Yup, this is the official update available here in India. You can visit the HTC service center near your location and get your phone updated. :good:

Glad I found this thread, I just got a HTC ChaCha to unlock and put a custom rom on. But I figured it needs to be updated to install new hboot and ota doesn't show up. Now I know why.
It sucks HTC is pulling off this crap, of us having to go to a service center to get the phone updated. I did the SAME thing for a friend's motorola defy a year or two back. The motorola software just didn't seem to show an update for the defy even though it was out. The update was from Eclair to Froyo.
Cheers
Off-topic: One thing I'd like to ask is if any of you installed any script for extra internal memory. i.e something like data2ext or int2ext

That's what I was planning to add, one of the scripts from cronmod. Did you add this to a custom rom(if yes which one) or stock? I know about the partitioning and flashing the script bit, I'm a little confused on how I should do it i.e Install a custom rom and then flashing. The thread says the rom should have init.d

As far as I know every custom rom for chacha supports init.d. I just partitioned my sdcard from clockworkmod recovery (in advanced options, remember that it will wipe everything from your card). After that I flashed custom rom (tried with cm7, cm9, superosr, zasa and void) and immediately after flashing a custom rom I just flashed the cron script (you don't have to boot your phone after flashing the rom, so flash the rom, then script and then reboot your phone). That's it.
Good Luck

So HTC has outsourced the service to a third party called redington here. They were asking me 150Rs to update this ChaCha as it was out of warranty, and I was like then argued a bit and got it done for free.
I'm gonna unlock the stock plus rom and flash int2ext+
Cheers!

Official 2.1 with Senseui for Rogers HTC Magic +

Hey guys check it out according to Rogers Mary, Rogers would be rolling out 2.1 with Sensui for Rogers Magic today. yay!!. See her tweet:
Hello!! HTC Magic+ Customers should expect HTC to start rolling out 2.1 OS today, OTA
Go grab it.
will be good news for our staff on stock phones.
For the unlocked ones, we're on 2.2 already.
Undoubtedly these will have a locked SPL on them so it will be a while before we can get them unlocked.
We need the OTA url!
I dunno if only phones in Canada using Rogers will get the OTA otherwise?
It is already available for an hour? Or two.

Without Sense.
now the choice will be 2.1 + sense or 2.2 stock
Probably OTA update zip
Can someone look into this file? (Any developer?)
It looks like that OTA update, but is it so simple?
I see there is new radio, and probably the whole "system" folder.
Yes 2.2 that runs decent at best. This is made for our devices, it has to be good!
Bring it on Rogers!
Someone upload it when you guys get it
BTW, just flash the system and boot images without that SPL and whatever the fuss is about..
Can i install this update even thought i haven't a rogers 32A? and if yes, should i flash via recovery?
RUU is available here:

Is it possible to flash this while maintaining the hboot, spl and recovery? I am lazy to redo the whole root process again, which most probably will not work if I run this RUU straight away?
32A Asia here.
Through recovery it doesn't work for me. it says E:No signature (663 Files)
E:Verification failed
Aborted
any help?
?!?!?!?!
Just came home from school and saw this??
OFFICIAL 2.1 for ROGERS?!
Anyway to install this on european 32a magics?
Please tell!
i changed also radio with the new one in the archive but nothing, still instalation aborted.

You NEED to have both stock latest 1.5 rogers rom installed AND stock recovery that came with that rom installed too...otherwise it won't work as for one...it will fail with verification of the recovery and two....it scans MD5 of the installed apps, so unless you have rogers 1.5 update, it will fail there too.

So? This is only useful to those on the stock OS, others will no doubt be disappointed especially when they can't change their mind and go back to freedom. If Sense is that important then lock yourself in and enjoy the ride. What this might be good for is to assist the devs in improving the already better roms.

[Q] Got OTA update available after custom ROM???

