How to restart from freeze without if battery is unremovable? - HTC One S

I have the Mytouch 4G and I rely on removing the battery if my phone freezes since thats the only way I can restart it.
Since the battery cant be removed on the One S. Is there another way of restarting? Will this be an issue? I don't want to have to wait for the battery to drain to 0 to get is working again. :[

I don't have an answer for you but I am wondering: you've actually ran into a snag where your phone froze?! I haven't even seen my phone lag between frames yet. (Although that may be due to my less-intensive use of the phone)
Edit: Actually have you tried holding the power button for 10 seconds?

No, my mytouch phone freezes. I'm just asking if the one s does happen to freeze because of a bad rom or whatever, how do I restart it. I dont own a one s yet.

Believe me, I've considered it. Not for a reboot, but because I hate carrying a charger with me. The non-removable battery is the one thing I dislike the most about this phone. That and everything has white backgrounds so battery drain is worse. They should have inverted the colors for Sense 4.0 to take better advantage of the AMOLED benefits.

Non removable battery is no issue. Just like tablets it has a reset option. Just hold down power button as mentioned above.
There are roms where you can have dark aosp screens while keeping key elements of sense. I use Zero One S 2.0 rom aosp theme.
Battery life on the One S has been awesome! HTC has done a great job with this phone-minus storage

Just press power button and keep pressed since buttons flashes a few times.

This is requires a MOD to the ROM (I've seen it only in cyanogen ROM's in versions 2.2 and 2.3) I would love to see it as well....

Sounds like a huge battery drain. As often as I turn my screen on and off it would destroy my battery life to have an animation run everytime my screen went black. Cool idea but with the battery life we have on our phones I'm not sure the cool factor would out weigh the drainage.

It's a very good point to bring up, but if you take a look at it right now it's actually already animated. It fades out and in upon lock/unlock.
What he's referring to (probably) is the t.v. power off animation (so basically it just shrinks the image down to the center of the screen before disappearing (like an old t.v) (seems to take the same amount of time the stock one takes)
I would think these would be about the same as far as battery usage, but I really don't have math to back it up.

Hmm very possible. I really hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it. It's very quick but I guess it does fade some. I just assumed that was how the screen powered up though.

That totally could be true also, but my main point (hope) is that the T.V. animation is pretty much the same as it has now, just neater looking
Yes, the TV screen animation is exactly the one that my friend has. It's very quick and I don't think would take up a lot of battery. It would be great to see this as an add-on.
That would be awesome, I love how it looks when using cyanogenmod nightlies on the Droid.

[Q] Inspire 4G won't turn on, only blinking orange light is any sign of life

I bought an Inspire 4G off craigslist and the seller stated the phone wouldn't turn on but I was hoping I could fix it. This is what I discovered:
1) The phone won't turn on, no white boot screen, nothing
2) When I press the power button there is a light that blinks rapidly and it's orange at the top left of the earpiece, not green like I've read online about. Its stops blinking when I let go of the power button.
3) When I have the phone plugged into the wall charger the orange light blinks again constantly, very rapidly.
4) I tried connecting the phone to my computer through USB and it wouldn't recognize it.
Anyone have any idea what might be the problem or what I can do to fix it?
I would leave it on charge for a while then follow brick instructions in sticky, had a bad flash that did that
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
How much did you pay for it? Haha and yeah I tottaly agree with ^^^ let it charge for a while.
I've had the same thing happen to me a few times, and all I had to do was pull out the battery and then everything went back to normal.
rboone - how long is a while? I left it charging last night for about 7 hours lol.
ThEiiNoCeNT - I paid $100.
zamula - I pulled the battery out too. I tried everything I could think of. I wanted to try to connect it to my computer to unbrick it but it wouldn't recognize it, I haven't tried ODIN or anything like that, but it didn't recognize it through "My Computer". When you take the battery cover off does the battery just slide out? Mine slides out, it doesn't click in or anything.

Did the person you bought it from offer any kind of hint as to what happened to the phone that caused this condition?
Probably not pre-sale, but now that he has your money, perhaps he'll be more willing to open up about it.

Something I noticed now is that the orange light doesn't blink when I press the power button without the phone plugged in, it did earlier with the phone plugged in and without it plugged in (just running on battery). Not sure if that's good or bad.

Yea, I just checked the indicator and it's read. Water damaged! I tried to find the water damage indicator yesterday when I bought it but couldn't see it.
So...is it too late to try the rice in the bag trick? The orange light flickers...I'm wondering if that means anything positive.
If it is water damaged and you have no chance of turning it on I would throw it in rice anyways...

Ok, I'll try it. Take the phone apart and drop the pieces in rice? Put the phone without the battery in it in the bag of rice? or put the phone with the battery in it with the pieces on it as well (battery cover, sim card/sd card cover)?
I heard dropping it in rubbing alcohol helps too...should I avoid this and just try the rice?

