Why is stock browser bookmarks tree soooo slow to open? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Everytime i want to look at my bookmarks in the stock browser it takes a full 2 to 3 seconds for the bookmark tree to open. This more than offsets the fantastic speed with which webpages open. It is just bizarre it takes 3 times as long to open the bookmark tree as it does to open a webpage itself.
How can we get Samsung to fix this?
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk 2

mmm, just did this a few times and it doesn't quite take 2 seconds on mine. I can count 1 (one thousand), 2...and the bookmark tree is open.

Yes but it should be instantaneous. Why wait at all?

The only thing I can think of is that if you have bookmarks set to sync, than I don't think those are saved locally, so it takes a second to load them?

Could be. If so how do I change that? Don't recall seeing a setting. Will look again

I have this issue as well, however, I noticed that if you let Chrome load the page fully and you then try to scroll only 1 or 2 lines at a time, it works without any issues

That's true, it's not ideal, however, it works And plus, Chrome is still in Beta so this might get fixed when they release the final version.
It will be it's listed as a known issue.

Annoying S Note zoom bug :(

Anyone who is right handed has probably noticed the INCREDIBLY ANNOYING zoom bug you experience when writing in Snote after reaching the bottom of the page.
For some reason palm rejection goes haywire in the bottom right 1/3 of the screen if you rest your hand while writing. Everytime you put your hand down to write the screen zooms. Turning on and off pen only recognition makes no difference.
Have no idea how to fix this and am open to suggestions. Hopefully Samsung will address this in their next OTA.

Lock to s pen only at top right corner. Not much else we can do before a new firmware update. I hopefully it's jellybean

Yeah its a bug. Locking the pen has no effect. I'll go to Samsungs Facebook page and post about it. We just have to wait on new OTA.

Oh good its not just me. I didn't remember this being a problem before or after the update but then it just happened. Really upset me to say the least.

Screen flickering issue

Hey everybody...
I just got a new note & everything is excellent except that I've been noticing some weird flickering in the screen... Its not even flickering, its more like it goes dark for milliseconds & its not that frequent. Should i be conserned or its a software issue... does anyone have such an issue?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Have you got auto brightness enabled? If so try manually setting the brightness, also check your screen timeout in setting /display set it to a 1min not 15secs
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda premium
Auto brightness is off. The same issue is happenning with my galaxy s3.

Go into Developer Options in Settings and set animations to .5x.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk 2
Tried that. Did not resolve the issue... do you experience such issue with your device?

Take it back. It may be a defect.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I dont think it is. Because on the home screen & some apps like youtube the issue is nonexistent, Strange
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I have not seen this issue yet. Had mine since launch.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
After some testing I found out that the screen issue is related to some apps only such as chrome & xda's app. Most other apps work just fine such as s note, photoshop, youtube, all games & the home screen shows no flickeri g whatsoever.

I have seen this, I was worried but it is very difficult to return my unit as it is a grey import.
I totally didn't notice that it went away after changing screen timeout to 1 minute. Battery life is good enough to easily cope with this.
Setting back to 15 seconds to see if it re-occurs.
fyi, I leave brightness auto.
swyped from my Galaxy Note 10.1 with Tapatalk
I can confirm that the problem is solved. The whole issue is that some apps are conflicting with the hover function for the s pen. Once you disable that function in settings all becomes completly normal without any issues.

I have the similar issue on my Note 10.1 - the browser is the biggest 'flasher' and it seems random. I called Samsung support - They had me reset to factory and the issue went away, but eventually came back. I don't want to have to keep resetting to factory as that is painful for me to reconfig everything and I tend to believe that if I restore to ClockWorkMod backup, the issue will still be there.
Hi.
l had the same problem earlier. Simply deactivate the hovering S - Pen icon, and voila!

S Note crash

S note just crashed and lost my 2 hours assignment. Did I make a mistake in trusting Sammy? Is auto-save that hard to implement? And is it really hard to implement a auto document recovery system?
if it is really important.. y dont you press the "save" button time to time? it's just located at top of the screen

I have had many crashes similar to this using Snotes, Tapatalk, and Polaris office. The screen went blank and about 5-6 seconds later it returned to the lock screen with the app closed without any warning?
It sadly takes 5 seconds to save every time I press it

I was using shape recognition last time it crashed. What about you?

Hi all,
I had also a few crashes while taking notes in study lessons. It is really frustrating and I hope there will be more improvement specially on stability.
Best regards

I just got on here to look for this very subject. I use s note for work. I heavily use the shape recognition and handwriting to text function. Ever since the recent software update, s note has been "crashing" just a minute or two into using the handwriting to text function. It starts by not converting text I have just written, then after I wait 20 seconds or so, everything I have written by hand all of a sudden gets converted to text and then it freezes. It won't let me erase, close, or anything. Sometimes I can't even get it to force close by going into the application settings and I have to restart the tablet. This is very frustrating seeing as how I use this at work constantly and this was a huge part of what drew me to the tablet

I also have this problem.
When I try to write something with handwriting to text it works until I have around 20 words written. Then the whole application hangs up and ends in the startscreen...
Does Samsung know the problem?
Edit:
Could it be that this is caused by rooting the device?!?
I got also a lot of crashes in the s note app and my device isn't rooted. For everyday use at university I prefer lecture Notes to S-notes a lot more and on top there was not a single crash since I make use of it. I got my crashes when I wanted to make use of the 'Handwrite-to text'-function.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using XDA Premium HD app
Same crashes
After the latest update, my s-note crashes everytime I try to use the write recognition to text. My device is not rooted and it worked perfectly before the update.

Are there shape recognition in lecture notes?
Sent from my GT-N8010 using XDA Premium HD app
No. It offers certain tools like draw a line, circle, rectangle (filled, unfilled). So it CAN draw forms 'indirectly' but not as easy as in the s notes app.

Mine also crashes sometimes when using handwriting to text or the formula editor. It won't force close, it will just freeze and then restart itself

Not a single crash with snote since the official German ota jelly bean update for me though. Pretty happy with it.

Mine crashed everytime I used Handwriting Recon, the fix was to just use the one a key board. Now though I am using the Germany Jellybean on my 8013 and its perfect! You will need setcpu for on demand govevnor to stop reboots.

The amount of apps will slow your boot time down for sure. I've got quite a few apps on mine and boot time is around 2 1/2 to 3 minutes for complete boot up. Also, I'm running CROMI with Unters TF300T Kernel.

Startup manager pro. Very easy to use. Simply uncheck what apps you wish to keep from running at boot. Shockingly there are a lot. Stupid developers.

Autostarts is another one that allows you to choose which apps start at boot. Just be very careful what you disable and make sure you make a recovery backup before you start. Ya know, just in case you disable the wrong thing. Lol. It can and will lock your phone/tablet up.
