Hi every one
I have a HTC Desire S which i have been trying different roms on over a period of long intervals quite successfully (using ROM manager) but last night while half asleep and very tired i thought i would do a quick try of a new rom. Things went bad. Now i need your help!
I can boot up and read from SDcard but when i try to install the rom (in zip form) i get the following message:
failed to verify whole file-signature
signature verification failed
installation aborted
My boot screen currently reads the following:

Please, all help appreciated!
I'd suggest that you try to re download the ROM and check its md5 sum in case its corrupt

Thanks Ben, the last ROM i tried was the Endymion V3.4 ROM. I checked it with Bitser and sure enough it was corrupted! I have now downloaded it a second time and it is correct. I'm now off to try it out! let you now soon of my results!
Still need help
Sorry Ben, scrap my last answer, i measured the Themes addons file instead of the actual ROM file.
So, both my 1st and 2nd ROM's have passed the Bitser checksum test but still no getting passed the signature verification test.
Any ideas anyone?
Are you using CWM recovery?
There should be an option somewhere to toggle signature verification? (possibly within the install ZIP....area)
I know that it is there on 4EXT but I don't use CWM, I reckon you've possibly toggled it by accident when flashing the ZIP?

I dont know what CWM is.
1) I turn the phone on by pressing "volume down" and "power"
2) Then i select "recovery"
3) When that fails and i reach the exclamation mark on the red triangle then i press the "volume up" and "power" buttons
4) this will bring me to the other system recovery menu (3e) from which i can select the "apply update" command
This is the only sequence i know off
Any ideas?
From the
CWM = clockworkmod which is the recovery that I suspect you may have installed.
From ROMmanager there should be an option to "flash clockworkmod recovery", try running that, what happens?
There is also an option from ROM manager that will enable you to reboot into recovery, there is no need to enter recovery via bootloader each time - which is what your doing currently via Power volume button combination
you should be using the option to flash ZIP not update file.
My phone doesn't boot

In my initial reply i wrongly stated that i can "boot" but failed to specify that it only booted until the HTC logo!

Other options?
Are there other ways to get to the inner parts of the phone so i can format/reinstall or whatever to get it up and going again?
I would suggest that you attempt to install ENG Hoot which you can do by following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113820
This should then enable you to flash a RECOVERY over fastboot
You'll need to install ADB and FASTBOOT (see initial GUIDES section in INDEX for instructions..)
there is a similiar thread, with a solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23304438 the link that doesn't work in the post #1 is on the first line of this post.
you should then be able to install a recovery image, http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recoveries/cwm-4.0.1.4-saga.img (found this one) and the
Code:
fastboot flash recovery
command from your PC in fastboot, with USB attahced.
and from there install a ROM

I tried but so far no luck.
ENG Hoot seemed to have tried something but returned "skipped bootloader" or something to that effect - don't know if that was good!
I still have "revolutionary" at the top of the screen if that means anything.
Then i tried adb and fastboot. But i cant seem to get the laptop to see my usb connected phone.
Getting late, need to sleep - any ideas?
Put the attached zip on your sd card (i.e. with a card reader) (would recommend formating your sdcard first, i guess your initial issue came up because the sd is corrupted).
It contains a 4ext recovery image, then reboot into bootloader and apply the patch, afterwards shut your device down remove the sd and delete the PG88IMG.zip (otherwise it will flash it everytime you access the bootloader), as last step go to your recovery (from bootloader, like you described before), 4ext should show up, if this happens plug it to your pc use the usb toggle function to copy the rom on the sd.
Then go to wipe/format and choose wipe all (except sd) (all data on your device will be gone, but it's the safest way to restore your system]) afterwards toggle usb back and flash the rom (maybe you need to reboot the recovery in between (it's in the bottom menu, don't use the normal reboot option or you will stuck at bootloop like before).
THANK YOU!!!

