Ok so even before GB my phone would lockup and forces me to do a restart just to get it working, and now even after the update that still happens. Am I the only one who is having that problem?
Mine is doing the same things but even more than before GB. It doesn't reboot randomly but it lags (in the browser and sometimes when using the keyboard - I use SwiftKey) and freezes a lot to the point of me having to remove the battery.
I'm new to Android but I think I'm ready to get a custom rom on this. Any advice?

after the GB updates, mine is behaving not that different. It now restarts itself when i plug it in for charging and plug out from charging. Anyone having this kind of problem?
Tmobile tech team is now not doing the exchange any more, instead they are telling me to go to nearest store to investigate the problem.....looks like i'm stuck with this device......
with the GB update, the battery looks good. It does not drain out like it used to be before.
Yeah its really getting on my nerves. lastnight it locked up so much i just switched it off and went on my iphone. i might call customer care and get a replacement and see if that works better.
Any of you try and to a factory reset?
I've been running since the day of the release and the phone locked up only once while left on the dash and got extremely warm.
Every issue I've had has been fixed, the phone runs unbelievably well for me.
yea i factory reset and it still happens. only thing i cant complain on is improved battery life, but what good is that when my POS phone locks up lol.
The lockups are a hardware issue. It still exists even on different Kernels. Just request a replacement.

I've had lock ups before. Flash cwm and start trying some roms. I no longer have any problems and there are really some great roms out for this phone. Just make sure to wipe everything and backup each time to be safe. There's no reason not to try them, much of then are far better performance wise than stock.

What rom are you running? I had lockups with the cm7 nightly and eaglesblood (even more than stock).
my phone freezes up multiple times a day and i have to take out the battery in order to get it to work. Does anyone else have this problem?
What are you running
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I have not experienced that. A bit of information might help others to possibly help you, though. Can you tell us what ROM you're using, if the problem started recently, if it started after you installed a certain app, if you're over clocking or under clocking, and if you've tried to do a factory data reset?
Im running stock. The last time i tried to install a rom i ended up with the picture in the attachment. So i took it to the local T-Mobile kiosk and they replaced it for me. i re-rooted it but didnt rom it at all. And its been like this since i got the replacement phone. never had the problem before. (this was a week ago)
Pretty picture. Kidding, of course. Reminds me of messing with interlaced graphics on my old Amiga.
If it's been doing it since you got it chances are it's probably a hardware issue. I've not heard of rooting causing issues like that. Did you install any apps after you got it, specifically anything that runs/syncs in the background?
Nothing i didnt have on before. umm.. Go SMS and Launcher, Widget Locker...
I'd go the factory data reset route & not install any apps for a day or so and see how it runs. If all is OK, start reinstalling your apps 1 x 1, give each app a day to see if the problem starts up.
If you do a factory data reset and it's still doing it, then it's probably faulty hardware.
Yeah try a factory reset and see how that does. The rainbow screen looks like a gingerbread rom without the correct bootloaders.

So that's the mysterious rainbow screen I keep reading about. Thanks, because I had no idea what it looked like (thank goodness). The bottom part reminds me of Poltergeist "Don't go into the light..."
Is this new phone they gave you refurbished?
I used to have that problem all the time when i was stock... New ROM and it went bye bye...
Hah that picture you got there reminds me of when i stupidly flashed a gb kernel on froyo... still fixed it and matter of factly I'm using the same device right now were all newbs at some point, don't let it discourage you, just take it as a lesson learned and be more careful next time

Completely stock skyrocket, for whatever reason a couple times a week my screen will go completely black and won't be able to unlock. The only way to get it working again is too remove the battery. In this state I still hear txt tones and such, but no buttons will brig the screen back.

What have you done to your phone so far? Root? Install ROM? Kernel? OC? UV?
All of these things will be useful to know when trying to solve it.

First 2 words of my post "completely stock". No roms, kernals, or flash. Just straight out of the box phone with 2.3.6 update through att
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
That honestly sounds like a sleep death, which definitely should NOT happen on a stock rom... If you can I would definitely take that phone back to ATT or wherever you got it to get it replaced.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Could a app cause this? Think it started after I downloaded ICS keyboard. The screen sometimes goes black when I unlock it, but its not a deep dark black like the sleep mode, when this happens if I hit the back button, it fixes it. So I switched which ics keyboard o use now, so hope it stops both issues

i had 2 stock sgh-i727r completely unmodified do this. i did factory resets and issues re-occurred. could have been app related but i was having it with no apps after.
didnt bother troubleshooting more than a hour, took it to rogers as both phones had problems < 15 days of getting the phone
first one lasted just 12 hours, rogers store did a DOA replacement and got it right away.
2 weeks later, my replacement sgh-i727r had the same problem. called rogers, got my replacement in 3 days.
so far so good.
rogers chalked it up to hardware issue after asking if i had rooted the phone each time.
This happened to me for the first time ever, yesterday.
I received a text. Phone made a notification sound, but then the screen would not come on. I could hear keys and notification sounds, but no visuals.
I took the battery out and now all is ok again.
I am on a stock 2.3.5 Rogers ROM.
if this problem persists, follow these steps.
Backup apps with titanium backup, but only the ones with information u really need
export contacts to sd
download darkside to sd
boot into cwm and flash darkside
reboot the phone BUT RIGHT BACK INTO ODIN.
Flash the stock rom or one of the pre-rootex ones
Problem solved :-D

