Three network - HTC Desire S

Hello
How do I add Three UK Network Buttons to my HTC Desire S. The phone is unlocked to all networks and is unbranded. I am with Three. My previous phone is a Three phone and has the buttons on the main screen.

Hi Gill,
What do you mean by the 'Network Buttons'? If these are short-cuts to Three services then they will almost certainly have been part of a specific Three ROM or software on your previous phone. The whole point of an unbranded phone is that it doesn't carry any of the bloat that service providers put on top.
If you really want that sort of stuff then you would probably have to root your phone and install a Three branded ROM instead of whatever is on there now.
Unless (and I have no idea on this) Three have their own app-store or equivalent which would let you install the bits you want?

Maybe the Three application could be an alternative:

Soon-to-be TP2 owner questions

Hi
I am new here and will soon be getting my Telus HTC TP2 and unlocking it myself via mobileincanada.com i had a couple of questions:
will i have any trouble unlocking?
i am buying it used so do i have to clear the ESN before i can use it? or what should i know about the ESN?
can i install the apps, .cab files found in the other section? or do i have to find CDMA only apps? Do apps work for both GSM and CDMA?
can i reset to factory defaults from settings to eliminate the previous owners info and data? or is there a button key combination?
is there a way to make Opera the default browser on the Internet tab?
is there a way to apply a diferent theme without installing a different ROM (since i've read we cannot do that yet for CDMA)?
is there anything else i should know as a new owner/user?
this is all i can think of for the moment. any and all help is much appreciated
thanks!
1) CDMA TP2's cannot be unlocked as of yet, I know that the community is working diligently on it.
2)You can't "clear" the ESN, it's the electronic serial number unique to each phone, it's kinda strange that you're able to find one used already, what you should check to see is if the phone was reported stolen, so basically you need to call your carrier and check to see if you will be able to activate that phone on their network.
Here's a relate post on another forum (mostly regarding a sprint phone but same idea)
http://cellphoneforums.net/sprint-pcs/t224073-how-clear-sprint-esn.html
3)You can install just about any app you want as long as it's compatible or signed *scratches head* I think there's a tweak cab file on ppc geeks that enables unsigned apps here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=78019
4)Yes, not sure what the button combo is for sprint but for my verizon tp2 it's
-make sure the phone is OFF
-hold the "volume down" (the button on the side with the "-" on it) AND the send key (green button)
-While holding said buttons, press the power on button (red button) and follow the onscreen prompts.
5)It already is.
6)You can always disable Touch Flo 3D from the Today options or even install SPB Mobile Shell (I think that's what it's called) for a different theme, but if you're just talking about normal windows mobile 6.1 today themes, just disable Touch Flo 3D from the today menu in your options screen (All settings) and install themes you normally would as with any other version of WinMo 6.1
7) Phone works best with a good data plan and just like any other windows mobile device, expect to do a soft-reset every other day. And be ready for people asking you if you got a new type of iphone or that IS an iphone or if your phone has anything to do with the iphone.
thanks for your quick reply however i do know for a fact that TELUS TP2's can be unlocked i just happened to come across one person who had difficulty. that's why i was asking.
actually here this is the people that do the unlocking and they have a video on there. if you pause at the right time you can see the IMEI which is strange to me since i though CDMA phones were supposed to have ESN.
Click here for the site that unlocks the TELUS TP2 and the video where you can see the IMEI and unlocking demonstration. its a youtube video but make sure you have the plugins or use an appropriate browser or something because i couldnt see it on IE but i could with Chrome.
actually looking at the video again there are 4 numbers titled:
IMEI
WEID (first letter a little hard to make out)
S/N (is this the ESN?)
P/N
im attaching a screenshot.
Hi subby! I think what's tripping people up is your use of the word "unlock".
From the article you posted, the summary states: "You can see how to enter the unlock code to unlock GSM on the Telus HTC Touch Pro 2 Worldwide Edition." This is talking about unlocking GSM.---
---When people in this forum talk about 'unlocking', they're referring to the ability to load a different Hard SPL, so that they can install WM 6.5 on the phone. These are two completely different uses of the word "unlock."
I'm not sure which one you meant in your original post, but the TP2 does NOT have a HSPL released for it. So, you're stuck with WM6.1 (until HTC releases WM 6.5 in a few days)
The phone's great, however. I'd def. recommend.

