Has anyone gotten this to work?
For this to work, att can't have the imei of our phone. This leaves out the att version sold by best buy USA.
But what about the Canada version?

If you cant pay you cant play...... Seriously if you cant afford another 10 dollars you shouldn't have bought the phone.
Ok asshole. Instead, I'm a high schooler who wants a dev phone (relying on just the sdk emulator is a *****), and has to pay for it by myself because the nexus s isn't on Verizon, which is what my parents have. I can't sign a contract for another 10 months because I'm not old enough. And I can't afford to wait until the prime, because I have work I want to finish right now.
I'm not using the medianet plan. I'm using the $50 unlimited plan. They work the same, because at&t scans for imeis of known smartphones that they sell, like the atrix. I was just wondering if the canadian nexus s worked because recently best buy USA started selling an att version.
My nexus one never worked on it (only text and calls), so I was just wondering about the s. I can get a new white one for cheap.
Edit: but seriously dude why would you come to a random person and say stuff like that? I guarantee you wouldn't say it to my face. I bet you wont even call me and say it. Why do you think you're so much better because you can sign a contract and pay extra money?
AT&T Crack Down
AT&T will eventually find out that you are using an excessive amount of data throughput via "medianet". I know there was an iPhone 2g trick that would fool AT&T into allowing the $15 plan; however the access in which your smart phone "dials out" to AT&T would expose your phone as being a smart phone. I had an N1 on AT&T and they knew the IMEI number... I bought it via Google too. AT&T has their ways...
The only thing you could do is get the NS, w/ or w/o a 2yr plan and use the DataPlus plan for $15. (If cost is an issue.)
Cost isn't the issue, its the contract. I can't sign one. I'm on an incredible s right now from Canada on the dumb phone plan with ATT and I was just wondering if the nexus would know or not. They knew about my n1 but not my inc s.

I bought one prior to it releasing on AT&T (through Best Buy mobile) and it worked fine on the $10/$15 MEdiaNet Data plan. Decided to sell it as soon as AT&T released it as their own. I've been wondering the same question lately seeing it's one of the best android phones for the price (I can get a used Rogers one for about $300 unsubsidized.) I'm currently using the Desire Z from Bell Canada on the MEdiaNet plan.
P.S. Would you be willing to sell your Incredible S for around $300?
No thanks, I'm looking for closer to 400 on it. But OK cool the nexus worked

the unlocked t-mobile version isn't seen as a smartphone by at&t and the poor soul who had the nexus one that was spotted as a smartphone, if yours had the t-mobile frequencies then you were just unlucky.
if its built with t-mobile 3g then it will only connect to the EDGE network and i don't think at&t really cares.

Thanks for chiming in 17 days late. So I'm on a high horse because I think trying to cheat a company out of 10 bucks was stupid? Are you going to support him when he comes back and asks how to download paid apps for free? Where are you going to draw the line? Everyone should just stop. I figured it all out, I'm now on straight talk for unlimited everything + 2gb data for $45 a month, and it uses AT&T towers (mvno carrier). This plan worked better, but it requires a $100 fee to start up, but I paid the price because I can't sign contracts.
I wanted to use the medianet plan because I can't sign a contract while I'm under 18. I never wanted to get free apps, or do anything like that. I've been around XDA for a bit, dabbled in devving for a few phones, and I'm pretty sure some of my threads are even stickied. I know the rules etc.
All that said, PLENTY of threads are on XDA about taking advantage of the medianet loophole. It saves $20+ a month, and data is unlimited (not available to other plans) and unthrottled. Many people have no problem sticking it to a corporation that they hate like AT&T, and IMO unlimited data should be unlimited.. smartphone or not, so I had no problem with the idea of it.

I bought a rogers nexus s (french+english text on box) and they changed my data plan
I got a white i9020a (canadian?) and they changed my dataplan from medianet to a smartphone They can't have the IME number though.. and I tethered all the time on my Nokia E71 w/ medianet so I don't think it was data usage that tipped them off.
How could they know I got an i9020a Nexus S? Maybe a heuristic like if you download from Google's market servers you're on a smartphone?

