AT&T Insurance Question - General Questions and Answers

My mom is thinking about buying a phone off craigslist and she has the insurance on her account. She doesn't like the phone she has and.is wanting to buy the Pink Lumia 900. My question is if bought would she have to cancel the insurance or would it also cover the phone bought off craigslist?

I dont think so..because from my experience when you make an insurance to a phone, the price is determined by how expensive the phone and how expensive are the components.
so you'll have to make a special insurance to the lumia

Depends on how the original phone was bought. If like me u bought the phone direct from the carrier, u may have taken your carriers insurance, in which case the insurance may not be transferable to a phone bought from third party sources.
If u have insurance from a insurance company u should be able to transfer/ take out a new policy. Sorry can't be More specific as I'm in the UK.

As long as the phone you are getting is listed as a covered phone by asurion, they will cover the phone. You just call ATT, give them the imei, after they enter the info, the system tells them what the new deductible is in case you need to file a claim.
Once you have insurance, it will cover any additional phone you add to your phone number, even if the phone is not brand new. All that matters is that it is listed under their covered phones.
Just verify the phone you are getting is not reported stolen or missing first.

[Q] T-Mobile Screw Up?

So I just lucky enough to win the bid for a used but new conditioned HTC Sensation 4G in January for $200 on ebay. I've been using the phone ever since and just 3 weeks ago when I called T-Mobile to make some changes to my data plan, they told me I was eligible for the premium handset protection plan for about $8 month and it will cover anything that's wrong with my phone at all. I, of course, took that offer within a heart beat to protect my phone that wasn't purchased from T-Mobile at all.
About 6 days ago, my phone suddenly started overheating (stock rom/stock everything) and phone just shut off after it got so hot and it didn't even charge or anything. The phone was COMPLETELY dead. I then remembered that I had the premium protection so I called T-Mobile and they quickly processed a replacement and they gave me a HTC Sensation 4G BRAND NEW. So not only was I lucky enough to save money on a used phone bought on eBay but I technically got a brand new condition of it for the same price... $200...
My question is. How was I even eligible for the protection offer. From my understanding, you can only be eligible if you purchase the phone directly from T-Mobile and of course the previous owner probably purchased directly from T-Mobile but still, how was I eligible? Because if this is the case, then I'll just start buying broken phones off of eBay and then get a protection plan and get a free replacement in new condition...
I work for T-Mobile and we were offering php as open enrollment but it was only to be offered if you received a sms for it ..... yes your very lucky keep the plan

I am not on Tmobile, but on Sprint. I always purchase my phones on eBay, I once purchased 2 HTC EVO 4g, one new in box, the other used. Both were eligable for sprints insurance for $8/mo. I have turned the used one in for insurance twice and subsequently sold it to a friend who also got the insurance.
I know I am not on tmo but both companies are just trying to make the extra $96/yr per person so I don't think the purchase source matters.

makes sense but then again, people can abuse it and purchase broken phones or make false claims and get the replacement.
I bought my sensation on ebay as well and had the same question. The way it was explained to me by a tmo rep is that the warranty is for the sim card, so as long as you have that sim card in only 1 phone the warranty will cover it no matter what the phone is.

Phone insurance in the UK.

I'm looking for insurance, and I'm looking for one which pays out the value of the phone.
I've seen many insurers, but most just send you a replacement phone, and those are just refurbished phones, yet the monthly premium is about £6+per month.
I've never taken insurance before, and would like to see what you guys are using.
I've only ever used Vodafone insurance and they have the same policy of providing refurbished phones IF the particular phone you have is not in stock.
Having said that I've only ever received one refurbed /alternative phone but that was because the phone I had was relatively ancient. 9 times out of 10 you do get the phone you've lost.

Having a replacement is something I don't want. I'd prefer a cash payout so I have a choice to buy a new phone.
Are there no services which do that?
Every time I claim insurance, I pay the excess, then they send me a crappy refurbished phone which breaks after a while anyway, then I gotta pay the excess again for the same thing. The loop goes on...

[Q] What will happen with my insurance?

Current owner of Verizon GNex. Gonna pick up S3 off contract. What will happen with my insurance when I finally purchase my S3? Will the insurance transfer to my S3 from Gnex even though I did not buy from Verizon?
Thanks!
Nope insurance only covers for phones bought off Verizon stores

Not true most of my devices I've bought on craigslist and i did not have any issues getting my insurance switched to the device I got.

I asked a Verizon rep this same question. A few reps actually confirmed that the insurance covers a privately bought phone as long as you are on the Verizon network. They say its because the insurance is a third party, not actually Verizon. Addition carries the insurance. The analogy they used is just like buying another brand car, your insurance still covers it. Hope that helps.

I can also confirm this, insurance has stayed on my account after switching phones. Either that or they owe me back several months worth of Assurance payments.
Purchased my S3 at Best Buy Mobile.
Called Verizon and added TEC (Total Equipment Coverage) includes Asurion insurance.
To my understanding, your insurance automatically follows whatever device you activate on your plan, although with Verizon, certain devices have an additional coverage cost, with a higher deductible.
I can confirm this as well...they will cover a device even if purchased from a third party (craigslist, private reseller). I just did this in mid September, went from my Gnex to a SGS3 bought used at a local electronics store. Didn't even have to do anything, although I did call Verizon several times to confirm this is how it works.
Chris
The insurance is on the line not the phone. So all phones are covered.
Hit me up on Gtalk if u need help @musclehead84
Whatever phone is activated on insured line shows up on Assurion website as the one insured at the time.