Where are my transferred apps (or why didn't they transfer)? (From S4 to S7)

Hello all,
This is only my second smartphone, so it's my first major data transfer from one phone (S4) to another (obviously the S7). I did the initial set up when I activated my phone. NEC, Smart Switch, etc. Some apps are now moved over, but obviously not all of the apps are on my phone (I double checked from old phone to new phone). If I go to the Play Store I see a long list of my apps, and they say "installed" and "open", which I can do, but they still aren't on my app screens. Some I originally downloaded through Amazon, which was a little harder to access the app store on the new phone (they don't seem to provide the app button for that), but after finally getting it I could see every app I ever downloaded with the ability to install them again.
I can do it manually for every app I don't have--but do I have to? Is there a better way? Why didn't the transfers switch all of the apps from one phone to the other (and again, some missing are both from Google and Amazon). And since I'm asking all these questions, is there a way to get all of the same settings for the apps from one phone to another? Even the ones that did transfer initially had to be set up again for how I like it (or if it's a game it has me starting at the beginning). I guess I thought that would be more of a straight transfer, with all data settings included. I obviously don't know all the ins and outs of smartphone ownership and app information.
Thanks for the help!

The watch does not see the GSM module, watch2 lte

Hello. I bought a watch with a SIM card from the Chinese, (Huawei smart watch2 3449 leo-dlxx, build number nxh20b) rolled the firmware, but the watch does not see the SIM card. Moreover, after flashing, when the clock is turned on, an error appears: Device software can't be checked for corruption. To pause boot, press side button. I press the top button the following message comes out: Visit this link on another device: g.co/ABH. To continue boot press side buttom.
If you do not press anything, then the watch is loaded further, and you can use it in conjunction with the phone. I wanted to ask you who knows what can be done to make the gsm module work?
First of all, that's not an error, that is just a tip, telling you that the rom of the device has been modified. In some situations, it could bring potential risks (but mostly it's fine, as long as the change is made by YOU).
The rom on your device is probably the chinese version, so there is NO gms, in this case you might need to flash an international version into your device.
Watch 2 has bluetooth version and sim card version, so pick the right one when you download.

Balmuda Phone softbank model unlocked but unable to update

Hello everyone,
As title, I got a Balmuda Phone (unlocked ver.) from Japan, no other problem happened until I tried to update to the newest software version.
Since there are two model released, softbank model and sim free one from Balmuda Tech.. After asking for support from both of their costumer center.
I realized that, the softbank model runs sim check every time trying to update even the phone has already been unlocked by softbank itself.
They told me either I insert a softbank sim or send it back as it needs to be repaired.
It's probably not the last version of the phone, so either way will solve the problem from the root.
There're official opensource files released by Balmuda Tech. as the following page:
https://tech.balmuda.com/jp/support/oss/
I'm wondering if these files may be the solution that helps me change softbank model into a sim free one, which avoids sim check while updating.
Or just update the phone manually.
According to the model and version, the two files in every zip are:
kernel_(model name)_(version name).a.tar.gz
opensource_(model name)_(version name).a.tar.gz
Need some technical supports here, because I can't even tell if these files are enough to achieve the aim.
If they are, I'd like to know the specific method, and if they're not I'd like to be notice.
Really appreciate for any advices or technical supports. Asking question about an unpopular phone is just like finding a lost needle from the ocean LOL.
Since I got the phone at a very low price (24000 JPY with shipping, around 170 USD), I might just leave the update problem alone after all.
BTW, To not get into the trouble which I did, the sim free model is the one recommended to everyone who'd like to get a Balmuda Phone.
Thx

