Sounds like a hardware issue. Probably the reason why the previous owned sold it off... Take it to a local service centre where they service HTC phones. Maybe they can fix the issue if its only a slot malfunction and repair it for a small fee. If however, it's a mainboard problem, you may have to shell out considerably more cash for the same.
Best of luck anyway...

I have a ScanDisk 2GB and the Flame always can't read it.
Every reset or the device trun off the card will lost, have to pull it out and put it back to make it read.
Anyone know how to unhide the Extended Rom?

I use SANDISK 2G too
But I do not have this question
Very glad to discuss about FLAME
Advise you to do the form FAT16 format to the memory card
mine also has the same problem, tried to format with FAT also FAT 32 but no luck.
hopefully the WM6 rom will come out soon to fix this issue

Are you sure? WM6 for O2 Xda Flame?
I noticed this issue for quite long time and did some research works on it, currently the best solution is to use those TF cards made in Japan instead of those made in Taiwan. guess should be due to the control chip differences of the cards.
I am using a 2gb Kingston microSD and works well.
My big question is will it support the micro SDHC format for future cards that exceed 2gb?
Same issue with a Sandisk 2 gb. Tried to format in fat16. Not better.
But sometimes, after a softreset or a wakeup the card is available without the need to reinsert it.
I have send an email to the support. They answer 2 gb is not supported. But on the Flame website, it is written that 2 gb is supported.
Patriot 2 GB works fine for me.
Kingston is another brand I recommend, seconded by andyh's comment.
I used to have a similar problem but since i replaced with the new one, problem solved
I have go to the shop and change my micro sd from scandisk to transcend the problem sloved.

SDcard Unexpectedly removing itself!!!???

Ok im about to blow my lid.. this is the second time im experiencing this problem.
Out of no where my sdcard removes itself. Its actually happen to where my G1 freezes, I actually try to reboot and it goes back into sign in!! Wtf!! my contacts are all gone my Gtalk has to sign back in.. THIS SUCKS. I'm currently on Dude 1.3 Rc2.. I'm an loyal dude rom fan and this has never happen to me.
Its happened twice so far and since the last time it happened ive changed my sd's im using a 4gb class2. Dont tell its the class2 cause Ive been using the same class2 since ive had app 2 sd and never experienced this..
Has this ever happen to anyone or is it a known issue if someone, anyone shed some light on my problem i would greatly appreciate it!!
THanks a million!!
Do your apps remove themselves as well when you have to sign back in? Like a normal wipe? Have you tried this with more than one SD card? How long have you had the phone?
Sounds like it could be hardware related...but trying wiping and reinstalling. Also, try not using APPS2SD and see what happens...because obviously, when your SD card stops working on Apps2SD, the background processes being run off the card are going to crash and lock up the phone, and you're needing to sign in because that data was stored on the card as well.
My friend had a defunct phone where not only could the SD card wiggle a little inside its slot, but the entire slot itself came off the board/wiring it was sodered onto, so if you've dropped your phone on that edge, that could be your problem. Every once in a while, it'll connect, but it can still unconnect at any time, like what you're experiencing.
Ext2 format itself!!
I actually noticed that my sd card is formating itself to Ext2(all 4 gbs) everytime this happens!! and its hell to format it back to fat32 this is got me going NUCKIN FUTS!! Ive never dropped my phone the sd card slot is intact and ive had the phone for quiet a while..
Also i use paragon to partition..
is it a 4 gb micro sdcard?
Edit. never mind didn't fully read it. the size of your sd card is your problem. I had a 4 gb and it pissed me off soooo bad. I don't know what it is about then but the phone doesn't like them. sorry.
yes, class 2

yeah buddy you're out of luck. buy a different size sd card and you will be good to go. I almost was going to try sending my phone back to t-mobile but then I figured since it started when I changed to that size sd card and I heard that they were having so much trouble with them with this phone that I would try a different sd card first. Switched to a 8gb class 6 sd card that I bought at target and things couldn't be working better.
hope this helps.

