[Q] Phone crashing on Incoming calls - HTC Desire S

I have a really annoyin problem:
Sometimes when I get incoming call my phone crashes/freezes for few seconds, and then restarts into SIM PIN entering screen.
I'm using stock ROM, updated to the latest version.
Is this a common issue? Can I do anything else about it except for warranty repair?
Thanks

I'd consider getting your Sim card replaced fire a new one, before you return the device

Another silly thought. I had occasional problems with mine when I first got it and there were references on here (can't find them right now) to 'shimming' the SIM card.
Basically it may be very slightly loose, so if you remove it, fold a slim piece of paper (say 4 cm by 1.5 cm) in half lengthwise and slide it into the SIM slot so that some of it is still sticking out for holding on to. Then slide the SIM card in under the piece of paper. This can provide enough extra grip to hold the card in place.
You might as well give that a try - you've got nothing to lose and it's a lot quicker than getting the phone replaced.

how about another one, along the same lines, a loose battery could also result in this issue as when you pick up the phone the shake could disconnect the battery contacts for a split second, so try to pad the battery also with a folded piece of paper to guarantee the contacts stay together - cant do any harm and a very cheap option

it is also caused by record call, call identify or etc. apps. it happened to me

Touch Cruise fails to recognize the SIM card

I was happy with my TC from January 08 till a last saturday.
With no any visible reason (moisture, hits e.t.c.), it fails to recognize the SIM card.
Soft/Hard reset was performed. The SIM is tested on other phone and is ok. Other SIM cards (different operators) inserted in TC gives the same result "No SIM card".
Contacts are clean. VCC/GND pins on SIM connector gives long pulse of power on phone bootup stage.
Any ideas guys?
Is it posible fault of SIM EMI filter? (if it have a place in HTC phones)
Can it be some fail in Radio ROM?
The TC have original ROM 1.25.405.1 WWE and Radio: 1.58.21.23
POLA100 SPL-1.25.0000 CPLD-2
And never was reprogrammed.
Thanks
check hard ware plz sir
Test with another sim card
I've seen the same on my TC a while a after upgrading to Bepe's rom and Murata radio.
Mine was sporadic on when it picked up the sim card. Sometimes it would just show next to no signal and after switching the radio off then on it'll show no sim with a reset workin sometimes.
Fiexed mine by flashing back to an older O2 radio rom then back to Murata, and got better signal strength as well
I'd say different radio rom's can definetly cause this but if you haven't upgraded the radio it's probly a hardware thang, return it!

5 different SIM cards ill tried yesterday.
Local retail is not giving support to phones purchased in other countries.
No response from HTC. How many days it’s take to answer to e-mail?
It's driving me crazy!

Interesting. Seems like Radio ROM is responsible to interfacing the SIM. But I really haven't upgraded the ROMs before. So if it possible data corruption on flash? I think it should be ECC protected.
If the HTC support will stay sleeping, I think, I can't help but reprogram the Radio ROM...and open the motherboard to some inspection...and void the waranty...and brick my device...and smash it on the wall. This issue is realy depressing me. It's looks like I have now a super expansive, relatively new PDA, including: GPS, camera, WiFi....but with no phone! Hard to realize that the name of the device "Touch Cruise" meaning endless cruising of the phone from customer to support lab and back after they touch him.
I feel your pain man.
maybe see if your current radio rom is avaliable here or dump it yourself (just for warranty return purposes) then try flashing a few other radio roms???
It's easy as hell and won't void your warranty.

Ok. It is definitely a f***g HW problem.
I tried different Radio and System ROMs, but same result: "The SIM card is missing".
Now are options: some cold soldering have a place; burned ESD protection device on SIM card interface CLK / I/O or Controller logic.
A big dilemma is: void the warranty and try to find this **** by myself or send it to replace. Anybody has a deal with a HTC warranty return? Definitely it's can take a lot of weeks to mailing the unit and waiting for result.
Bad HW quality I have to say. My old good Himalaya survived after deep diving to hot soup, followed motherboard cleaning, display replacing and gives stable work over 3 years after that, so many drops on the floor. (thank you, folks, for providing Himalaya WM5, wich was so more stable than HTC crap were shipped)
And this, Tom Cruise, after so short period of extremely gentle using, only have to say me: "No SIM".
So i go to find and prepare my tools. A next possible weak place in the chain: mr. ESD protection EMI Filter.
P.S. Maybe someone here can help with a relevant peace of "Polaris Service Manual"?
I need you support guys, and feeling more stronger with you!
(HTC support still keep the silence, nothing but automatic reply of e-mail robot to each request with congratulations. They all are in holiday or something?)
I had the same problem with mine.
My Touch Cruise worked OK with sim card the first weeks. Then it started eventualy not recognicing the sim card. After removing it and placing it back, I could get it back recogniced until one day, it didn't work any more. I sent it to the HTC support, 6 weeks later they sent me back. They told me they replaced the motherboard.
The rom was the original one. I didn't do any rom o radio upgrade.
I'm spanish and my english is not very good.

