I just got a Nexus S 4G today. converted from ATT to Sprint.
I use a Clearwire internetmobile usb also.
Stock, my 4g worked in and outside my house, great. I have experience rooting many phones and flashing many roms for friends family and myself, but never played with 4g.
I rooted with oneclick root in the 4g dev section, and used the rom cm7 from the same section. everything works great except it no longer picks up or finds the 4g connection. my clear finds it and they are the same wimax.
is there any reason why it doesnt work, or some sort of workaround?
Sprint Nexus S 4g.
So after installing CM7 on my EVO4G I lost all ability to send/receive MMS. The reason behind this, I suspect, is that the OTA capability for Sprint phones isn't a simple *228 like Verizon, but is in the settings menu, and in CM7 the option to perform an OTA signal update is not present. Is there a workaround for this? I reverted to a Sense based ROM (Swagged Out Stock) but it goes into a boot loop at least once a week.
Just curious to see if the issue has been resolved/patched in CM7 or if the feature has been added in a newer release.
Bump for help?
Anyone at all? I'd love to go back to cm. Miui is terrible.

I currently have a EVO 3D unlocked/S-OFF. I was curious if someone can explain this question to me? My guess is that it connects to the 'next' network and it might or might not get data/voice and try another.
Is it the sprint version of the EVO 3d or a gsm? If sprint, what is your PRL number?

I have the Sprint version of the EVO 3D. I am currently running a custom ROM (DisarmedToaster CM10) with no support for PRL that I know of. I have other ROM's with PRL support but I do not really run them. I just would like to know how a custom ROM makes the decision to roam and what network to try to roam on.
The PRL itself determines who you roam on and where it happens. While your rom may not display a PRL, the PRL is still on your phone actively working. AOSP roms like AOKP and CM are not be able to update a PRL so its good to have a compact or "senseless" rom to flash to do such updates since an AOSP rom makes you lose vital tools such as EPST.
I guess to answer your question originally, the rom doesn't use the prl, your phone does. Your phone's network status and PRL determine whether you roam or not. Download a senseless rom or small sense 3.0 rom, do a back up of your current rom and flash this because maybe you need to update your PRL to maybe a corporate one. There is a prl thread on the 3d forums somewhere with a PRL claimed to be a corporate that allows roaming without it being counted as roaming. Then you can restore your old rom.
Hope that helps.

i just got a s2 i727 and came from the lg motion i had no problems with 4g speeds in my town with the lg ..my s2 is unlocked and rooted with ucli3 modem, and aokp rom andriod version 4.0.4...i work in san jose and have 4g great speedswith the s2 but at home i get e on top bar...can someone poin me in the right direction..am i using a outdated modem?wrong rom?never had issues with my lg motion....
Yes your radio/modem file is old buy not a deal breaker. Try using UCMC1.(read up on it here on xda all your answers are here).
Another thing you'd wanna make sure you get right is APN settings for your carrier.
Go on GSMARENA.COM and find skyrocket, check out the frequencies I believe it has lte 4,17 so I don't know which one metro uses but you can find a wiki on that too so you know once you've taken care of modem and APN settings whether there is physical band incompatibility present.
Cheers,

You'll find all the roms and radios in there:

Can we flash the other roms listed to our phones or are the roms too different? I still haven't figured out the differences in all the models yet. (yeah I'm not to bright)

They must be for j700t or j700t1. Almost all other j7 variants either have 1.5gb ram or different radios.

That's kinda what I thought but wanted to get it right in my head as well as putting it out there nice and plain for everyone else.

Well. A sprint rom would work on boost mobile and virgin mobile youd just need the stock apn settings or a apn fix zip.. not sure about tmobile unless they made metro pcs just like tmobile where youd just need a apn fix for the rom like how sprint is with boost mobile and virgin mobile.

Apn settings aren't really an issue. Look them up online.
What I was referring to was the variants that have 3g or 4g only. No LTE or designed with a certain region in mind so certain bands aren't even there.
For the record, I don't truly believe the ram differences matter but it's Samsung. You never know.

It would be something like this but not all apns are listed online my apn for boost mobile is not listed anywhere online and i cant get the apn settings to show me what the info is so i would need a apn fix to flash right after flashing a sprint rom... if youre trying to get 4g in a area with no 4g the only way to do that would be to have a unlocked phone and switch to the carrier who has 4g lte... if theres no 4g lte towers then it will be impossible to actually get a 4g signal...

You're partially right in that if there are no LTE towers then you won't get LTE.
If there is a tower, then all carriers are able to use it according to the FCC.
I'm talking about the modem and the firmware on the device itself. Some have LTE without certain bands enabled. Some have 4g (3.5g+ otherwise known as fauxgee) and there are some with only 3g.
If you start messing with flashing modems, you're risking a brick situation.
Original question here had to do with flashing roms designed for other j7 variants was okay for j700t(1).
I say no because of the above reasons I gave.
I say wait. Roms are coming for the T and T1.
