Hi I'm currently using a T-mobile USA htc Sensation that I have never updated. It is still on Android 2.3.3/software 1.29.531.2. What the phone shipped with a year ago.
I recently unlocked my bootloader by Revolutionary IO method. During the unlocking process my PC actually said "failed go make some lemonade", but the HBoot went from HBoot 1.17.0008 S-on to saying Revolutionary! in Pink and HBoot 1.17.008 S-off. I assume it's still a successful unlock.
Can I now take the T-mobile OTA patches and updates without getting my HBoot relocked or will the upgradeto HBoot 1.27 (permanently) relock the bootloader?
I am thinking about flashing Virtuous Inquisition but I want to wait till this issue of "Sensation suddenly dying on unofficial roms" gets sorted out." In the meantime I would like to take the official T-mobile OTA updates to fix some bugs and improve battery life.
Thank you for your help in advance.
yes ...your SOFF will stay ...but your HBOOT might be locked...but that's not a problem at all as long as you are SOFF...(you can just unlock the HBOOT by just flashing the patched firmware again)

Hello Geeks.
I have recently misled myself by getting my phone back from s-off to s-on before installing the stock RUU on my Sensation XE.
However, i have managed to unbrick the phone and i have a custom ROM running on it while there is S-ON right now.
I was running ICS which means i upgraded the HBOOT from 1.18 to 1.23 and revolutionary does not support this HBOOT version yet.
I want to know if there is a possible way of downgrading the HBOOT version to 1.18 or 1.17 with the S-ON because i cant get S-OFF until its downgraded to something revolutionary supports.
OR
Is there a compatible RUU update utility that will flash my device back to stock and restore everything?
Thanks.
Not until:
1. Revolutionary becomes compatible, or;
2. The ICS RUU is officially leaked, therefore becoming a 'proper' HBOOT in a warranty sense

I'm still writing the guide... trying to make it noob friendly. it includes suicide bricking and downgrading...
detailed guide soon to be here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23078349 stay tuned
Ah, so you have to brick the phone first to downgrade it? Seems a bit severe but at least it's a method.
Surely if someone was silly enough to S-ON with a new HBOOT they will more than likely properly brick their phone??
Two month ago, i did some stupid things and then hboot turned into s-on. Because hboot version is 1.23 which is not supported by revolutionary, i can't upgrade, degrade or s-off the bootloader. So i can't flash any ics rom. I tried to flash ruu. No matter what version of ruu is, it always shows error 155 or else(i tried to relock the bootloader, other error uccured). Now official ics has been released, will latest ics ruu help? my device is asia sea wwe.

Hi,
I'm very familiar with flashing ROMs on phones and have flashed a fair few in my time. I flashed my sisters Desire S a while ago but recently the phone has stopped detecting the SIM card and subsequently has to go back for warranty.
I've flashed a Stock rom over it - trouble is, I now have the locked HBOOT v 2.00.0002 with S-OFF!
Could someone verify if these steps are correct? I'm not too familiar with the Desire S.
1. Downgrade HBOOT to earlier version - 0.98 i think it is.... or 0.68
2. Turn S-ON
3. Flash RUU Stock ROM
I cannot for the life of me downgrade the HBOOT version - I've tried every method out there!
I am very familiar with working in command line on Windows and Linux so don't be afraid to get technical!
Any help is very much appreciated!
Daft question, but have you tried a different Sim?
Does she still have the box?
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
Haha I spent hours debugging the sim card issue and finally came to the conclusion it's a hardware fault!
Yes - tried several different sim cards from two different carriers (this household only uses 2 carriers!)
Also tried several different ROMs/Radios - she was happily using MIUI for months then she just told me it stopped detecting her SIM card - she certainly hasn't been playing with ROMs so I know it's nothing she has done.
Update: Box is long gone

