[Q] Rebooting issue with ICS - HTC Desire S

Hi everyone (sorry for the bad english :S)
I have a trouble with ICS Roms (i tried CM9 and IceCold Sandwich) : after full wipe, flashing the Roms and rebooting, i made a restore with Titanum Backup. after this, a reboot is recommended by the app. But , after the reboot, i have a trouble : after typing my PIN code, i have a FC of the phone process, and the booting video (i don't know the name of this.... you know, The little animation), and the dial screen for my PIN code again, then FC of the phone process, etc...
Has someone a solution? i tried to wipe cache and data, but nothing better...
thanks

What ROM you used before?

Maybe I can help, at least, I try to.
1. What version, what ROM did you use when you made the Titanium Backup?
2. Did you restore only the Apps or also System and Data?
If you answer these questions, it might be a lot easier to get the right answers.

I am on Virtuous affinity ROM, it's a sense 3.5 one.
I Restore The app and the system and data, bud i didn't thick the red apps in TB.

[Q] Boot loop on evo with calkulin

Sorry if this has been discussed but apparently the forum search isn't working and these suggested threads aren't exactly what i'm looking for, although i did see one that talks about Fresh 0.2 and boot loop being caused by it.
So anyway, I have this under control, i would just like some answers. Here are my questions as simple as i can ask them:
I would like to get the notification bar included in the calkulin 2 v1.8 rom, it is very nice looking, does anyone know where i can get it without having to flash the rom on my phone?
What causes boot loops(at least only after flashing a rom or restoring files)?
What wipes should I be doing?
Is there something bad about using unrevoked to root your evo?
Is there any similar probs with MyBackup Root?
Here is some information you might find useful:
I rooted with unrevoked 3.2.1 which unlcoks NAND for EVO with froyo(which i have) so yes my hboot screen says S-OFF
I also switched from clockwork to amon ra 2.3 due to some issues.
I have flashed azrael on and it worked with no probs, even with only wiping CACHE, DATA, and DELVIK CACHE.
I did the same wipe for calkulin the first time.
Calkulin starts, i can use the phone. Then I restore apps and data with MyBackup ROot, and it says to reboot.
Once I reboot, the loop begins until i pull the battery(i don't know for sure, but I've never let it go beyond 10 minutes)
So I have restored my nandroid backup and everything is peachy.
Now i tried wiping ALL USER DATA/Factory reset plus the 3 mentioned above(and btw, i don't have an SD ext partition the wipe always says skip)
After flashing calkulin for the second time, i restore files again, reboot, and get the same problem.
I managed to find a thread where this was occurring with CM7(which i have not looked at so i don't know anything about it). Just give some suggestions and veterans and devs please figure this out! this is a big inconvenience!
It's probably worth mentioning that mybackup root worked with azrael(i think i heard that some apps aren't supported in every rom).
Again, I don't get this problem with the original rom or azrael. I was thinking of using the calkulin format all wipe, but i read that it's the same as doing the 4 i did(plus the sd ext, but i don't have that partition so it would be skipped anyway). Please someone figure this out thank you!
ps. i strongly think its mybackup root, but then again, i haven't tried rebooting without restoring anything and i haven't tried titanium backup either.

the application phone force close??!

if you made a nand backup you can go back. Back up your apps again and flash again. Did you do a full wipe while changing roms?

What I do in titanium back up is:
batch back up all my user apps.
Then I manually back up all the green system apps
if you wan't to be 100% sure
back up your contacts the regular way
back up your sms the regular way
full wipe
flash new rom
download titanium back up
batch restore all apps
reboot
what am I getting "com.android.phone has stopped" endless loop
I have a similar issue with the phone app force closing endlessly upon boot up. I can't figure out why, and I'd love any insight as to what might be causing this. If I open the phone app, it will temporarily stop the force close. Another weird side effect is all of the apps are wiped from my home screen as well?
What I've tried:
- wiping user data
- wiping dalvik cache
- wiping partition cache
- fixing permissions
- re-installing the ROM
- I haven't tried re-flashing the bootloader, but should that even matter?
I'm running Virtuous Inquisition ROM on a Sensation Z710e with the latest Bootloader. Haven't seen any other Inquisition users with a similar issue, so I'm assuming it's not a bug with the ROM.
Any suggestions, or a good starting place to look for answers would be great.
Thanks.

