Hello everyone,
This thread contains the developing/porting stages for the Ice Cream Sandwich / CyanogenMod9 ROM, brought to you by adlx.xda. Therefore all the credits regarding this should go to him. Thanks man for making this device better for each one of us!
Please note that the 2nd post is reserved by adlx for future use. Keep an eye out there. In the meantime I will manage the QA and provide assistance as much as possible.
NOTE: I am using the ROM on a daily basis.
2nd NOTE: This ROM is far from stable, it's still under high development by the CM team. Please report all of your findings in the thread as suggested below.
3rd NOTE: Please keep the thread clean of off-topic. Questions like "when is the next release?","When is the front camera fixed?" and so on will not be tolerated.

1. Front camera is not working
Workaround: not available.
Suggestions: none; avoid switching to front camera.
Steps to reproduce: Open camera -> Switch to front camera.
2. Volume panel switching causes a crash in Trebuchet
Workaround: none.
Suggestions: Use it once or twice maximum.
Steps to reproduce: Settings -> Sound -> Volume panel -> Change through all the settings. After each change press OK. Trebuchet will crash.
3. Key X is not working
As with the CM and SuperOSR builds, bear in mind that the keyboard it comes with might be other than for your region.
Workaround: new mappings.
Suggestions: as with the other thread, post your CID, use KeyEventDisplay to post the keycodes and it will get fixed..
4. Wi-Fi Scan button does nothing
Workaround: Wi-Fi Off - Wi-Fi On.
Steps to reproduce: Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Scan -> No results (new results).
5. Movie Studio is not working
Workaround: none
Suggestions: none
6. Wifi cannot lock on hidden hotspots
Symptom: wifi won't lock on hidden hotspot
Workaround: unhide the hotspot so the phone locks. You can hide it back after this. If you leave away from the wifi but keep the phone wifi on, it will relock once you are back
Steps to reproduce: Phone wifi off -> Hide hotspot SSID -> phone wifi on (it won't lock)
7. Sometimes mobile data seems to get off
Workaround: you have to go to mobile networks and switch it off and on again
8. No PIN code input is shown
Description: When the SIM is locked and the PIN screen is shown, entering input will not display any characters.
Workaround: None at the moment. Input is still active but it is not shown.
Suggestion: Carefully type in your PIN and continue.
9. Voice Search is not working
Description: When starting the Voice Search app, it will crash without any further explanation.
Workaround: Check this post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28656931&postcount=171
It's proven to work, I personally performed the same thing, with one exception, I downloaded Google's Voice Search from Play Store.
Steps to reproduce: Add the Google Search widget to your screen -> Press the voice button
Please report your other findings in this thread, in a similar matter:
Summary (for example "Camera is not working")
Workaround: the exact steps for the workaround or "none"
Suggestions: personal suggestions regarding the issue. Anything could go in here, which could lead to different discussion and improvements.
Steps to reproduce: the exact steps to reproduce. I'll give you an example now. Let's say that the Trebuchet application crashes when adding more than 7 home screens. For this you must already have your phone booted, so we can skip this from the steps. The precise steps to reproduce should be the following:
Steps to reproduce: Menu soft key -> System settings -> Launcher -> Homescreen -> Homescreens -> Increase to 7 -> OK.
Another example, while booting, let's say that the phone gets stuck in bootloading animation after setting the Default screen to a number that is not available (you have 5 and you set it to 6).
Steps to reproduce: Menu soft key -> System settings -> Launcher -> Homescreen -> Default screen -> Set to 6 -> OK -> Reboot phone.

Sexy thread lol ;-)
Possible bug report:
Summary: Cell radio cuts out for a few seconds when screen turns off
Workaround: Copying "libhtc_ril.so" from the last CM7 build and replacing the one from this CM9 build keeps cell connection for me
Suggestions: I tried a combination of different radios, HBOOTs, and ROMs flashing from when I had this problem, but what worked in the end, was using CM7's libhtc_ril.so
Steps to reproduce: After a clean install without any modifications, turn off the screen. You should lose cell connection for a few seconds.
This may not be a wide problem, since I asked in the other thread here, and luke.arran says he doesn't have this issue.