This EXACT thing happened to my skyrocket and my friends on our bone stock phones.. We have both since flashed quick wiz rom onto our phone and has not happened a single time... The problem? ATT Sucks... just flash your phone
This started happening to me today and it has happened more than 4 times now :/ I get the notification... BLN comes on but I can't turn on the screen. If I click the power button or volume buttons, the backlights go off for a few seconds and then come back on. This is getting really annoying
Edit: Rebooted the phone just now and it happened AGAIN on the first text I received... wtff is this
This has been an issue for a long while but its frequency seems to have increased now. Basically it happens randomly and only if picture is taken with flash. I have experienced it on both stock jelly bean ROM and cm10. I don't remember it being an issue on ICS or GB. My phone is not over clocked and the issue does not seem to be affected by kernel.
My gf also has a nexus S and same thing happens with her. We both have the i9023. Her phone is completely stock and not rooted.
This problem is also not limited to the stock camera app as I have experienced it with camera zoom fx as well.
Anyone else with the problem? Do you think its a potentially hardware issue with nexus S?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
I think your problem has something to do with your batter. This is my theory because whenever you try to take a picture with flash on a faulty, or non-calibrated 3rd party batter, the phone shuts off. Try this: take out the batter, plug your phone in to AC, and take a photo with flash. Let me know what happens

What is a third party batter? I am not using any "third party" thing. :S
And this problem isnt easy to reproduce since it doesnt always happen. It just randomly happens and I can go on taking several pictures with flash without a problem. Actually what I have noticed is that it will happen on the first or second click in a session or it wont happen. If the phone shuts off and upon reboot I immediately take a pic with flash then it will shut down again but if I give it a break then it wont.
Yeah, the same thing here. Must be a 4.2.1 issue. Happened to me on 2 different roms. I never take that many photos, but happened a week or so and didn't think about it. But today needed the flash for Christmas pictures and every time I used the flash the phone shut off and I had to power back up. What rom are you on?

I am running cm10 stable right now. This is a jelly bean issue I think and I dunno why its not reported enough because its quite a major issue if you ask me. Nothing more embarrassing than that happening in front of friends.

Thats not happened with me so far.
It's the cheap battery
My phone switches off when I take picture with flash but only if I'm using the cheap battery which i ordered with spare charger. Tried the cheap battery with my brother's note 4 and it happens every time. It never have or has happened with original battery. This is one of the tests for a new battery.
Hi! Yesterday I took my Nexus 5 on a trip on top of my car and he decided to take a jump to see what will happen... Anyway, after really exciting jump and after I've found him, he was pretty much destroyed, but still working. So, I ordered new display with side bezels and repaired him today. At first everything seemed to be working, but now WiFi and Bluetooth won't turn on. I've took the back panel off to make sure everything is OK, and then I could turn Bluetooth on. After putting everything together again, it won't turn on. And I saw that for some short period of time, just after I assembled the phone, it had WiFi. :-/
So, now I'm confused.
Is it possible to have software issue, or could it still be hardware?
How can I, anyway, check if everything works with hardware?
Btw. I'm still on stock unrooted ROM. (Wanted to see how it is to have a stable ROM after couple of years )

i'm 99 percent sure it's hardware. software is flashed into chips so that cannot be the issue. it's hard to find out yourself wich part is broken. the best thing you can do is send it to your seller or a near phone shop.
Did the screen flicker what so ever? This happen to me because the screen was not original and I end up sending it back to the seller. Where did you get your screen from? You might have broke something when assemble.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
wow! That's what I would call a well shattered screen.
I would suggest you to take it apart again if that's not too hard to do, blow the logic board in case some particles are rolling on it and reassemble it. It could do the trick eventually. Re-flashing stock Rom shouldn't be ignored. At least on a PC, a driver can get corrupted when a laptop falls.

I ordered my screen from vodafone repair service in Nürnberg, Germany and it came the day after. (It costs 140€, and if you want the repair too, then it's 199€. Not very happy about the price...) My replace screen is original from LG and works perfectly. I have to say- maybe even better than the old one. No flickering whatsoever. Backlight is also a bit better because it is equally divided over the screen. Plus, the bezels had new buttons on it, and now has smaller holes on the bottom and power button doesn't rattle any more. From the outside, only the back cover now has two small scratches. everything else is great.
I'm pretty much sure that something didn't connected correctly because sometimes bluetooth works. Tomorrow I'll disassemble it again and see.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Maybe its better to send it to lg for repairs? That's what I'm planning to do. I bought my replacement screen for 150 and it was just hell because so many issues. That's the same price for a repair by lg. Im going to sent it to lg soon but not yet because I been to lazy lol.

The service wanted to charge me almost 60€ more for their work, plus they said that they would most probably reflash the ROM and I would lose all my data...
And I only wanted to save my data. So, for me, this is the best solution.

Sounds like the antennas are not contacting properly. Seems it can happen to anyone upon removing the backplate.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I've just disassembled it and reassembled again. Everything looks good. All connections are good and nothing seems to be loose.
I even tried to press the back panel around the camera lens to make a better contact with the antenna, but still nothing.
Looks like this in the WiFi settings...
So, actually, I think it's a software problem and am going to root it now and flash the new ROM.
After that we'll see.
If there isn't any success after that, you all know where to find spare parts for your Nexus 5.