Hi! There is a solution to updating the Softbank version to new firmware (which have been coming once about every two months; the latest is Android 12). Namely, remove your SIM, reset the phone, after reset make sure Location / GPS is off, then install OpenVPN (de.blinkt.openvpn available on APKmirror among others) then JapanVPN Plugin for OpenVPN (available e.g. on APKpure). Connect to JapanVPN then search for the update, and it will be there. Then re-install your apps etc.
It has always worked for me (also works on other Softbank phones, such as the Sharp Aquos R/R2 Compact). The key trick is to remove the SIM, then reset, then install nothing (not even google) before the OpenVPN.
And yes, this means you have to go through this hoop every two months (if you will want to update). But the phone is so great that it's worth it.

Or you could just download the updated firmware on a PC and then manually update the device. Doing it that way does not require removing the SIM or changing any settings or resetting the device or using VPN. No need to jump through hoops for every update when you can just simply download the update manually and flash it on the device manually. Why complicate it if you don't have to? Besides, OTA updating is not as reliable as manually updating, OTA updates often screw devices up, requiring reflashing or repairing the device using a PC, why take the chance when you can just update the device manually and avoid the risks and having to jump through all the hoops?

Good point, but the last two updates are still is not online to download.
Hi OP, I found these instructions on Reddit which I used to get my Softbank Balmuda Phone updated in the UK. It is now running Android 12 and has the latest update. There is no fota update as described so skip that step.
"1 remove sim card 2 download proton vpn (it's free) 3 go to apps/all apps (show system apps)search for framework and clear data google services framework then go to google play services and clear all data as well then search for (fota update) and clear data 4 go to settings/system/ time& date and select manually time zone to tokyo 5 reboot device 6 open proton vpn and connect to japan server 6 go and check ota and BOOM you will get ota opdates It's pretty painful process but you have to do once in a while to get all security patches
FYI This trick works on every single japan carrier phones such as sharp aquos or sony or lg whatever phone came from japan Enjoy"

I updated my Softbank Balmuda Phone using the following steps in Thailand:
- Download OpenVPN (from PlayStore)
- Download Japan VPN (Plugin for OpenVPN) (from Playstore)
- Set Location = Off (Phone settings)
- Connect VPN
- Go to System and start downloading the update
During the update you can also disconnect the VPN for faster dowload.
That's it. No cache clearing or changing time zone.

You mean it worked without a reset of the phone? I tried a million times in exactly this way and it never worked. Reset always necessary.

I just got the phone last week and it came with 1200 firmware. When I turn on the phone for the first time, I signed in with my google account and did what I wrote earlier (no simcard inserted). I was able to get every consecutive updates till 1240 without having to hard reset my phone.

Thanks, that explains it: you did not install apps and accounts either, just clean install after clean install. Once you populate your phone, you'll have to reset to get the new updates.
First of all, thank you guys for the workarounds (for me tne one that Beardpunk had posted worked well).
Although it's a bit weird that the phone gets updates incremetally (mine first up to 1,200OP from the archaic version the phone came with a year ago, then to 1.210, at the very moment ver. 1.220 is being downloaded) instead of jumping to the latest one at once, but that's not an issue, the issue is that I can't see any option for an eSIM activation yet, though afaik Balmuda claimed to have added it since ver. 1.052 almost year ago.
Were you guys able to find eSIM activation option after the update?
Mine is A101BM (Softbank officially unlocked) if makes any difference.

Freebie without lock screen code

Hey,
Our company some time ago exchanged all Android phones with iPhones. The Androids are still piled there and I got permission to get a Z3 for the kids. Loading worked despite the long time without power, but the user did not reset the phone before returning, so I am now facing the lock screen with no code and no Google account to reset. The methods described to enter recovery mode do not work, I assume due to missing USB-debug option.
It probably is a D6603 with a Deutsche Telekom branded software (shows the pink T before the lock screen).
Is there any chance to use this phone? I don't mind fiddling with hardware if necessary (actually I like fiddling with hardware ). If not, I didn't pay for it, so no damage, but I do not like to throw away things that could still be used ...