Thanks a million!!!!
When i first read your suggestion my first thoughts were "I'm sure I've done that before with no success!" but off course i had no other choices so i tried it (step by step) Man was i surprised when i saw the menu with all those options - my phone was working again!!
So i now had to pick a ROM, and i chose the first one i found in my Download folder : "Endymion_V3.1_base_release"
I was concerned with the "seemingly" stucj HTC screen after the installation of the ROM, but after a slowww start, the phone booted eventually into the OS
A million thanks!!!
First boot after, wipe and ROM instal always take longer than normal
Wipe cache and dalvik on a ROM also causes slow initial boot

I'm pleased to present my ClockworkMod recovery for the HTC Desire HD (aka HTC Ace / HTC Spade). This recovery has been built and setup by me and is in no way endorsed buy Koush, so please don't ask him for support! I am still testing this recovery, so caution is advised and you use it at your own risk!
You will need the ENG HBOOT installed on your device to flash this recovery!
You can load recovery by powering on the device with 'Volume Down' pressed and selecting the 'recovery' option, by using 'adb recovery', by installing 'Quick Boot' from the Market or by installing 'ROM Manager' from the market.
Navigation in the recovery image as follows:
Volume Up / Down to move between options
Power key to select an option
Select 'go back' option to go back
Step by step install instructions
Download 2.5.1.2 r1 ClockworkMod Recovery for Desire HD - DOWNLOAD
Download fastboot if you do not have it already.
Turn off your phone and take out the battery. Unplug the phone from the PC / charger.
Replace the battery and turn the phone back on with 'volume down' held, then select 'fastboot' (using the power button).
Plug the phone into the PC.
Extract the fastboot zip file.
From a command prompt (at the directory containing these new files!) run 'fastboot-windows flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-ace-modaco-r2.img' (subsituting 'fastboot-mac' or 'sudo fastboot-linux' as required)
When this finishes, from the command prompt run 'fastboot-windows reboot' (again substituting 'fastboot-mac' or 'sudo fastboot-linux' as required)
Done!

can we flash straight over test recovery? No extra steps needed?
Same as above+ if not, could someone linux-literate explain us how to remove the test recovery please?
Ohh Thats sounds good to me.
I have the German hboot version, how can i flash this recovery?
Thanks
Works like a charm, no more 3 time scrolling to activate the power button.
Recovery seem to be working ok just like the test. But I still find it strange that I cant mount the SD card if I boot to the recovery using the Volume down and power method. The only way I can mount is to boot using the ROM manager. (By the way, I have the S-OFF and root).
That's weird, i'll look into that.
P
easier, than the RaiderX303 recovery, as it is not needed to go down 3 times to get back menu option and power selection.
I just flashed in fastboot, and it works perfect.
just flash it as you flashed the test recovery!

The only thing you can mount is the system, data, and cache. Well the sd-ext (I dont think work, since I dont have ext partition on my SD card yet). I dont even know if we need to partition Ext with the HD rom? (Personally I dont think we need)
Anyway Paul...thanks heaps man...you are the man
Another Feedback:
Both Backup and restore tested working just fine....even restoring from the backup created by the test recovery just fine.

