[Q] Battery Drain on Endymion V3.4 - HTC Desire S

Hi there. i've just installed Endymion Rom 1 week ago and i experience strange problems.
When 3g is off, the phone loss 1pr cent battery each 5hours...
When i activate 3G, its about 2pr cent each 5 minutes.
I 've followed all instructions about installation, wipe everything, but nothing can help me.
I've tried smartass and reaper governors, but nothing changed.
My Phone is a HTC desire S
the rome is Endymion V3.4
Thanks everybody

3g is know yo drain more battery than 2g, or when your data is off. 4g is worse. Nothing wrong with Endymion here, its just your antenna sucking up more juice. Try keeping your 3g switched off when not using the internet, or if you must have it on, try cutting down on the number of accounts and apps syncing in the backgrou, or use 2g.
Sent from a phone waiting for kernel v3. Wake up HTC!!

Could also be that you're in a weak signal area and the radio is having to search and make more of an effort to maintain a signal?

Hi, thank for your responses.
I know that 3g or data consumme lots of data, but i dont think this way. before Endymion, i've installed Saga3D and worked well, even with 3g.
But now i've discoverd endymion, i dont want to go back., because i love this rom.
But this battery issue is really annoying... I already tweaked cpu min and max :
awake 200mhz to 1ghz
sleep 200mhz to 600mhz
but the problem is still the 3g... Ill try with Juice Defender

Iv been using endy for about 5 months now and whilst have flashed other roms, always come back to endy. Saying that however I have noticed in the past week or so that my battery drain has been quite high.
For example this morning (7:00am) it was 100%, now (14:21) it is down to 36%. My 3g is on, it always has been and I have only really been using whatsapp today. I figured it may have been an app draining the battery so I have un-installed apps I installed last weekend to see if this is the cause, which I suspect\hope is. In any case, re-flash endy for good measure.

3G or H is murder on the battery, on my way to and from work i stream internet radio to the phone while browsing and using the phone the combination of the two literally just destroys the battery....which is why I always carry the USB cable

ya, on 2g average i can get 20 hours(just watsapp, facebook and checking news)
on 3g it seems to take 20-25% in just one hour(was downloading with the screen off)

i've just restored hyperion back from endymion...seems like the battery drain is quite high while using endymion....i did use 2G line only...

very bad talk time on my Fuze! please advise

I just received my fuze for 2 weeks, but my talk time is really bad. I tried almost every radio available with matching rilphone.dll. I see its listed at least 5 hours talk time, but my battery drop like 15% battery with 20 mins talk time. that's with 3G off, data off. just Bluetooth and Phone on. I get about the similar battery life with all the radios.
Well , you can just turn the bluetooth off. I have the same problem when I using bluetooth headset .
I guess the CPU and touch screen takes a lot of power , I have to charge my raphael every day.
maybe you can buy a larger battery .
what other programs are you running? Running this like SPB mobile shell and TF3D are big battery drains. Also, keeping your other programs running in the background is bad for the batterylife. try turning off all programs that you're not using after you're done with them.
I do have SPB Mobile Shell running. does SPB Mobile Shell affect talk time battery life? because it drains about 2-3% the whole night when I sleep.
Bluetooth!
Same here, while using bluetooth, the battery drains like anything. I dont use bluetooth anymore. It sucks but cant help.
sorry for not replying after a while.
i have SPB MS3 and it doesnt really drain it too much (a little bit but not too much)
what rom/radio are you using? those can be very significant factors for battery drain
i dont got a problem with mine, im running XBMods Rhodium TF3D with the AT&T Leaked ROM, with radio 1.12.25.19 i get like 7 hours out of it, without TF3D i get like 8.5 hours, and the reason i have that much its because i keep the phone off as in the screen, and like also i dont do anything to it like txt while on the phone and also signal is also a role in battery life as well
I had bad battery performance with Stock AT&T ROM
Then I flashed the Energy ROM 2.0 two weeks back and now the battery performance is much better
Possible Solution
Battery life on my Fuze sucked so bad the first week I had it. I saw it drop 10 percent just by looking at it for 10 minutes. So i started to dig around here on these awesome forums and the solution was simple. Whether you use stock rom or custom rom. Just find a way to turn off 3g networking. There are a bunch of tricks to do it. One thing i noticed is that my area has barely noticable 3g coverage so i found the signal reception always 1 or 2 bars. When i disabled the 3g connection, i found my battery increased dramatically. You can see for yourself by using DrSigstat. With the 3g its using over 200mah constantly trying to acquire the weak signal. This uses the battery very quickly. With the 3g off I am using as of this message 53Mah which extends battery life immensely. I am only connected to edge checking email every 30 minutes and this phone is usable. If you need the speed you simply toggle the 3g back on. The 3g network drains battery quick disable it I know there are a bunch of CABS to do it and even add it to the Comm Manager. Hopefully this helps.
I had the same problem, but that all changed when I took the phone on a Tahoe trip. Since I was using Garmin, the phone was ON most of the time and about 2 or 3 times the battery completely drained -- the phone got switched off on those occasions. And I used Motorola car charger to charge the phone during that trip.
When I got home a couple of days later, all of a sudden, the battery holds up like anything. Now I can go on without charging for upto 3 days with moderate use of course, but I do have google calendar and contacts sync'd up using activesync, 3G is always on and email sync'd thru pop3. weather and stocks updated few times a day as well.
And soon after I flashed EnergyROM with latest radio and matching rilphone.dll and now I have to admit that its a totally different experience with this ROM and the battery holds really well as well.
So I think that draining the battery completely and charging it using Motorola charger helped and then the EneryROM has a part to play as well.
Like zalooa said above, if you are in a poor 3G coverage area, it's going to drain your battery a lot faster, so location matters as well.

