Hi, this is my first post, but I have been reading around a bit and I've just used AlphaRevX to S-OFF my HTC Incredible S. However, when I try to access HBOOT through volume down + power button it just starts up like it normally would. Does anyone know what seems to be the problem?
Have you turned off fastboot in "settings-power"?
How permanent is the AlphaRevX S-OFF
Hello there
I have also just used AlphaRevX to successfully S-OFF my HTC Aria.
I'm wondering how permanent this S-OFF is?
Is it S-OFF at the radio/nvram level or is it S-OFF at the bootloader level.
More specifically, will I loose S-OFF with an OTA?
I'm still a bit new to all of this so I hope this isn't a stupid question.
Thank you in advance.

This is S-OFF at the HBOOT (bootloader) level. It is not as permanent as S-OFF at the Radio level.
You will lose S-OFF if you use an RUU or get an OTA.

Try to remove the battery, after some time try again by pressing strong "Volume Down" and "Power On" keep it pressed until HBOOT appear.
You can try also without any connected USB cable, when you are in HBOOT connect the cable to the phone.
Hi,
I'm a bit nervous about posting this, as I know I've asked the question before in a different thread, however I feel it's being lost in the excitement of everyone updating to 4.0, and rightly so...
But I I need a bit of help.
Today, when ICS became available, I downloaded it; naturally, and it downloaded fine... however when it came to install it; I'm hitting a brick wall.
It displays the phone shutting down, and then boots into the installation screen; (the one with the black screen, phone and the green arrows; and the progress bar etc) however when the progress bar fills about a third of the way, a red question mark appears where the green arrows were and it boots back into gingerbread.
I've carried out a factory reset on the phone, but it hasn't made a difference.
It's absolutely frustrating the hell out of me; and I've trawled this and other forums, but haven't found a resolution.
I'm S-OFF, via revolution, and have stock recovery.
My CID is HTC__001 and HBOOT is 1.17.1111
I've added a screenshot of the SW info.
Is there any way I could get a bit of help with this please???
I will try to return the favour, somehow.
Thanks in advance, folks
Anyone at all?

I would say its the Revolutionary S-OFF that won't works well with OTA updates.
So first remove the S-Off and then try again.

Tried removing the sd card... It needs it to install the update...
I thought it was down to the bootloader whether or not the ota worked.
Can anyone confirm this?

Try flashing original HBOOT .nb0 files through adb and try again

I flashed the original stock recovery; the HBOOT is 1.17.1111; I thought this was the original... is it not?
I Would recommend flashing your stock ruu first then update OTA ICs afterwards. In that way you'll have stock hboot, recovery and rom. Don't worry about your s-off. Flashing stock ruu won't turn it to s-on. You'll lose root though.

I'm not fully rooted, though; only S-OFF via revo. As far as I know, I'm on the stock RUU... ain't I? I appreciate your help loads!
Here's a pic.
I've just installed it with no problem whatsoever on my xe
After researching the bjaysus out of this; would I be right in saying that HBOOT 1.17.1111 (the one I have) is in fact, revolutions firmware, and 1.27.0000 is the stock version, and the reason why my update is ballsing up?? And if so, is there anyone able to help me change it back? I will buy pints for ya!
Cheers
well, again, did you load stock RUU and then update? why don't you directly flash ICS RUU? painless!
I need help!
Hi,
On my sensation XE that I have got onto s-off I haven't fully rooted it I don't think but its on s-off now and I have superuser access, I am living the the UK and ICS was recently released here so I downloaded it but as I went to install it It all went okay and 4EXT was saying it updated successfully but as my Phone rebooted it hung at the HTC bootscreen, I tried it twice just incase it was an error but it didnt work the second time either and each time it won't turn off so I have to take the battery out and restore it to a backup I previously made and was just wandering what I can do as I would like the ICS update.
I advise NOT to update it. It is a very bad effort by HTC as Wi-Fi does not work anyomre (at least in most of Middle East) I've talked to HTC support and they replied with the usual (We are making a fix for [problem here] as quick as possible) clause....... ****heads.
All you need to do is restarting into bootloader, enter recovery, choose option to choose a file from SD and from there, install manually. No need to S-On.
This is my first post and a rather simple question. I have been lurking in the forum since i got my last desire. But now I wanna root my htc desire s after I upgraded to sense 3.0 ota.
The question is this: do I have to do anything special before going through the processes? Is it better for me to go with v1 or v2 (meaning the two methods posted here)?
Thank you for answering!
I guess you by now know what adb and fastboot is, so you should now all there's is to know when getting started on rooting your phone. First you need to downgrade you Hboot in order to get the S-OFF, just do a couple of searches on google and they'll pop right up. Once done just use SuperOneClick to root, and you're done, now you can get down to flashing new roms, kernels and so on

