Hi, explorer users!!
I usually don't ask this tipe of questions, but this time I can't find a answer.
I'll explain my problem before make the question:
I bought a HTC Explorer 2 months ago. I didn't have any major problem but I noticed some bugs that other HTC Explorer users didn't have. I sent an e-mail to HTC and they said that my Explorer ROM is the stock Greek ROM from Vodafone. That's a bit weird, because I bought my Explorer in a Spanish shop. The Explorer isn't modified by a carrier.
So I decided to install the WWE RUU on my Explorer. My previous phone was a HTC Legend and I changed the RUU deleting all Vodafone stuff, so this isn't the first time I change the RUU of a HTC. I created a goldcard and I tried to flash the RUU, but I still have the CID problem. I am sure that my SD works as goldcard because I used it on the HTC Legend and it worked. But looks like I'm missing something .
So my question is: I am doing all the steps? I need to unlock my bootloader or something to install another RUU? My HTC Explorer isn't rooted, I need to root it before change the RUU?
Hope someone can help me

I just want know if it's possible to change a brand rom like SFR rom on a official HTC rom . I ask this because I know that new HTC Sensation botloader is S-ON and normaly we can change nothing.
At the moment, we can't, but there are people on here trying to unlock the bootloader to make it S-OFF... We need some sort of root access first, then we have to see from there.
You don't need root access to flash an RUU with a gold card but it DOES seem this is no longer the case with the Sensation
Hi people, I'm a noob
Anyway, I just installed the latest HTC Revolution HD ROM which gives the Sensation XE for the normal Sensation. It's great. But then I discovered that I'm having the hardware problem. I need to send my phone back to the HTC support and let them fix. However, since I've just rooted it, I lose my warranty. And I need to restore my phone back to my original stock ROM.
BUT, I don't know what's my original stock ROM was.... anyway to find out? I live in Thailand, I downloaded the Asia WWE ROM, doesn't work.... So I really need help now....
Thank you very much...
What's the CID of the phone?
surely as long as it's a stock version on the phone you should be ok? or has that all changed now from the old Windows Mobile days when you just had to security lock it and stick an official ROM back on to hide all traces of being hacked?
Different regions have different versions, and then on top of that you have operator versions - a lot more than WinMo
Im sorry to ask this, but how to check Srnsation CID?

Reboot into fastboot, and make sure you have the android SDK (adb, fastboot, etc.) and use command prompt to navigate to wherever you have the android sdk saved. Type fastboot getvar cid and it will read your cid.
Mine is T-MOB010, (tmous), my stock version that came on the phone was 1.29.xx I believe, but an OTA immediately updated me to 1.45.xx. Unless of course you have a Sensation XE, in which case I believe it's 1.73. But that's tmobile US, I don't think you have tmobile us, so check your CID.
Specifically your stock ROM is 1.29.531.2, there may be other 1.29.xxx.x RUUs so always best to be specific to avoid confusion
The current stock XE RUU is 1.73.401.2

Do i need to run CID on adb to restore my phone to stock. Im on tmous also and i have the ota update before i root and flash my phone, but i need to restore it back to out of the box condition so i can send it also for warranty. Im a super noob and not really a techy guy so im asking for your help on the steps to restore my phone. I have read most of the threads and some of them are too confusing for a noob like me. From what I understand is i have to run adb to change my CID then download the correct RUU.exe for Tmous. Do i really need to run the adb and go straight to run RUU? Thanks in advance and sorry to question you so much.
EDIT:
Here is the official RUU for H3G (Three UK) standard model Sensation
Was pointed out by another forum member, so I have mirrored it onto Mutliupload.
http://www.multiupload.com/5IQK830UIJ
Now everyone who has to send their Sensation supplied by Three in for warranty, just...
Make sure CID is H3G__001 (or SuperCID 11111111, though if CID is this, you don`t really need this ROM)
Once CID is correctly set, reboot into bootloader menu and run the RUU.
Having correct CID enables you to receive OTA updates once you have installed the RUU / ROM. If you update OTA, bare in mind, that it will also update your HBOOT to 1.18.0000 *Locked*
So once you have done this, do S-on to resecure your NAND and there you go... Ready for a warranty return...
My 0.0000000000002p worth anyway.
Thought it might help people who are on Three...
Tested and confirmed by me
Hello everyone!
I`m sorry to trouble everyone, but I was wondering if anybody had a backup of the original three uk (CID: H3G__001) ROM?
I have changed my CID and got Android Revolution installed.
I would just like a copy of this original ROM for warranty purposes.
I have looked at the stock ROMs pages and I can see the generic pyramid roms, however I keep drawing a blank when it comes to anything from H3G (three)
Any advice anyone could give?
or maybe...
1) Would someone who owns a UK H3G sensation (standard one) could upload an image somehow?
2) Would I be able to create a ROM indestinguishable from the original one installed (which includes startup logos OEM three crapware etc...)
3) Yes I was a complete dipsh*t for not making a nandroid backup (I was a complete Android virgin, iPhones were my bag)
Any advice/flaming is much welcomed!
I HAVE FOUND THE RUU!!!
Made a multiupload link for it so it is easier to find. Will put the link on as soon I`ve got 8 posts!

