Hello just wanted to ask if its possible to port sense 4.0 to our latest official GB Rom from HTC? Would be nice if its possible ???????
No, it's unfortunately not, it only runs on ICS (ANDROID 4.0.3).
I agree that it would be nice, but the developers we have here are great but not miracle workers, and besides why would you want them to move technology backwards.

ur right about moving tech forward but some people like only gb roms mate. I personally think that it will be able to be done as many things from GB was ported to froyo at the time. would be awesome if its done for the people that are going to stick with gb rom and not go with official ics update. but then its just getting it all working 100% which will probly eat up loads of time. but I deff think its worth it.

The moment we get the source code for kernel 3.0 I don't believe anyone will even consider looking back, they certainly won't remember GB!

I'm afraid you are misunderstanding...
You can't port Sense framework and put it on top of another ROM... If this was the case, we would have Sense on CM7 right? how good would that be?
But you can't. That is why all the Sense 3.5 ROMs are based of the Sensation XL. We are using the actual android build ported right over to work with from the device RUU.
Otherwise, if it were possible, we would have just extracted the latest Sense 3.5 and dump it over our official base. That way it would have been stabler etc (if you remember back in September when Sense 3.5 work was the main interest from Proxuser ports, and the early Endymion days...)

I've try Primo-S, Sense 4A plus ICS is awesome keep moving buddy I do hope kernal 3... coming in the near future and those bugs will be fixed.

If you read MY POST properly, you will See I'm not talking specifically about porting to just other ROMs. My point applies to every single ROM.
You CAN'T simply take out the Sense framework and replace it in ANY ROM (YES THAT INCLUDES THE STOCK GINGERBREAD ROM)

Thats for sure!.
I've just swapped from IceColdSandwich to Primo-S for my HTC Desire S.
Although the latter lacks camera functionality, it's a much more stable and smoother rom.. plus I love Sense. Which is surprising considering that Primo-S is a much newer port compared to IceColdSandwich.
anyway.. Kernel 3 will apparently fix the camera for Primo-S and I'll be happy.

What I would really like is if we could have Android Revolution HD ROMs, and LeeDroid ROMs (there are great ports now from dhd)
But I would prefer support from the devs themselves

Not as bad as an absolute lack of support.
The Kyocera Echo doesn't even have a recovery, stock or custom. We had root until 2.3.4 took it away.
Now we have nothing.
Should 2.3.4 be anything to be happy about without root? :|

It's been less than a month since Alpharev released their S-off, and an AOSP take so much more work than just copying a Sense rom and adding your own tweaks. Hydrogen Saga is the most stable AOSP I can find, andthis is also ported.
In time custom AOSP's built from the bottom up will come. I love not having any Sense.

I think it comes down to a quality issue. I never used a Cyanogen rom on the original Desire that didn't have a bug that wasn't already reported on the changelog. Not even a nightly.
Roms for the Desire S at the moment are coming with little Quality Control. We are the testers!

Have been thinking a long time about rooting my Sensation, but havent done it yet cus 4.0 is comming up in the end of march. But it got me thinking, when 4.0 comes out and I conclude. That it sucks, will i be avible to root it and innstall custom rom kernel on it? Or do I have to wait until the devs have done som magic?

same thought and when a stable ruu of sense 4.0 comes out and you like it(test it with normal kernel no custom for good test)you can s-on again and u have it tested and u can make it undone always remeber to look up ur ruu first!

All the custom ICS ROMs based on RUU 3.30.4 and 3.30.401 are very stable, fast, smooth and reliable. Sense 3.6 is a bit nicer than 3.0 or 3.5, so there's an advantage there as well.
When (if) Sense 4.0 comes out for Sensation, you'll be ready to go, we will probably get it before the general public anyway.
If you do root and want to go to an Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.3/Sense 3.6) make sure you read the threads relating to upgrading firmware etc., you can get stuck, or even brick your phone if you don't follow the instructions to the letter.