It's ok, my mother language is russian and now I'm in Israel, so my english is far from beeing a perfect to. Today is a 4-th day I'm waiting to answer from HTC.
Simple measurements without opening the TC body gives:
pin 1 - VCC 3V is OK
pin 2 - Reset is OK
pin 3 - CLK - Nothing!!!
pin 4 - GND is OK
pin 5 - Vpp not interesting at this stage
pin 6 - Data I/O is OK
Clock is not provided to the SIM, thats all.
Is EMI gasket behind the connector in place?
clock is very important no - clk no data
m/b provide clock and reset signal , i/o signal is two way signal from sim to m/b and from m/b to sim
this protocol is I2C
thats why need all 5 signals ready
GND, VCC - 1.8 - 3.3v automatic, I/O ,RESET ,Clock
old sim card was 5v but now are from 1.8 - 3.3v
Think i have the same problem...
Did you find a fix for it? or you just send it back to HTC for repairing?.
I've also read in other threads, that sticking a peace of paper between the card holder and the battery cover, giving some pressure to the sim against the contacs pins may solve the problem. Trying now, working so long... Hope will work, i don't want to be 6 week waiting for my phone to get back...
EDLL
did you guys ever found a solution to this? or Warranty is the only way to go ?
Hi guys,
Same problem happens to my Touch Cruise... I've tried many things as well and found no help. Dismantling the unit to check the gasket, remove and remount the SIM socket showed no improvement.
The SIM was sometimes recognized after unmounting / remounting the unit, but after a few hours, "No SIM" message again.
I've tried to messure GND connections on the SIM socket (since GND is provided by the gasket) and all was fine.
Also tried to place the piece of paper in between the batery cover and the SIM socket... and turned to be useless.
Also, manualy sticking the SIM card against the SIM contacts (without the SIM driver metal door) and nothing...
I'm planning to request for a brand new SIM socket... but after reading all your comments... I'm not quite sure if the problem will remain with the replacement or not.
I have changed the ROM and radio several times with no success as well.
If somebody thinks anything else can be done to sove this problems... please help!!
Thanks and regards,
Vissi
SIM dependent issue
Hi,
I'm facing a similar issue: I use my Touch Cruise almost for a year with no issues. Now I decided to change provider, and purchased a prepaid SIM card to test the service, call quality, etc.
When I inserted the new SIM, I got this no SIM message. Tried several times with no success.
The new SIM card works fine in other phones, as well as the TC with my original SIM card.
Any idea?
Cheers

[Q] (No Sim Detected) | (No Service)

HI all, I am currently using khalpowers V4, and was using Dexter's 1.3 before too.
What is happening is that every hour or so, the phone will detect no sim card. I'll have to remove battery, take out sim, re insert in, and HOPE it works on my next reboot (chances varies, some times it takes a while before it reads again).
I am not sure if its a hardware or software issue, my sim card is fairly scratched (don't know if that plays a role in this).
What i realize recently is that once i get that problem, i can get into open recovery and wipe DALVIK cache, and it'll detect it again without having me to remove and reinsert my sim card.
Was wondering if this is just me or the rom? Or if anyone have any experience with this kind of madness, this is driving me nuts as i have to restart my phone every hour.

i'll agree with this
it's probably the SIM card that has got scratched, faulty, or something happened to it
i had to replace mine a while back for similar reasons
actually i was unable to send SMS out, but i was able to receive.
and incidentally i'll randomly get no signal
after i changed the SIM card for a new one, all the problems went away.
that was on my other phone.
never had problem on the XT720
extract rar folder then take the only (sub khalpowers V4 folder) and put the SD card installed .... ok ......You'll see it works ... the problem is the double folder

Thanks, i just wanted to confirm if it really is the sim, i suspect it is, but the thing is that it KINDA works, and then don't.... i guess i'll have to invest in a new sim card. Anyone know if Wind will give me a new one if i whine to them?