Problems with switching ROMs

I am having a problem with switching ROMs on my sensation which just started a few days ago. I am currently running ARHD 3.1.1 and it is very stable and I have had no problems whatsoever, but like many here, I like trying out different and new ROMs. Anyways, I did a backup and installed ARHD 3.6.2, and it was forcing close on several apps, and kept getting soft reboots, so I tried RCMix's, and it would load and automatically install some apps and settings that I had on my previous ROM, and it was working fine, but then I started getting soft reboots when I would open any app, so I tried about 2 other ROMs (S3n5eay/Pyramid3D) and same thing, so being fed up I restored my backup and then I began to have superuser problems, so I unistalled updates, cleared data, and still was unable to gain root access. I kept clearing data, installed superuser 2.3.6 then 3.02 and finally got root again, but everytime I reboot I lose root. I then again tried different ROMs, and same thing is happening. I have used superwipe script, ARHD's wipe script, P3D wipe script, formated from CWM, and no matter what, I am still unable to keep a new ROM and keep losing root with my backup. I'm sorry for a long post, but can anyone please help me figure this out. I have upgraded ROMs many a times in the past on this phone and others, and have never experienced these problems, so can someone please help me.
I kinda had the same problem with you, with that being root was the problem. But the ROM's are pre-rooted so that shouldn't be a problem. Try to flash the root file again, until it is succesfull flashed.
Thanks. I'll go ahead and try that.

Geez, that sounds horrible, man. It never ceases to surprise me how different every one of these seemingly identical devices are.

Well for the most part everyone downloads different software. For that just one of the factors that make us all somewhat "different" this is why everyone has some sort of problems here and there.
Most times a fix can be a reboot or reinstall of the app. Even clearing of caches helps because of data conflicts on the phone. Especially when someone like me that flashes different ROMS, that's why nandroids and backups are key so that if you fudge up your phone, you can always revert back to your nandroid.
And for all the people who are trying to revert back to their nandroid after flashing a different rom, you need to use the wipe data scripts in ARHD or Coredroid to reformat the ext4 before reverting your nandroid. Just a FYI.
All I know is that wiping everything before flashing a new ROM does not guarantee that you won't get FCs and soft reboots.
For example, I did a factory reset, wiped cache, wiped dalvik, and then did superwipe (yes I know redundant), and then flashed a ROM and I thought nothing could go wrong. Then while setting up I went ahead and setup my google account during the setup process, and once I was finished I began restoring my apps+data from Titanium Backup. While that was happening Market started auto-reinstalling my apps, and this instantly conflicted with the fact that I was doing the same thing from TB. It caused a few of my apps to FC all the time. So make sure you skip adding your google account during setup.
You can also get stuff to go haywire if you restore system data from TB. Doing so will conflict with the ROM and cause FCs and reboots. For example, I didn't know how to easily back up texts and contacts for a while, and I would go in to TB and restore everything that said something like mms, messages, texts, messages widget, etc. and doing so actually caused my messages to go haywire. Same thing with contacts. The only things you should be restoring from TB are your user apps+data. As already noted, you should also superwipe before restoring a nandroid because it is exactly like flashing a new ROM. If you're on a ROM you just flashed that has 1 version of superuser, and then you go straight into recovery and restore a nandroid without wiping everything first (and has a different version of superuser), you're going to get issues with superuser.
The rule of thumb when it comes to avoiding FCs and reboots is to avoid letting data conflict. Don't mix ROM data, don't mix app data, don't restore system settings from your old ROM on your new one, etc.
Believe me, I have attempted everything without any success. I guess I'm going to stay on my current ROM until I get the time to deal with all of this, and hoping that for whatever reason I don't have to reboot my phone, or that it randomly reboots in order not to deal with the problems. I have always wiped going/coming from different ROMs, but have never experienced this before, and it is very frustrating especially when I like to try different developers mods. I'll keep attempting to try to figure this out, and if I find a solution, I will update.

Keep trying different ROMs and different strategies of when you wipe/restore stuff. It's quite interesting that theoretically identical phones can have different responses to the exact same actions. 2 people can install a ROM in the exact same way and for 1 it will work, the other it won't. You just gotta work it out until you figure out how to manage your particular issues.
Yeah, I hear you. It's just very frustrating when in the past I have switched ROMs on all the phones that I have ever owned without any problems until now. But I'll try different methods and see what happens. I appreciate everyones input. Thanks. Oh, and if anybody has any other suggestions, please, share.
Ok, I was able to get Pyramid3D v0.8.0 working so far. I flashed with superwipe about 3 times then installed the ROM. I did not sign into my account, and installed my apps from titanium first, and then signed in. I got several reboots with setcpu so I unistalled it. I also get a few market fcs. Now the problem that I have is that I installed the 4EXT recovery and my phone is unable to play my music files through any of the music players. I am able to open them with astro, but not music player. But I guess I'll try to figure this one out now. Thanks for the advice.

Good post. I didn't realize I should be doing so much wiping even before restoring a backup.
Incidentally, I'm kicking myself now, but in the excitement of flashing my first custom ROM, I forgot to backup my original system. Doh. It's the only time I haven't backed up before changing ROMs, but that's arguably the most important backup to make.