Just overwrite with this one.
Or extract the original recovery from rom.zip (of the stock rom you using)
Hi all,
I have recently got hold of a Desire S and updated it a couple of months ago with the standard ota update from O2 (Or branded phone)...since then I have been getting signal errors which I have read about elsewhere.
Anyway thought I would root my phone...I S-off using revolutionary, it did not appear to work the first time, it appeared to s-off the phone but I did not get prompted for the CWM download, second attempt, it informed i was s-off and to download the CWM, I clicked yes and it tried to download but nothing happens.
So as far as I can tell I am s-off but no root. I have tried gingerbreak and superoneclick both of which stall during the process and do not root my phone.
I am very new to this and not sure where to go from here to get my phone rooted.
My Hboot was 98.002 now it shows:
-Revolutionary-
Saga PVT Ship S-off RL
Hboot-6 .98.1002
If I go into recovery I just get a red triangle with an ! and have to reboot the phone.
So I am at a point where I do not know what to do to get it rooted....or can I just get a pre rooted rom and flash that over the top?
Thanks
I'd suggest that to start you change these setting on your phone
Settings->Power->Fastboot = OFF
Settings->Applications->Development->USB debugging = ON
There are various links in my signature, they should all help. Download the adb&fastboot link and extract the files to your c:\temp\ directory on your PC. Then install the HTC drivers then continue and follow the instructions below:
You first need to download CWM recovery image file for this device to your PC into again the C:\temp directory.
Put the phone in Fastboot USB mode (by following instructions below
Unplug USB
Turn the device off
Hold volume down button (HOLD IT) and press power
Hboot will start.
Wait for sdcard scan to complete.
Plug in USB cord connected to the computer
Press power ONCE and Fastboot USB mode starts
Then run a CMD shell from the PC and then issue the commands into it from the directory where you have put the downloaded img file (c:\temp\)
fastboot flash recovery cwm-4.0.1.4-saga.img
adb reboot recovery
To root you phone then
Download and then copy su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip to your sdcard root
Start clockworkmod recovery
Unplug USB
Turn the device off
Hold volume down button (HOLD IT) and press power
Hboot will start.
Navigate to recovery with the vol down button.
Press power to select and enter recovery.
Select "install zip from sdcard"
Then select "Choose zip from sdcard"
Then select "su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip"
Then select "Yes - install su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip" to confirm
Then go back
Then reboot.
Try to download the pg88img file of cwm our 4ext you find them in the index thread.
Put the pg88img in root of your sd, reboot to bootloader and flash the file. After this the easiest way to gain root would be to flash an prerooted ROM.
Don't forget to make a backup of you're current ROM if anything fails

@ben_pyett you sir are a lengend!!!
what you posted worked...the only slight thing I had to do different was install the htcdrivers first, as it would recognise my phone, then I could do the adb reboot recovery.

Glad to have been able to help.
Now take a backup using CWM so that you have a safe fall back position - just in case!
I'd then suggest updating the recovery to 4EXT which I personally find easier to use.
You'll then find all the ROMS linked within the INDEX thread
Enjoy!
just running a backup now....just waiting for it to finish then to hunt for a rom.
Will probably use rom manger and voidru, seems a popular choice and a good place to start.
Then pay the £1.56 for 4ext

Yeah, I just rooted my galaxy tab, installed lagfix etc (feels like a new piece of hardware now, it so fast!)
I first coudnt do it, because i didn't have the Samsung drivers installed (just like the HTC drivers here)
I never actually rooted my desire s manually!.
I just s-offed, then installed custom roms straight away which already come pre-rooted.

Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
im trying to install this ROM on my Sensation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849 (ARHD) - the ICS version.
So im following the instructions it points to here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
So my phone was running stock gingerbread. So i follow the instructions.
I successfully S-off the phone.
Then i did the PG58IMG.zip thing --- successfully updates --- but now the phone is in boot loop?? it says there it should reboot to home screen? I can still get to the bootloader menu but recovery or any of those options dont work?
I have tried googling but all those threads get so technical. I AM A COMPLETE UTTER AND DISGUSTING NOOB.
Please can someone give me a step by step easy to understand directions to fix my phone? please please?
To be honest the same thing happened to me when i first flashed an ICS rom.
What i did was that i connected the memory card to my PC using an adapter and deleted the PG851MG file.
Then i moved on to flashing my ICS rom (Virtuous inquisiton) and it worked out quite good.
But traditionally it should boot back after flashing the firmware. It has never happened to me again.
Thats my experience. I dont thnk tat nething should go wrong, but still the phones at your own risk. Do go thru other posts in the forum b4 u do nething.