How is this possible?
I've S-OFFed and rooted with Revolutionary my Desire S. Than I 've flashed it with pree-rooted SAGA S stock ROM (stock, hmmm...) and I've flashed a new radio.
I went on to check the update and there it was! Official update available! I didn't go on, because I',m not sure what it means.
Does anyone know whether it is safe to go on with the update? I don't know which update it is, but anyway, what could happen?
s-off phones with prerooted stock roms can receive updates but as i can see many ppl had problems (stuck on HTC logo etc...) after update
Just plain weird. There are a lot of people (mainly devs) said that you/we shouldnt be able to receie OTA updates if hboot/recovery among other things are not official releases.
Based on what you've done the last tine is update the recovery to newest one? Is it the official release?
If so, this gave me the impression that ota updates are dependent on the phone's recovery version/image?

I've got the updated CVM Recovery via ROM Manager. It is the latest version. Otherwise I still have the old HBOOT ENG 0.98.2000.
I figure, if it's a "stock ROM" only being pree-rooted that could confuse the "official update", as nothing is acctualy changed, only root is made. But that's still weird, because I wasn't given the offer to the official 2.3.5/ 3.0 sense update.
Yet after the "manual" update, the updates continue.
Mind you, there is one strange thing though...
After each reboot phone wants to send the info to the HTC, saying "the phone has recovered/ rebooted strange way. Inform HTC?"
I decline every time...
And I wonder which update could it be? Kernell, sense 3.5? HBOOT 2.00...?
what prerooted rom u use?
update cant be 3.5 only 3.0.3.5 is leaked rom

~Swaypovano sa Desire S BRE!~
AHA! I know what you mean "Adidas108"...
Yeah, I know there is an update to 401.5. But I was given the option to the official update after 401.4 pree-rooted stock ROM...
And am wondering whether it is possible that now the officialy offered OTA could be 401.5? That's what I wrote before... I mean, this maks no sense. There shouldn't be a possibility of an update.
Since I've flashed the pree-rooted ROM, after each reboot phone wants to send the info to the HTC, saying "the phone has recovered/ rebooted strange way. Inform HTC?" Has anyone experienced this?
It sends that maybe because it wasnt fully successful to applyin the updates properly?
Again, still plain wierd. Hhmmm. Yhere mut be something at play here that we still didnt know how updates are pushed.
Im startibg to think that it may be dependent on the network/sim card you're ysing. Maybe by IP address that the phone is connected to?

I have s-off and rooted my Desire S with Revolutionary and I recieved the Sense 3.0 and Android 2.3.5 update yesterday evening. I installed it and now my phone just won't go past the HTC welcome screen. Just white bacground with HTC logo. I can go to bootloader and I already tried some things as mentioned in the threads about how to s-on Desire S from s-off but it still hangs on the HTC logo. I also tried the factory reset but no luck. I think I need to s-on somehow without booting the system and then the new update would maybe work which is already installed. Or maybe I can just reset all the software and make it s-on and start from zero. Any ideas? I just want my phone to work again
Many thanks!

But according to phone software info it did go thru the "cistom ROM" flash OK. I've got everything as it should be after aplying the flashes...
And since there are many replies in which PPL are stating they got stuck at the "white HTC logo" screen. I'm not to sure if I should try updating via officially offered update.
Can those who updated their phones with the official update, after flashing their phones with custom - pree-rooted or any other kind of ROMs, state their software status, before they continued with an official update offered afterwards. please?

some files/images/partitions might not been updated properly. E.i. Recovery, hboot, kernel, etc..
I'm pretty sure we need to be s-on to apply the new update. At least I'm screwed right now. I cannot do recovery, it shows me a warning sign with a cell phone on the background and just stalls there, I have to take the battery out to kill it.
Okay I messed around and now I got into ClockworkMod recovery and I recieved the eMMC fried chip error. I wiped cache and got rid of the errors. Obviously I still have s-off and still it hangs on the HTC logo when I try to boot. What can I do with it next?
Oh and I forgot to mention one part. After I realized that I can't update sense 3.0 and Android 2.3.5 (phone showed me an exclamation mark with android icon), I used RUU to revert my phone to 1.28. Then used phone to apply a system update 1.47. Then used system update to apply the newest sense 3.0 update and I didn't recieve the warning sign. It showed the progress bar of the install and then while booting stalled at the HTC logo. Since then I can't boot up the system.
And for additional info my HBOOT version is 6.98.1002 and RADIO is 3822.10.08.04_M
If u can use recovery why not flash some other rim?
~Swaypovano sa Desire S BRE!~
Ok, but what rom should i use and can I get s-on by just flashing ROM or what?

