Hey!
I've flashed my Desise S with Virtuous Quattro but I'm having a whole host of problems with it. I know that HTC are releasing an official ICS update sometime before the end of the universe, but I'd like to flash my ROM back to the stock before the update so that I can actually get it.
I guess my question is how can I find out what my stock ROM was? I'm in the UK with an unbranded phone.
Thanks!
I think the stock rom for an unbranded UK phone is HTC_europe.
You can check your CID number with fastboot:
Code:
fastboot getvar cidnum
here's a list of CID attached.
How do I use fastboot? I don't know how to do that.
Follow advice given in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272595 next time try to look in the index, see link on my signature

Ok, I've followed the instructions and installed fastboot, what state does my phone need to be in for it to read the CID Number?
Thanks

Before you start modifying your device it is recommended that you adjust the following two settings:
Settings->Applications->Development->USB debugging = TICK (Yes)
Settings->Power->Fast boot = UNTICK (No) Swyped form ym Dersie S unsig XAD Permuim
Ok, done that. Does my phone need to be on? Off? In recovery?
Sorry went through a non mobile reception area....lost last response....
Now you need to restart the phone into bootloader mode as opposed into recovery.
Assuming that your running stock ROM and you switched off fastboot option as instructed earlier.
Turn off your phone.
Wait a few seconds.
Then Hold [volume-down] and [power] when the phone's turned off - to switch it back on
It should enter bootloader screen.....(you see little skateboarding Androids at the bottom of the screen)
Then plug in the USB cable from PC
FASTBOOT should switch to FASTBOOT USB
then attempt the fastboot commands from PC

Hey there,
Been learning the ins and outs of installing custom ROMs on my Sensation for the past few weeks and I've hit a bit of a roadblock here. When I first turned on the phone (bought used off Ebay, T-Mobile branded) it told me there was a firmware update, which put me to 2.3.4. I'd like to be able to revert to an older firmware version so I can run CM7 as it doesn't seem to be compatible with 2.3.4.
Current Setup:
Hboot 1.18.000
Radio 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M
Android 2.3.4
S-ON
CID - TMOBO01
I first used the HTCDev unlock tool provided by HTC to unlock the bootloader. Hindsight tells me this is where I've gone wrong, as it unlocks bootloader but doesn't S-OFF, doesn't root the phone, and doesn't allow me to SuperCID. After HTCDev unlock I used HTCSuperTool3 to root the phone to allow CWR and install custom ROMs.
With the bootloader being unlocked and the phone rooted, when I try to S-OFF using the HTCSuperTool it just says the process has failed, and when I type in my key on the Revolutionary site the command prompt says 'Invalid Beta Key.' Yes, I am certain I've typed it right, I've tried on 3 or 4 different occasions, case sensitive and all that.
I've tried to restore stock RUU (downloaded all 3 TMobile versions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559 and all give me error 155 and won't do anything) and when I try to flash older firmware in bootloader from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 it says "Parsing....PG58IMG.zip" and then just returns me to the bootloader screen, no options to continue with update or anything like that.
Any ideas on how I could get past the 155 Error or flash an older firmware succesfully?
Alternatively, I have been able to flash ARHD 3.6.13, but Wireless Internet isn't working, which I definitely need. Settings > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi...says "Error" and won't do anything. I'd be happy running the phone like this for the time being if wireless can work...I've searched the forums and haven't found a fix. I did check the MD5 after I put the ROM onto the SD card and it checked out fine. Currently on the 3rd reinstall of ARHD, all have had no wireless internet.
Thanks for your time!