ya not on ya own there, I have done several flashes, always backing up original 1st, but for some reason this step was "missed" when i flashed arhd to
There's an RUU somewhere, search for it

I have searched everywhere I can think of. I am aware of the stock HTC ruu files. These seem to be the generic ones and they are incompatible with my CID. I have changed my CID but would just be nice to find the proper RUU so I can change it completely to stock, and not just to the generic one. I'm sure changing the CID will invalidate the warranty.

EDIT:
The Three Stock RUU works 100%. For newbies... Remember:
CID must be 11111111 (SuperCID) or H3G__001 to receive Over-The-Air updates. To change CID, search elsewhere! There are TWO underscores in the CID
To avoid 155 error when running RUU, run RUU when in recovery... Use adb to get into recovery or pull battery / vol down / power... You know the score!
I`m sure all this has been posted a thousand times, but I`m hoping it will help people who are on Three UK (Hutchison 3G).
Many thx

I probably don't know a whole lot more than you do (I'm not a dev or expert or anything), but I pulled this info from lifehacker.com's "always up to date guide on rooting your phone" in the "unrooting" section:
For HTC Phones: HTC phones can flash stock ROMs, known as RUUs, right from the phone's bootloader. You'll need to Google around for your device's specific RUU file, but once you download it, save the ZIP file to your SD card, and rename it (to something like PG05IMG.zip—the download page for the RUU file should specify which filename is required), booting up your phone should automatically flash the stock ROM from HBOOT, HTC's bootloader.
They also have this video of doing that process on a Thunderbolt that might help:
youtube.com/watch?v=tE8BiIFUOpk&feature=player_embedded
I hope you figure it out!
The pg05img.zip is the name used for the thunderbolt. I think its pg58img.zip for the sensation. Probably want to search and verify this.
Hi,
I need some help with something similar. I would like to root my HTC Sensation XE but i want to be able to unroot it anything goes wrong. The Problem is i can't find a RUU for my phone. I am on Vodafone in Australia and cannot find any vodafone australia RUU for the HTC Sensation XE so is there another way that you can do it without the RUU?
Dear all,
I am in the middle of the bridge and don't know where to go...could you please give some help deciding what to do?
I have a Branded Desire S (Vodafone) with v2.3.5 lastest OTA update, and I would like to flash and try the ICS stock WWE from HTCDEV.
The simlock has already been removed, but the thing is can i flash this ICS update? do i need any goldcard or anything of the kind? Will the phone work ok? Or do i have to wait (maybe forever...) for the vodafone update? I reallly would like to unbrand the phone (the vodafone logo and other vodefone apps are really annoying...).
I think if this WWE update will go ok, when i received and warning about any vodafone update (because the serial indicates that this phone is a vodafone one) i have to ignore it and only apply only any WWE updates from HTCDEV, rather than that, i thing phone will work ok... but still i am worried about some things like :
- bricking phone with ICS update;
- some things don't work ok with this update because is a branded phone (i chat with HTC support and they told me that some guy complained about WIFI does not work after the ICS update, ... could it be possible, even if the hardware is the same from branded and unbranded phones?;
- possibility to go back to a 2.3.5 rom if i dont like for whatever reason of the ICS of its behavior on this phone; the HTC guy told me that only on the HTC assistance was possible to make it ... dont we just have to run the correct version of the ROM (by the way i don't know which is mine, could you please tell me? Because i seached on the HTCDEV for the right software number (2.10.168.3) and the file to download is a ".gz" file not a .exe one;
Other thing, does this ICS include a PTG (Portugal) language.
I will be forever grateful for all the help / hints you can give me.:good:
Thx in advance.

From what I've heard, the ics update has bugs, that can only be solved with root access. Flashing the ruu should work fine though, but you won't be able to downgrade without unlocking the bootloader to get root access.
For these reasons I would recommend making your phone s-off (see guides in the "general section), and installing a fixed version of the ics update, or whatever custom rom you want. Then you can still go back to the original state, if you want to.
I read somewhere on my downgrade guide that they have successfully debranded their phone using my guide.