Standby with wifi ON (connected) drains 80mA~

I just got my Inspire 4G yesterday (coming from HD2 with Android 2.2), its a really nice phone, i would had kept the HD2, but i dont have much signal (2G) at work, so i needed something with 3G 850 frequency, the Inspire 4G looked like a good replacement.
Here is the thing, im getting 80 -ish mA battery drain(12-20mA on a HD2 with android) consumption while in Standby with the WIFI active (and connected), there is a way to fix this, disabled i get 3-6mA (like mi old HD2).
My phone has the stock rom/radio just rooted, sadly i just got it yesterday and rooted pretty much right after it fell on my hand, so i have no previous data on the drain before rooting.
Thanks in advance.
I use Juice Defender and can leave it unplugged for 12-20 hours and still have 90% left. If I spend the day installing apps, reading mail, surfing I'll still have 50%.
BTW Still on Froyo, unrooted.

Assuming that nothing is wrong with your wifi router and you're in a strong signal area, your drain should be less than 8 mA typically. You're not running on the downgraded stock ROM and radio are you? Some of the rooting processes will leave you with an old and buggy ROM and radio version.
Thanks for the replies, i´m running the stock, just rooted (ROM/Radio), i just fixed my issue, battery calibration cleared the issue, fully charged until current widget display 0mA, app Battery Calibration deleted the battery_stats.bin file, rebooted and fixed, now i have seen 3mA with WIFI, doesnt make a difference though, with or without it, i get 3-7mA, which i think is pretty decent , im on Telcel H+ signal if that matter.

Insane overnight battery drain

I have seen a small improvement by charging before I go to bed, unplugging it from the wall and leave the phone on during the night with WIFI on and no apps running.
When I do that, and wake up in the morning, the battery is still at 100% and I can get a good day with heavy use, and a day and a half with moderate use easily.
However, last night, I needed the phone to be on as I was on call for work this morning so I charged it and then unplugged. But turned WIFI off as I did not want whatsapp msgs to disturb.
No apps were running, and the signal is just as strong as always (which isn't great but is is the same as always), but when I woke up after 8 hours, the battery has completely drained overnight to an alarming 12%!!
When I looked to see what was using the battery, Cell Standby has used 39% and Phone Idle 40%, the screen was only on for 3mins during that time.
My settings for apps are that they only sync manually or when opened, so nothing was running.
When I looked at the awake time, it shows that the phone has not been awake.
So I cannot understand why by turning WIFI off, the phone will drain overnight!
In a normal day Cell Standby and Phone Idle contribute very little to the battery usage in my case, but I just can't understand what has caused this to happen.
Any help appreciated, as I am quite alarmed thinking that my battery can die overnight when it has not been used.
Thanks
I had the same problem! I left my phone at 100% and turned it off over night. And the next morning it was at 7%!!
Sooooo many problems with the sensation, I am soon change my phone.
In your pictures i can see that you have bad signal. With this bad signal the phone will try to get a better signal all the time and this uses much battery.
Try it over night at a place with better signal and look how much battery it uses. And you can charge to 100% and then wipe batterystats in recovery maybe that helps.

