Aloha folks!
This is my first post ever on xda forum although I have been following it for a year now.
First of all, I'd like to thank all the devs and posters for their selfless sharing. I always felt guilty for just taking and not giving.
This is where I learned all about rooting and flashing roms. But as I have zero knowledge in computong or programming I was always reluctant to post anything.
Well I've used both Vanilla ICE and BlindICE roms. But I couldn't grasp which of the two was more suitable for me. I'm a heavy texter and a casual gamer. Sometimes running 3d games. And I've had freezes and reboots on both roms. Not just from gaming.
Is there a a difference in performance for a casual user like me?
Which Roms do you guys use and why?
Sent from my Desire S using XDA
I found them both buggy and have removed them from my device, for a good no frills rom Cyanogen is always a good bet.
Blind ICE any day.
The pace of development on Blind ICE is really fast
Both will have issues with heavy graphics due to kernel issue.
So basically its your choice.
Vanilla is direktly from source, so it should be faster then blind ice but its your choice...

You are wrong here , vanilla ice is a port from galaxy nexus, while blind ice is a port of nexus s.
The only aokp from built from source for desire s is tectas's unofficial aokp.

Ok so I just got the MT4G yesterday and before I flash it to custom rom I just wanted to know which is the most popular rom used by folks here, so vote and comment on it as pro/con would be helpful.
This is going to be hard to keep up as the ROMS are changing all of the time and you are missing 2 out of my 3 ROMS. I'm using the Evil Desire HD one one, cm7alpha on another, CM7 Nexus from Jaywan on another.

What is the difference between Evils desire hd port, and gorrilas? i use evils as of now
I use Iced Glacier, but I haven't actually tried any others. It is my first root/flash, and I just went with something that was not too drastic of a change and yet still pretty well received.
Well Bob I am aware of the CyanogenMod but only reason I didn't post it as CM7 is still under alpha. I need stable rom I am not going back to flashing rom every week lol hell I had rom every day for a month once was a pure flash addict
Then again HD2 does that to you as I am already missing the superior hackability of WinMo. Now alot of fanboy can cry all day about Android but fact is WinMo has better control once you know what you are doing and have basic knowledge.
Initially I did want CM based rom but I can't be using 6.x based ill wait for CM7 stable release before I go with it but till than I might go Evil 4G or Iced Glacier.

I agree I remember you from the HD2 section. I built many of roms for WM but now I'm almost Android noob stupid. Or it feels that way. The evil HD ROM is good my wife runs it and it is very stable. The others I'm playing with for fun.
Well so far after 24hour usage of the phone it does seem okay but I already miss the big display of HD2 hell when I go to setup widgets tells me don't have enough real state space on the screen :O But the phone is super stable.
I am very satisfied so far with the color scheme also I guess 16M vs 65k does that lol. Also the boot time is like 5sec which is crazy but I do suspect its false as its not full cold boot I am guessing as it could be some type of hibernation thus never fully shut the phone down. So when user starts it all it does is fast boot and recover it from NAND.
Still have 13 days maybe I will return it who knows I mean I am checking the CES 2k11 phones and dual core would be nice. I just hope they get with 4.3" screens IDK wtf HTC make dumb decisions. No DHD GSM based and the only phone that does have near same spec is MT4G but with small screen.
Hey guys,
I know that developing is in its early stages (doh, it came out yesterday haha), but I just wanted to let our beloved devs that we really really want to have a rom that is AOSP. Sense is a good eye candy, but I am sure that there are many of us in here that would like to get the maximum out of this beast of ours, and I think that AOSP android would give us all that.
Either that, or MIUI ROM - just something different than the Sense 3.0
I am also including a poll - to see if its just me with the desire of getting a non-sense rom ( and by that I mean AOSP, not just removed htc.sense and adding launcher pro ).
I love CyanogenMod as much as the next guy, but I remember that on my MT4G - the AOSP version used to run even better than the cm7.
I kinda liked Sense once I got it, but now I am getting tired of it - its just too much! I want a plain phone, that works like the hardware was meant to be.
I'm waiting for CM7
+1! would absolutely LOVE to see miui on my sensation!
I'm waiting for any ROM that is AOSP or atleast something different from sense.