OTA on rooted phones?

My first question is: is it possible to get the OTA update on a rooted phone?
The 2nd question is there something I can do to get the Software Update check work?
I realise that my first question may answer this one as well, it's only just that all of the other ROM's I've tried did at least seem to contact a checking service and come back with a response that No Updates have been found. This one just keeps waiting for a response and never gets one.
Want to at least try the official OTA ICS update from Vodafone UK if possible, without having to load a stock ROM and locking my phone again.
Thanks

It has always been traditionally said not to apply an OTA on a rooted phone as, historically, it's caused nothing but problems. Whether the same is true now I can't say BUT I would not recommend it personally
do i need to uninstall only SU, or su and clockwork to install ota?
sorry for my bad english
thanks
CWM needs to go as well - you need the stock recovery
Thanks for the advice. I'll have to go stock if CM9 is a long way off. Or try 7.x again, although I'll really miss ICS.

I think as long as you have stock recovery but are S-OFF; it shouldn't be an issue. I looked at some previous posts , albeit from the Evo forum and it seems to be fine. I could be wrong, though.
I keep seeing people post about being rooted and flashing the OTA update. Now someone please, please, please correct me if I am wrong, but when you flash as new ROM, unless you just flash a new system via ADB fastboot commands, you flash a new kernel and all every time you flash a new ROM. So therefor it does not matter if you are rooted cause the rooted kernel will be replaced with a new ROM. For those out there that do not know the kernel is contained in the boot.img of a ROM. Now in a s tock ROM it is. Of always named boot.img but it is still pretty much the same thing with maybe a little more than a custom TOM's would be. So please people stop wording about being rooted, it does not matter. If you are on the correct stock ROM and have the stock recovery you are good to go to flash and run the OTA. It does not matter if you are S-off or S-on either.
It does 100% matter as otherwise the SU app/binary will still be present and potentially cause issue to the 'stock' ROM. Go look at the Desire forums all over the net for examples as to why you shouldn't flash an OTA onto a rooted handset

So as long as you're stock recovery, and stock ROM, but s-off, it shouldn't have any bearing whether or not you upgrade ota... Right?

Ok I well look into this further when I get home from work. I have not looked at the Desire forums yet, bit I will later today. My question is though are the Desire users having to use the stock recovery, or has someone made a flashable .zip file for them of the OTA? If so this could have something to do with the troubles. Like I said I will check into this further this evening. I still say it should not as the kernel is replaced when you flash the OTA update, bit I could very well be wrong.
It's not that you can't do it, you can, it's just not recommended. By all means try it but should it go wrong flashing an RUU is all that would work

I totally understand what you are saying, but flashing stock is not the only way to fix it, it is just the easiest and most user friendly way to fix it. It is pretty much a one click fix, and that is because of the RUU it self. When you flash via a RUU the utility runs a Task 28 on the NAND memory first meaning the NAND is totally wipped, meaning all partitions, before the ROM is flashed. Now you can also use ADB to remove and reflash all partitions,Splash 1(mtdblock0), recovery(mtdblock1), boot(mtdblock2), system(mtdblock3). cache(mtdblock4), userdata(mtdblock5).
Now back to the question about being rooted, I still have not got home yet to get on my computer to look at the desire forums. Now from what I know root is acheived on the kernel level cause that is what root is. It allows for direct communication with the kernel, again correct me if I am wrong. Now I understand that Superuser app binaries would still be present if you flashed just the system. But if you flash a whole new ROM wich is what the OTA update does, then the kernel is replaced with the kerneel in the OTA update, which by is either a completely new kernel or a modified kernel that HTC has made to work with ICS. I have not had time to look into wich one it is, but from my experience of trying to help port the SDK of ICS to the Sensation it is probably a completely new kernel.
Anyway I will have to do some research on the differences between stock recoveries and custom recoveries. Specifically the processes the recoveries run when flashing a ROM from SD card, and just what all is in the OTA update files. Once I get to do this I will be more able to give a hard core answer to this question. Oh and thinks to the EddyOS for helping to get me back into digging around in ROM files and learning more about how Android works.
Edit: I totally forgot to mention JTAG, this is another way that you could fix the problem, all be it sort of a major over kill for the problem, but still a fix.