Same here. No signal after the screen's been off for a few minutes. I wonder, maybe that's just the indicator..

This one I can confirm too - had two phonecalls from my father yesterday morning, and all I saw on my screen was the pull-to-answer/unlock thingy
First, thanks for this ROM, i love it!
I have a problem with the key mapping for Swiss German.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
The layout is set to Swiss German, but the layout still keep in US-English...

Yep, but not today as I'm flying back to Bucharest
You can do it yourself though if all the keys are working (which they should) by getting this file:
adb pull /system/usr/keychars/chacha-keypad.kcm
Edit with a text editor, save and push it to the same location. Or you can use a file browser like ES File Explorer to browse there and copy-paste it to your SD card.
so, you mean, i can copy the keyfile from my superOSR rom to the CM9?

Add flag for SUPER.DUPER.WIPE:
with permission from @waydownsouth, I modified his AIO ("All In One") script from mexdroid rom and incorporated SUPER.DUPER.WIPE into OFFICIAL MIUI.us ROM..
The flag for SUPER DARKSIDE WIPE:
-wipe
-cam
What SUPER DARKSIDE WIPE flag does:
-wipe = A full wipe that is much more through and is HIGHLY suggested over any wipe options in recovery menu. It will also format partitions to EXT4 (NOTE: THIS WILL DELETE ALL USER DATA! DOESN'T TOUCH SD CARD!)
-cam = This will install the latest CM7 Camera app and remove the MIUI Camera from the rom.
If no -wipe flag is added to the end of file name it will not wipe...
Adding flags to the file name:
If default file name is:
Code:
[B]MIUI.us_glacier_1.9.16_Eng_Deo_ZipA_Signed_thederekjay.zip[/B]
To perform a SUPER.DUPER.WIPE by adding -wipe flag to end of file name:
Code:
[B]MIUI.us_glacier_1.9.16_Eng_Deo_ZipA_Signed_thederekjay-wipe.zip[/B]
Get IT??? Its as simple as adding "-wipe" to the end of the file name. Must also contain no spaces or else it will not work!!
Instructions on flashing OFFICIAL MIUI.us w/ demonspeedMOD:
* FULL WIPE ALWAYS *
1. BACKUP ALL APPS with preferred method (ie: MIUI Back Up, Titanium, My Backup)
2. Download ROM*I HIGHLY suggest chaning file name on your comp and not in recovery if possible.. Could save you a headache!*3. Set flag for SUPER.DUPER.WIPE
4. Place ROM on ROOT of your SD card.
4. Boot into Recovery Mode
5. Do a NAND BACKUP!!!
6. Flash ROM.
7. After flashing is complete, Reboot...
8. Done!

[DOWNLOAD HERE] [STABLE] [DARKSIDE MIUI 2.3.5a] [12.23.2011]
Swype in all different flavors, Available [LINK DOWN] (9.18.2011) - Download and install as a normal app! Make sure that /system/app/Swype.apk and /system/lib/libswype.so (or libSwypeCore.3.7.85.27287.so) is REMOVED from the device before installing or it will FC! (If coming from clean install you dont need to worry about this...) v3.23 OEM has everything working ie: vibrate on keypress, 3.25 I believe is lacing that feature...