So I've been waiting for Best Buy to get the white Skyrocket before my 30 days is up but today was day 29 and they still didn't have it so i returned my SR to BB and went to my local corporate store. As usual the CSR was trying to talk to me about other products which i really wasn't interested in. Then he started telling me about U-Verse and to humor him i acted interested but told him i would "come back" if i wanted more info. He goes to the back to get the White SR comes back and says "my manager has a proposition for you. If you at least try U-Verse and sign u for it today he will give you the Skyrocket for free!!! Its no Contract, month to month and about $20 cheaper than my Comcast bill for the exact same service. He said if i don't like it i could cancel anytime, as long as o signed up today for installation in a few weeks his manager would give me the SR. So i did it! I'm not sold on Uverse but hey ill give it a try. But in the end I'm getting a free Skyrocket, and a $100 Visa card for having Uverse put in! What a deal!!! The rep proceeded to tell me that at&t is doing all they can to get new Uverse customers and that their basically giving away a bunch of free stuff to compete with dish/Comcast. Maybe this will work for someone else. Lovin the white Skyrocket

Weeks ago when I made the decision to go with the S3 I decided that I didn't want to get stuck with the oddball US version (ie T-Mobile with no LTE).
After over a decade as a T-Mobile customer I jumped ship for Verizon and ordered my shiny new S3.
Now I find that the Verizon version is the only S3 on the planet with a locked bootloader AND Verizon has made absurd changes to the UI such as a persistent ongoing wifi notification with no way to disable it. They also REMOVED the standard wifi toggle.

Yeah, I understand that but my days of traveling outside of the USA are over. I have zero plans for any international travel these days so in my case the LTE route made the most sense.
Now that the phone has root I'm around 90% sure the notification will be removed by users soon enough. The toggle still irks me but the devs are still making astounding progress. Everyone's jumping on the "we're doomed" bandwagon a bit soon, myself included. I didn't think we'd get root, but we have. I also didn't think it was even possible to get custom roms but they're making progress right now, just getting around the bootloader. Consider the fact that the phone isn't even in everyones hands yet and I think we've got some hope left. Just let them do their thing.

I sincerely hope that Tmo improves in the area of updating devices for you with the S3.
I'm an original Galaxy S owner (Vibrant on Tmo) and they completely abandoned it within 9 months of release. The Vibrant is the ONLY Galaxy S that was never officially updated to Gingerbread, and the GPS on this device has never worked properly.
I'm running an ICS rom on my Vibrant these days, but it still has it's idiosyncrasies that are annoying as hell.
The ironic thing is that I chose the Verizon S3 because I thought I'd be getting the "common" US version of the phone. As it turns out it's more of an oddball than the rest. sigh.
My great hope is that the stock version of the phone runs so well that I really won't care if I can't reflash it. I am also quite confident that we'll get an official version of Jellybean so I'm not feeling completely hopeless about the situation.

Haha, no matter. I'm facepalming myself at how much Verizon has screwed up this launch. Delaying the phone, shipping them seemingly randomly, the locked bootlauncher, and the bugged 4g. Verizon's made a huge mess of this launch and I'm sure it'll lead to some blushing and "please love us please?" treatment.

The complicating factor in my situation is that my wife switched with me, and she got the Droid 4 which she really likes (being the type that just HAS to have a hardware keyboard).
I'm probably going to have to stay put for now.
If the stock S3 runs smoothly and we are able to root and "fix" the wifi notification thing, I'll be satisfied for now.
Sad face... SORRY DUDE.
I'm a little fed up with T-mobile myself, and I've been with them since they were VOICESTREAM... so a LOOONG TIME. Up until June 2011 my 4 lines all had the $2.99 unlimited data (no 3g/4g)+30 mms deal... We were contract free for YEARS AND YEARS. Unlimited everything, blah blah blah... using iPhone's on edge so 3g/4g didn't matter... (still using iphones btw, except me - now trying the gs3). Then with the rumors of the AT&T merger in June 2011, I decided to lock in to a contract thinking I would get UNLIMITED data on AT&T for whatever the t-mobile price was ($20 for unlimited data, with the first 2gb at 4g? or something like that- whatever the promotion was)... At the time (6/2011) I didn't buy any new handsets even though all 4 lines qualified for full upgrade, because we all have iPhone 4's... I was told that IF/WHEN I wanted to buy a handset I could at full upgrade price *WITHOUT* re-extending that contract...
WELL - Guess what, NOPE. If I buy phones NOW, I have to re-sign for another 2 years starting from the purchase date of the phone.... I complained, moaned, *****ed.... They don't care.
RIGHT NOW I'LL SAY: Come June 2012, I'm LEAVING T-mobile and NEVER LOOKING BACK. I can go to a pre-paid service, save money, get better service, high speed data, etc... That may change in 12 months, but we'll see.
I jumped from Verizon to t-mo simply because after having a thunderbolt, razr, and a gnex I know exactly how bad most everything with lte is on battery life. Now on t-mobile I'm getting 4+ hours of screen time and 23 meg d/l. Best of both world for me.
Do they still have the ns4g available or would they give me a different phone.