[Q] cant s off (hboot 1.27)can i root?

Hi all
I was hoping to change the rom on my sensation running (OTA) ICS with Hboot 1.27.00 but failed at the first hurdle of S Off.
obviously after searching i realise that i cant S Off at the moment so have decided to hard reset my phone ( it had a few issues)
when i first got the phone i temp rooted it and then used bloat freezer to get rid of the bloatware.
Since i have a bit of a wait for a S off method is it possible to root it or any other way to get rid of the bloatware?
thanks

ohh yeah...it seems requirement is HTCdev unlocked bootloader and root to device....so you need to get a recovery for that...
do the HTCdev unlock
and then try to flash 4EXT recovery from this thread (try the latest one 1.0.0.5 RC2)
4EXT recovery
its an app...just install the app onto your device and then install it
if it fails...then flash recovery using this image
dropbox link
keep the recovery image in your adb folder ,then go to fastboot mode and flash the recovery
command to flash "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
once you got recovery you need to follow step 3 of this guide to get root...
then follow the steps in SOFF thread
thanks guys
wish i hadnt had the ota update now!!!
seems its now much more complicated.
when i have a few hours ( maybe a day since im such a noob) i will git it all a go
or maybe wait for the revolutionary to become available

You could try Unlimited or read more about it here.
HTCDev unlock is all you need for root and custom ROMs, if you don't like the look of S-OFF, you don't need it.
Im kinda new in sensation bought it 2 weeks ago so please dont blame me for asking All I want to know is what kind of benefits is giving us s-off if we still can install custom roms with same firmware as official ICS? I read here on xda that it unlocks some commnads but no-one said which one exactly :/ Since most of the roms are on newest firmware (official one) it looks like it has almost no sense to do s-off if u dont want go back to ginger roms am I right?
sab3r
i was thinking the same
what i would like to do with my phone is to get a stable custom rom that gives me sense 3.6 ICS and the overclocking to the xe spec.
I know the best option is ARHD and if s off is of no use to me then i guess i could go the htc dev route. its just having decided to hard reset the phone and realising the complete faff i dont want to mess around too much.

I agree but as some tutorial said you can install recovery and root without s off all u need is just htcdev unlock so going forward you can install every android 4.0 rom The problem is that the version of firmware has to be 3.32.xxx.x (ICS update OTA) but as for as I know most of the 4.0 roms needs that anyway :]

Ok, so I have a HTC ONE X and i've had it since September and I have never gotten the 4.0.4 update. I contacted my provider (AT&T), they told me that they made the update available over the air. I went to my Settings app and clicked Check for Updates and after about a minute it went back to the same screen. I then contacted HTC Customer Support and the guy told me that they never made it available OTA. I'm confused. Is there something wrong with my phone? Help!?!?!

Att sent it ota....though you might be able to do it manually.... Don't talk to HTC employees about software its a random response every tome nothing is consistent....I do recommend rooting it and flashing maybe just a stock rooted Rom if that's what you like

huh?
So you are on the 1.85 firmware?
If you have any desire to root, flash custom ROMs, etc., my advice would be to not update, and root the phone now. The 2.20 firmware includes an updated 1.14 hboot which plugs the exploits by which boot.img and radios can be flashed in recovery. This means that flashing ROMs takes extra steps of extracting boot.img from the ROM and flashing it over fastboot. You can't flash radios at all on the new hboot (with the exception of CM10 radios). People are actually downgrading the hboot, so they don't have to deal with these things.
Once rooted and bootloader unlocked, you can just flash any ROM you want, including stock rooted 2.20 or newer versions firmwares.
If you still want to upgrade the official way, and can't get the OTA, you can flash the RUU. It will wipe user data, but IMO this is a better cleaner way to update than OTA, anyway.
here is the ota http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_EVITA_UL_...2.7-1.85.502.3_R2_releasenin45grzkfswb95v.zip
this method might let you manually update [How-To] Update devices via the OTA .zip