Stop everything. I'll give you a simple solution.
Follow this step by step.
WRITE SUPER CID [YOU ONLY NEED TO DO THIS ONCE]-
1. Download adb tools here: download for WINDOWS or download for LINUX or from the attachments below
2. On your pc click on your local disk C: Drive (or D: drive for some) (WINDOWS users: Start > My computer > Local Disk (C)
3. Create a new folder called "adb" and extract the files from adb.zip into it. Make sure it doesn't create another folder in the adb folder when extracting
Manually put the phone in the bootloader/hboot mode
Navigate to fastboot by pressing volume down and pressing power button to select (power off > vol down + power on)
It will take you to the fastboot bootloader screen on your phone
Connect your phone via USB
Your Screen should now read fastboot USB
1. enter the command "fastboot oem writecid 11111111"
2. enter the command "fastboot reboot-bootloader (Wait for it to reboot the bootloader)
3. enter the command "fastboot getvar cid" [it should confirm your CID is 11111111]
4. enter the command "fastboot reboot"
5. You can now flash any ROM you like.

Updating the firmware
This step is MANDATORY otherwise you ROM will not boot. Please take a look at the firmware thread so you can understand what you are about to do.
After updating the firmware you will have the 3.32 firmware with unlocked bootloader. Which basically means that you can use advanced fastboot commands, such as: flash new radios and splashscreens
Download any firmware from here.
Copy the PG58IMG.zip file you've downloaded to the root of the sdcard. Root of the sd card mean that you can't put the file inside any folder. Also, you can't rename the file. Please keep the PG58IMG otherwise the bootloader won't recognize it.
Power off your phone or remove the batt and put it back again.
Hold volume-down + power button to boot into the bootloader
Wait for the firmware package to be found and confirm to update as prompted
Once it completed successfully and prompted you to reboot, pull the battery out.
Connect your SD card to the PC and remove the PG58IMG.zip file.

Download the zips for SuperWipe & your ROM and put them on your memory card.
Hold volume-down + tap the power button once to boot into the bootloader.
Press vol down to highlight Recovery and press the power button to select it.
Next, select Install zip from SDcard and touch to navigate to the location of the Super Wipe zip and select it.
Once it is done, you will be rebooted to Recovery. Again choose Install from SD card and this time navigate to the ROM and select it.
After the install is finished, go back to main recovery menu and select reboot.
That's it, you're good to go.
This will work, I'm a 100% positive on that.
Hello,
I have troubles with my phone which won't boot. I installed official ICS exe on my computer and after update wizard said that was successfully finished.
When I turn on phone first is HTC sign and then is blank black screen (lightly illuminated) and stays there.

What could be wrong? How do I fix this?

may be it is nandroid backup
can you boot to custom recovery? If yes you can restore from there
I can boot up to bootloader (vol down + pwr)
I can select:
FASTBOOT (reboot reboot bootloader and power down) -> all works
RECOVERY (do not work) phone restarts to HTC logo and then blank screen
FACTORY RESET (do not work) phone restarts to HTC logo and then blank screen
SIMLOCK (dont know?)
IMAGE CRC (work)
In backup folder:
boot.img
cache.img
data.img
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.img

If you can get to fastboot then surely you should be able to use ADB to connect to your phone?
Please tell me more about ADB? How can I try if I am able to use ADB?
have you tried to enter fastboot, connect to PC with USB, and flash the custom recovery once more? Probably, when you tried to apply the RUU - it overwrote the custom recovery with the official one, so you need to reflash the custom one back, access it, and restore a nandroid backup from within it. Then, either use the method to upgrade to ICS but keep root and s-off, or go completely stock and and upgrade to official ICS (with a possibility to root it), or simply flash the prerooted official ICS ROM
Sorry for my noob questions.
I need some software on my PC to flash from computer? Thank you for all you are helping.

things that you need are:
- ADB.exe
- Fastboot.exe
- few .dll files that allow these two to work on your computer
- Fastboot drivers
- and an .img file of the required custom recovery
You can find all of these somewhere in Desire S forums, just search for keywork "[GUIDE]"
Then you can simply follow the instructions from the guide on how to use the adb and fastboot, and you'll be back up and running in no time
And because you're already S-OFF, all you need to do is get the files I listed above, unpack the archive with them in somewhere like C:/, open command prompt, get into bootloader, select "FASTBOOT", and enter the "fastboot flash recovery (recovery name).img" command, then reboot into bootloader again with "fastboot reboot-bootloader" command, and then you'll be able to access the newly flashed custom recovery to restore your backup, and return your phone to life
Seems complicated in text format, but it's actually easier than you might think
EDIT #1: Look here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186401
Many thanks, I will try and report back!
And if I understand when I install ADB I must go for cmd..?