you don't have to be a **** about it. I am just trying to help. there is no need to say that what I said is "BS" I know that 4 gb sd cards have been known to have problems with these phones. sorry, I just found that rude. oh well. but if he is having a problem may not just be the sd card size, the problem may lay within the ROM as you said before. I would try talking to dude and see if it is something on his end. If it is I am sure he would be glad to know about it and fix it.
i had this problem with the 1gb microsd that came with my g1! i had a 16g sandisk class2, and it got fried, so i had to use the original 1g as a temporary...it did that all the time, i was using it for a week or two and at least once a day itd do that sh*t. I never figured it out, i just bought a Transcend 16g class 6...works great. Wish i knew the answer for you guys, though, sorry...Hope you get it figured out...

I don't have an answer, but I hope this can add more info to your puzzle.
Same happens to mine every now and then. No reformat though, just pops up an error saying that the sd card has been removed. Then my custom ringtone (which resides on the sd card) stops being used and it reverts the default.
Am running on JFv1.51 ADP and have the stock standard 1gb sd card that came with the adp.
I don't have apps installed on the card, just the cache.
big nu, I know that you say it doesn't matter if it is a class 2 or not but I would just try a class 6 sd card.

I'm sorry I never ment any disrespect in any way when i said its BS my bad.
This actually used to happen to me even before the cupcake update. I used to used a 4gb class 6 card which eventually got fried..so I'm waiting for a new 1 to come in
I know this will seem really strange, but I noticed a trend throughout all the posts....seems like the G1 doesn't like lower numbers Go with a 16 GB, class 6 card and call it good I never had a problem whatsoever with mine, even though I am currently using an 8GB, and Dude's 1.2b. Once I pick up my 16 gig, I will let (you) know how it runs.
i keep having the same problem and i am running jf 1.51 us no themes or anything

RAPH100 not recognizing 8GB Class6 microSD

Hi,
I'm new to this forum as well as to the HTC Raphael. I've got a RAPH100 and did the latest offical ROM Upgrade (ROM: 5.05.407.1 GER, Radio: 1.11.25.01DE, 52.58.25.30U) and now it's not recognizing my microSD card anymore. Before, I had to reinsert the card 2-5 times, but often it didn't work anyway.
My storage card is a:
Transcend microSDHC Class 6 8GB
MMAGR08GUDCA-DB
I F0240000 914
52511 2452
I already searched for a sort of patch, but typically it has to work out-of-the-box i guess.
EDIT: even freshly formatted it doesn't work

Bastard!! that was my first fix!!!
ok, more useful help:
1) its possible you're SD card has a defect your PC (through its card reader) doenst mind, but your phone does. If possible (ie you have more of these cards, or friends with the same phone) try your card in other (same & different) phones / other (same) cards in yours
1 i) It's possible your phone OR card has a minor pin problem - have a look & see if there is anything obvisously wrong with the card contacts / phone pins (you might need a torch)
1 ii) try a different micro SD card (any type or size) - if it reads 100% fine, then it is unlikely to be a pin problem on the phone (unlikely - not impossible)
[when i say pin here, i mean micro SD card pins / pickups / contacts, not any kind of password]
2) How about flashing back to the old rom (if its available)? - then testing again
3) How about flashing a custom rom? (this is a little involved - its not difficult, but will require some time to ready & understand before you start)

As card reader i use a simple microSD USb reader not bigger than the card itself+usb connector.

Guess what! I have the exact same card (not the numbers ofc.. , and the exact same problems!
A128 mb card does work. And the 8 gb card does work in other phones.
The weired thing is. In my Touch Pro info says that the cardslot is in use. But when you look in the memory settings it says, not installed...
Or do you have an solution already? I hope so...

This is a known issue with this brand of card.