Thanks for the reply but you haven't answered my question. First I need to downgrade for sure. But what method should I use between the two posted here in sticky threads? And is it certain that I will be able to downgrade with the ruu for Europe cause this must be for unbranded phones I think. Meaning, must I also create a gold card before hand?
Thanks
edit: Can anyone tell me for sure from the software number I have if I am branded or not? I think it's from vodafone Greece but I am not certain (it was a gift).
Are you referring to the two methods mentioned in this post?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146601
If so, then go for the method with downgrade and revolutionary S-OFF. I don't quite understand you question?
I never created a gold card, and I'm doing fine without. I don't think you need one unless you use the method with HTC-dev.

How can you be so certain?(not ironic but please explain your reasoning cause I really don't want a bricked phone) Because he says in underlined and bold that :
"This method works for software version 2.11 and above and doesn't work for version 2.10 below.. Please use zegRush if this doesn't work for you."
And I have 2.10.124.8 .

Ah my mistake. Then you should use the other one. If done correctly though, neither should brick the phone

Ok then. What about the ruu then? Will i be able to use the one for europe or do I have to create a goldcard ? I have read about it but I am not sure if I am branded or not. If someone can help me I would appreciate it.
You need to use the one specific to your carrier and region. It also has to be one with the older h-boot

it is recommended that you adjust the following two settings:
Settings->Applications->Development->USB debugging = TICK (Yes)
Settings->Power->Fast boot = UNTICK (No)
Install ADB/FASTBOOT on your PC (by following advice given in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272595 )
You should then be able to determine your base ROM details by using command, and noting all the details in settings...about phone....software ....more
Code:
fastboot getvar cidnum
You'll find the code in the following list

Thank you! This was a complete answer. I will do it and post here.
Ok so I type the command but nothing is happening... It says that it's waiting for the device and nothing happens. I typed fastboot getvar vodap006.
Any help? Thank you beforehand.

You should reboot the phone so that its in BOOTLOADER (fastboot) mode.
plug in USB cable from PC
Alright mis-communication there, you must actually type
Code:
fastboot getvar cidnum
and the purpose of that is you'll get returned the region ie HTC__001
How did you know vodap006? as thats the answer and the purpose of this command
So I suggest reboot phone into bootloader and then you could simply type
Code:
fastboot getvar all
which should return a greater amount of information.
Ok thx for the clarification. I read it at the post you linked and I thought it must have been the one to type. Anyway I will do it right hopefully this time
edit: ok it says I got cidnum T-MOBN14 and I dont know which one is that. I can't find it in your link. Any ideas ?

never mind. sorted it now I typed the same op lol until I went down further lmao
After some searching here on the forum it seems that I must create a goldcard to chance the cidnum to 11111111. Is this correct? Can it be done only with the goldcard or is there any other program needed?
Thank you.

I believe that the creation of a goldcard will enable you to flash a ROM which is not intended for your region, which is the same as what happens when you have a cidnum of all 1's anyway.
So just create a goldcard and try the RUU with that in place

Yes, but they're far more complex....ie XTC-Clip
The Gold card is certainly the easier option that you have! just make one! whats the concern, why don't you want to use one? only have one SD card?

Well I read the sticky and I would like to use the method with the adb commands but I don't understand how (and if) I must get temproot.
when I restart my phone it shows HTC logo and then show Vodafone's logo and then take me to home screen so I was wondering is there a way I can remove that Vodafone logo somehow so that my phone boot faster, thanks!
You can remove it, or replace it, but your phone won't boot faster
You'll need to root your phone and then you can flash new splash screen and startup animations

Yes, I believe so, which will mean, downgrade not unlock via htcdev, so read the guide details in the INDEX

Can it be flashed like a kernel for htcdev unlock?
HTC Sensation, T-mo version ics, hboot 1.27, s-on, unlocked, and rooted. Last event b/4 death, tried wire trick to remove s-on. Rebooted, got a big blank well lit screen. I can get in to fast boot and I have a card reader connected to my pc. Is it repairable by a noobe? I got a good understanding of dos and unix. Thanks.