FAQ:
Q: What's is "a BETA"?
A: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Beta
Q: When will BETA's / Stables be released?
BETA - Weekly.
Stable - Monthly.
Q: When will the ROMs be released?
A: MIUI.cn release the builds on Friday.
MiuiAndroid try to get the builds out on Friday but it could be a long as Sunday.
We will try to release a our builds before or on Monday of each week, if we are late, please don't post and ask when it will be ready.
Q: When will the change log be released?
A: MIUI.CN release the change logs on Friday.
MiuiAndroid try to get the translated version of the change log out on Friday.
Q: Do I need to wipe?
A: If you are coming from other MIUI based ROMs then you only need to wipe the caches, not data. If you are coming from other ROMs then you need to wipe the caches and data.
Q: I see Chinese text! What do I do?
A: Reset, if it's still there, report it here but there isn't much I can do about it if its a missing translation as I do not speak Chinese myself but I will pass it onto the people that do.
Q: XYZ game doesn't work
A: The Milestone is ageing hardware and you could class it as a Gen 2 device (and Gen 4 coming out at Christmas this year) and due to this, some apps (such as games) may not run so well on the Milestones hardware.
Some users recommend using this app to try and get some games (such as Cut The Rope) to work; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087427
Some users recommend disabling JIT as well as this should free up some RAM;
/system/build.prop
Change:
dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit
To:
dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:fast
Q. The new Market (Black) is slow / laggy. Why?
It's just too heavy for the Milestone. You can flash the old Market here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17189832&postcount=886
I am thinking about including the old Market by default and I would like your views on it.
Q: Will you add XYZ language?
A: I wont be as I feel (as I only speak English) that the quality of the build would decrease.
You can found other languages here: http://en.miui.com/download.html
Q: Will you include an OTA update option?
A: I want to but, but the cost of bandwidth is something I can not currently afford - any suggestions would be highly welcomed.
Q: Why won't you add any new features?
A: Simply because I do not have the time or equipment to code and debug.
Q: Is the DSI fix in your releases?
A: Yes. Since 1.6.24 MIUI.cn include it.
Q: Is MIUI open source?
Currently. no but it will be!

i just have one request .. i wanna know if it is possible to get the " VOLUME ROCKER WAKE " option from cmextras to this ? .. my power button is totally useless so im forced to use cronos cuz ther is a patch for cmextras on his site ..
Nice work danny and skadude
Keep up the great work
Is it possible to extract the keyboard fix from your rom, and if so, which files are to be extracted?
I have a well working german 1.6.24 rom which just lacks the keyboard fix.

I reckon you refer to the wrong fix. The problem in the German ROM comes from the use of the HTC_IME-keyboard, as far as I can see.
Danny_Android doesn´t use this nor the Gingerbread keyboard eyebee usually featured in his ROMs, he just has the standard Miui keyboard.
But maybe I am wrong.
The keyboard included in this ROM is eybee's Gingerbread keyboard. You would have to extract LatinIME.apk from system/app and libjni_latinime.so from system/lib

I'm not aren't currently taking requests. I want to understand the Android system a little better first before making big changes.
This may help you, I saw an app here a few months ago where it uses the proximity sensor to unlock the phone (i.e. you swype your hand over the screen).

That refers to your ROM, right? Yours and DannyDroid´s are two different ones, or am I on the wrong track?

Yes, that is for my ROM. The only difference between mine and Danny's is the keyboard I believe. I would like to release one single version, so perhaps Danny and I can combine forces to get something sorted out.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA Premium App
We will do, it's just all a little messy at the moment and my lack of free time isn't helping.

I can understand that very well.
But the good news is that Skadude´s keyboard might be the solution for PhatUgly´s problem then!

Me confused: If he didn´t remove these files, but didn´t have an ext-partition on his SD, nothing would happen, or would it cause problems?

i had that issue.. just go into the keyboard settings and set Touch Input as the default (thats the HTC Sense keyboard).. it works fine. then of course you can grab another keyboard of choice (I use SwiftKey personally).
other than that, everything works great. Using Apex Launcher right now with Bricked Kernel 1.1.
Is this Sense or AOKP based?

You're incorrect, dog.
It's Sense-based still. The MIUI.US version is based off of the miui.cn official build, which is still essentially a Sense 3.6 ROM, stripped of just about all Sense features aside from Sense Cam and Touch input.

You sure about that? I always thought that MIUI was AOSP, just like CyanogenMod, just themed. I'm almost 99% positive that MIUI is built from AOSP.

It normally is, but the Sensation build is different. (Same for another that I can't think of atm.) Have you even run this rom or opened it up? Like, look at the camera. Normally MIUI has their own camera, but the Sensation build has the Sense cam. And the Sense keyboard as well. When you mess with the touch input, a lot more sense features start showing up.

Yea, I just flashed it 10 minutes ago. It works great, and the keyboard fix works. I haven't played with it to much yet, just thought I would share the link for those that did not know that it exists for the Sensation.