MIUI would be wonderful!
I don't get the hype for MIUI. I have only seen it in videos but it looks pretty ugly to me. Why would you want to trade in Android OS for an iPhone wannabe?
I like MIUI because it was simple. I guess the biggest reason would be that it was just different. Another one would be that I liked the way some of their apps worked. Such as Miui music.
Honestly for the sensation I'd like to see all of the above. I get bored a lot and to alleviate that I tend to flash different roms often.
AOSP would be heaven, but I doubt that you'll beat kmobs to the punch.

not CM7 perse, but a good AOSP or AOSP based rom is needed to create MIUI. This is from the MIUI forums regarding a port to the Sensation.
Great...
i want to see miui on my htc sensation...
I'll be waiting...
I voted for CyanogenMod, ASOP and MIUI ;-)
Not big on monogamy at this point, I want all.
Waiting patiently.

Be patient, they're working on it. Kmobs has the basics working but they won't release until it's ready.
I check download.cyanogenmod.com and sensation development like 3 times a day, lol.

I'd love CM7.1 to work on our Sensation.... did try the test rom in the Development forum and apart from not being able to turn on the bluetooth, and losing a few settings like Internet Sharing, it feels pretty complete....

Could be me... Voted for CM7
Former Nexus S user here.
AdamG cooked up some delicious OxygenROM for the NS. Supposedly one of his cohorts is porting Oxygen to the Sensation. Hopefully that makes it here because it was an incredibly fast and lightweight AOSP rom.
oh I can't wait for CM7 on my Sensation.... I like Miui too but not nearly as much as CM7. I really miss RoyalGinger that I had on my MT4G, I almost wish I'd of waited to buy my sensation until CM7 dropped for it.
Stupid request, wait and give devs the time they need for there awesome work for all of us.
By the way, c-mod is much more greater for every device because they're developing than stolen c-mod stuff modded by miui "devs".

I haven't used cyanogenmod since cm5, and want that impressed with features. I'll sure many more have been added since then and hope to see it soon. Some of the plain aosp apps kind of suck vs the manufacture flavor though. hopefully the latest CM builds have many bulls info them. I do prefer vanilla ish (launcherpro) vs manufacture launchers though

MIUI music is the coolest modded music player out there...and MIUI is fun to tinker with and reminds me of iOS...used to be a Dev so it makes it nostalgic..plus you can change so many things without coding or fussing
As the title says - is it a leap forward or backwords?
Especially I would like to ask you owners if there are enough ROMs and Kernels and development for this phone.
The only way to know if to buy a phone nowadays is to ask if it has a good community of DEV in XDA
I love MIUI - so I want to also know if MIUI is supported
THANK YOU ALL
I think it's a step forward and we have 3 miu roms and I think there is an icecream sandwich miui build. Not sure.
Don't forget to tell us what ur decision is.

Definitely a leap forward!
Development on our beloved G2x has come to a snail pace, but we've got weekly updated MIUI builds along with CM7, so what else could you need?
Definetly a leap forward, G2x ****s all over that other phone, only reason development has slowed down is cuz all the best roms have already been made available with what is to work with atm.

I wouldn't say the G2x sh*ts all over the Vibrant, but its definitely an upgrade.
Ok so I just got my G2x two hours ago. And WOW !!! The performance (and I am talking about daily usual stuff - browsing, email, scrolling, multi-tasking) is absolutely amazing!
Mind you - all stock, and it's super-fast! I love it.
It came with a screen protector and I was kind of disappointed from the screen, but when I took off that shi#y screen protector, the screen POPPED to life! So that's something to remember as well - some SP are horrible!
I am just starting to learn it now, and going over the forums.
If I may add a question here: does the MIUI we have for the G2x takes full advantage of this hardware? In other words, I would hate to sacrifice the speed, the performance of this device. Or is this not a concern?
Thanks all !!!!