you don't need to install anything other than drivers to allow your PC to work with adb/fastboot commands through CMD. And, if I remember correctly, you should also deinstall HTC Sync program and delete any HTC drivers present on your system currently. Then install fastboot drivers, and you're good to go.
Good luck mate
F.Y.I, if your hboot is ENG S-OFF you can run RUU to update and it will NOT brick your phone.
And here is some link for you to install custom recovery:
- HTC Driver:
www.htcaddicts.com/download.php?id=318
- Android tool (contains adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, AdbWinUsbApi.dll, fastboot.exe):
http://www.mediafire.com/?4dx982z93w8z7wk
- Custom recovery image (4EXT):
http://downloads.saga-lbc-mod.de/recovery-images/4EXTRecovery_v2.1.0_saga.zip
Download and extract recovery.img from the zip file.
How to flash recovery: open DOS command prompt in the folder where edb.exe is located (recovery.img file should be in the same folder) and type:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Hope this help, good luck
Wow vndnguyen!
I managed to acess 4EXT recovery v2.1.0.
Now I restored system to 2.3.5 sense 3.0 HBOOT and other is the same.
What I need now to do to get ICS the right way? Is this guide good? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858508 I am getting: can't open '/sdcard/hboot.img': No such file or directory
You probably forgot to enable the USB debugging mode? And try to download ADB again
I swapped SD card then it worked.
Successfully installed ICS thank you guys, hope this will be useful for someone.
congratulation
Hi, at first i would say sorry for my english
So, i want install on my htc sensation custom rom, so i unlock bootloader on htcdev website, everything gone perfectly
Second step was installing CWM recovery and phone rooting, thats gone good too. Tutorial for CWM and root install i have take from this: theunlockr.com/2012/09/20/how-to-root-the-htc-sensation-on-hboot-version-1-27-0000
In next step i did wire-trick on ControlBear 0.5 beta, but phone don't want to reboot and make JuopunutBear logo, so i try to find 0.6 beta, but i can't found it. I found 0.7 beta, and on this wersion i did wire-trick, i miss a little bit with wire (wait too long) and program send me an error, i must click Enter for exit, and i clicked. From that moment my phone don't want to boot, all time i have JuopunutBear screen. I can go in bootloader, but my recovery don't want to start, so i install recovery and root again and try to restore backup from recovery, but system still don't want to boot.
At this moment i can go to bootloader and i have unlock bootloader with htcdev, recovery and probably root, i haven't s-off. My HBOOT version is 1.27.0000
Please help me, i don't know what i should do. Maybe i still can do wire-trick? I don't know :crying: I tried to find RUU, but two RUU don't want to open, and third send me info that they can't update soft and i should download correct program for update ROM memory.
Please help me!:crying:
Hi.
Run your phone's appropriate RUU, care for the region and the model as well, to be exact. For sensation XE, it has an extra LE in its name.
Sent from my HTCSensation using Tapatalk
install 4ext recovery and then enable smartflash then restore the rom backup youve got ..(step #2 and step #3 ..from this guide)
if phone still not booted then do the extra #1 step from the same above guide ...but use the boot.img from the backup you've done (will be available at /sdcard/clockworkmod/backups)
Thanks @ganeshp !!! Phone is booting and android works Thanks a lot :* You're my hero
btw, i used method with flashing my boot.img, becouse restore from 4ext didn't work

