[Q] HTC sensation paper weight, paper flying everwhere, what to do? - HTC Sensation

HTC Sensation, T-mo version ics, hboot 1.27, s-on, unlocked, and rooted. Last event b/4 death, tried wire trick to remove s-on. Rebooted, got a big blank well lit screen. I can get in to fast boot and I have a card reader connected to my pc. Is it repairable by a noobe? I got a good understanding of dos and unix. Thanks.

S-OFF hboot 1.29.0000

So I sent my Sensation back to HTC to repair after i managed to ruin it replacing the screen myself. They did it under warranty which is ace, but not my new problem...
Basically I want to go full root and custom rom, but the device has come back bright and shiny with HBOOT 1.29.0000 (mar 2 2012) and none of my usual methods are able to unlock that.
I've spotted I've spotted the juopunutbear method, but no way am I connecting wires to hot points on my device, I'd rather be stuck with S-ON and wait for my next device.
Are there any other solutions / is revolutionary still under development?
1.29 hmmm that's new we are on 1.27 you'll be waiting for a bit if new scoff don't work

I have the same problem, get mine back from warranty repair with same hboot version. Did you unlocked yours with htcdev successfully?
I just opened a threat for that, maybe we could talk there about that problem...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621048
I hope someone could help us to resolve that?

JPBear is your only option at the moment, assuming it works on 1.29 of course.
It's pretty safe though, what the shorting does is activate some sort of download mode, it's also used for the unbricking project.

Unlocking with HTCDEV failed for me as well, maybe the 1.29 HBOOT is too new and isn't part of the bootloader unlocker yet? Either way I''d bet it's down to that, will get involved on your thread.

If it makes you feel any better about it, HTC does it every time they need to enter download mode to completely flash a new everything. It's not actually shorting anything, it's just connecting some pins together, and as the phone boots up, it's probably asking "Are these pins connected?" and if they are it enters download mode.

Back from repair now not sure how to root

Hi all, got my phone back from repair, with the latest orange crap and newest hboot. Ive read that I need to use Juopunutbear, to the s-off, root etc, but I dont like the look of Juopunutbear, (using wire? no chance_. I found the old revolution way much safer and easy to do. How can i still do it like that? Would i need to flash the old orange ruu on the sdcard?

You can't run older ruu when SON
To have custom rom's you need to do SOFF via Juopunutbear way or htc dev unlock
The later might not work for you.. As you might got motherboard replaced..
So only solution is JB via temproot

My repair was only for dust under the screen. so i have the choice of voiding warranty via a piece of wire (visual void), or I virtually tell htc im voiding it? There must be a sneakier way?

I believe you do know that.. To turn back SON.. Just one command will do... So it literally means the process is reversible
And I'm afraid that there is no other way to use root/custom rom

I dont actually mean using the exe, i mean pulling the pg file out and putting it on the sd, then it would let me flash back to gingerbread in the bootloader?
I see what you mean about not being able to go backwards. Im stuck now as the dev unlock is no use and I do not have the steady hand to do the wire trick

You can still flash ROMs while S On.
Its just that I found everything easier with s-off, rooted and supercid

I highly doubt it. If you're uncomfortable, you should stick with stock. It's always wise to not do it if you aren't sure of it..
If I had steady hands it wouldnt be a problem, Im a flashaholic, hate stock lol x
Maybe if you read over it a few times you might get a bit more comfortable with it? What I do is even print out the guide so I don't miss a step.this has really helped me in the past when doing new things, I know it may sound silly but its nice to have a printed guide infront of you incase you get in a pinch. This way all the steps are right there in front of you. This is what I do. Just a suggestion. If you DO decide to give it a shot then maybe this might help. I wish you the best in which ever you decide. I just wanted to share this with you because having a printed guide has really helped me out in the past. Good luck and best wishes to you!

not properly rooted ..it seems..
did you got any errors when temp root was run...also make sure htc sync is uninstalled(have the drivers installed too) and the phone should be kept in htc sync mode ...also no hubs or usb 3.0 ports
Thanks for the help, it worked sort of. I completed the s off I said yes to modified hboot, then removed temp root. Then applied root. Problem is the hboot still shows as the normal but with s off and when I try to install recovery it says wrong cid. Nearly there

what nearly there ...you are done lol..
just do a supercid
(first note down the actual cid though..just in case ...fastboot getvar cid ..to know cid)
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
EDIT: ohh the hboot is still locked huh ..
then get the pyramic ics one from here http://unlimited.io/hboot-downloads/
and flash it (instructions in the same link)
also after those instructions..to get back to bootloader..the command is "fastboot reboot-bootloader" without quotes

If your Hboot still says *locked* you cannot flash a recovery.
Please get the correct Hboot from here & follow flashing instructions: http://unlimited.io/hboot-downloads/
You can then proceed to flashing recovery.
Right done that even though the green line never goes to the end my hboot no longer says locked. I put the recovery zip on the sd, booted into bootloader said yes, completed and rebooted, but no custom recovery there?

