[Q] Radio and Ril - HTC Pico (Explorer)

Hello guys,
May be you can help with my problem. I am receiving very poor reception on my phone. Are there any radio firmwares and ril for this? I looked everywhere but could not find anywhere.
Thank you in advance.

Hello Hpsgill,
Sorry for not giving detailed info. Yes, I am rooted and currently running Cyanogenmod 9.1.
Thank you.

Contact your carrier and ask them. They may be done something that coincided with your rooting/flashing a new ROM.

Hello xpmode,
The reception was same when i had stock rom before rooting. I get perfect signal when i step outside from my apartment. Only the problem is once i get inside my apartment i lose signal to no service. When i swap the same sim card with my iPhone it gets at least little bit of signal which helps me to make and receive call. May be radio hardware is not good as an iPhone. So, I was thinking mab be changing the radio firmware might improve a signal little bit.
Thanks.

iPhone obviously has a better radio. Your carrier may provide you a femtocell if you contact them.

Stupid question but have you restarted the phone?
you could try to re register your device on your network
Settings...wireless & networks....mobile networks.....network operator.......search network
And select your network

I'm certainly no guru
I'm afraid no ideas...although I'd be tempted to say it's probably an operator issue and not related to the update

I have had this problem since an OTA update from my provider (O2).
I have put it down to the known issues which are outlined in this thread...
Ah I can't post threads...google android forums signal drops completely htc desire s

I have put my phone on GSM only and no problems at all, as soon as I switch to GSM/WCDMA Auto. I get lots of issues, delayed txts, calls to me go straight to answer phone etc.
Running 2.3.3..........hoping to update soon, which, fingers crossed with help the issue

i have exactly the same problem without the answer phone.. just the delay sms.. and i was using it on gsm only also... but i sent it to service.. and i will tell you if the problem is solved
I has also that problems when I bought my Desire S, a lot of them, but, after install Saga3D rom and after that Endymion 2.1 I don't have that problems...
I have the same problem, Desire S in the UK (with CM7). Phone calls also go through to answer phone without ever being notified as well.
This really sucks.. A phone that doesn't work as a phone.
The only temp fix I've found is to dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information and change the mode to GSM only. Unfortunately, this means no 3G data connection. So really slow internet.
Dude check if the calls are going to voice mail directly....cause our customers come with the same issue and we give them the steps to turn off and on the voicemail and it works fine....
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Yea, they are going straight to voicemail. I've reflashed Cyanogenmod today, and so far it's been working ok...
Judging by this forum, it doesn't affect everyone, but a significant amount of people do suffer from it.

[MOD]Sensation Network Signal

Hi guys. After suffering with extremely poor Sensation connection for 3 months, i finally got fed up with it and decided to try swapping wifi and network antennas (just using some very thin wires). To my surprise, signal is a bit stronger. Now at home, i constantly have 1-3 bars of UMTS/H when previously it would never get out of gprs/edge. Now this is a surprise. I have not connected wifi antenna yet, so no reports on that. I'll keep monitoring signal strength and if this really works will connect everything properly and will post a tutorial.
It would help if someone else could try that.
Interesting. Please keep posting.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk
i'm curious, you soldered them ? it looks like you taped them down.
can you take a close up on where you placed those two wires ?
quite interesting, but i never had problems with a signal before
Try these :
Dial *#*#4636#*#* , choose Phone information
choose WCDMA Preferred or GSM/CDMA Auto(PRL) [Try both and choose the one with the best signal]
i did that and got an Epic signal .
also toggle cyphering it might help a bit with signal.

No good tbh, done some testing for a few days and not really worth it IMO.
I have been having loads of signal issues with my sensation and have tried searching these forums for an answer, tried different radios and matching ril's but never had anywhere near the signal i had on my desire.
I have found this today and wondered if anyone has seen it or tried it before. I think its probabilly just a gimmick thats why im asking before i buy one.
So... has anyone tried it?
Cheers

There isn't much reception in Wales as it is, and this phones poor antenna doesn't make it any better. It gives me a shock every time I pop my sim in some old nokia how much better it is.

HTC Sensation GSM signal lost
Hi all,
I had some signal experience with HTC Sensation 4G which might be helpful to someone. I was having a bad signal reception and when talking to someone on the phone, voice was loosing, and I barely could understand from the other side.
This happened since I put [ROM] Android Revolution HD on my HTC Sensarion 4G. Then I suspect on this but I wanted to try ICS and download the official ROM for HTC Sensation, and the same problem. I was choosing European Roms. Then I downloaded the official ROM for T-Mobile which apply s to HTC Sensation 4G and measuring the signal through
Settings-> About -> Network was kind of the same, but the signal wasn't drooping and when I was talking to someone on the phone it was good, no voice interruption.
Since I put the original stock rom, phone is working quite good, no sudden restart and no signal issues.
Best regards.