You only have the option to revert back to stock RUU. Then redo Revolutionary method to S-OFF your device.
Choose an RUU with HBOOT1.17 and boot into bootloader (not Recovery). Your phone should say Fastboot connected via USB or something similar.
Then try to flash the RUU. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the response, musarraff!
I've gone into Bootloader, entered Fastboot, connected to my computer so it says Fastboot USB and unfortunately both TMOUS_1.29.531 and TMOUS_1.27.531 are still giving me the 155 error. Anything else I can do? I don't understand why this is happening.
A 155 error could mean an incompatible CID. Using adb, query what CID your phone is
From the Super CID instructions.
4. open command prompt (or terminal for linux) and type "cd" "followed by the path to your adb folder" (windows users can type "cd C:\adb")
5. Ensure your phone is switched on (regular home screen) and connect it by USB in charging mode (Ensure usb debugging is on settings)
6. enter the command "adb devices". This is to confirm your phone is connected. (It should come back with list of devices attached and your serial number)
7. enter the command "adb reboot-bootloader". (nothing further required device WILL reboot in bootloader)
IF it doesn't you can Manually put the phone in the bootloader/hboot mode
Navigate to fastboot by pressing volume down and pressing power button to select (power off > vol down + power on)
It will take you to the fastboot bootloader screen on your phone
Connect your phone via USB
Your Screen should now read fastboot USB
10. enter the command "fastboot getvar cid" [it should confirm what your CID is ]
If it doesnt match what is needed for the TMOUS RUU then it will not flash. You may then want to follow the SuperCID instructions and give it a CID of 11111111 or whatever CID you want to match the TMOUS RUU.

You need to use the newest tmous ruu, as the ones you tried are very outdated (older hboot). Since you didn't s-off, you can't downgrade the bootloader. The newest tmous ruu is:
RUU_Pyramid_TMOUS_1.50.531.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_223976_signed
Can't find a link right now but i know there is one somewhere. Run this ruu then do revolutionary to obtain s-off

I've tried to SuperCID rewrite before and tried it again just now, but it doesn't work. I think it's because my device is S-ON, which I can't turn to S-OFF as neither Revolutionary or HTCSuperTool will do it with the way my phone is right now.
My command prompt gives me this when I try to SuperCID:
vreg_set: request is duplicated id 14
pyramind_init_sd, SD card power on ok
sdcc_init_memory_device done
[FAT_ERROR] fat_open_file: can not find SMART_IO.CRD
[JAVACARD_ERR] SMART_IO.CRD cann't find
My CID is T-MOB010. The Shipped Rom thread doesn't have specific info on what RUU works with what CID, but I'd assume that TMOUS RUUs would work for that CID. As I said earlier, I've tried all three and still the the error. I found something in the XDA Archives where people we saying as long as the phone is T-MOB010 it should work with TMOUS RUUs as that's what it looks for.
Thanks for your input!

I've already downloaded and tried flashing that one as well, I got TMOUS 1.50.531.1 from the Pyramid Shipped Rom thread in the Development forum. I was hoping that would work since it's the same firmware I currently have, and then I could S-OFF and downgrade firmware. Just tried running it again for fun, but it still gives me the 155 Error, even when in Fastboot USB mode in the bootloader. The progress bar said something about 'Updating Signature' for a split second and then error 155 comes up. Makes me sad.
Have you tired extracting the rom.zip from that ruu, renaming it PG58IMG.zip and flashing it through bootloader?
---------- Post added at 03:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:08 PM ----------
Start the RUU and let it load up completely (to the main screen that shows the phone). Once it loads, click Start > Run and type
Code:
%temp%
Sort folders by date, and open the newest one (should look something like {8g76djxxxxxx}). In that folder will be a ZIP file called ROM.zip. Copy it to your desktop and rename it PG58IMG.zip. Once done, flash through bootloader.

Just tried it with all three of the stock TMOUS RUUs; they load for a bit and then quickly say "Wrong Zipped Image" before returning back to the main bootloader screen. None of them gets far enough to wipe out my current ROM, I can always just turn the phone off and return back to the current ROM without restoring it.
Thanks though, it's not within my understanding to have come up with trying to install it that way. Any other suggestions?

try updating to the unlocked 3.24 firmware...cm7 isnt compatible with that firmware but its worth a try. you could then upgrade to a 3.5 or 3.6 sense. or one of the few aosp ics roms