If an NS4G is what you have then that is what you will get given supply. You can't exactly ask for more then you got.
Just took my ns4g in a few days ago because of abysmal signal and Increasingly yellow tinge to white colors on the screen. They offered to replace it because they didn't have any parts available in house but then discovered that the insurance company had no replacements available and had it listed as no chance of restock. The insurance company had it locked so it could only be replaced with a evo slide, htc design, or Motorola photon 4g. I tried *****ing them into a galaxy nexus but they said they couldn't do anything about it, the system would only let them choose from those 3. So if any of these phones interest you Id give it a shot. Just keep in mind that the Motorola photon the only decent option has a locked boot loader and the newest one hasn't been hacked yet, so you would be stuck with old ass android 2.3 rather than the sexy 4.1 you have now. The other two are also stock 2.3 but may be hackable, I didn't really look because i went for the photon.
Quick side note,
I first took it to the sprint store 5 min from my house and they told me it wouldn't be worth my time to get a replacement, and they wouldn't even look at it. They gave me the number of the insurance company and said I would have to pay shipping and a deposit to get a replacement. Then went to a sprint place 45min away a few days later for the lolz(was in the area) and they offered a replacement on the spot. Same with the epic 4g on my account. space bar was broken on keyboard, first store couldn't even open it up because of "a stripped screw" so they wouldn't be able to replace/fix it. went to second store they opened it right up and fixed it. Moral of the story if they wont give you what you want try another sprint store. (both are corporate stores btw)
Crappy choices...

I started a new AT&T account on around Aug 12th or so. For the 1st time in my life they didn't ask me for a deposit. They sent me 2 refurb phones the next day. I had the phones in hand & using them My wife & I decided on Aug 20th we wanted to port our Straight Talk numbers over. I called the Porting department & they had to send new Sim cards because AT&T & ST are so intertwined. They said my 1st bill might double because the system may think I reordered again, but it would go away. I made my first months payment on 8-30. I tried tonight to buy the Note 3 online. The system said I have this past due amount and it has to be taken care of first. I got online chat for billing help. The lady said tonight said they added a $445 deposit on my acct. She said the payment I made went on the deposit & not on the bill. She even said that I called in on 8-20 asking for the deposit to be waived. I told her no that I called that day to port our two numbers. I told her I haven't heard of a deposit till she told me.
I'm going to call in tomorrow during regular business hours to see what can be done. Has anyone else ever had any issues like this?
It sounds weird, because a deposit usually must be paid before service even starts, not at first billing. Kinda defeats the purpose of a deposit. I would ask them what day the deposit amount was assessed to the account. If it was added the day you inquired about porting, inquire why it was added a week post service, and how service was even started without it.
I have been with AT&T for 11 years, and never have any billing issues. In fact, they always waive my upgrade fees.
Have had ATT for 2 years and if I customer service is what I paid for it has been worth it.I always get what I want when I call them.have had 4 pushed upgrades and never had to b nasty to get them.

Update: I got a hold of a guy named Rusty with AT&T today. He was super. My credit was good enough to get up to 3 lines without a deposit. When we ported our 2 ST numbers over; the AT&T system saw 4 numbers which automatically kicked in a $445 deposit. Rusty said it should be remedied by Monday. He's going to check it Mon morning & call me back. He asked me if I was satisfied with today's service & I said I give it an A+
I agree. I've had nothing but good things to say about Att. Always call those online people are kinda slow at helping.

i think att is wonderful. My phone had been stolen last thursday and i called in to get my phone blacklisted. The CSR offered to give me an override upgrade even when I wasnt eligible for one. Now that is customer service!
Once per month. When I pay the bill.
You should be good. I've had AT&T for 17yrs. (AT&T>Cingular>AT&T) I've never really been disappointed w/them.
Conversations & dialogue have gotten a little "interesting" on occasion with my grandfathered unlimited data, but all ended well.
I personally think their customer service is pretty d*mn good!! :good:

All I can say is Att has been great to me. A rep told me if you pay your bill on time every month they consider you a premium customer and they will go out their way to help you.