Very well. I was unaware of that. Either way, it's MIUI.
Just for verification for everyone, this version IS Sense based. Thanks GoCkillaz for the information. I spent the last 15 minutes translating the Chinese site with Google Translate to verify...LOL!
Anyone tried different kernals with this yet?
Any sense kernel will work. You can use bricked to get sweep2wake. But for me, and miuiandroid version had really poor battery life. There is a problem with the rom not letting the system enter full sleep mode.
Please report back with battery on the .us version.
Cheers

I suggest using faux's most recent kernel. If you want S2W, use Bricked.
Also, there's a bug with the SMS on that ROM as well. If you send a message and immediately turn the screen off, the message will send, but a notification will pop up and say that it didn't send.
Guys, don't expect any Sensation specific bugs to be addressed from the official ROM unless they are explicitly harmful to the system itself (like keyloggers, bootloops, etc). If you want individual issues addressed, try and contact a dev on XDA, rootzwiki or MoDaCo and have them fix it for you. The MIUI team still hasn't implemented the MIUI camera on this rom, and at the rate they're trying to churn out MIUI ports as to complete, bug-free, fully featured MIUI ROMs, I doubt that they ever will.
If you want a MIUI-like experience on a better rom (such as AOKP), download MIUILauncher from the Market (the official MIUI one), MILocker, and GOSMS. Sorta the same.
Have a nice day, y'all. And thanks to OP for alerting XDA members to the existence of V4 MIUI, since MIUI.US seems to have dropped off the face of the planet.
MIUIandroid has a specific forum page for Bugs, and many of the bugs get listed as "in progress" which tells me they are fixing sensation and device specific bugs.
I believe the decision to use HTC camera came from the base being from Sense.....having said that I find it WAY faster than any sense rom I've tried. I can even get better fluid speed underclocked on it (that was my effort to try to rectify the battery issue).
At any rate, they do have full sensation support which tells me their will be a complete, bug free, fully featured version available as they implement their weekly updates.
Cheers

My next build is only support for HTC CN CHS.
You can build a rom from source. plz add zh_CN (Chinese Simplified) support. THX!

I havent tested this yet - I will this evening. but. if this works.. THANK YOU. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH FOR FIXING THE DIALPAD.
although I still think the "end call" onscreen button is not necessary.
We need to figure out how to map the End Call button(the red physical button) to end the call(if you havent already) and the number keys(physical keys) need to also input on the dialpad just as they do in CM9(again, havent tested yet. if they do, you're amazing. )
The "Call" or Green physical button should call the number onscreen, or from the home screen it should open the recently called list.
If you can fix all this stuff(or have already) I'll give you money. lol
Am I dreaming? This is amazing news! WOW. WOW. Great. Need to test this asap! Hopefully someone build one for us using your source. To who that would make a build for us: do not forget TURKISH language please!

By the way, why not you make builds for EU, too? I mean, It shouldn't take some time for you to add a couple of more languages whenever you make a new build.
MD5sum: 5b7ccba99f8b63087696568c85070808
I didn't fix the screen layout of the dialpad. that have been fixed by CM10.1
I want to ask, are you working on front cam? All the problems other than front cam seems solvable to me.
So you have made to first custom kernel for the ChaCha?
Do you intend to work on the kernel? Because even if you don't update the ROM, but you keep the kernel source updated I can build it and make a flashable zip.
The battery life is probably a kernel issue right?
Edit: running it now. The slow wakeup bug from CM10 is fixed. Everything is great, except for battery. I hope there is a breakthrough with that. Thanks for the ROM!

So these updates include the fixes that OWLProject offers for Wildfire S? In this build of yours there is lag and now I see it is fixed in wildfire s.
Flashed this rom yesterday, looks some of the issues with CM 10 is fixed with 10.1.
If you are looking for gapps for 10.1, the slim version can be found in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265564
I don’t see major issue with battery drain, it got discharged 25% after 12 hours of usage without wifi or data.
a) Lock screen is completely fixed with CM10.1 and fits wells within the screen
b) In call screen is neatly tailored for landscape
c) Apollo player works in landscape
Some of the things which needs fix
a) Caller id screen is overlapped, and it is very difficult see the caller info
b) Many of the popular application in playstore says ‘This item is not compatible with your device’ example ‘gmail’, ‘apex launcher ‘ etc
c) The proximity sensor is not working.
overall its superb rom, and it alomost complete rom. Thanks bro

Turns out lcd density is set to 150, which should be 160. I changed it back to 160 and it solved my problem.