Yeah, I'll keep that in mind, but I'm having so much trouble flashing stock firmware and RUUs as it is that I'm a bit leery of updating to the 3.24 firmware...if I update to that and find I don't like ICS or have any kind of troubles with it, I doubt my phone will let me return to my old Firmware and stock ROM since it's giving me so much trouble downgrading now. That'd be a bad position to be in.
Sigh. I feel like I never should have used the HTCDev unlock tool, should have just S-OFFed from the start like everyone else and then none of this would be an issue. May just have to wait it out until an official ICS RUU comes out, then maybe that will revert everything back to normal and I can S-OFF from there. I'm gonna try CoreDroid and if the Wireless Internet doesn't work on that I'll just go back to Rooted stock and at least disable all the bloatware, better than nothing.
Thanks for the response though Bryan. It's nice to have a forum that responds so quickly and is so helpful.
Hello Dear Users!
I have been a fan of Android for years but recently I rooted my Sensation 4G and it is my first rooted device!
I need help people! I want to upgrade to ICS and possibly Sense 4.0.
I also want to overclock to the max, possibly 1.8GHz?!
What do I have on my phone? What are the stats? Well.. lets see.
Android Version: 2.3.4
HTC Sense Version: 3.0
Software Number: Android Revolution HD 3.6.2 by mike1986
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.14-Sensation-faux123-v0.2.1+
[email protected] #199
SMP PREEMPT Thu Oct 6 16:12:48 PDT 2011
Model Number reads as HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio - but I know my phone is a Sensation 4G.
Daemon Controller 2.21 Beta 1
Rom Manager
Root Explorer
Spare Parts
SuperUser
These are the apps that were added when I had my phone rooted.
Please let me know what I can do!!! Which kernel versions to download and where to download them. I mainly care to overclock my Sensation to as high as possible. The ICS is defiantly a plus, but I would be scared to brick my phone!
Please let me know guys (and girls!)
Thank You very much!
Well at the moment there is only one 4.0 rom that is close to running stable(still many buggs since its a beta/test release from the endavore)
todo first:
check cid in adb(fastboot getvar cid)and download the therefor next 3.30base firmware download here
download the rom:
forum therefore click here
how to install firmware:
put the PG58IMG.zip into root of sdcard and boot up in bootloader and let it update
remove the PG58IMG.zip from the root of sdcard by an reader
put the your_rom.zip in the root of your sdcard
superwipe
flash the rom
there u go
Im sorry if this is a dumb question but... what does this mean exactly?
check cid in adb(fastboot getvar cid)and download the therefor next 3.30base firmware
what is the checking of cid in adb?

if you root u have adb setup (normally) check cid to know what firmware to download
use the command:
fastboot getvar cid
when phone is in fasyboot usb(bootloader then click the power once to go into fastboot)
You will probably want something much more functional and stable.Go for one of the "New" sense 3.6 releases based on 3.30 firmware.Read the firmware page, follow the instructions there then flash a sense 3.6 rom
What do I need to do once my phone is in in fastboot usb mode?
I held down the power and vol and my phones connected through usb.
what should I do now to check what I need to check?
im sorry guys but I am completely new to this so if possible to do like a broken down step by step i would GREATLY appreciate it! thank you

do the next things:
check Hboot(fastboot)
check cid(fastboot usb then use command: fastboot getvar cid)
check radio(fastboot)
check rom(recovery --> info)
You need to put firmware package(PG58IMG.zip-dont rename that file) to the root of the sd card, than boot in bootloader and you will get question "do you want to update",push volume up for yes, when its done remove your sd card and with card reader or other phone remove firmware package from sd card.
Then you hold vol down and power on and you will boot in bootloader again, choose recovery and then flash your rom from your sd card.
This is the easiest way to explain, and i hope that this helped you.

Dont worry, your phone still fine. You just need to flash the correct firmware, as mentioned by Alienator9191 above.
You will notice that you will need different firmware depending on sense version you using, otherwise you will experience those annoying bootloop.
You just need to copy/paste the correct firmware on root of your mem. card and boot to recovery (remove batt, hold vol down+power). it will detect the firmware (always in form of PG58IMG.zip) and install by itself.
This site will help you with the correct firmware, depending of the version of Sense you using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Furthermore, I strongly advise you to read this thead below as it will help you a lot in flashing and rooting (am sure you already done so ;p )
The way i flash ROMS is I copy the rom and compatile firmware on root of mem card. The use Rom Manager (premium) to flash the rom directly. Then as it boots up, i go straight to bootloader and it the firmware gets flashed automatically. This may be wrong way, but quickest to do.
All the best, and happy flashing!

why are you running a VM? it may be the cause for not recognising your phone..
try running from a native windows pc, virtual machines can only go so far...
You just need to install HTC driver 3.0.0.7 or smthg like that, then revolutionary, recovery, root, another rom

Hello,
I've got a Desire S, how can I detect if it has a S-OFF or S-ON ?
How can I do a backup for my Desire S before any thing ?
Thank you
you need to enter boot loader and the screen will show you
Simply google how to get boot loader desire s