All the ICS roms out now are pretty stable and there are a lot of guides that will help you get to that moment. Make sure to READ AND UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING before you do anything to your phone!

as of now. there is 2 sense 4.0 roms. and MODS dont bash me for this.
Trips rom and Mdeejay's rom. from what i read. trip has almost everything working. and mdeejay's rom is getting there. my 2 cents

Probably not. If you are interested in the OTA I think you may be better off staying stock, unrooted.
If you do root, odds are you would have to get the updated RUU yourself and run it.
If you were planning on staying with stock ROMs and kernels, rooting is not a good idea, if only for the warranty issues.

Read thru XDA. This is the largest group of Android development reviewers on the planet.
My recommendation would be InsertCoin 4.6.1.
The S4X build will be stable in a couple more iterations. The Virtuous Team is working hard on it.

i was staying with ARHD for to long, i would try a nonsense rom first to let you see what your phone is relly capable of. mine can have 300 mb ram free wjen not using my phone and read my sig why i sometimes need the 150 mb ram eating sense to go away
stock htc ics without root would suck anyways. ads and bloat galore
One is AOSP and the other based on HTC's. But if sense is stripped from HTC's, what is the diff?

From what I can tell, Quattro is based rom that has been built from source with custom modifications and tweaks. The entire ROM is brand new, taking no application or framework components from any prior releases. Whereas Inquisition, I believe is sort of like Sense Rom but with the Sense features removed.
forget the stripped and non stripped , u only need to knw wat i wrote , although technically there is no differnce if there are no htc apps n **** xD just alil wierdness in interface like u have.....

I tend to say NO to SENSE! I can't stand heavy software and so on. The file itself is twice as big as the pure AOSP rom
Sense 4 is better, but I would rather have the fastest, cleanest..... yeah yeah, you know what I mean...

Thanks for that. I guess you need to be a developer to really understand the diff between one and another. It might be safe to say, though, that the INQUISITION ROM would be a more stable rom since it "feels" at home on the sensation. It uses the known and the recognized. I wonder though, if it also means it should be faster as well, and bring other benefits such as better battery life.
I think only the developer himself (because he understands the code better..... in a sense, he is NEO where as the ROM is the Matrix) can answer this.....

As the title states, I would love to see a sense 5 ROM ported from one of the newer Desire series (300,600,700 etc) to our ageing Desire S.
a willing tester here if anyone is up for it.
I can see there is one for the Desire HD which is essentially the same spec as our device.

I really want to do some porting for the Desire S, but I don't have one. I already ported Carbon 4.3, but I had to end that project because of the lack of a testing device. If anyone has a Desire S they don't want anymore and they are willing to donate it to me, you can expect a lot of Desire HD roms to come to the Desire S.

Porting sense 5, there is one major problem and thats why id say no one has already tried, sense 5 is jellybean so we would need a new kernel to support sense and jb, im not sure exactly but the main issue would be the kernel and i think @kylon (kernel dev) doesnt have a desire s anymore either and he was prob our best bet for the kernel.

yh would be good coz theres not really much happening on the ds recently, most devs have moved on
Why don't you look out for a damaged one and get the parts from parts4repair.com ?
I find the DS one of best repairable devices I know so far.
All you need is a T5 and a PH00 Screwdriver and a guitar pick for some things
If you need some internal repair documents, I can provide you with some.

He hasn't mentioned porting it to the desire s, and seeing as we don't have a kernel capable of running jb+sense, I think it's highly unlikely that it ever will get ported.

I seen there's an ION capable kernel on the desire HD forum so maybe it's possibe to port it...

it will be even better to make it working on MDDI devices, I dont need a newer device, DS' performance is enough for my needs, but Im stuck with ICS, its like being stuck with Vista on computer and can not upgrade to 7 or 8

More like not even started. Again, we would a kernel for sense 5 JB, untill then, keep dreaming.