Well, gingerbread in general is not optimized for dual core processors. Regardless, you'll still have a wonderful MIUI experience. I'd suggest you head on over to rootzwiki to get @Whitehawkx's MIUI builds, more up to date and I just trust his work more
Well, I thought I'd just make a thread thanking all of the people here at XDA with every little problem I've had (even when I get flamed for being a noob, lol). In four months I've gone from being a guy who knows a little about Andoid and how it work to knowing a s**t-ton about my device, how Android works e.t.c.
First and formost thanks to att1n for the amazing Advance Ace Hack Kit . Amaing piece of software that really unleashed the potential of all our Desire HD's\Inspire 4G's out there! Thanks 1,000,000 att1n!
Thanks to Cyanogen and the team for (possibly) the best ROM out there CyanogenMod7 :good:!Deserves the title of 'King Of All ROM's' for being so freaking versatile!
LordClockan (Sorry if I got the capitalisation wrong, its a pain in the rear) for IceCold Sandwich the best ICS ROM for our devices (although slightly buggy). Only gripes are batter life, touchcreen too responsive (What's up with that?!) and camcorder not working. Other than that, 10 star ROM!:good:
Last but not least; both Chezbel & AlienMind for the UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE BlackICE ROM! I seriously cannot fault this ROM. Been smooth, stable, fast & reliable since the minute I flashed it (use it as a daily driver for my DHD). Cannot thank you guys enough for this ROM and hope you guys bring out an ICS version of it! :fingers-crossed:
That's all I have to say guys!
I don't know about everyone else, but i think this phone has one of the best developers, themes, & modders. I've been running the latest unofficial CM10.2 & it just reminded me of the 4.2.2 builds that preludedrew did back in my Inc2 days.
Shout out to all of our developers

I agree. This phone does seem to have a great community. I certainly haven't had any shortage of a selection for roms, and when roms have bugs they are typically fixed within a few days. The Fascinate also was blessed with a pretty great community, back when I had that.
Could be that I'm just being nostalgic but I really miss the days of my old Incredible. What a huge dev community. Of course it helped that the Evo 4G's community was huge and they had essentially the same phone, but it was a great environment to get involved with Android.
CM7 was rock solid stable, there was a large assortment of different ROM types available like Sense 1.0, 2.1, 3.0, 3.5 and 2.1/3.0 hybrids. It was a great playground for a budding flashaholic.
The GS3 community has been equally as large but doesn't have the ROM variety the Inc had. Essentially on this phone your choices are Touchwiz Nature UX, CM and MIUI. All the TW ROMs are largely the same aside from theming and tweaks. Can't blame the developers for this, as Samsung made it too difficult to backport the newer versions of TouchWiz (and who'd want to anyway?).
I will say that despite these limitations we do have a plethora of choices and it continues to grow month after month.

I understand, because I had the EVO 4G,which to me was the ultimate development phone. We had ports of everything, and it got overwhelming!
But hey... We have sense 5 on this phone now! I don't remember getting TW on my EVO 4G!

I had the Evo 4G and I understand what you mean. In some ways I still miss that phone!
It wasn't just the phone, in pre-ICS days Android was truly an open OS and there were tons of variants, including many Chinese roms. I remember the first day I put on MIUI and it was like everything changed and became better, it was that different and better. Then we had all kinds of CM7/Sense based rom's.
With ICS everything became much harder. It took CM almost a year to get a stable version, older devices like the Evo were abandoned and never fully recovered, and these days its much much harder to get true variety.
The devs and XDA are what keeps Android worth using.

I remember that Evo 4G as well, it did seem as if we were able to run everything that was out at the time. The ports worked pretty good except for wimax aka 4G, but being on sprint at the time it didn't work that well anyway so we weren't missing out on that feature too much. But we move on as the devs move on.
