I figured I'd post this since there seems to be a bunch of people STILL having problems getting to EP1Q Gingerbread and Gummy.
I made a post about this in another thread but it seems not enough people have seen it.
Below you will find the steps and links to get you to EP1Q from absolutely any ROM or Kernel or Voodoo or Non-voodoo, Gingerbread or Froyo.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Turn off phone, remove battery, open Odin, plug in phone via USB and put in download mode. Put battery BACK in.
2. Check Re-Partition, UN-check Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.
3. Load the PIT file below. Also load the ED1 file below in PDA.
4. Hit Start
5. Wait til it is fully finished. When it is done, unplug the phone and remove the battery.
6. Put battery back in and start up the phone. It may or may not boot into Recovery.
7. If it boots into recovery then hit Reboot. It should now boot into ED1.
8. First exit out of Odin and re-open it. Then Repeat STEP 1.
9. Load EP1Q into PDA in Odin. Hit Start.
10. Be patient and wait, when it is finished doing everything, you may or may not see red error lines, don't worry. Go to the next step.
11. Repeat Step 1 and load "New_CWM_Recovery.tar" into the PDA slot. Hit Start. It should reboot itself into Recovery, hit reboot.
12. It should now load into EP1Q.
You may stop here if you don't want Gummy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13. Repeat Step 1.
14. Load Gummy EP1Q into the PDA slot in Odin. Hit Start.
15. It should reboot into Recovery when finished, hit Reboot.
16. You are now on a fully fresh copy of Gummy EP1Q!

You're welcome. Let me know if you need any more help.
Why ED1or ED2 though, I keep seeing people say to use that instead of EE4... Anyways I've gone back and forth from EE4 to EP1H and EP1Q then back about a dozen times (to test, load different roms, or try and duplicate problems to troubleshoot) in the last few days without a single problem so I don't know what people are doing wrong. I'll always help when I can though

1) have you had any luck with EP1Q Special from TBH? 2) Do you notice any connectivity issues with 4G on EP1Q stock?

It just seems that the ED1 All in One file seems to be a 100% surefire way to get to EP1Q from anywhere. I came from a Voodoo Froyo and used this exact method to get to EP1Q Gummy. It seems that most people that are having problems are the ones with Voodoo Froyo.

Personally I haven't tried anything with the EP1Q special. All I know is flashing EP1Q Gummy over stock EP1Q is amazing. Stock EP1Q is pretty buggy compared to Gummy. Connectivity is better for 4G on EP1Q. Wifi is very good too.

the signal is greatly improved in terms of radio connectivity... 4G/3G/1X hand-off is pretty much non existent for me, I get 4G in 4G areas and 3G/1X in spotty areas. Not so much of that constant switching just when its sitting on my desk

When flashing in Odin, if a file is included to perform a data wipe, you don't need to deactivate voodoo as it will auto-format the partitions correctly.

Which is extremely helpful in situations like these
Otherwise it can cause a nightmare to casual flashers.
Anyone else having trouble with the stock EP1Q Odin file? I downloaded it from three separate links on the main download page, and when I start Odin every time I get this result:

OK, I did end up going to P3Droid's post on Droid World here to get the EP1Q stock download. I chose the Mirror 1 Download from there. Using that file with Odin did work. I got sent into a boot loop, but really didn't care because I was going to Odin GummyCharged EP1Q anyway. From that point, I picked up from Step 12 in this thread's OP.
Worked just fine. I'm now the happy owner of a GummyCharged EP1Q Charge,
I flashed ED1 with the pit, rebooted, and flashed driectly to gummy GBE from there. Worked fine without flashing the EP1Q leak first.

I went over there. They talked about removing the .md5 extension and the file working. I did that and it appears to be working.
Removing the md5 extension is not a smart idea, even if it worked for you. That's an easy way to brick your phone. The md5 hash is how you know everything is there. If you odin a corrupt md5 file, it will just fail. If you odin a corrupt tar file, more than likely you're bricked.
I searched thoroughly before making this post, but I am a noob at this so I may have missed something relevant. Please don't get mad at me if I did!
Basically: I attempted to flash a custom ROM, intending to use clockwork mod. However, when I got to the step after rooting where you reboot the phone and put it into recovery mode to get into clockwork, I realized that no combination of button presses was working. Yes I know I was a fool not to check first to make sure I could get into recovery mode, but I didn't know and I'm new at this.
It was soft-bricked (stuck at samsung screen), so I got a jig and using that I can now get into download mode ONLY. I have scoured the internet and tried using KIES and Odin to get it working (I don't care if it's with a custom ROM, stock firmware, whatever, I just want a functional phone at this point), but I'm having no luck getting any of the numerous tutorials I've tried to work.
Before it became soft bricked it was running froyo (I believe 2.2, but I'm not positive).
Can someone please walk me through whatever the easiest way is to get functioning firmware of any type onto my phone, or direct me to a tutorial that will help me?
I appreciate any help, VERY MUCH. Thank you in advance.
EDIT: Also, the most recent tutorial I tried was this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853950
But when I run Odin I get this:

Yes, Odin is not working for me. It recognizes my phone, but I can't get it to do anything. I'm not sure if I'm loading the correct firmware or making some other mistake, but thus far I feel like I am following the tutorials I've tried to the letter with no luck.

If you want kj6 stock (latest stock), then run the same one click with kj6 from kies http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
The first click of "flash" writes just the rom, click "flash" after going back into download mode again to get bootloaders.
Then odin kj1 kernel with the odin link from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032
I'm planning on making an alternative one-click with the kj1 lagfix+cwm kernel with kj6 stock rom soon. So you have one-click to an install with cwm.
EDIT:If you have a problem getting into Download mode, you might want to shop around for a usb jig for the sgs4g. If that doesn't help they also provide unbricking service.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

you can do it.. just keep trying to put ur phone into download mode it happen to me... just keep trying and try different ways of doing it. after awhile i should work.. then odin with kd1 and start back from square one.. i been there if anything pm me.

You're not an idiot man, we've all been there, let us know how your phone restore goes, and don't be afraid to flash a custom ROM! You'll be amazed as to just how much better they run. c:
Hey all,
I'm sorry, I really thought I'd studied stuff about how to root, and yet I find myself stalled on the very first step with Odin.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G Wind (SGH-T959W). Odin is just sitting here doing nothing, apparently, with the stock+voodoo kernel.
* The phone IS in download mode
* I didn't directly install the Galaxy S drivers because previously I had Kies on my computer (in brief: had a Galaxy S II, lost it, later uninstalled Kies) and since I've been able to access my Galaxy S without any problem via USB, I assume that's fine eh?
* I have Odin3 v1.70 on my machine and ran it
* I select the stock+voodoo kernel file and... hit start... and very little happens. The phone DOES NOT REBOOT.
* Actually, I think I hit Start before I'd confirmed download mode on the phone by hitting upvolume, so I hit upvolume and clicked on Start again
* What the hell am I doing wrong? Has just doing the above screwed things? Is nothing going on? (This seems more likely) Of course I don't want to do anything with the phone or with Odin until I know how to proceed.
Apparently I can't post a link to the screenshot that I made of Odin, so I'll just have to describe what I see:
- the row of large white cell at the top is blank
- on the ID:COM line, the first cell says 0:[COM3] and the background is YELLOW
- I have files (PDA) checked and selected stock+Voodoo-T959VKJ1.tar
- the log reads as follows:
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Removed!!
<ID:0/003> Added!!
Postscript: I guess I didn't have all the drivers installed or something... strange. I re-installed them (it said they were on my PC), then ran Odin again, and now it's in process.
you have a t959W,
this kernel is first of all, very outdated, you should use KJ6.
Second it is designed for t959"V".
The compatibility with the other Galaxy S 4G branches is unknown. If it flashes, it may have deep idle issues causing horrible battery life. But if you absolutely want to flash it, use a a newer version of ODIN(1.85), or use heimdall. Search for them in xda search. I suggest Heimdall.

Yes but the dma issues and deep idle will still make your battery pretty terrible. Like he said, there are some different bugs, and they have different kernel source.

Yup, use heimdall. Odin is closed source badness. It's fine for flashing full stock roms... on winblows.
I've never had a problem with heimdall.
I have had problems with bad usb cables and usb ports on my computer that have gone bad. So bad that I had to get a new computer.