Oh, I see so you have to work on a different kernel. I see. I want to ask something else. There are some lags, especially occuring in lockscreen and also on the system generally. I see in the wildfire s forums, this was a problem with the kernel and it was fixed a couple of days ago. You said you updated, kernel, device and vendor. Does that mean you applied this fix? Because, I'm setting up environment to build from your gits so, when I pulled the repo from you, will this fix be applied on the kernel?

OWL-Predator-KERNEL updating too often to catch
I wonder, can we use the kernel from the other CM10 rom? would that fix any performance issues? it would likely result in some of the things fixed to be broken again(camera? I dunno) but in terms of battery life and whatnot, I wonder if it would work
That having been said - I tried out the rom, it's very fast, smooth, it does drain the battery faster, but its not -too- bad. I think this has to do with there being no options for governor(or at least, none that I could find)
The rom has fixed most of the layout issues with the ChaCha. The dial screen is very nice, and the physical keys input once again. The lock screen fits properly now too.
I'll definitely have to do some more testing, but theres a few things that need to be fixed still. One is the LCD density in the build.prop - it causes some issues with certain apps.
EDIT: I also just noticed that while the phone is locked, the cpu must get set to a lower clock speed or something. The phone is very slow to respond when you go to unlock it.

Using kernel-kitchen you can extract the ramdisk from the CM10 boot.img and then extract the zImage from the CM10.1 boot.img and then combine the resulting zImage and ramdisk. I'm not sure if that makes sense. I'll try it sometime this weekend.

well, I can't be positive as of yet, because I just installed it, but I just grabbed the CPU editor thing from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846967
I set it to On-Demand, changed the minimum frequency a tiny bit higher than the default, and set the max to 800. So far it seems like its better on the battery, but again, just installed it like 20 minutes ago, so I'll have to give it some time in testing.

then go back "Settings" ,there have show "Performance" .
AND in "Processor" you will see this rom default setting is On-Demand.

CONFIG_MSM_CPU_FREQ_ONDEMAND_MIN=122880

I don't understand the "very fast, smooth" part. It is not like that for me. Rom is occasionally lagging. When scrolling especially. Sometimes it freezes completely. I believe it's kernel related.

KatKiss ROM - Asus TF101
Lollipop 5.1.1 Release 24
Please note that this version is made and tested on the TF101 model.
This rom is an aosp based rom with my own additions on top of it.
The main motto of the rom being Kiss. Even though the Meerkat could give you a kiss, it stands for Keeps it Sweet and Simple too
Which means that just like the other K.A.T stuff, the rom's main goal is efficiency, speed/responsiveness,
while not adding bloated features that will slow things down

