And, it may be possible to change, but it is illegal in most countries and therefore cannot be discussed on XDA - read the forum rules:banghead:

Perhaps it should be a stupid question .... but, what are the alphabetic characters on the 1,2,3 ... phone keypad button made for ?
SO you can easily tell which numbers to dial for 1800HOTDUCK
advertising phone numbers in the form 1-800-Hotduck is almost not done in Europe, and thus unknown to some people
refering to yourself ?
inquisitive idiots like u that why u replied to the questio?

Maybe if your english was better, I could figure out if that's a question or an insult. if it's an insult I must say you have a lot of nerve. this being your second post. ( the first one about how to add 2% to 200  )
Ah ah ah, very funny M4io.
Advertising phone numbers in the form 1-800-Hotduck, like M4io said, are not done at all in Italy, and so they're really unknown to me, but I'm very curious.
Could someone explaining me how it works, please? Could I have, for example, a "1800jeanluc" number as a personal telephone number?
And if a letter is the third letter on the same key, does one have to press the key multiple times as with a T9 writing method?
Many years ago there ware rotary dial phones. Does one have to rotate the number multiple times to reach that third letter?
Thanks to everybody,
Rudy.
you just replace the letters with the number of the same key.
thus 1800jeanluc = 1-800-5326582 the fact that there are more than one letters on one key makes it easier to form a word of an existing phone number
thank you. very interesting.
I'll try to do of my best to bring this method in italy ( till now unknown ... incredible !)
i cant believe it
1800MACDONALD
1800KFC
1800FREESEX
all these numbers are not recognized in italy and people are unaware of it
you must believe it!
here nobody knows how to do with that silly letters on the keys. all our telephones have them and nobody asks himself what are they for!
I'm rather unluky, my telephone is 5700102 and ... nothing to do with the zero
you know it was U.S who started 1800 numbers i guess and the most numbers used in U.S are 1800PHONESEX or any other crap like this and after that came 1800MACDONALD 1800KFC 1800PIZZAHUT and all stuff....
mhhh if one could choose his own number ....
I have no idea why I would do this but people have told me multiple times to do it that it is essential for a rooted phone.
So far I know I can use different services?
I use Tmobile US so that means I can use Verizon?
Does that work for data too? I don't get data service very well in school but I know Verizon does.
So will that help me out?
I'm not being rude but what are you on about? Your post isn't very clear as to what information you require. Most of your post seems to be statements with question marks.
the hardware in the sensation is not compatible with verizon.. so no.

you will be able to use it with different GSM providers though, and oversees etc. its not a bad thing at all to do.

Your right. I apologize, I wasnt paying much attention to my post because I'm trying to keep up with class.
Basically my question is, what would unlocking my phone offer me?

I assume you are referring to S-OFF and root as opposed to unlocking it so you can put different carrier SIMs in it (assuming compatibile network frequencies).
Flexibility to try different ROMs. (e.g. get rid or bloatware).
Opportunity to back up the phone (Nandroid).
Opportunity to back up the Applications and associated data (Titanium).
Make sure you don't have Carrier IQ on you phone.
....
....
not exactly haha
but you did answer me with one line of your post.
I have a perm root on my phone.
running miui.us
"quadband" is what I'm used to hearing it called
that just means I can use any sim card?
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
Please PM me if your sensation has been cut off by your service provider. i need to run a test. this is safe and trust me you'll be VERY pleased.

Are you sure that is not what you are doing? Because you had a thread yesterday about how you can show anyone how to change any phone's imei number.
And when you are looking for network blocked phones to do testing on a day later you have to admit it seems a tad suspicious.
Sent from a rebel ship by storing the message in an R2 unit. (Help me, XDA. You're my only hope)
Thread closed pending investigation...

Again.. it is illegal so thats why no one post a solution. Use google n search urself and find a solution.
If u find a way to change the imei, then what imei number r u going to use? Each phone has its own imei number so if u change it thats called cloning and thats the illegal part.
..
No.

If one of our IEMI numbers get corrupted, it would be interesting to see how to restore it.
Would be better ask for IMEI reparation if that's the case

Take note of your IMEI before doing anything. Then you can restore it, but changing IMEI is illegal in some countries.

OK but how can I do that?
I want to change the imei. Because Turkey is a very tax. They're selling 3 times the price of a phone. Those who know how to change, please.
To change the IMEI number you need to inject in the underlying protocol stack while the stack is powering on. Usually this API is not provided by well known chip vendors. Also, on OS level it needs root access, and accesss to efi partition, if you are able to get the tools for this you can rewrite your imei number. But then again you will be in need of a genuine imei number to replace. otherwise the gsm network will not accept your phone.

I'm facing the same problem here, you'll need external hardware that cost quite a bit to do that smoothly. Any bootleg smartphone shop will do that for you for around 50TL. Most people on the internet will demand more to do it or teach you about it anyway.
Just ask around the shops,