Where did u go wrong? Are you s off now?
I'm not on s-off, , becouse controlbear (0.7 beta) send me an error and i must click enter for exit, after exit my sensation don't want to boot. Probably i have waiting too long for second wire "click" on sdcard, and program send error. Now i have unlock bootloader, 4ext recovery and root, i dont know which version of controlbear i need for wire-trick. If you have good version please send me a link to download
Send from my HTC Sensation
22
I got a link for 0.5beta, I'll pm you incase in case you want to try it (I haven't. Just got it yesterday, havent had a chance)
edit:used the one click tool to root, controlbear worked like a boss, took a few tries with a wire trick, phone rebooted once but no harm done
So if my phone don't want to boot system and stuck on JuopunutBear screen i can unplug my phone, plug in again and still try to do wire-trick, for that moment when phone will have s-off?

you can always try the wire trick multiple times ...even when the phone is stuck at juopunutbear screen.
however if you want ..you can revert back the phone to working condition too (except sdcard) ..controlbear has this functionality too
check troubleshoot point #4 from my soff guide for further details ( link in my signature )
This is the answer for 10 points
This is what i need. Thanks a lot. I will try to do wire-trick again in future (now i know what i need to do when phone is stuck on that screen )
Thanks a lot
Edit, If i have rooted phone, i haven't use temproot.bat ?
Hi, it's me ... again..
I have done wire-trick today, but i have problem I done it, but controlbear send me text that they can't find device after wire-trick, i have unplug phone and try to restart them. I saw joupunutbear screen - again. So first what i have do i opened troubleshot and made 4. a), but phone still stuck on this screen. so i want to go to recovery, but i havent it I have try to flash recovery, but i recieved text that is unavailable or something. So i try to flash boot.img, but i can't do it too I have opened my Bootloader in sensation and i saw that i have ***LOCKED*** and under that S-OFF RL. So if i have ***LOCKED*** bootloader i can't flash anything, right? (boot.img, recovery, itp) I should unlock bootloader again or what? I'm stuck on joupunutbear logo already and have in bootloader ***LOCKED*** and S-OFF (if it's true) Please help me ... again It's possible i haven't root

Ok, i have used this, but phone still is stuck on joupunut screen.
While i do wire-trick i haven't use temp-root, becouse i had unlock bootloader via htcdev, i had root and recovery - now i havent anything

check only step 2 from here(flashing a recovery)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
edit: first do this
flash jb hboot from unlimited.io site(it is unlocked patched)
http://unlimited.io/jbhboots.htm
download the one for sensation(the ics one)
then flash the recovery.img
When I type this:
sudo ./fastboot erase cache

into CMD, they send me text that "sudo" isn't recognizable as command or program Maybe i'm too tired...
EDIT: Okay, i'm so stupid :/ i type that without "sudo ./" and now i have hboot 1.27.1111 and i have flashed recovery 4ext. Now i can make root again and install ROM from SD card like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531054 ?
EDIT2: recovery display info that i must do full wipe and microsd card wipe. So i can't restore backup from sd now, right? I must do full wipe with sd card too and install ROM from sd card?

first: if you are willing to flash a custom rom then there is no need to root your current one
all custom roms comes pre-rooted
second: there is no need to wipe your sdcard.where did you see that?
just make a nandroid backup from recovery just in case
then format all partitions except sdcard from recovery
flash the new rom
done
Ok, i have one backup (i made it about 2 weeks ago, when sensation worked normally), so i think i haven't make second. And my recovery is now in safe-mode, so when i wipe partitions it will be normal, right?
Tomorrow i will download Vipers 5.0.0 JB and install it Thanks a lot

While recovery is booting, every times when i open it, it boot from 0, for second i can see something like "can't mound sd" or something.
when boot is done, recovery recieve me text:
"ATTN: recovery is in safe mode this is because the following partition is not accessible: "cache"
Please enter the wipe menu and wipe cache!
If you changed hboot you should choose to format all partitions (except sdcard)
Afterwards please reboot recovery"
And above "reboot now" i can see " ! SAFE MODE ! "
When i go in Power Menu and chose power off, i can see:
"You are currently in safe_mode.
You means that your internal partition are not accessible.
please wipe all partitions and then reboot recovery!
reboot recovery now? "
Yes or No, i can't power off device, i must take out battery.