I'm sorry, haven't found a solution yet. I'm thinking of flashing the newest Energy Rom, because there are several users reporting that this could fix the compatibility issue. But I haven't already had the time to do so.
@Bruce:
After searching a second a time I found some threads about exactly that problem. I haven't found them the first time because I just searching in Raphael, not accessoiries ;-)
Well, I flashed the recent Energy ROM, which seemed to help at first but now my phone doesn't see the microSD anymore. But I put a ROM Image to the root of my storage card and booted into bootmanager et voila: it asks for update, so its not a hardware issue i suppose.

No, if the hardware can read the ROM image on the card then i dont think its a hardware problem. (Still can but not likely) So it seems to be a problem with Windows mobile or with (all!) the roms we are using.
Considering that this problem (now and then) excist in all ROMS i cant imagen that it are the ROMs that causing the problems. For sure when there are so many ROMs, aka: Now it seems that there is no ROM developper that can solve this problem. I cant imagen that. Those guys are smart enough to figure this out.
Considering that: Other cards do work WITH windows mobile AND with all roms we are using you might think that its the brand thats causing the problem... But i read more forums and it seems that more cards and brands can have this problem. But not all the time... Trancends is leading for shure but not the only one (adata)...
Considering that: My "defect card" does work in a card reader you would still think that it is the hardware... But why does the hardware read other cards then? So it really cant be the hardware...
Considering that its Windows Mobile then? That might be... But then again alot of cards do work in WM.... So that cant be the problem either...
Considering that all the cards must be produced conform protocol or standard xxx all the cards must work "the same" or at least be compatible with devices... But we know for shure that this isnt the case...
So:
Most cards work, so hardware cant be the problem, windows mobile / ROMS can read most cards. So that cant be the problem either. The problem excist in alot of Brands. A few got way more problems than other brands.
So might it be the production process of the cards? Are the cards being dubble checked when they are made or when the are ready? Is it the brand that sells all cards including the defect cards. And do some brands check there cards better then others... Might there be so little manufactoring problems they over see them. I guess more research would really help here...
Those cards came way to fast on the marked for budge prices... And it seems that we are paying the price for it now....

I have only seen this issue with the transcends or the aData cards which are the bottom of the line cards. I would suspect that the data transmit rate and consistency is what causes the issue. Even if you get the device to recognize it, you can't stream media from it without freezes, etc.
I have the same problem but with a 4 GB - Class 4 - microSDHC kingston.
Wmobile since I can not format it is as if protected. takes some files to read the card, including executables, coming to hang the device.
salu2
I had the same issue with the same card (Transcend C6 8GB). I was unable to fix the issue. Good luck!
I noticed:
My bosses Fuze wouldn't see it (stock rom)
My friends VZ Touch Pro would see it (stock rom)
My old 8525 would see it (cooked rom)
And a bunch of people at my work with the Titan, could see the card.
I just traded with a friend who had a Transcend C4 8GB card.
Here's my previous post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525445
I changed it for an kingston 8 gb. That worked on the fly...
I now changed to a SanDisk 8GB ... working like a charm
My AT&T FUZE with the Energy ROM would only sometimes read my Adata 8Gb Class 6 Micro SDHC. I swithced it with an older Kingston 6Gb Class 4 Micro SDHC I had on my camera and haven't had anymore problems. Read about several people on different websites with the same problem. I could not find a fix either. The Raphaels just don't like those cheap micro sd cards.
Good Day! Friends please help for my trouble with this (MMAGR08GUDCA-DB) microSDHC card... All it's ok work, but today, flash card say to me: format not possible sd is write-protect! Oo but i'm not added write-protect nd no added some code for this card...
Please say to me, how i can formated this card?????????????????
I very very need your help, 2 days internet serfing not much normal result (( and i can't find any firmware tools to format this flash card (((((((((((
Formatting can be done using an micro sd-adapter (i dont know if you can set writeprotect then...). Then you can format the card in a normal pc. But if that doenst work also, then i would think it over to send the card back for an other brand. I formatted my old card on a normal pc to. That went fine... but then stil the rapheal dit not reconised the card....
So it really might be the brand... beside that, i dont know if a class 6 card works well...

