take snapshots you need to get the timing right as you need to hit both at the same time not one then the other.