Tips
First Install
Make sure you do a full wipe the first time you install the rom
If you get error code 9XX when installing an app in the PlayStore, make sure that you format /data
(wipe doesn't format)
The first boot after a rom flash is slower than with 4.4.4 and can take a few minutes as ART is slower than dalvik to optimize the applications, but is faster after the 1st time.
(First boot takes ~2-3 minutes without gapps and 5+ minutes with gapps)
Also keep in mind that after a fresh install, it might take a bit of time to get up to full speed as media scanner & google are checking/scanning and restoring stuff.
VPN
VPN works only with lollipop updated "low level" third party apps like VPNRoot for example.
Youtube
Latest youtube will work ok with res < 720p.
720p might work if autoselected directly, but will most likely fail / stutter.
Using an older version of Youtube fixes these issues.
Hardware keyboard layouts
More languages have been added in the default asusec keyboard
Set the keyboard layout through Settings => Language & Input => asusec => setup keyboard layouts
These also allow live switching without reboot with ctrl + space
Global Key Override/Shorcut Mecanism
Available in Settings => Dock => Add Key Override Actions
This will allow you not only to redefine function keys assignment, and other special keys actions,
but you'll also be able to assign global macro actions / app launch to any key + Meta key combination (shift Left or Right , ctrl..)
You can also add multiple actions to one key combination, simply click again on the "+" button for the same key combination.
For example if you want to assign to one key combination a list of action to run before going to bed for example, like: turn wifi off, Bluetooth off, mute sound, and turn screen off, you can do that
Note that starting multiple applications with one key is kinda a miss and hit for the moment due to some mecanism in android that seems to prevent applications to start too close to each others.
GPS:
if it is taking a long time to get a lock or no lock, follow this:
Install the latest K.A.T app
Then follow precisely this procedure:
1) Location Settings
- Go to Settings => Location => turn OFF (top right switch)
- Turn it back ON
- Make sure you agree to let google access the location.
- Make sure the current selected mode is High accuracy
2) Launch the new K.A.T app
- make sure you grant it root access
- make sure you have internet access
- go to the install menu, Check the "Install GPS quicker fix + Assistance
- Click the Install button
- Make sure it says "Install Finished"
3) Reboot
4) Wait that it has finished booting and launching all the stuff you have starting at boot
5) Start your GPS app outside with a clear sky line, to speed things up stay in range of the wifi / internet connection.
Do not let the gps app loose focus when it is trying to get a fix.
Do not let your tablet sleep / turn off the screen either.
Doing that here, the first time and with a cold gps start, and even staying in my house,
I get a 6 sat fix within 30 seconds and 11 sat fix in 1min 15seconds.
From there subsequent fixes takes about 3 seconds to grab 7 sats and about 10 seconds to reach the 10-11 sat fix
(you still want to let it sit outside for a bit after the 1st fix, so that the ephemeris data gets consolidated and updated to help faster fix later on)
Flash & HTML5 Video
Flash is not supported by default on Lollipop, you can still use it with Dolphin Dolphin Browser:
Install Dolphin Browser, install or activate Dolphin JetPack in settings, install the latest flash plugin.
Sites are migrating slowly to HTML5 video use the default browser & other webkit based browsers for HTML5 video support
Storage (fstrim) and Database optimization:
Fstrim is native since 4.3 and will happen in the background if your tablet is idle / sleeping and that your battery is > 70%
There is also a script to run it manually in the rom: /etc/kat/optimizestorage
To optimize the Database: /etc/kat/optimizedb
To run both, open a terminal and run:
su
/etc/kat/optimize
MultiWindow
Multiwindow allows you to split the screen in 2 vertically (while in landscape) or horizontally, you can switch an app back and forth between multiwindow mode and regular mode while it's running.
MultiWindow
NavBar:
- To switch between full screen and split View you can use the
NavBar Button
(It will lay apps alternatively in one SplitView spot then the other.)
- To change focus simply Tap on the app or use the
NavBar Button
That button can also be used in non multiwindow mode to switch quickly between the 2 most recent apps.
Global Actions
Actions to switch the app between fullscreen / splitview, switch between the 2 most recent apps and to force the splitview slot have been added
so you can bind them to a key / key combination with the Global KeyOverride or long press on navbar button too.
Note: Most apps works ok in splitview mode, but some of them might not refresh correctly sometime.
Same when rotating the screen while in splitview mode.
To force a refresh simply tap the app or if you have 2 apps in split, just click twice on the switch to last app button:
to force it to relayout

Update :-
I did Factory Reset and /system even though I am already on latest KatKiss 4.4 (time to do some cleaning up its been a while)
Flashed #008 and gapps.
First boot takes a bit of time.
Issues :-
1) Always getting the "The SU Binary needs to be updated". I have updated a couple of times via SuperSU but still the same.
2) Keep on prompting "Unfortunately Google Search has stopped".
Holy crap....lollipop really Tim......
Seriously?
Wow, there is really something wrong with you, timduru.. Lollipop for the old TF101? if you weren't developing for this device, I wouldn't know what to do with it.. Since KatKiss ICS your builds have been such a joy for my heart and my Transformer! Keep it up and many thanks!

I had the same thing with 4.4.4 last week. After 2 or 3 updates, it seems fixed.
The binary was updating every time I had an update on play store.