I have similar problem Hi friends,
I use faux123 kernel for 2 weeks + ARHD 4.1.7. All things was good, in sleep time my phone was not do any drain. I meen if the battery was fully charged it was 100% at morning (phone was set to flight mode) and even after starting the phone it was staing at 100% for one hour. And i was get 18 hours for hard working with it.
But it's 2 days it drains so fast. It drain 20% of battery in 5 hour sleep time in flight mode. And i just have 8 hour to work with my phone.
Do you know wath is problem?
wath should i do?

Did you install any new apps or changed some settings in an app wich can cause this drain?
Wiped batterystats in recovery?
Did you change the CPUFREQ? Because i think faux kernel is at 1,7GhZ after flashing it. You can use faux clock to change the Kernel settings.

I have always the same signal, it varies from 2 to 4 bar, when I took the screenshot went down to 1 but I normally have a bit more.
So, with the same signal and WIFI on, when I wake up in the morning I still have 100%, this is what I don't get!

Not any power using app, just 2 game without playing them.
The latest official faux kernel's clock is 1.566 max.
I do use System tuner to control CPU and under volting.
This can make problem?

Did you download the latest fota update?
Because this update gave me also a huge drain in battery life. My solution was deleting my htc peep account in synchronization & accounts.
The drain was gone afterwards

The latest FOTA is not available on three uk yet, and I am on stock rom.
Haven't installed any apps in the last week...
The only trigger was turning WIFI off, hence why I am confused

Bcuz with your WiFi on the phone is not switching through data signals which uses less battery. I live in a bad signal area. So calls work great but data signal is crappy, goes from 2G to 4G to 2G..so with WiFi on for data there is no need to constantly try to grab a better data signal.

But data was also turned off, and I am only on a 3G network, not 2G available with my carrier.
My point here is that when I go on hols soon I will not be using data as I will be abroad, and WIFI only once a day maybe as I will be out and about.
So from last night's performance, does that mean I will only get 8 hours??
It is weird...
I was getting some insane battery drains my self after flashing the ARHD 3.X.X the one turning the sensation to XE , allthough I had very good signal and my phone fully recharged in the morning was like 61% for uknown reasons then I jumped to ARHD 4.1.7 and since then everything is fine .I don't understand though why some people blame the phone for it.to me it appears to be more like software tweaks and twists related to battery management the sensation is amazing phone I have it for a month and honestly I never regret the day i picked it when I had to make the choice senny or sg2

Ok, it sims i was messed with some bad tweaking.
I did a full wipe and reflashing the rom and all other things and now it works fine.
No drain in sleep time and now it's 8 hours my phone is on battery and still battery is %100 full.

[Q] Help with ICS on T-Mobile Sensation 4G

So let me start out by saying that I am a total noob, and Im a battery fanatic. I recently rooted and tried ICS roms but they just boot loop over and over again, or they have terrible battery life.
I have a "system" to managing my battery. I use juice defender, underclock and undervolt my processor to about 918 mhz running on a single core, which works very well for me. I never have data on, or gps or use bluetooth, I mainly use it for texting (a lot of that, close to 500 texts a day, or up to 1000ish on the weekends), I listen to music alot too, and maybe check facebook on my home wifi once or twice a day. But that's about it.
Ive had a tough time getting ice cream sandwhich to work (android revolution sense 3.5 version) and a few others like virtuous inquisition which ive heard great things about.
Currently im running the Energy 3.5 GB rom, but I was looking to upgrade to ics because I heard the battery life is MUCH better, but as I mentioned before I was having a very hard time finding a decent rom that is light, not much bloating, and I need the best battery life I can possibly get. Ive gone to countless walkthroughs on how to do it, and I havent been able to figure out the problem, but first I need to pick the rom im sure about, so if you guys could reccomend something you think would fit my uses well, that would be awesome.
update your firmware
Woah first off, please use the enter key. Reading a big blob of text like that is very hurtful to the eyes
Ok so my 2c:
Use the firmware that is recommended by the dev of the ROM you are using.
Do a battery calibration by charging it overnight OR charging ~3h after the battery indicator hit 100%.
That's generally how I do it most of the time when I flash a new ROM.
Virtuous Inquisition 4.0.0 has been my daily driver for about a week now and I've been getting a good 12h on a single charge and it's actually great for how I use my phone. I average at 3h Music, 2.5h screen on and 3-4h WiFI and a tiny bit of Mobile data. I'm generally happy with that because it still has a charge when I get home