If you bought your phone at Best Buy why in the world would you not use their insurance instead? I only buy my phones at best buy. Same monthly cost and no deductible. Only downside is 3 day turn around instead of overnight. But at the cost of a deductible vs none I'll wait the 3 days.
Please fill me in if something has changed before I buy my wife's phone.

As per the BBM Rep, their insurance doesn't cover for
Lost phone or Theft.
TEC (Total Equipment Coverage) costs me
Only $6.99/mo. with a $99 deductible.
I'm covered for theft, loss, water damage, malfunctions, etc.
Funny thing is that the guy who recommended I purchase my S3 from BB, said I should buy their insurance, and that I'd be covered for theft and loss when I asked him this specifically. All for $10
I had to inform him differently after I made my purchase.

Will vz replace my phone if I bought it best buy

I have vz insurance but i bought it from best buy. Could i send it to Verizon so I can get a replacement?

If it was from a Verizon retailer in best buy then it's still a verizon phone so yes
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
no sir verizon will not replace ur device if u cant take it back to best buy then do an insurance claim is the best route
If you have insurance with verizon you need to goto asurion.com and file the claim and pay the $100 and they will send you a replacement, no need to contact verizon. If your phone needs to be warrantied then call verizon and they will next day air you a replacement free.
Why oh why would you have VZW if you bought the phone at BB? BB insurance is cheaper, covers more, and has Jo deductible...

Bestbuy insurance is more expensive a month (cheaper in the long run) but not better imo. They take your phone and send it off to get repaired which sometimes can take a month to get back (friends was 3 weeks). If you want a loaner you have to put down a deposit for it too. They also dont cover lost/stolen phones from what I heard. Yes vzw's insurance has a $100 deductible on smart phones but they next day air you the replacement and iirc the 2nd time u file a claim they wave the $100 or drop it to $50? I remember something like that with my brothers phone but not 100% on that.
I have the best buy coverage and it's been great. 10ish a month, and no deductible.
I have replaced my wife's phone twice, (its my 18 month Olds favorite toy), had a loaner for no more then 2 days, paid 50 for the loaner, but that gets given back when I return the loaner.
Verizon coverage is more a month, 100 deductible. As long as she doesn't lose it, I feel like it's paid for itself easily.

False in every way imaginable. Lol.

I had to send in my old phone twice through Best Buy. Each time it only took 2 days to get a new phone because they would send me a new (well... Refurbed...) phone instead of repairing my old one
It now covers lost/stolen phones. And it's only a dollar more per month. Totally worth it, IMO.

VZW will only give 1 year warranty refurbished phones when bought from their stores/phone or their on-line site.
No third party phones. unless u get lucky for instance,
if you bought an incredible 4g off eBay and it crapped out and needed a refurbish, since you bought off eBay you can't get a 1 year warranty replacement from VZW, but if someone else on your line has the same phone, and bought it from VZW and is within the 1 year warranty, just call in and activate the eBay phone with issues to the line that has the phone bought from VZW, get a refurbish sent and send back the eBay phone.
now.. this is 100% going to work, but I've personally done this and it worked, but don't blame me if it doesn't

Verizon is $6.99 a month and the 1yr warranty from the manufacture gets extended for life of the phone (vzw will replace it after the 1st yr). But yes you do have a deductible on lost/stolen/damaged. If you want just the insurance without the extended lifetime warranty its $5.18 a month. So really its cheaper for just the insurance, BB is $10 x 24 mnths = $240. VZW is $5.18 x 24 mnths = $125. So if you only use the insurance once then it saves you $15
Whoa I didn't notice all the replies haha. I'm just thinking about doing an insurance thing since the gps is never 100 percent.
I went to best buy because I have the credit card with no interest for 18 months, and i paid full price since I didn't wanna lose my unlimited data

[Q] Anyone have insurance through verizon on their S3?

My charge port on my S3 is going to crap. I have insurance on my phone though and thinking about getting a new one. Has anyone got a new phone through Verizon insurance? How much did you have to pay? Was it new of a refurb? Thanks

If the phone is under a year old Verizon should just replace it without going through insurance. They most certainly send you a certified-like-new device. If the process is handled by Verizon it will either be free or like $3 for overnight shipping.

If your phone is more than a year old, you will have to go through the insurance. It will cost $99 and you get a brand new phone not a refurb.
If you have the complete verizon insurance package you dont need to go through insurance they will replace it for you, they did the same for mine when it wouldnt turn out
From what I was told you have to pay $90
As long as you paid for insurance. Which is 10 a month for two years or $100 up front which covers the two years
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
If you have insurance through Verizon Wireless (not some authorized seller of Verizon products) it is handled by Asurion, a third party insurance provider. If you need insurance replacement (lost, stolen, or damaged phone) it is $99 dollars. The phone you get from Asurion will most likely be refurbished but occasionally they do send new ones depending on stock.
If the port has stopped working because of a manufacturer defect with the device and not because it was damaged somehow, then you have to go through Verizon. If it's under warranty (been less than a year since you purchased the device) or if it's been more than a year and you have an extended warranty the device will be replaced at no charge through Verizon
If it's a manufacturer's defect the insurance company won't replace it. It has to be covered by warranty.