[Q] Radio issues with Nexus S, Hardware problem?

Hi,
My Nexus S is having a strange issue that when turn the phone on it picks up that I'm on Orange UK but from then on it says emergecy calls only or no service but shows signal in the status bar. If I try and call someone I get no mobile network messages but I can get a data connection and use the Internet although very slowy. Strangest thing is that if I put no sim card in the status bar still shows signal.
I've tried different radios and tried both Offical stock 2.3.4 and CM7 7.1.0 but same results, I've also tried turning 3g off but I'm now out of ideas so can anyone give me some tips please?
Thanks
Can you give specifics? Phone model, Baseband version (found in Settings >> About phone). Not all radios are the same and you can end up bricking the phone flashing wrong radio version.

You cant brick your phone flashing the wrong radio....youll just have to have the correct radio as a back up. I flashed every radio for the nexus s and its not bricked.
Anyway, the standard radio the i9020a comes with is the UCKF1 or KB3 as I have heard. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884 is where you will find the radios. Just flash the correct one. How you will know whats the correct one is it will be stated after the phone model. for example I9020AUCKF1 the A after I9020 is for the carrier ATT and after the thats the radio it came with. just reflash the correct radio through CWM and you should be ok. If not PM and I will help you further

What the next step would be is to try a new sim card. Go to your carrier and ask for a new one. If same results then its the phone and I'll assist you more.
Don't forget the thanks button.

Managed to borrow someones sim card at work today and it was the same result so it does seem to be a hardware problem now.

Yes. That would seem to me like the problem. I'm sure you restored your phone and completely wiped the SD? Also did you try pulling out the battery while the phone was on wait 30 seconds try turning the phone with out the battery then put the battery back in and turn it on? I'm sure you have done that you seem like a decently tech savvy fellow.
I've called Samsung before and I hate to say it but their repair policy is horrendous. You'll need another phone cause you'll be without yours for 2-4 weeks. They want to send "you your original phone back." Even their battery exchange is the same. You send your bad battery to them. They receive it process it then send you a new one. Motorola and apple have their repair department to be easy and quick which is what the consumer wants. More so apple cause you can go right to the local store and get a new one in 10 minutes. Motorola takes 2 days. Better than Samsung still.
Thats it for my rant! Just wanted to give you a heads up of what you will hear. Hope it all works out.

yea, try flashing a CDMA radio on a GSM phone and see how that works out for you!
edit: actually, this sounds exactly like the ns4g i bought the other day. try making an emergency call and see what happens. really, that's how i fixed mine.

I've had a similar issue in the past. Restoring my EFS made it work again.
But before that issue, I also had another problem where no amount of radio flashing and EFS fiddling would fix it. Sent it to Samsung and it came back with a form with a hand written note saying "BGA failure".
So I imagine this problem is more common than it might seem. *shrugs*
Restoring the EFS would have been one of my first moves but I was given the phone in this state with no backups made.
Just crossing my fingers that Samsung doesn't charge me a king's ransom to repair it.

It was found that the fast dormancy feature is not compatible with all network carriers.
Therefore, fix for that (only for ROOTed phones) is available using a change to the build.prop file.
The needed change is detailed here:
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=1
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=1 change to =0
I have just spend 2 hours on phone coping first HTC and T-Mobile.

I call T-Mobile and after 1 hour 30 min they figure it out they have technical issue with towers I ask why my wife's wildfire S is doing great "my personal technician" it depends on witch tower, witch channel and finally witch device so hopefully they will fix floating signal in 72 hours and that's will close m y case. Standard CS BS. I think you'll find that the new phone will have the same problem. I believe it is a radio issue. I hear flashing the European radios helps but not brave enough to try.

I'm also having this problem.
Just randomly the phone will just disconnect from the network. Takes it about a few minutes (1 to 5 minutes) then it suddenly reconnects.
I've heard changing the micro-sim was a fix but that didnt work for me. I thought maybe it was a ROM issue but I've been rooted for about 2 months now (the issue started happening a day later).
Has anyone actually tried the build.prop fix?
Well after yesterday phonecalls TO HTC and t mobile situation gets a lot better.

I think i read that's a prob with the US Tmo variant. Radio. Supposed to be fixed with latest RUU 1.84. If not, go bug HTC about it. Most likely their crap.
You could also try to flash the latest Radio from EU RUU 1.78 (0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L) which is one generation ahead.
Check my MediaFire folder. Got the zip's in there. untested though. need be brave for this. And u'll need a custom recovery. and be unlocked of course.