3. Flash RUU Stock ROM
Can I skip the first step? I guess not.
What has me confused is that you flashed the 0.98 hboot and you said it was s on, now you ran the RUU, and its s off....
Did you use revolutionary to get s off or was it s off to start with?
The correct steps would be.. (if you use revolutionary)
1. Use fastboot to flash 0.98.2000 over the revolutionary one.
2. Run correct RUU.
Problem you could run into are cid's of the RUU (make a goldcard to avoid error) and two misc version being higher than RUU.
Thanks for the reply. I never said it was S-on, the phone was running a custom MIUI ROM with S-Off, I flashed a stock rom straight over the top of it by running the RUU (pretty sure I shouldn't have done!) now I have stock ROM with S-Off and locked HBOOT v2.00.0002
I cannot remember if I used revolutionary to get s off originally - it was many months ago, more than likely though. I remember the phone came with S-On and I had to make it S-Off.
I just want to get S-On again with stock rom but it's proving impossible!
So just to clarify, it is currently running stock rom with LOCKED HBOOT v2.00.0002 and S-Off.
I've tried manually overwriting the version with miscinfo, I've also tried the zerg method - all to no avail.
I have NEVER heard of a stock hboot that is s-off, only when the phone was s-off to start with (early models), or if you used a clip.
Flashing the RUU would bring the phone back to completely stock. (if it flashed correctly)

Haha want screenshots? I assure you that's what I've got.
Ran an older RUU which has downgraded my HBOOT to 0.98 or 0.68 (can't remember off top of my head) and am running stock rom, HBOOT says ***locked*** at top and also says S-OFF.
I think I'm getting there now.
Will I get the official OTA update if I have unlocked the bootloader via HTCdev method? Actually, I unlocked the bootloader via HTCdev on my sensation which is still in Android 2.3.4. (At that point I didn't know that doing that would not allow supercid and all that stuff.)
If I will get the update.. I just wanted to know after the official OTA update from HTC, will it be a like a new phone? (yeah, i know it will be factory reset.. but i wanted to know if my bootloader, rooting and etc. Will that remain?)
I want the all the rooting and unlocked bootloader not to stay so that i can start afresh with Revolutionary and flash one of the Sense 4 ROMs.. Please help!!
Thank you!

Yes you will receive OTA and bootloader will remain **unlocked**. All you need to receive OTA is stock rom, stock recovery and original cid (S-OFF or S-ON doesn't matter).
By the way if you are still on android 2.3.4 most probably your Hboot is 1.18 that means you can S-Off using Revolutionary and then supercid, root etc.. (you can revert easily to original cid and stock recovery anytime).
If you upgrade to ICS 4.0 with Hboot 1.27 you won't be able to S-OFF and supercid unless someone will find a solution. Actually Hboot 1.27 is not supported by Revolutionary.
Ota to ICS 4.0 will not factory reset your phone. Your data and apps will be untouched.
Honestly I don't understand if you are rooted or not. Unlocking bootloader by HtcDev doesn't mean you are rooted. Could you please clarify?
Hope it helps.
So I recently bought the HTC Doubleshot/MT4GS. The first thing I did when I got it was start downloading the HTC OTA updates. There were three, and at least one caused the pone to reboot into recovery.
Fast forward a week when I had the time to start looking into custom ROMs, and I now see that HBOOT 1.45.0013 requires the juopunutbear technique to achieve S-Off. I have this HBOOT.
Did I put 1.45.0013 on by running the OTA, or would the phone have already had it? In other words, does the OTA ever update the HBOOT? Did I screw myself out of using revolutionary for easymode S-Off?

OTA Updates do update your hboot so if you didn't already have the 1.45.0013 hboot then yes did make the hboot update to a newer version that would require juopunutbear s-off rather than revolutionary...

Dang... Yeah I'm pretty sure it updated the HBOOT while I was doing those. Just another lesson to RTFM before doing something....
I'm not sure if I want to attempt juopunutbear, but I am interested in flashing another radio as I get either no or poor signal in the two places I'm at the most(home and work)
Remember the golden rule of Android. NEVER OTA if you want to root/S-Off. When I got this phone I had an OTA, but ignored it. Glad I did, otherwise I would have been stuck S-On Xo