[Q] cm7 gps, other issues

Rooted my Sensation 4G with this tutorial - http://www.androidunite.com/2011/10/07/how-to-gain-s-off-and-root-the-sensation-4g/#comment-3770
Used teamwin recovery. Installed cm7, now my GPS doesn't work. Google and forum search is all over the place on this. Need some help please.
Also, keep getting a FC error for Google apps framework or something.
Tried wipe cache, wipe Delvik Cache, and wiped google contacts app and framwork app. still getting it. Could use some help with that also.
Lastly, if I get these working or not, I would like to try a diff ROM, like miui...do I have to wipe everytime i flash a new rom, and restore data apps etc. or can I just boot to recovery from CM7, and then flash a new ROM?
I don't know much about cm7 so its probably best to check the cm7 bible in the dev forum. In the past i have had little niggling problems with a newly flashed rom, internal storage maxed out or mms wouldn't send, and usually reflashing the rom fixes it. Not always but most of the time.
Before flashing any new rom it is always best to wipe before flashing a new one. Backup your apps with something like titanium and restore then once your new rom has had time to settle. If you don't wipe, settings from the old rom could interfere with the new one. Whatever you use to backup your apps, don't restore the backup data. This could also interfere with your new rom.
Hope this helps a little.

Legend 3 ICS Edition Update

Hi there. I currently am running the Legend 2 ICS Edition ROM for Infuse 4G. I just noticed there is a new update Legend 3 ICS. If I want to keep all my files and apps, do I just flash the Update file (instead of the Full Wipe file)? And do I need to go through the same process, clear cache, dalvik cache, etc.? Probably no need to wipe data and factory reset.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

I suggest do a full wipe, if you want to keep your app, "tibu" titanium backup is great and well worth app, buy it...I did and worth every dime. IMHO Tibu will and can backup your apps and restore them.
So I suggest get tibu, backup your apps, do a full wipe install Leg3 go back to Gplay download/install tibu back on, then use the program to restore your apps only in this case.
Plus tibu can do a full backup of your data & apps, say you find your DD but want to test other ROMs, use tibu to backup data & apps, go test the another ROM, and want to come back to your DD ROM, you can then do a full data & app restore...plus there are lots of YouTube vid on Titanium Backup app.

You can do the update and keep your files, which is the reason for the update. Though, like Bigjoe says, a full wipe is always prefered, but not necessary.

The reason why everyone suggests a full wipe is so that you dont potentially run into any problems after the flash. ie flash not working, or camera wont load... little things like that that make it hard to narrow down problems. One of the main things people are going to ask is did you wipe before you installed? It helps to eliminate and remnants of left over roms so that you dont have any issues with the new rom. Its called a Bad flash.
I hope i answered your question!
Thanks for all the replies! So whether it is the full wipe ROM or the update ROM, both go through the same procedure of booting into CWM first? I will try Tibu for app backup! :good:
Stuck at blue loading loop
Hey, I am new so bare with me, I just flashed this rom onto my Infuse 4g and it seems to be restarting itself and looping to the Blue Android/Dust loading screen. It seems to fix with a fresh install of the rom, but shortly starts after everything seems fine. Please help!

Try doing an odin or hemdall back to stock with partitioning, then flash the full wipe rom.

So I've been using your latest release (full wipe Legend v3) and I did factory reset, clear cache and dalvik cache, fixed permissions, etc. The phone is occasionally laggy now, usually when I open web browser it would stay on the white screen a several seconds. Sometimes, when I open my phone, it would stay on the black screen even though I never turned it off and it still has battery. So I had to long-press the button to restart. I've already rebooted and shut down numerous times but these problems still persist.
Also, bluetooth doesn't work for me. When I enable it from settings, the "Turn bluetooth on" checkbox stays unchecked and does nothing.
Should I reflash again? I did to a Titanium Backup to restore apps and settings... Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

With any rom, you should be able to install More Locale 2 from the Play Store to get support for Turkish (and many other languages).

My bet is the tibu restore of your settings is what is causing the issues, I've had problems and have known others that had problems when restoring system settings with tibu, especially if the tibu backups were done on another rom.

I only started using tibu when I had Legend ICS v2 and then I immediately upgraded to v3 using the full wipe ROM. And then I restored all apps and settings. I'll try wipe and re-flash without restoring any settings in tibu. But honestly, I only wanted to backup my widget and screen settings (such as app shortcuts on home screens) but tibu didn't back that up.

I'm a noob so I don't know what those are. But I've only flashed ZEUS final and then Legend ICS v2 and v3. Full wiped and cleared cache on all those flashes.
I've reflashed to stock and then back to Legend 3 without restoring anything. It is all better now, very snappy. The bluetooth can be turned on now but for some reason, it doesn't detect my Jabra headset no matter how many times I scan. But it detects my Macbook Pro...