It seems normal, as long as it still works...I returned my first one due to having a really crooked one bt the build on that one was awesome, I got this one with a perfectly level tight power button bt then u got that creek on da bottom right tho(doesn't really bother me tho as I don't normally press the screen that hard anyway with normal use). Seems like with these units is a give n take. My suggestion is if that's th e only "problem" u have with da fone, n the button still functions obviously, I would keep it...otherwise try n exchange it n possibly get one with worse issues, say dust in tha screen, (as it seems most new ones from china have this problem).
So its a decision u make if u think u can live wit it

Trigger Reboot if frozen (3 Finger Salute)

I looked around the forum and could not find an answer. Basically, I'm looking for the button combo that will force reboot the phone. Sometimes, I get SOD (Screen of Death) and need to reboot the phone. I want an alternative to pulling the battery.....
I did read on a website that was talking about tips and trick, hold the power button down and it will do a soft reboot. Haven't tried it though, could be bs.

It's BS.....didn't work. Anyone else know how to trigger a reboot on our phone? My old Droid Incredible did it by holding the Power, Vol Down, and Menu key (I think)....I feel like this phone should have something similar. Nobody likes pulling the battery!
If the software is truly locked up, nothing is going to force reset it except cutting off the power source (pulling the battery). Be thankful we can do that on our phones, iPhone users have been dealing with this for years and have to wait for the battery to die.

Research those 3-finger salute methods. They truly are fail safes when your phone completely locks up. Devs describe it as the end all (battery pulling replacement). Although it might be considered a hidden feature on most phones, I'm sort of surprised nobody has discovered how to do it on the S3.

Friend's iPhone locked up, power+home for 10-15 seconds restarted it without issue. Also, if it is a 4/4s/5 it is easy to take apart so you could unplug the battery from the board if you were desperate.

I second this and we'll add on my RAZR when it locked up all I had to do was hold both volume and power (I think that was out). Having said that I don't get why you wouldn't just pull the battery in this'd phone.
Sent from my SCH-I535
I could pull the battery...and currently do when my S3 freezes. Sadly, doing this is rather cumbersome for my situation. To remove the battery:
1. Remove case which is tightly bound to phone.....I foresee repeated removal will harm case.
2. Remove battery backing from phone.
3. Remove small metal disc I've placed in between phone backing and battery. This metal disc is part of a Magnetic Car Mount I use (very slick). Placement of this metal disc is specific to avoid NFC issues.
Given all that, battery removal is a total PITA. I don't think I'm alone here.......I imagine the vast majority of people would prefer a button-hold combination to force restart their phone in the event of a freeze. I believe this is the very reason the method was created. Nobody likes removing their battery....especially after knowing other phones have more elegant methods of force restarting. Furthermore, I have a strong feeling the S3 DOES HAS such ability. It is just a matter of discovering what the proper combination is.....maybe its 2-button hold.....maybe 4-button hold....I just don't know. That is why I'm here asking.
I didn't mean anything by saying that, I forget all the stuff people have on their phones because I run mine bare. I'm sure there is a way to do it just seems like no one knows it. I'll say the one or twice mines froze up it rebooted itself after a little bit.
Sent from my SCH-I535
Before I bought the GS3 I had an HTC One S and the battery wasn't able to be removed. If you held the power button for like 10+ seconds it would force reboot the same way power + home on iphone forces reboot. It seems crazy to me that you can't do that on every phone. I mean phone manufactures have to anticipate phones freezing up every once in a great while. How do they expect them to restart? Expecting a customer to remove the case and the phone backing to pull the battery seems like a terrible way to solve this.

You have to hold power, vol+- for about 5 to 10 seconds, to power down idk how to force a reboot. But this method is good enough for me. I use it all the time it works on tw and aosp Roms. Sometimes it powers down around the 5 second time and sometimes it takes longer ldk why, guess it depends on how locked up you are.

It's weird that this function would be ROM specific. I specifically remember this function was a constant across ALL ROMS on my Droid Incredible. Pisses me off I can't perform this reset on CM10....then again, its still kinda phasing bugs out..so who knows.

Interesting, I tried all of the combinations given in this thread and they did not work. Of particular importance though, this three finger salute method is still reliant on software working to control it. I don't know how it is controlled in other devices, but if the software that controls it is locked up, nothing is going to reset it except for pulling the battery.
I did it just now by just holding down the power button for about 10 seconds. I'm running slim bean rom.

Didn't work on CleanROM 5.0. I would think if there is truly a software reset on our devices, it must be controlled separately from the ROM and should be the exact same combination regardless of what ROM you are running.

This is correct. But if it doesn't work physically disconnecting the battery for about a minute could help also. I recently had a vivid that was acting all stupid and after trying all the tricks, I removed the battery and everything has been fine. Probably static electricity in my case. If you are still under warranty don't open it up though to remove the battery, it will void your warranty, just get it replaced if you still can't fix.