[Q] Sensation XE Dark Screen

I need help with this. Yesterday, the screen of my HTC Sensation Xe began to fade, not due brightness settings but out of itself. I immediately thought a reboot would fix my issue so I went and rebooted my phone. Turning it back on resulted in the screen being nearly all blacked out.
When holding the phone under a bright lamp I can see a little bit of the screen so I have verified it is still working but the screen stays dark. I have tried nearly anything, boot screen (not visible enough), keeping the battery out a while, keep the phone turned off a while, nothing seems to work.
I have had this phone for around 10 months now, I recently flashed the latest paranoidandroid rom. My phone is S-OFF as well.
I have searched every forum for a solution but I can't find any clear info.
I hope it is the battery causing this issue so I don't have to send my phone back to HTC.
If you have any ideas or solutions, please share them with me.
Thanks in advance.
Bump, I really need help with this.
Unfortunately it looks like a fault with the screen, it didn't sound software related at all. Hopefully I'm wrong but I have had similar problems with dark screens in the past and it always meant screen replacement. Good luck hope you get it sorted

Yes it sounds like the screen It's self unfortunately.you can try replacing yourself if you don't want to send it in. They have some how to videos on you tube that seem pretty good. But either way it sounds like it will need repair . I wish you the best! Good luck

Thanks for the replies. I have given up searching for a solution for this and the only thing left is getting it repaired. I have a big problem though. My phone still boots the paranoidandroid rom which you can see if you keep the phone under a lamp or something, this will most likely remove my warranty if they see I am using a custom rom right? I am out of ideas right now..

How would I if I can not see anything on the sreen? CWM background is so dark. And besides that I haven't been able to find my stock RUU yet.
Change your CID to HTC__001, then flash a WWE RUU. Then S-ON by doing fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 in the bootloader.

It should be a superCID thread in development, except instead of changing to 11111111, change it to HTC__001.

Hm, I just read that in order to use superCID I have to use ADB, my phone isn't set to usb debugging so it's pretty much impossible I guess..

No, if you do it in the bootloader, if it says FASTBOOT you can still do it.

New motherboard, can't use HCT Dev Unlock or Juopunutbear No HTC Dev Unlock method

I sent my phone in for repairs and the motherboard was replaced. I had unlocked the phone previously using HTC Dev and S-OFF'd using Juopunutbear, but had to revert all that when I sent it in. Now when I try HTC Dev unlock I get an "unlock token check failed" error. So I tried the alternate Juopunutbear method which doesn't need an unlocked bootloader, but that fails to work either. The phone turns off the moment my wire touches. I've tried everything suggested to try and make it work but no luck.
Any ideas? I'm at a loss here.

Yes, that's the one I followed. temproot works and ControlBear runs through the process fine, but the phone just shuts off immediately when I touch the wire. and if I start it again manually ControlBear either fails or says still sober. I've tried a different wire and a different USB port and everything that had been suggested before.

Yeah I mastered it the first time I did an S-OFF (before the motherboard replacement), but now it doesn't even reboot, it just shuts off and stays off. =/
EDIT: Different SD card didn't work either. I even managed to get a restart after the wire trick but it failed (still sober).
I also had the same problem.
Didn't bother trying the HTC dev unlock as I didn't want to do it.
Tried the juoponutbear method and kept hitting a hurdle at the wire trick.
I re-formatted my SD card and kept trying. Apparantly the timing on the new HBOOT etc is very tricky and must be just right.
Keep watching the videos showing the timing and keep trying. It worked for me in the end.
Also had the same problems with my partners Sensation XE but got there in the end.

I tried about 30 times last night with different timing between each tap and I'm still getting the message. I'm gonna keep going at it but it's really frustrating. I was on hboot 1.27 the first time I S-OFF'd and I don't remember it being this hard.
I contacted HTC asking them if an unlock is possible.
Make sure you use a thin and insulated wire and hold on the SD card and tap with the other end.
I also had problems and took about 20-30 goes. In the end I used the KGS utility and got it to work straight away:

That's what I'm doing. Thanks for the link, I'll give it a try using that.
The first time I did it it took me about half an hour, very frustrating. The next two times I did it I managed it on the second go each time - and on the first go I was just gearing up and not really trying lol.
It took me only 10 times for both occations I tried. I watch the gif image on augie21k guide and used that as clue, maybe that would help? I was on hboot 1.29 and htcdev locked, so I used the Juopunutbear with locked bootloader. Best of luck to you man, I know how frustrating this thing is.

Damn I thought I had it! Does S-OFF failed "still sober" only occur because of bad timing or can there be other factors I've overlooked?