Could it be a loose connection? I've read about people that have trouble with loose connections on their SD cards positioning a piece of paper to increase the contact force.

yup, i got my replacement for free, but you have to first call customer service, and explain to them what is going on
then if they believe it's a SIM problem, they will tell you to go to any corporate store, and they will replace it for you at no charge
the CS will put a note on your profile, which the store can look up, and honour the free SIM replacement.

unfortunately i tried that already, but executed the idea in a VERY poor way, i actually put the paper at the tip of the sim and pushed it in to make the contact better, BUT when i slide the sim out, the papaer was still stuck inside, now i can't push my sim in all the way.... at least it still works .....
felt retarded, but at least lesson learned ><

Thanks i'll give them a call and give it a try.
I had the exact same problem for a week. At first the SIM got disconnected after leaving the phone idle for 10-20 minutes, then after many reboots the SIM card wouldn't be detected at all.
I got it replaced for free as well, and some of my other messaging and call problems went away too. =)

GPS Problem (well researched)

I have an inspire running coredroid v8.1 and I cannot get a gps lock at all, even if I let it sit outside for 10 minutes...
I have reflashed the rom several times, and even tried the newest versions of virtuosity and cm
I have followed the video to pull the phone apart and I'm positive the gold pins are making connection
I have tried angel death's patch
I have ran gps status and cleared and re-downloaded in a-gps settings, ran gps test, and ran faster fix
I have tried the trick where you pull the sim out and get a lock (I still get no lock even with no sim)
I've looked everywhere and tried to do all the research before posting a new thread, but I just can't find anything else and I don't know what my problem is...
any insight would be greatly appreciated
EDIT: Also thought I should include that I have flashed radios 12.41.60.19_26.06.04.14_M, 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2, and 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M with none making a difference
Sorry to tell you but you might just have a bad thing piece of harware. I started a thread a little while ago called "GPS Last Resort". I tried everything... And I mean Everything! I was told that there were "known" hardware issues with the Inspire. So I un-rooted and returned to a "stock" state and went through the PITA process of getting a replacement.
Once I got my replacement, it was a night and day difference. My new one locks in less than 15 seconds with 5-4 meters accuracy.
Don't drive yourself crazy. If it is still under warranty, get it replaced.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
did your phone have any other signs of being defective or was it just the gps? I mean, the phone is great except for this! No boot loops, force closes, glitches, or anything...
Also, if it's just the antenna, could I buy an inspire with like a broke screen or something off ebay and just switch them out? Do you think that's a viable option?
Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this...
You may not even need to replace the antenna at all. When you pop off the cover for the LED camera flash (this is also your gps antenna) there are two little spring like clips that are the contacts for the antenna. If those contacts are not making a good connection - your phone will just keep searching for signal. If you are brave enough - you can pop out the antenna and carefully bend out those contact clips in order to make a better connection.
I was hesitant to do this myself - and sense the phone was still under warranty, I got a replacement.
Sorry again for the delay - hope that helps if you have not already found an answer.

Yea be careful with this. I decided I'd go ahead and pop off the camera cover to readjust my gps antennae contacts and ended up breaking the cover. ~2cm crack just under the flash, which raises up the cover enough that the contacts won't make contact at all unless I'm applying pressure that only Thor could exert on the cover.
side note - 2 weeks after I did this my screen shattered.
Haven't been having much luck lately..

Sensation: Keyboard Vibration not working

Hello,
I have a problem with the Keyboard vibration on my Sensation.
This is the story. I currently have a HD2 with Android CM7 (ACA) i really like it but i want a better camera. The one in the HD2 simply sux. Thats the only bad thing about that phone.
A Friend of mine had a sensation witch is 1-2 months old. He wanted a iphone 4S so i bought the phone. (he turned the vibration off @ day 1 do i dont know is this problem was alway's there)
I did not try the stock rom yet but in any other rom: ARHD, IncertCoin, Energy, LeeDroid i have the same problem.
My Keyboard vibration will stop working same goes for vibration when being called. I tried multiple roms, kernels and Radio's.
That had no effect. I also tried: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/fix-htc-sensation-unresponsive-screen-issue-diy-guide/
But that did not help. What i did find out is the following:
-If the keyboard does not work i remove the the battery cover and it works again.
-It will also keep working as long as i keep the cover removed. If i put it back on it will keep working for a little while before it stops again.
-If i put paper between the silver connector on the side it wont make a difference it works for a while and then stops.
-If i put paper between the bottom copper connector it works better. Sometime it stops but it seems to work a bit longer. And if it stops it sometimes will come back without removing the cover. I still have a phone signal and wifi signal.
Does anyone know what that bottom antenna is for? I heard more people have this problem. Does anyone know what is causing it?
Thanks in advance!
Update. The bottom Antenna is the GPS Antenna.
Covering that is no fix for the problem only seems to improve it a bit.
If i cover one of the top antenna's it does not work at all.
the one at the top is for the Wifi and telephone. the one below that i dont know yet. But i still had a signal when that was covered.
Update 2:
I think i found the problem. The vibration motor is located under the Sim card.
When i remove the cover and put presure on the front side just below the back button and the back side on the left side of the sim card near the edge of the phone it does not work anymore.
So i think there is a connection problem with the motor. I'm not pressing on the rotating part of the motor so it could spin if it was working.
I guess i will have to send it in :'(
I used to have a Desire and the vibration would sometimes stop working, I'd just tap the phone with my hand and it would work again. Not ideal really.
I have similar problems. Going to call HTC tomorrow to get it fixed.