Standard samsung SDHC Card died

Hello, after installed Locations from Programs in my DHD my sdcard died, not instant but after a while maybe 12 hours. I have 1.72.405 update.. It was new years night so i dont remember to much
But then it just started to say: "No sd card mounted" or something.
Then i tried to put it in another phone the card is dead there to.
Then in a computer using an adapter, no success there either.
So is my card 100% dead or is it any chance of getting my data back, i was stupid and didn't have backup, to late now but you learn of ur misstakes.
Sry for wall of text, this is Short version
sdcard died a few hours after installing locations
no device founds it
help....
Loads of problems with this at the moment, everyones SD cards seem to be slowly dying since the recent update. The SD card isn't recognised in any other phone/computer as you say so the likelyhood of getting anything off it is slim.
Someone here has apparently spoken to HTC about it who have confirmed there is an issue with the new update which affects the unmounting of the SD card. The only thing they recomend is sending it back to HTC who will flash the phone back to the previous version.
I spoke to HTC myself the other day and managed to get them to send me another SD card - might be worth doing that. A factory reset doesn't work by the way, complete waste of time.
HTC phone number for UK is 0845 8900079 or 01279 206906 (same line, just not premium rate).

So if i buy a new card and havent send my phone to htc for them to flash the phone to the update before 1.72.405 the new card will brake?
I did go to the place i bougt the phone and they did say that the warranty didnt cover attachments so if i want a new card i need to send the phone and the card to repair, and the company that handels repair for most big electronic stores in sweden is the worst in the world.
How fast is htc at downflashing the phone?
I live in sweden if it has anything to do with how fast they are..

I've just replaced the SD card myself and havent had any further problems, everything has been fine since. No one else seems to have had any further problems either after replacing the card. I wouldn't bother sending the phone to be repaired, as I'm pretty sure it's just the SD card corrupted by the recent update somehow, not the actual phone.
In short, just get a new SD card, off HTC if possible. The number for customer services can be found here... htc.com/uk/CA_Hotline.aspx

My card has just gone down as well for no apparent reason - the phone was working fine and then the card stopped being recognised - I hadn't done anything with it.
I'm running 1.72.405.3.
Is there any way to recover the data from the card?
I fitted a 32Gb card over Christmas and that died within hours of being fitted which I thought was down to a faulty card although now I'm wondering if it is down to the HTC update.
So I guess the key questions are:
1. Are HTC going to be releasing a fix for this?
2. I have a new 32Gb card on the way - what are the chances of preventing that from being killed?

So I guess the key questions are:
1. Are HTC going to be releasing a fix for this?
2. I have a new 32Gb card on the way - what are the chances of preventing that from being killed?

No.
I did take some photos off via pc connection last night connecting to it as a disk drive, but that is it.
I also have some apps installed onto it, but wasn't using any of them when it failed - I just turned the phone on to check email and it was giving an SD error or Insert SD card message - can't remember which and am trying to dig through logs to find out.

I see a temporary solution for some people stuck in new firmware versions without root.. *Cough* Old versions can be rooted..*Cough*
Hi there.
I installed the update the same day I got the phone. The Samsung MicroSD provided died 10 days ago; with stock rom - non rooted etc.
Can I talk to someone to get a replacement?

Called HTC last day about my sd card, gave them all the details they wanted and they told me that they will send me further info about if and when the new sd card can be sent. Hopefully they will understand and send me a new one.. No message so far though...
i had that problem with my kingston 16gb class 10, when i flashed a custom sense rom (but it was older base 1.32.xxx.xx) the sdcard died on me after rebooted. tried everything i could do to bring it back. so i left it for about week an decided to try it again...and it worked!! so maybe leave it awhile and try it again.