In settings/power untick fast boot
turn your device off
hold vol down, click power
information you want will appear on screen (among other things)
Then you will be able to reboot device. You move trough the menu on vol up/down, and you select option with power button. DO NOT pull battery out, or some similar stunt. Navigate to "fastboot", click power, then in fastboot menu navigate to "power down", or "reboot" and click power button.
There is no need to perform backup before this because you make no changes to your device..
If you decide to root/install custom rom you have to do MUCH reading before doing so. Make sure to educate and be sure in what you are doing before trying ANYTHING with your device, because you can and will brick it if you don't.
And make sure to search before you post!
Thank you for your helps,
The Revolutionary: S-OFF & Recovery Tool 0.4pre4, could work for Desire S with HBOOT-2.00.0002 ?
No.
Revolutionary cannot be installed if hboot is 2.00.0002.
If you are determined to carry on with installing custom rom there are two options.
1) Downgrade hboot [guide] then s-off with revolutionary, and you are ready to go
or
2) unlock bootloader [guide], flash recovery and you are ready to go...
Both methods have their advantages, but i would recommend to go with first.
It is much more difficult, but you will be forced to learn much stuff that surely will come handy later on, and i have to say that some roms didn't work when i installed them via second method.
Read forum. I know it's overwhelming, but answers to all these questions are here.
Good luck!

Click to collapse
You need to read this thread, [Guide] How to root, install EXT4 recovery and custom ROM on HBOOT 2.00.0002: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100
Reaper ROM v3.0 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433816
I'm not a n00b when it comes to stuff like this. I was flashing phones since ever, the last one being HD2, flashing HSPL etc, but these newer HTC devices confuse me a bit, and no help article here on XDA didn't explain in detail what's what about Desire S flashing.
Now i've bought a second hand Desire S and have noticed things aren't the same like with HD2.
The phone bootloader looks like this:
*** LOCKED ***
SAGA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-2.00.0002
RADIO-3822.10.08.04_M
eMMC-boot
Now i figured what s-off is, but this LOCKED sign above confuses me so i'm restraining myself from flashing untill i'm sure which way i'm going.
Also, what's fastboot option in the bootmenu? (i'm also pulling the battery out to get out of the menu, don't wanna reboot through that fastboot just in case)
So, anyone care just to point me in short what to do?
I'd like to unlock the phone completely so i can root it and flash it later on.
Better safe than sorry.
Thanks everyone
You are s-off so locked/unlocked doesn't matter.
what recovery do you have?
You should also instal an ENG boot loader, see the links in my signature

I don't have any recovery installed, when i enter recovery through hboot it just shows a phone icon with a red warning triangle. What recovery is the best? I've been using CWM mostly and would like to keep using it as i'm used to it.
Can i install CWM from this thread http://goo.gl/Uq3m5 since i don't know what method was used for S-off (if that matters at all)
My bootloader is in english, should i install another bootloader anyway?
Also, now that i have s-off, should i downgrade my bootloader or keep it? I don't know what method was used for s-off as the phone was bought second hand.
This was so much easier with GS2, now i feel sorry i sold it few months ago...
Try to follow the last post advice from tectas in the following thread in order to flash a recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1620821
First ensure you have
settings....applications....development... USB debugging=ON
Settings....power...fast boot =OFF
I wouldn't bother downgrading, later on try to instal the ENG boot loader, see link on my sig.

Thanks, is that for 4Ext recovery?
Is there a simpler way to root and install CWM, as i said i'd like to keep using CWM?
What's the use of flashing ENG boot loader?
EDIT: Oh great, now all of a sudden my phone has random restarts all on his own, or when i finish a call. What's wrong now? Could i have screwed something by yanking the battery in hboot?
While yanking the battery is dangerous it risks killing phone, not creating the issue you describe, check that the battery is fitted properly, try putting a piece of folded paper on top of battery to ensure it doesn't lose contact
Not sure which recovery that is, once you have rooted you can simply flash cwm through ROM manager
did you change your ROM?
ENG hboot enables you more freedom with hboot and more functionality in recovery

No, the rom is stock Sense 3.0, Android 2.3.5.
I'll try flashing that recovery you suggested.
All went well. I flashed 4Ext recovery, and installed AOKP Build 34, all is well now.
Thanks a lot for your help