S7 External SD notification card reading issue

I have read on many forum about the issue of the external SD being somehow "ejected". People tried every possible solutions, including buying new SD cards, reformatting, etc. I had this issue myself. I did not find any solution neither anyone has found one on other forums. But 2 days ago I did found it.
Everytime you restart your phone, the issue will come back. In order to get rid of the constant notification, here is what I found. It is not a hardware problem (bad connection, etc) neither a software issue as everybody believes.
It is simply that the phone need to scan the SD everytime you restart it. And the notification will continue to come back until you do this.
1) open the notification. This will bring you directly in your SD content.
2) open each folder you have on it. This will make the phone scan it's content. And you have to do it in order to get rid of the notification.
This needs to be done everytime you restart the phone. Once you have done the 2 steps above, your SD content will stay "locked" untill you start the phone again.
I have been a long time member of xda and I did not post for over 2 years. So if my post is not in the right section please do not hesitate to move it to the right section / tread.
Thank you and I really hope this will help a lot of of us.
it is a hardware problem. my replacement unit doesn't have this issue at all with any of my cards.
Thanks

Can you tell me how long you have had the new phone? I have gone about a day without the notification and I just want to make sure that your new phone has gone several days without the issue. I had my phone replaced already last Saturday and the new phone is doing the same thing as the old phone. If it is actually a hardware problem, I have gotten 2 bad phones. I would hope this is unlikely or Samsung has a big problem on their hands.

my first unit was February build with all kinds of issues: reoccurring SD card notification, poor screen uniformity, audio distortion through headphones when the phone was upside down, too sensitive screen.
the new phone (March build) i got last Wednesday has none of those, zilch.
Are you really sure it's an hardware related issue ?
i also have the same problem...

how do you explain it otherwise? first phone had it with any card at random intervals, the new one has zero.
i used adoptable storage and the message disappeared... the memory management is different that's all
i think this may be related to some Roms since all S7 owners are not all concerned
I have just read this.
However, I know lots of people complaining this did not fix the issue : www.gottabemobile.com
And this too

My notifications have died down after the recent security update on T-Mo. Maybe just a coincidence. It's also encrypted.

I've restarted it a dozen times. Both notifications always appear after a restart. This is normal. I was getting the notifications randomly throughout the day. Sometimes certain apps would also lose access to the card.
I'm at 20 hours now with no random notifications. It's looking good.

The update didn't seem to help my phone on Verizon.
Totally solved for me
I just wanted to update you. I did the procedures as mentioned in the links I posted above.
One of the step involve to "slowly" replace the tray in its position. Ensure you do it.
I did not use my pc adaptor to do my backup on my PC. I used a usb connected to the phone.
One thing though: I had only 14gb of data on my card. I was able to move it all to the phone (as well as the pc) and this brought me to 31gb in my phone. So when I re-formatted my SD using the setting from the phone, I was able to just re-transfer the content on it from the phone without using my pc backup.
It has been 3 days without any fault reading and notification pop-up.
For those who have way more stuff on their SD, I would ensure that you transfer them from the phone on your pc, and not using a SD adaptor directly in your pc. I do not know if this makes a difference, but I would not take the chance. Use the USB adaptor (phone to pc).
Also, I have noticed that all the treads around the web which dealt with the subject (not only on xda) have since a week or more got quiet, which means that the issue is kind of resolved.
Putting back the tray slowly in is one of the KEY procedure to follow. This does mean that the tray is kind of not perfectly designed (hardware issue). So it is a possibility that some of you do have a somehow more sensitive tray. It also means that it may degrade overtime (with the cold, and heat, sun, etc.). This tray should not have been designed with weak material (ie: rubber). It should have been made with hard plastic or something else. This decision may have been made for the waterproofing of the device. However, I believe that they could have sealed it properly using stronger material.
We have a one-year warranty and the summer is coming. If you feel that it degrades overtime, return the device. I would not do so right now as the production lines will not adapt to this problem for a few months. I would say 6+ months.
I hope this helps.

The update didn't help but the 2nd new phone seems to have fixed the problem. I'm over 24 hours now with a notification. I think it is finally fixed. I still can't believe that I had 2 bad phones in a row but it appears to be what the problem was.