[Q] How to replace internal sd

I recently have heard that it is possible to replace the internal sd card in devices like i9003. There is an sd card integrated somewhere which is exactly like external sd cards we insert. I am curious if anybody has tried it before. i have this friend who tried this on his acer phone. he took the internal sd out which was 2gb and replaced it with 8 gb. and he also had another 16 and made the capacity 24. smart huh?
Just use SD swap, isn't it the same?
Cheers

exactly! i will try to get it replaced via samsung service. i have a friend working there as a manager. I will see if he would agree having somebody replace it with higher capacity sd card..

I didn't want swap. What is swap anyways. i would appreciate the information about its benefits
well, i talked to my friend at samsung service center and he leaded me to a tech. i talked to him and he said they couldn't do it for me due to the fact that it would be illegal. i am not sure if he understood me properly but anyways he told me to open it by myself and in case of encountering any problem i could send my phone to service and they could take care of.
Anyways, i found a video on the internet which shows how to unassemble i9000 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt9XNnjAcBc). i followed it and finally took the little black box out which i believe to be the internal sd.(if anybody watches the video, the black box is the one she separates and puts it by the screws) but, damn it, it wouldn't open. it is somehow fixed and one piece. i couldn't reach to the int. sd.
what a disappointment. So, the answer is my question is, it is not possible to replace the internal sd card with a higher capacity one. Could have been amazing though.. Imagine replacing it with 32gb, having another 32 as external and you have 1.5 on-board, there would come the 64 gb samsung sl.
Ps. What i mean with the internal sd card btw, is not the fixed on-board one, but the one which is seen as internal sd card on cwm and which i believe people use as swap.
I know bro it was my dream also. And i ask to my friend he is also working ın samsung center he said me the same thing as you heard what a pitty

I did a quick look through and did not see any thing that looks like a micro sd. Which black box are you talking about? The one at 3:16? Thats the speaker.
Additionally I think that usually internal memory as well as our internal "sd" is a little chip that is directly soldered onto the board as this will need less space. Some time ago some people here noticed that they got more internal sd memory after their boards were replaced by the service center. What I am asking myself is: Why do these people get more memory if it was only a sd card which is easily replacable. That wouldn't make sense and so I think this is not possible on our phone.
With sd swap they mean a little software modification in a file called vold.fstab which "changes the paths" (so say it in an easy way) you can access your files in that way that:
- all files on your external micro sd card are found under /sdcard/ instead of /sdcard/external_sd/
- all files on your internal sd are found under /sdcard/external_sd instead of /sdcard/

Of course this would be "illegal" as your friends say. Have a modification done to your phones and after two days if it doesn't work anymore because of this you come back and claim for warranty.
As ı know the internal sd card is not the micro sd that can be replaced because the read and write speed is so high as u know It is about 25 mb/s read, and 15mb/s write. But in micro sd we can't reach this speed even in class 6
You are right.
The internal sd, let's call it internal memory, is inside the phone behind all the plastic on the board. If you take out your sd card and start your phone you will notice an empty "external_sd" folder on stock roms or respectively "emmc" on CM9, as long as your memorys aren't swapped. The micro sd card you put in your phone isn't part of it and thus is external.
So much confusion about this... *lol*
Yes I agree it is integrated to the motherboard and not with a slot that you can remove or replace I think swap is OK we shouldn't try replacing internal memory we can broke an awesome phone
But I must admit that I would like to look inside the phone, but I'm a bit afraid I could damage it...

yes you are right I am an electronic engineer candidate I am so curious but we must be careful so much. It is a complex phone and very difficult to assemble it
Well a friend if me and I already opened a iPhone and repaired it with parts worth some EUR. There was no risk. But my SGSL is working and I'm not an electronic engineer. So you know more than me. I'm used to assembling computers but mobiles... No Thanks!

The mobile things such as phone are really really complex. They include so many micro parts and so sensitive because of that if we aren't an expert we mustn't do anything that we are not sure what we are doing.
Well swapping means fooling the system into believing that the external micro SD card you put in your phone is actually the internal SD, when is its not and vice versa. Search the development thread for it
Cheers