I am stuck in firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies.
I came from a HTC Vivid. I decided to go back to Samsung and forgot how pain in the ass they are when you make a mistake.
It all started trying to flash CWM on download mode using Odin. I did what I'm suppose to do. Its connected through the com port, only click on PDA and browsed the TAR file. Only checked auto-boot. Started odin and I get a Fail status. After that I am stuck on the firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies.
I tried to go to android recovery but it keeps putting me back on the firmware upgrade issue. Went back on download mode and try to flash the stock rom from AT&T and same thing. I keep getting a failure. I am using OEM samsung data cable.
I am going to use a different computer to do this, but here's the problem now. My phone has died, it keeps saying low battery, cant go on download mode. Will the phone charge even on this state?
Im not sure if battery is used in download mode. I can get into download mode without having a battery. I do know if you bork the recovery on your rocket she will not boot I'm guessing all you need to do is flash a recovery it Odin. Download a fresh copy and try again:thumbup:
Lol and from my experience Sammy phones are a lot easier to recover than HTC:thumbup:.......either way you need to know your crap before ya start

Don't think I borked the recovery, I barely bought the phone and its completed stock, not even rooted. If you can show me step by step. That will be awesome. When you say flash a recover it Odin. U mean download the ATT stock rom and flash it through odin? If thats what you mean then I have already done that mentioned above. I still keep getting an error and now the phone is dead and won't even let me go on download mode because it keeps saying battery is low? I tried it without the battery and still won't do it.
I got my guide from Vincom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398 and he stated that the battery must have charge or full charge.
I've had bad experience even with my old Galaxy Captivate. I have found it so much easier with my older HTC HD2, Sensation and Vivid. For example if something goes wrong Samsung goes into that firmware upgrade thing issue with kies. HTC does not even do that. There is no download mode in HTC. I guess to everyone's own. Only reason why I have this phone because I only got it for 100 dollars.
EDIT: Ok ill try to flash it again on that fimrware upgrade screen.

Windows automatically installed drivers when I put in the usb cable. I am trying to download kies right now and see if I can backup and restore using their recovery. Do you think that would be a good idea?

Windows won't automatically install the drivers. You need to install then yourself ( like any device), no need for kies(sometimes it conflicts with Odin)

Try the recovery, but you may need a full odin to stock.

Have you tried one of the Odin one click leaked ics ROM's? Should eliminate any possible user error. Not saying that you are doing something incorrectly, but it happens to the best of us.

Sent from my I-727 Skyrocket running an Android version AT&T probably won't give me for another year.
I made a fatal mistake. Since there are so much different type of Galaxy SII. I found out mine was the SGH-1777 not a skyrocket. I don't know much about these galaxy phones so the whole damn time ive been putting in SGH-1727 drivers, files. I really do apologize for this inconvience.
I tried un-bricking it with the tutorial I found and it just made it worst! Not even I still have my SG2 bricked, now it shows "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" !!! It happens everytime I turn it off... Yes I read the big red signs with warnings -_-... The thing is I don't know why when I was updating to 4.2.2 through the recovery program (not CWM the other one) it jumped "Missing MD5"!
The only data I have is:
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I727
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES(2 COUNTS) --I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS--
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
My computer detects the cellphone but when I start Kies it never recognize it! (Well actually it's stuck at connecting with the cellphone...)
I am really desperate! I have this cellphone for just 2 MONTHS! I don't want to lose it please help mee!!!!
I just found out that it was for 2.0.3 and I'm on 4.1.2 !
Help! If anyoene can please! I'm begging you guys!
Follow the attached guide by vincom. You need to use Odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26056924
Read through it and if you have questions just post them here and someone will help you. You should be able to get your phone working again.

Looks good. When Odin is finished, boot into the recovery and do a factory reset. Then boot the phone. The first boot will take a long time, 5 minutes. Be patient.

Could have been a bad download.
Glad it's working again.
You obviously used the wrong tar since you have 2 counts of custom binary. You should really read some more before you hard brick the phone.

I think he means you should read more, in general. Like read absolutely every single sticky (there are not that many btw) completely with all the comments in the threads.

See, the way you phrased that sentence already says that you haven't read enough..
It's a bit confusing in the beginning when you learn everything for the first time.
JB radios are backwards compatible with ICS and maybe GB roms. GB & ICS radios are intercomatible but won't work with JB roms.
GB & ICS ROMS = GB, ICS and JB radios.
JB ROMS = JB radios only.

Ok, but this is the thing I went on the link to download CM 10.3 which is stable (aparently) and I've followed all the steps with Odin to get the TWRP (I think that's the name) and when I tried to install the CM10.3 .ZIP it said "Missing MD5" and it got stuck. Before I was about to do the install I saw a tutorial that said "Wipe data"... Could that be the problem that caused the boot loop?