The EU radios are not a problem for the device. They also work in the US. The problem is rather to get them flashed. I couldn't really swap radios. My device just didn't accept the flash.

I've also noticed it's gotten better so something is changing somewhere. But still the problem persists.
FWIW, I've rooted every device I've had since the G1 (6 devices[G1, N1, G2, MT4G, MT4GS and 1S]) and never had any issue initiating a warranty exchange or getting warranty service.

It flashed alright with success message but the radio didn't change. The chip wouldn't accept the write. Probably S-OFF required.
I've spent some two hours waiting at the hospital today and had enough time to check out the connection under bad signal conditions.
I must say, the HOS radio of the latest EU ruu is having severe problems with keeping the connection alive. Even my HD2 with gingerbread was a lot better. This phone suxx with bad signal. And this is not in the US where this problem has mostly been reported. This is in Germany.

It happens to me too sometimes. I just flashed the latest European radio and it worked fine for me.
I'm having the same issue. I've tried three different radios and several different roms and now i'm back to stock by using a restore I had before going crazy on my phone with the available roms... It seems that the stock rom drops signal as well. It just elegantly drops the connection and then reconnects whereas all the custom roms I've tried don't. Not sure what to do... I mostly purchased the One S for its hardware.
These are the radio's I've tried and they all have much of the same problem on my phone.
Radio from RUU_Ville_U_HTC_Europe_1.78.401.2
0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L
Radio from OTA_Ville_U_TMOUS_1.84.531.2
0.16.31501S.16_2_10.22.31501S.10L
Radio from Stock T-Mobile US
0.16.31501S.02_10.18.31501S.08L
If anyone knows of a fix for this, I'd be more than happy to try it.
After hours with t-mobile personal technician they figure out they will replace my phone. Phone was bought on craig's list - something like e bay but free - and what's interesting T-Mobile will exchange for new one. We will see what's the story with new one
good luck to everybody

I`m having signal issues, as well. Whereas my wife`s phone has very good connection whatever the places we`ve been to, mine was struggling. And strange ups and downs with full and suddenly no connection at all within same area. I tried several ROMs and flashed the latest radio but still suffers. Regardless I`m in an area with full signal, when I switch to 3G then the signal instantly drops some bars. Very annoying....
Hi @ll. To me subject is over. Im using new replacement phone for 3 days and none of previous problems appear. I have no clue what was a problem. HTC blame t-mobile and t-mobile blame HTC. After all I get replacement device and 3 days phone work without any problem. Battery life is now much better because phone is not looking for signal. Still signal is floating but it is not going under 2 bars and device is all the time login in network.
So good luck to everybody. Greetings.

[Q] Nexus S unknown IMEI and baseband - No reception

Hello,
My Nexus S has lost its IMEI and baseband all of a sudden. I tried flashing several radio.img files but still did not get any reception. It's the same.
* I do NOT have a backup of my EFS partition.
* I "DO" have my IMEI number if it is possible to write it back.
* I do NOT have any Samsung service centres in about 500 miles of the geo location I reside in.
* My phone has CM10.1 on it. When this happened, it was on the stock ROM but rooted.
Any help regarding this would be highly appreciated as XDA is my only source of information and my only tool to help me get this fixed.
Thank you.

Same problem here - Shows all available networks, but registers on none !
I have re-flashed to stock using NRT but its still same, flashed all possible Basebands still no luck.
I searched and found that ODIN might help getting it work.
Can some one suggest it's gonna work or screw my Nexu S that's sitting there like a wi-fi only Android Device.
If that would work, link please !
I would be glad enough if someone could help me out...

Does any part of your radio work? Cell, 2/3g, WiFi?

I have one of the carrier's (BSNL) 3G data working...just for awhile though, and rest all give me the same issue.
I have one more question..when I dial *#06# I get the same IMEI thats on the sticker behind the battery, does that mean my efs is still good?
And to mention, wi-fi is perfectly working...no issues there..

Have you down graded below jellybean when flashing.. I had a problem with my cell provider (Free) and had to do somethings with the network settings and put in a code?.. It has been a while, hard to remember the exact procedure, but it was due to switching below jellybean..
Your radio is what allows you to get WiFi, cell, ect... if they work, so does the radio..

Somehow, my phone is heating up really fast at the top end near the camera and drops battery like crazy. Fully charged, it will drop to 0 within a couple of hours even with aeroplane mode turned on. WiFi works just fine but there is no reception and *#06# does not return any IMEI
Reflashing to stock didn't help either