+1 on Virtuous Inquisition, be aware though that it is AOSP like in its interface. If you like Sense then there are a few in the Dev Forum, as I can't comment directly about them not having tried them for a loooooong time.
When I first upgraded the Firmware to the 3.12 base (HBOOT 1.23 I think) I was still running CM7 and it was all fine, supports GB and ICS. I think that the battery life improved after the F/W change. When I changed to VI I noticed a few random re-boots, I then upgraded to the 3.24 (HBOOT 1.27.1100) and VI stability improved alot.

Hmm I used to try all this stuff, TBH at the moment I just let the kernel do its stuff. I might start using SetCPU again to U/C but have not had a need recently.
Just had a look at the phone, 22hrs 18m and at 59%. Minimal to no usage since the last charge as I'd "lost" it in a coat pocket.

HUGE battery drain with Viper ROM

Hey,
I just switched to the new Viper ROM for the DHD.
It works rockstable and very smooth, but the drain is immense.
The telephone app uses 49% power. How is that possible?
Any ideas on how to fix this bug?
Greetings from cologne.
PS: sry for posting this here. I'm still not unlocked for the developers forums

I did change my rom to viper 2 weeks ago and change also to lupus v5 kernel, and i have less battery drain than before, also maybe it s a question of Kernel...

Hi there!
Well, I have been using Viper V4 ROM for a while now and on stock Kernel [Viper V4.5 available here if you want http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128642] and in the first couple days or so I did notice a massive drain in battery life however this drain did become much better when the ROM "settled".
The second point is that I don't permanently leave my 3G, network data, wifi, etc, always on but only on a "use as you need" basis. This does not only extend your battery time duration obviously but also your eventual battery life. You might want to think long term and start to opt this way also.
Thirdly Viper ROM comes with various tweaks and one of them is for battery economy [you can find that under \menu\settings\power saver] where you can actually program 3 different modes with different times and specs at your own wish.
Fourthly I know of a great personal tweak that really works on Android phones but I really did not have to do it on Viper because as mentioned before the battery life for me is good enough [one charge=over 48 hours!] but I'll teach you nevertheless:
When your battery gets to 3% use the app Root Explorer and go to: \data\system\batterystats.bin and delete this file [batterystats.bin]. Go ahead...no fear...it won't damage your phone!
Then turn on your 3G, network data/traffic, wifi, screenlight to maximum [you must be quick before your phone turns off!!!!!]
Then put the charger in your phone and reboot with it plugged in charging and phone ON...confirm that your 3G, network data, etc is still on.
Leave all of them on until finish 100% charge...remember that will take more time to charge...after charge turn 3G, network data, wifi OFF and use as you need basis or as you would normally use but avoid always leaving them on 24 hours.
When your battery reaches 3% or even 5% this time, do the above again but DON'T EVER DELETE BATTERYSTATS.BIN AGAIN!!!!!
Do the whole process 4 or 5 times and you will notice INCREDIBLE change in battery life from there on. After these 4/5 times you can stop doing the process.
NEVER! Charge your phone at any point in the battery indicator above than 5%
I hope this helps you...please let me know.
Oh and don't forget to click on THANKS.
Thanks alot for your answers!
I've tried to calibrate the battery with your described method, but that doesn't change the high power consumption by the telephon app...
Switching the Kernel looks like a good idea to try. I will do that tomorrow and post my results here
greetings!
Hi there mate!
Yeah sure, that would be my choice also but I'm still stuck with stock kernel due to locked bootloader from SIM block...until then...
See ya later mate.
